Is it legal to convert a DVD to view on the iPod Touch?

I was planning on converting a box set of "Jeeves & Wooster" DVDs that I own to watch on an iPod. Is that illegal?
I do not want advice on how to do this, I only want to know if it is legal or not.
Mods have locked or deleted this question twice already and I am not sure why.

You can show me any legislation you would like.
For example, the state of NY can pass a law making it illegal to breathe, which would violate other, more established laws and principles already codified and accepted, and therefore, it would be reversed upon legal testing. Think of the movie Footloose, a jurisdiction can pass any law they want, it doesn't means it is LEGAL. There is an entire body of previous law which is call PRECEDENT, upon which all future laws are based upon and must be sorted through should FUTURE laws contradict them, which the DMCA clearly does.
That the DMCA has provisions which violate previous law means that until congress steps up and makes a decision about whether to continue the Fair Use provisions, or that the DMCA supersedes them - pleasing a tiny minority of large corporations, and infuriating a large majority of the public - the legal precedent of the Fair Use provisions shall prevail as the legal standard adopted by the majority of the court system.

  • Batch convert VOB, DVDs, Other video files to IPOD, IPhone

I have an Ipod Classic and an IPhone. I have backed up many of my DVDs to my hard drive in DVD Format (series of VOB) files. I'm trying to find a piece of software that can easily just grab a slew of these files and convert them to Ipod and/or iPhone compatible MP4 files unattended. I am not having any luck. I've tried several. Most are lousy at handling VOBs directly and I haven't found any that will do a whole bunch of movies in batch mode. Anybody have a good recommendation. (Windows XP Professional). Thanks.

We're not supposed to talk about DVD conversion according to the terms of service ...
So I'll assume these VOB files are from your HOME MOVIE DVDs you burned yourself and suggest the Videora iPod Classic Video Converter.
    http://www.videora.com/
It's a really nice program that converts not only your HOME MOVIE DVD VOB files, but AVI, MPEG, and others. You can set the CPU usage from high to low with five settings, it has a queue which you can add multiple files to, and it will minimize to the taskbar for compact convenience. There are other Windows programs that do much the same, but I prefer Videora. Oh ... and it's freeware!!

  • What's the best Mac app to copy movies from a DVD to the iPod Touch?

So let's say i have a DVD and i want to make a copy of it and use an app to transfer it to my iPod Touch, what's the best way of doing this?
I heard of Handbrake and Videora, are they any good?
EDIT: I am using a Mac (OS X)

I use DVD decrypter in rip my DVD's to .vob, which is the same format the movie is on the disk
and then use Videora to convert to .mp4 with ipod touch codecs and high resolution
most end up being 900MB to 1.5GB

  • Converting movies to be played on the iPod!!!

When I convert movies to iTunes to play it on the iPod, for some reason volume isnt transfering with the movie!! Help!!

If you're starting with MPEG files, then Quicktime doesn't support muxed MPEGs properly. Use a different program to convert these, like Videora. Quality isn't as good, but it's way faster and easier to do.

  • Is It legal to use two different iTunes accounts on one iPod touch?

(For example: A friend uses his own account for his own purchases and my account for the apps that I have already bought. --> Legal?)

Clarification: the "other person" is my nephew. So it is a person from my family.

  • Downloading DVD's to Itunes for Ipod Touch use

I know you can download cd's to itunes, but what about dvd's? I'm wanting the Veggie Tales and the only movie they have on there is Jonah, so I have that one, but I need all of the others for my 4 yr old son. Thanks !

To do so you would have to use software to remove the encryption on the DVD, which is illegal in the US and hence can't be discussed here per the Terms of Use.
    Sorry.

  • Importing a DVD to view on a iPod, iPhone or PSP

    Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to import a film I got for Christmas on DVD to my Mac so I can watch it on my iPod/iPhone while I am away next week on a course?
Any advice would be most welcome!
Also, do any of you guys know how I could get the film on to a Sony PSP? Just out of curiosity as I have just bought myself one!!!
I am completely new to this, so any easy to follow guides would be great!!
Thank you for all your help.

If you mean commercially released films on DVD I'm afraid that can't be discussed as that involves breaking the encryption on them. Such discussions are against the terms of use. • What is the best dvd to ipod touch converter program for the mac

I am trying to convert dvd to watch on my ipod touch/1st gen ipad.  Currently I am trying to use 4media dvd to ipod to do this.  Having a number of problems.  Is there a better program out there that works consistantly?

If you are trying to convert store bought DVD's, then they are encrypted and it is illegal to break the encryption.

  • Ipod touch video to Burn to dvd?

I'm a teacher and I need to use my IPOD touch to video my class. Can I burn such a video to a DVD? and How?

Transfer the video to your computer using the procedure outlined in the iPod touch user's guide. From there you'll need appropriate editing software, if you want to edit the video, and DVD burning software to create the disk. If you have a Mac, it should have come with iMovie for editing and iDVD for creating and burning the DVD. If you have a Windows system, there will be similar software though I can't make specific recommendations.
    Regards.

  • How to convert a DVD of EXEs to run on a Mac?

The government where I'm working has distributed DVDs with teacher's guides and course materials to teachers and volunteers working on a new environmental education project.  When I loaded the DVD into my SuperDrive, the DVD title showed up under "Devices" in Finder windows, but it was grayed-out and couldn't be opened.  (I had to go into Terminal and use "drutil eject" to get it out.)
Today I tested the DVD in a Windows laptop and it worked without any problems.  The interface is composed of Flash EXEs.  I can access all of the other files on the disk -- PDFs, PPTXs, &c. -- but they're all in one directory and not always well-named.  I'd like to be able to use the interface to access the files when I present to my students.
Does anyone know of a program I can run to convert this DVD into something useable on my Mac?  I do have access to a Windows laptop, and I was looking into DVD-to-ISO programs this morning, but I don't know if that would solve the problem of the interface being EXEs.  Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you

    Templeton Peck wrote:
EXEs cannot run on Mac OS. You'll need to install Windows on your Mac if you want to open them
I know this, that's why I'm asking if there is a way to convert the EXEs to something that can run on Mac OS.
Presently there is no way for me to legally install Windows on my laptop, though I do have access to a Windows laptop if there is some way for me to convert the files on the DVD.
