Is it legal to export your Imac

I want to buy an Imac in America then take it to Australia. Is this legal? I realise I will need an adapter, but besides that, is it ok?

Another consideration, among those otherwise faced by an air traveler
would be any restriction on carry-on electronics or how checked-items
may fair in the turmoil that is most any airport's normal flow nowadays.
Since I travel infrequently by air, the new and revised rules (changing
several times a year or so) makes me wonder how one could expect
to make it easier to fly from the US to AU and ship a desktop iMac.
Any damages incurred during that kind of adventure would not be ones
covered under most product warranty plans. And since the iMac would
be packaged in its box, there'd be nothing for it to remember of the trip.
Even if you could put little windows in the box; no views in the cargo area.
Maybe there is a reason for getting one in the US, perhaps a rare antique
Mac and not a more available modern one; but the burden of transport &
extra concerns would have me checking out the Apple Australia web site.
Is the equivalent VAT or national sales tax so high there? A friend in NSW
could tell me; she has traveled to the US and AK a few times in 20 years.
Tell us how it went, and safe travels in any event. Maybe the iMac would
have a story to tell, from its point of view? Perhaps in a novel or mystery...
Something along the lines of, "How I was abducted and shipped to Oz."
