My husband and I both purchase songs from iTunes (we each have our own iPod Nano). Is it legal to share these with each other (via our internet network, not iTunes), and each have a particular song on our own iPod? We are trying to do things legit. I just cannot see us each buying the same music? We don't buy 2 CDs from the store...?

It depends on what country you live in. In the US and other counties organisations like the RIAA would like you to buy two copies of the music, one for you and one for your husband. The same goes for CD's.
Countries like Canada I think are more open with copyright laws, as long as you are not "pirating" the music you are pretty much OK. By pirating I mean selling it for profit or uploading it to the net.
As to your question is it legal to share, you are husband and wife, legally one entitiy, is this sharing?

Ipod nano formatted to mac / pc?

i formatted a nano ipod to a mac and uploaded music to it as a gift. the recipient unfortunately has a PC; to plug into the PC, he needs to restore the ipod to factory setting (thereby losing all the music). if he reconfigures it for a PC, can i still add music to it from a MAC?

Probably not. It isn't legal to share your iTunes content with someone else, though, anyway...

Load a bought movie on an authorized Apple ID

Hi every one
I bought a movie in iTunes. Later on a friend of mine wanted to download it on his Mac with my Apple ID. The Computer is authorized but it says that this Apple ID would be linked for 90 days. Does that mean that he could not use his own Apple ID to download things for 90 days? Why? Is there actually a way to share movies?

Yes that is what it means. This was put in place to stop people from doing what you are trying to do.
It is not legal to share movies. You buy the rights to your own personal use. You do not own the right to distribute to others.

Phoenix CE??

So my friend bought an iMac at BestBuy the other day, and when he got it home he turned it on and got a weird program instead of the MacOS X setup screen...
I took a look at it for him and it boots into 10.8.4 and immediately runs a program called Phoenix CE and seems to go through automated tests. I tried googling it and I couldn't find good info on any of it. I had him return the unit and get a different one which was fine, but I managed to take a video of it booting and screenshots and even dumped the hard drive before he brought it back.
When it first boots, rather than getting just the gray apple logo, it shows a black screen with a lot of white text I assume is the bios?
Can someone elaborate on this? I can provide all of what I have, which is roughly 21gb dump. The HDD was formatted as two partitions labeled "MaxDisk" which was bootable, and a blank 5gb partition named "DIAG".

It's not legal because 1) the software that comes with your Mac is licensed only for that Mac and 2) OS X 10.8 is not free software nor is it in the public domain, so it is not legal to share, regardless of how you obtained it.
So no, it's not "mine to do what I want". If you want to break Apple's licensing agreement and the law, that's your choice, but I would strongly suggest you not post about it in Apple's own forums.

Burning Microsoft Office onto a CD?

I need to purchase Microsoft Office for my new MacBook, and even with the educational discount and the rebate it is still $100, and for a college student this is a lot. Soooo... I was hoping to buy it, install it on my computer, and then sell it (and the two codes left) on eBay. But I would like to back Microsoft Office up on a CD just in case. (I am buying it, after all.) How would I go about doing this? Just dragging "Word" and "Excel", etc., from the Applications folder directly into a Burn Folder? Would those applications fit on a typical CD? (I don't have the DVD burner.) Thanks.

How is this a lie? I think you may be confused. Yes the student and teacher edition is $149, but there is a $50 MS rebate going on right now making it $100.
Office For non student/teachers is indeed $399. The upgrade from a previous version is $239. So it is quite expensive.
Now, to the original poster, my advice would be to buy Office if you really need full compatibility with word Docs and especially Windows Word users. Although the open source versions mentioned are all fine applications they are not Office and they are not 100% compatible. In my book, even for a student, $100 is very reasonable. After all you paid 10+ times that for your MacBook.
Also as the others have said, buying it, making a backup copy and then selling it, is illegal, even if you think that you are selling the other two keys. I believe the license agreement allows for those codes only to be used in the same household. So if you had 2 roommates that all lived in the same household and all had Macs, then I guess it would be legal to share the cost. Please also ignore the person that recommended piracy by using LimeWire. It is people like this that are causing software costs and prices to rise...

I just signed up for the creative cloud suite and I wonder is it ok to download on my workstation at the office and then at my home workstation, or should I just download to my laptop??

Unless Adobe has taken this option away too, it is legal to share a license between home and work computer, as long as the two are not running simultaniously. You might have to deactivate the license though, for the one not in use.

How to handle exchange of Shares in Legal Consolidations

I'm looking for a solution to capture the exchange of shares between entities for a third entity.
So the question is, what is the recommended approach to handle these transactions in a legal consolidation application?
For example:
Entity A acquired shares (value of $100K) of Entity C from Entity B
Entity B disposed of shares (value of $100K) of Entity C to Entity A
These transactions need to be eliminated and will affect multiple accounts (ie. acq of disposals, gain/loss, proceeds from sale of shares, etc...)
This leads us to the question of how do you see that the shares amount was related to Entity C without a shares dimension? Or alternatively is this handled using the PShares account in the OwnAccount dim?

Hi Michael,
While getting the Trail Balance from your source system the transactions relating to interccompany shares dealing already been recorded.
Now in legal consolidation you have to eliminate these posting for this you can use normal Interunit elimination rules to eliminate the balances.
This should be executed before executing final consolidation eliminations ie Investment and share capital eliminations.

We are an international company with branches in Germany, USA, France. the branches are individual companys, in Ger GmbH, in F SAS ind USA INC. If we want to use for example 10 Licenses Adobe CC, is it possible and legally allowed to share them over the three branches?

The Licenses can not be shared between countries. If I am correct the I assume you would like to buy 10 CC seats& use them worldwide. For this you can go for CC for Team & assign seats as per your choice.

But from a technical perspective, you could have your own account setup, but for whatever reason, you do not.
There may be consequences from a technical point of view.

You can't. The use of a credit card to verify your identity and give consent for a child to access online services that may collect data is a legal requirement. You can change the payment method after setting it up if you like.
If that presents a problem for you, complain to your congressman. Apple didn't implement the requirement because the wanted to, but because the law requires them to.

What is the best home set up for a family to share/use apple products

Hi, I am relatively new to apple (have an iPad) and having been a PC user for years I was pleasantly surprised with the apple experience and am now trying to work out the best set up for me, my husband and young son as I am buying them both of them apple products this Christmas. New Mac laptop/ ipad for hubby and then an ipod touch for my son oh and a new mac laptop for me. We are also thinking of moving from Blackberries to iPhones. Yes we seem to be hooked! but i am unsure about the home family set up and how to replace my PC network that I run off an 8TB server.
In reading the forums I keep seeing people talk about problems they have with two apple IDs and trying to merge them. I have also heard about a family ID allowing us to share apps legally. I am really nervous of setting us up wrong and then having problems later and hence i am now looking for some advice on how to share as much as we can legally but also make usage practical and not invading each others privacy. thoughts so far:
Music - I think we are happy to share the same music and access using one ID (we currently don't buy much music from apple but have lots of CDs we share).
Photos - It would be nice to share photos - as long as my son or husband cannot accidentally delete photos of mine (which is my biggest concern). I currently load all camera photos onto my 8TB storage box as the network owner and my husband has full access to copy any photo to his laptop but can never delete the original copies by accident.
Apps - If possible i would like us to share these but they are cheap enough these days to separate if really needed. Would be good to share licence for pages etc though

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to use the same ID on a device for iCloud and iTunes.
iCloud covers mail, contacts, calendars, reminders, notes, bookmarks, photostream, document syncing etc and for these I recommend you each have your own ID's, this will stop others from having access to and likely more importantly being able to edit or even delete your personal information.
Someone of Age needs to be responsible for an account, so for younger children you will need to create and be responsible for an account yourself but let the child use it.
For iTunes you could use a single account so everyone can share music and apps or you could use separate accounts (there are ways to share content between users, Apple provides homesharing to do this).
When choosing how to proceed with iTunes, it might be worth remembering that someday your children will reach 21 (or whatever age they feel they have become independent) and will likely want their own account, changing accounts later may make it difficult to access previous content.
Photostream now has shared albums, so you can share just what you want with others. Shared photos using shared albums cannot be deleted by others with different accounts, but if you all shared the same account they could be.
Facetime and messages can also use an ID independently of each other, iCloud and iTunes. Separate ID's are recommended for these, joint accounts can be problematic.
iTunes has parental controls for youngsters, however at 7, I suggest you don't reveal the password to him and enter it yourself when he needs to purchase something, otherwise you may receive unexpected bills.

I think there is a syntax problem in your SPRUNCONSO call. GROUPS_SET variable is missing. The syntax should be like this:
*RUN_STORED_PROCEDURE = SPRUNCONSO([%APP%],[%CATEGORY_SET%],[%GROUPS_SET%],[%SCOPETABLE%],[%LOGTABLE%])
In addition, not sure if it's a typo problem or not, but it seems that your call for the SPRUNCONVERSION is also wrong. Some variables are also missing:
*RUN_STORED_PROCEDURE=SPRUNCONVERSION([%APP%],[%CATEGORY_SET%],[%CURRENCY_SET%],[GLOBAL],[%SCOPETABLE%],[%LOGTABLE%])
Then, for all the error codes, you can get rid of those one using the ON_ERROR_CONTINUE, at the end of the line.
Normally, those kind of error message are generic, and informed the user that there is actually no records that should be the source of the SPRUNCONSO stored procedure.

Can I share my Itunes library?

I have had itunes and either and ipod or iphone for years. I have accumulated all of our household tunes into my itunes. My husband is now purchasing his own iphone. Can I share my library with him without sharing the same itunes account? Is there a way to either download the music for him or sync with my itunes for him? any help would be great!

if you use the same iTunes library, you can setup separate sync settings for each device. if you have a 'central warehouse' for all of your songs, this is your best thing to do.
if you want to use separate libraries, you can use the same music library as long as your songs are not DRM protected. if they are protected, you can not share the music legally.

Can I share Attributes/Variables between 2 different Class Driver Sessions?

I am designing a Simulator of Instrumentation following these steps:
1) re-programming, re-compiling, and re-building the DLLs from the advanced class simulation drivers included in IVI Driver Toolset 2.0 using LabWindows/CVI 7.0;
2) then i create a VI in LabVIEW 7.0 which calls an IVI Class Driver obtaining the desired simulated output data.
My problem is that I need to share variables between different DLLs in LabVIEW.
I want to simulate a circuit which consists of a battery and a resistor. I've got 2 instruments: a DC Power Supply and a Digital Multimeter.
The DC Power Supply acts as the battery providing a certain voltage level, and the Multimeter measures the Voltage and the Current in the resistor.
I've designed a VI in LabVIEW which uses 2 different sessions: one which calls the class driver IviDCPwr, and the other one which calls IviDmm.
I wish to be able to access the attributes from "nisDCPwr.c" in the file "nisDmm.c".
For example, to write a line like this:
Ivi_GetAttributeViReal64 (ViSession vi, ViConstString channelName, NISDCPWR_ATTR_MEASUREMENT_BASEV, 0, &reading));
inside the source code "nisDmm.c" of the advanced class simulation driver.
The problem is that the only ViSession accessible from nisDmm is the handle from the Digital Multimeter, but not from DC Power Supply.
Would this be possible? Is it "legal"?
I've tried another approach through the declaration of external variables, but unfortunately I get a run-time error in LabVIEW.
The only solution I've found is using auxiliary files going between, through the functions included in the Low Level I/O Library .
Nevertheless, the solution proposed above would result much more convenient, faster and safer in my application.
