Is it legal to use iWork fonts for business?

Hey,
am I allowed to use the fonts in iWork for a business? I am going to found a new company so I have to design a logo, brochures,...!
I do not want to get sued by Apple for using their fonts illegaly

BTW: I am form Germany so my English is not perfect!

Most of the fonts installed in the operating system aren't Pages components.
So it's not only the Pages license but the system one which must be studied.

Using system fonts for commercial printing?

Hi,
Does anyone know the licensing rights/usage for using system fonts for commercial printing? If I understand correctly, system fonts that comes from operating system CAN be use because Apple purchase the rights on them and end users that purchase OS can use these fonts freely as long as not we are not redistributing them for profit, etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction with official documentation on the subject?

Never mind, I found the answer. It's in Apple's OS EULA.
"E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included
with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however,
you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions
accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font
Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel."

Before trying to answer your question, a bit of advise: don't post your email address in a public forum such as this, as you did in the message above. I am answering to the one before that, so that you may remove your address from your last message.
As to your question, the short and frank answer is "I don't know". The long answer is that I still don't see where the free Reader comes in your making some money. For backing up files, one does not need the program used to create or open them; one can just copy and paste them, without even opening them. And while one does need Reader or Acrobat to open the PDF files and then print them, in the eyes of this complete ignorant of the pertinent laws even in my own country, you would be fully justified if you charged for your time and for the use of your computer and your printer. As I understand things, many print shops (those using presses, not printers) print from PDF files provided by their clients without even needing to ask Adobe for permission to do so.
Let's hope that someone with a better knowledge of the legal aspects of this matter reads your question.

The iPad will support multiple Gmail accounts, but of course you have to set each one up individually. Did you set up both accounts? Go into Settings/ Mail, Contacts, Calendars to confirm both accounts exist. If they do, also familiarize yourself on how to navigate between accounts to make sure you can view your Inbox. You may also want to check your settings to make sure that you have the default account set up as you expect for Mail, Contacts, Calendar, and Notes (if you're using all those features). That is important only when initiating something new, you have to have a default account to do such a thing so make sure the default is your account since it is your iPad (assuming that's what you want).
Alternatively, install the free Gmail app and then use only his (or your) account with that app and use the standard iOS Mail app for the other account.

The App Store has many useful business related apps: Word processors, spreadsheets, presentation apps, CRM apps. Maps is useful for navigating to appointments. Newstand for reading periodicals related to business.

Using iWork, iCloud for ultra-portable presentations

I am considering buying a refurbished iPod Touch or iPad Mini, and I wanted to discuss how to apply iWork for iOS in concert with iWork 2009 for Mac.To wit:

I am writing this to seek advice on how to leverage these tools to give business (and personal) presentations while I'm on-the-road and may (or may not) be carrying hardware with me. Scenario #1: If I prepared a Keynote presentation on my iMac and transferred it via WiFi or thumb drive to the old MacBook, do I need to copy just a single Keynote file over and that's it? No attached files or folders with files in them?
Scenario #2: I have successfully, in the past, used the Epson projector and a thumb drive loaded with photos and also a USB camera card reader with an SD card attached to show simple JPEG photo slideshows. If I wanted to just use the Epson's USB port to show Keynote slideshows, they would have to be stored in folders as JPEG files. How easy is this to prepare with Keynote? Are there any pointers available on designing a useful workflow for preparing such slideshows without a lot of fuss?
Scenario #3: Forget the projector; too much bulk. If I had just a small iOS device like an iPod touch, and I wanted to plug into someone else's projector (or if I wanted to just show a slideshow of images to one person with no projector) what do I need to be prepared for, hardware-wise? What do I need to do with Keynote, both on the iMac for production and on the iOS device to make it look right?
Scenario #4: Let's say I'm going to carry everything on a USB thumb drive as a backup. What is the best way to set it up to play on someone else's hardware? (I assume three tiers of compatibility: I do network with Mac/iOS users, so Tier #1 would be Apple compatibility with Keynote. Tier #2 would be general compatibility with Microsoft Office 2003/4 for pre-XML file formats. I guess that Tier #3 would be general-purpose PDF files, or maybe the JPEG file approach with thumb drive ports on projectors.) If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm plugging my thumb drive into someone else's MacBook, are there any pointers to avoid font conflicts or other issues? If I'm doing Tier #1 and I'm borrowing someone else's iPad to show a slideshow, how do I get the files off of a thumb drive to show on the iPad?
Scenario #5: ** iCloud ** Let's say I'm traveling VERY light, and I want to give a presentation that's stored on my Apple iCloud account. How can I organize files and folders so that Tier #1, #2 and #3 files are available (assuming I have an internet connection) so I can play a presentation off someone else's hardware, be it a tablet or laptop. Is there anything I should know about how to prepare this and how to reliably be able to log-in and access my iCloud files? Are my iWork 2009 apps going to function in preparing and saving presentation files with my iCloud account?
Scenario #6: Scenario #6 is Scenario #5, but substituting another service instead of iCloud, like maybe Google Drive. Is there any way to set up an account with files so I can reliably be able to access said files for a presentation?

Just sign into your iCloud account on icloud.com, click the app that you want to use (see below) and it will launch. You don't need to sign into anything but your iCloud account.

Urxvt - use different fonts for different instances of urxvt

Hello. I use mcabber for IM which is a ncurses program. From what I understand, it is not possible to set font size for a ncurses program. Also urxvt uses .Xresources for configuration which sets the same font for every instance of urxvt.
So I want to ask if it is possible to write a script to start urxvt with a different configuration file and then start mcabber in it.
I understand that I can write a script to change font size in .Xresources and then use xrdb to merge the changes, but I do not understand how I can make that change local for only that instance of urxvt.

Select the fonts to be used. This is a comma separated list of font names that are checked in order when trying to find glyphs for characters. The first font defines the cell size for characters; other fonts might be smaller, but not (in general) larger. A (hopefully) reasonable default font list is always appended to it. See resource font for more details.
In short, to specify an X11 core font, just specify its name or prefix it with "x:". To specify an XFT-font, you need to prefix it with "xft:", e.g.:

Using device fonts for printing

I was wondering how to use device fonts in Java. These are the fonts that are in the printer and not in the operating system.
I'm writing some point of sale software that needs to use the Star TSP100 printer on Windows 7 64.
I need to use the device font "control" in order to instruct the printer to open the cash drawer.
I would also like to use the device font "3of9" for barcodes. I know there are alternatives to using this, but directly from the printer would be easier than trying to purchase and deploy a barcode font.
I know that star micronics has a JPOS implementation, but not for windows 7 64. And the JPOS with the StarMicronics bin is cumbersome and unstable for the end user even in Windows XP 32 bit.
If I specify the font "control" java replaces it with the default font. i.e. Font deviceFont = new Font ("control", Font.PLAIN, 8.5); is just the default font and not "control"

I did find a solution to my problem, but I cannot use device fonts. You may also find this useful to address your issue. I opened the a print service and sent ASCII to it instead of creating and printing a graphic object. You'll need the [Command Emulator STAR Line Mode Command Specifications|http://www.star-micronics.co.jp/eng/service/usermanual/comemu_starline_pm.pdf] to know what the commands are for the TSP100 and TSP700. I've included a cheat sheet to find the HEX value of the ASCII command. Note that if you need to send several characters you'll need to use the space with it.

Legal to use iWork '09 from box set without the box set?

I purchased iWork '09 from the Mac Box Set off of ebay. It was for only the iWork software and not the entire set. The seller is telling I can legally have this software installed and use it even though the bx set comes with one serial # for all software included in it.
I did find a post on a different forum that states it is illegal to sell parts of the set separately. Is any of this true? Am I okay to have this software or should I return it? I am worried since I have a business which will use this software and just want to make sure there is never a chance for repercussions in the future.

Yep. One of the reasons to be quite careful about dealing on eBay. Here's what's provided at the online store:
The Family Pack Software License Agreement allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple software on up to a maximum of five (5) Apple-labeled computers at a time as long as those computers are located in the same household and used by persons who occupy that household. Using Larger Fonts For Simple Sign

I am creating a sign. Using Photoshop CS2 I was
very surprised when I tried to create a large character
of font size 1500. Error message noted the maximum was
something like 1296.
I did not think there was a limit.
How do people make huge signs with LARGE letters?

How can I use phonetic fonts for cursors name

Hi all!
I need to use phonetic characters in cursors names. Does somebody know wich font I have to use for this ?
One other problem is that I need to use Vietnamese characters at the same time. Is it possible to change the font of the cursors names run-time (in the diagram)?
Last quetion: Does LabVIEW support unicode? If yes,how can I use it?

Unfortunately, I don't know what the phonetic characters look like, so I
can't
tell you what to type to enter them. If you find them in Word,
you should be able to copy them to the clipboard, they will be in
Unicode, and paste them into LV -- where they will be converted to dual
byte. If it doesn't work, try to find out if they are exist in the
locale of your machine, or more importantly, the target machine.
If you can display them, you can build a simple ring with short strings
containing the phonetic characters. When the user picks something from
the ring, use the strings property and value to index out the string and
replace/append to the string the user is editing. You will want to pay
attention to the string's selection if this is supposed to act like a
character palette and either do an insert or replace.
If you want a more compact grid menu, you will need to convert the
strings to images and paste them in a pict menu. That value can be used
to index a constant array that matches the order in the pict ring.

Make fontconfig use ghostscript fonts for PDFs

I had a problem with Evince using my default sans-serif font (as set in .fonts.conf) in PDF files that ask for the standard Helvetica font. Since the two fonts have different character widths, the text in the PDF files doesn't look right. I fixed the problem by editing /etc/fonts/conf.avail/29-replace-bitmap-fonts.conf and adding the ghostscript fonts to the replacement table (Helvetica -> Nimbus Sans L, Times -> Nimbus Roman No9 L, Courier -> Nimbus Mono L).
I noticed that the file already lists the Microsoft and Liberation equivalents as replacements (I have neither installed); is there some reason the ghostscript fonts aren't also listed there?

As an example, here is a screenshot of a PDF that uses the Times font. The left hand side is with the Nimbus fonts; the right hand side is with my default serif font. Normally I like the font on the right better (hence, I have it set as the default), but it looks awful in a PDF that was intended to be rendered with a Times font, since some of glyphs are narrower (notably the capital A).

Using iWork pages for note taking - Outline Mode

I am trying to find a good way to take notes in an organized fashion. The other week a friend of mine was using an outline mode in microsoft office and looked to be a great way to organize his notes. I wanted to do something similair on my mac, and it appears that iWork Pages will support the Harvard outline function which is great, and also it'll sync in the cloud, so if I'm on my ipad, it'll save to the cloud, if I'm on my iMac it'll save to the cloud. I only have one hiccup, when I use my iPad, it doesn't seem to recognize my outline that I'm using in iWork on my iMac. I'll start typing on my iPad and it's like the outline doesn't even exist.
So my question is, is there an outline feature for pages for iOS? I want my notes to be seamless wheather I'm working in my iMac or iPad.
Please help!

i dont think pages for iOS does exactly what your looking for. If i were you i would just google outline apps for iPad. There are some highly rated ones that use icould sync, as well as other methods and services. Those are made exclusively for what your looking to do and most arent very expensive.
