Is it likely that Apple will ever update the classic?

I'm looking to upgrade iPods because my current 64 gig is full. I really want the Classic for storage and, well, I really like the way it looks. More along the lines of storage though. My big thing is that I don't want to buy one right now if they do a surprise refresh this year. I would definitely be willing to wait if there were hope, but the rumors that it will be discontinued worry me. The only thing that gives e hope is I heard that some people have been getting emails asking what they would like to see in a new classic. The idea of aluminum and a SS drive are really what keep me from buying now. What do you guys think?

The classic has many advantages, but its aimed at a few select markets.
For most people the classic is a familiar face. For people that just want a simple media player, it isnt intimidating. It has a basic display, a clickwheel that has become a standard in the past and massive storage capacity.
Its easier to use on the highway too.
For $250 bucks you get 160gb. Thats still to this day unheard for a media player. And for those people that have a large collection of music/video/files to bus with them it just makes sense.
Some people will tell you the hdd is unreliable compared to ssd. That it cant take a hit. Well. Ever dropped an Ipod Touch? *SMASH*
And like others have said, if its selling, I dont think that Apple will screw with a winning formula. I too had to travel hours to find one because they were all sold out.
Sometimes, simple just works.

  • Is it likely that I will ever have an Internet con...

Just wondering if I will ever be reconnected to the internet again?
In our flat in the middle of nowhere in central Russia I had fibre to the premises installed the day after I requested it and at an exact time specified by me! It also costs less than £10 a month for 100 Mbps up and down with no data caps!
If they can do it in Russia (considered to be at least 20 years behind the west), why can't BT just reconnect my phone line to ADSL at the exchange?
I'm not a new customer, I'm an existing customer whose service has been disconnected by BT because of BT and Openreach failing to work together and stop taking orders to connect people to a broken fttc cabinet. So I can have no connection at all for 2 weeks but, I can't have a working on ADSL.
BT PLC is the pinnacle of everything that is wrong with this monopolistic type approach to freedom of choice. There is no freedom of choice here in the UK, for most of us we can only get internet access via our phone lines which are the sole property of BT Openreach. This means we cannot go to another supplier for a better service as essentially we are still getting a BT product supplied by BT Openreach. Albeit usually cheaper from other suppliers.
Yes I know my case is being looked into but, what I really want is the internet connection that I pay for!

If they can't get someone out to fix the cabinet, how can they get someone out to move your line back from the cabinet?

Is it true that apple will fix your products once for free ?
    No.
my iphone  just turned off last night and wont turn back on...
    Standard troubleshooting...
Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If still a problem restore with your backup.
If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
If still a problem, it's likely a hardware issue.  If still under warranty, take it in to Apple for a potnetial warranty replacement.  If not, you may be able to get an out-of-warranty replacement for $149.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
To transfer the books, highlight the iPad in the iTunes Devices list and right click on the iPad's name. Choose transfer purchases.

You must update the apps with the Apple ID that they are purchased with.
The only way to get round this is to re-purchase the app with the new Apple ID.

  • I have an iPad (original). I cannot complete the update to iOS 5.  It gets to the "backup" stage and then finds an error (-402653081). It asks if I want to continue, with a warning that "continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPad."

Thanks Bob, I don't know why but it all of a sudden worked a few days later. It's a mystery but at least problem solved.

  • Possible that itunes will not update iphone OS while overseas?

hi, im in australia, and i was thinking about getting the iphone 3gs through the local australian network carrier here, however, a friend of mine said that whenever he returns to his home country with the contract phone that he obtained under a plan with yes optus (australian network carrier) he told me that it is not possible to update the phone or download any apps through the local itunes store in his home country. to confirm this rumour, i head down to a 3 (another australian network carrier) retail store to enquire about the plan while at the same time asking about the rumour, a sales person said that it might be possible that itunes will not update an australian phone with an non australian IP address...is this true? because purchasing an iphone and not being able to update it while i too return to my home country would render the phone quite pointless. could someone please get back to me and confirm if this is true and if there is any possible solutions without hacking the phone? ohh and by the way, the network carriers do legally unlock the phones for their customer when anyone needs to go overseas

If your phone is locked to the Australian network, then you can only roam in Malaysia. If it's unlocked, you can get a SIM card from a Malaysian provider.
iTunes, however, is country specific. You cannot access Australian iTunes from another country. For example, I'm in the US, and I can't access iTunes from other countries.
If your phone is unlocked, and you have a local SIM card, you should be able to access your local version of iTunes. No problem.

Did this update make a physical change? Branching from that question, will this update confuse lets say, a parent that isn't savvy?

Did this update make a physical change?
    No
will this update confuse lets say, a parent that isn't savvy?
This will depend on whether they are savvy enough to open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on their Mac , click on the picture of the AirPort, and then click the Update button.
It that sounds too complicated, best to let someone else handle the update.

Is true that apple will replace I pad 3 to new iPad for the customers?

When the iPad 4 was released, Apple said that persons who had purchased an iPad 3 in the prior 30 days could exchange it for an iPad 4. This replacement period is over.

As long as it meets the minimum technical specifications, although the more above the minimum you have, the better the experience.

  • HT4061 I had read that Apple will replace a cracked screen on an iPad the first time for free. Does anyone know if this is true?

I have read that Apple will replace a cracked screen on an iPad the first time it is damaged for free. Does anyone know if this is true?

apple's official policy is: cracked screens = accidental damage
With iPad 1 and 2, accidental damage is not covered by any apple care and a replacement iPad starts at $249 and goes up depending on the model.
iPad3's were eligible for Apple Care + which offers two instances of accidental damage repair for $49 each time
The 'apple store replaced my cracked ipad for free' is largely an urban legend. It's possibly happened, but those that have been on the receiving end were people that happened to get a store manager that defied Apple's official policy. Not to say it hasn't potentially happened, but it's an exception not the rule. And if you happen to be lucky enough to experience it, that's just what it is, luck. Not something to be counted on or expected.

  • I've broken my iPhone and have put my sim card in my old iPhone 3. If I plug my old iPhone 3 into my computer, will it update the iPhone 3 with everything that is on my phone that is now broken, or will it 'update' iTunes with what was on the old iPhone?

Plug your phone into the wall charger for at least 30 minutes...make sure you have a sim card in the phone...then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
Make sure you have no anti-virus software running or any firewalls...turn all of that stuff off.
