Is it mandatory to Restart all services after making Business Rule change?
Hi,
I know it may be a easy one but wanted to know is it mandatory to restart all the Planning and Essbase services if we make any changes in the Business rule
in 9.3.1

No you shouldn't have to restart after rule change.

Give helpdesk ability to restart ALL SERVICES without making them local or domain administrators
I have a windows server 2012 environment using Active directory. I need to give my helpdesk group the ability to stop, start or restart all services on the machines located within an OU, but I do not want to make them local admins because I don't want
them to be able to install software, create users etc.
I have found articles that allow you to grant this right on a PER SERVICE basis, but I am looking for a solution that allows them to restart any service...not just named services.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

[solved] How to restart all services with systemd?
I had the habit of restarting all daemons after an upgrade so to make sure the newest libraries, configuration files etc were loaded. I did that with a shell script that restarted the daemons in order which they were listed in rc.conf. With systemd I could do something similar by first getting a list of running services and ordering a 'systemcrl restart <servicename>' for each. But since systemd keeps track of dependencies I wonder if that would be the way to do it. Also I would need to filter out 'one shot' type services that are only needed on bootup.
<edit>restart instead of reload</edit>
<edit>solved it with a little script</edit>
Last edited by rwd (2012-11-27 21:02:02)I think that's what systemctl snapshot does.
snapshot [NAME]
Create a snapshot. If a snapshot name is specified, the new snapshot will be named after it. If none is specified an automatic snapshot name is generated. In either case, the snapshot name used is printed to STDOUT, unless --quiet is specified.
A snapshot refers to a saved state of the systemd manager. It is implemented itself as a unit that is generated dynamically with this command and has dependencies on all units active at the time. At a later time the user may return to this state by using the isolate command on the snapshot unit.
Snapshots are only useful for saving and restoring which units are running or are stopped, they do not save/restore any other state. Snapshots are dynamic and lost on reboot.
Then, isolate emergency.target or rescue target and switch to the snapshot. -
Restart Systemd service after laptop resume
Hi!
After resume my laptop (from suspend, I've no tried hibernation) I need to restart NetworkManager service. How can I do this automaticaly?, I've searched in google and Systemd documentation but I have not a clear idea about how to do it.

lucke wrote:As boast said, you can make pm-utils run "systemctl restart networkmanager.service" after resume for you. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pm … _own_hooks
Sorry (to boast too), you are right. I've read the wiki and created a hook, now NM restarts after resume. Thanks!
And now I've discovered that my computer only suspends the first time. Second time nothing happens when I close the tap, execute pm-suspend or the KDE menu option suspend to ram
If you have any idea it is welcome. If not I will mark the thread as solved in a couple of days and search in forums and wiki.
this usually happens when your hook doesn't exit. pm-suspend never finishes because it's waiting for the hook to exit and the second pm-suspend will block until the other pm-suspend is finished. Please post your hook. -
Have to restart VPN service after restarting macmini
Hello,
i am using a mid2011 macmini with Lion Server (10.7.2-Build 11C74) loaded over the Appstore, connected to an Airport Extreme (FW 7.6). I configured the VPN service in the Server settings and forwarded the profile to the clients. VPN connection works just fine.
When i restart the macmini none of the clients are able to connect with the VPN Service. Other services are running without any problems (screensharing, filesharing,...), but i cannot connect with the VPN service through any client.
After i restart the VPN Service (switch off and back on) in the Server App on the macmini it works again.
Is anyone experiencing similar behaviour with the VPN service after a restart of the server? Has anyone suggestions how to get the VPN service working even after a restart without switching it off and on again?
If you need further information please reply, i will hand it in immediately.
FYI:
I did make a complete clean install of the Server, without import of the timemachine backup to ensure the system is "clean".
kind regards

Error restarting OBIEE services after deploying a RPD.
Hi all,
I have recently performed OBIEE installation and, when a repository is deployed and all services restarted comes an error like this one and BI Server status is down:
Operation Failed: start; OracleInstance: instance1; Component: coreapplication_obis1; msg 0 of 1 processes started.
OBIEE version is 11.1.1.6 and the unique RPD that works is the sample one, any others fail during the restart process.
I have been thinking that maybe it was a logging error but I am not sure due to the last actions I performed, which have been those:
- Create a new user in the Console
- Create a new repository and give the username created before and its password.
Can you help me please?
Regards,
Borja M.Hi,
Thanks for quick answering, RPD consistency is checked and OK, so that is not the problem. RPD was also renamed and deployed again, throwing OBIEE the same error.
There is something particular related to this problem, any RPD works properly except of the one installed with the OBIEE software. I mean, maybe the error is always the same, or it is a configuration error, but I am not able to fix it.

Mac Mini Server VPN requires restart of service after each reboot
Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
OS X 10.8.4
After a reboot, when viewing in Server.app, VPN service is turned on, however no connections can be made until the service is turned off then back on again.
VPN service log entry shows "Listening for connections..." but doesn't allow incoming VPN calls until the service is restarted.
Anyone else having similar issues or have suggested solutions?
Thanks much!

Configuration (Instance) alias problems - restart all services or just data engines?
I have 2005, 2008 (not R2) and 2012 instances installed on a workstation. I disabled 2005 (turned all the services off) and only need to have 2008 and 2012 instances running.
When adding new aliases or changing the existing aliases for 2008 and 2012, what services do you need to restart.
The alias I setup for 2012 works as expected but the other for 2008 simply brings up the 2012 instance when I make a connection in the 2012 SSMS.I think i figured it out. I was not confident that my 2008 instance was listening on the port i THOUGHT it was.
So I checked
USE master
GO
xp_readerrorlog 0, 1, N'Server is listening on'
GO
Sure enough...it was NOT 1433, so I set my alias to use the port my 2008 instance was listening on and bamo...I can connect with that alias. -
Backup restarts all over after WARNING 20510
Hi,
I'm experiencing this problem : while backup is performing we get this message :
WARNING<20510> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - WARNING: Log log.000XXXXXXXXXX has been swiped out from under me! (retrying)
then backup starts all over the directory server.
I checked in previous posts and it says that this message comes one database is being written???
Has anyone an idea about this? How could I avoid the restart without taking the directory out of modification (if this is the problem)?
thanksThe problem is that transaction logs roll over before backup is finished (Server is really slow)
Sun's answer that the restart is the normal behaviour and we shouldn't interrupt it, they offer an unspported Patch if needed.
A workarround is to hold writes on the server, back it up and accept writes again. -
I make some changes with cookies and cleared my history for today...and then restarted my computer...now firefox will not open...will not respond...should I uninstall firefox and then reinstall it?
If I uninstall firefox will the changes I made with the cookies and my history be reversed?
If I were to uninstall and then reinstall firefox will I loose my bookmarks if I do this? or does firefox remember them...so when I reinstall the previous bookmarks are reinstalled too?Does Firefox starts up when you first open it after rebooting the computer but hangs the next time you try to start it? If so, then there's a [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1005487 bug] in Firefox 29 where Firefox hangs on exit when the setting "Clear history when Firefox closes" is selected, so that you get an "already running but not responding" error the next time you ttry to start it. In that case, end the firefox.exe process in the Windows Task Manager (or reboot the computer) then reset your Firefox Privacy options and UNCHECK the option "Clear history when Firefox closes". See this article for details:
[[Settings for privacy, browsing history and do-not-track]]
If that's not the problem and Firefox still not open even after rebooting the computer then try starting in Firefox Safe Mode by holding down the shift key while starting Firefox. If Firefox starts then see the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to narrow down the cause. -
Unable to login Windows Server 2012 after making local policy changes
Experts, we have modified the local policy setting on the windows server 2012 and badly it was domain controller now none of the users are able to login to the server. After entering the user name and password it will launch till welcome screen then it errors
out saying user name or password incorrect. below are the steps which we followed
1. Policy setting is located in Computer Configuration\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options \Network security: Configure encryption types allowed for Kerberos values change from Not Configured to DES_CBC_MD5
2. changed user attribute msDS-SupprtdEncryptionTypes to 2 , this account we were used for kerberos authentication.
3. Logged off from the server and then server doesn't allow any user to login.
regards,
JakkHave you tried connecting to the server from a 2nd DC? Have you tried installing the RSAT tools on a domain member server and modify the offending policy ?
last choice would be restart the DC into safe mode. -
Unable to login to presentation services after doing the upgrade 10g to 11g
Hi All,
I had a running instance of OBIEE 11g 11.1.1.6.0, my 11g rpd and webcatlog was working fine. Imp to note is that, I had configured external LDAP authenticator and wasn't using the weblogic embedded LDAP.
Now, today, I had to updrage 10g RPD and Webcatlog to 11g and merge into the my current 11g system. I ran the upgrade utitlity and it completed the upgrade successfully but now when I try to login into presentation services using the weblogic user, the presentation services gets hung. It doesn't even give me a message like "Invalid login or password" I DON't get any message but my Presentation services and RPD gets hung( when I try to open it online)
Also, I am trying to refresh the GUIDs after making the necessary changes in the config and instanceconfig.xml file i start the obi server and presentation server, it doesn't come up. So I am unable to refresh my GUIDs
What could be issue here? Do I need to fix an credential file? Please let me know.
Thanks,

Problems starting services after virtualising Crystal server
We have virtualised our crystal server and the machine starts up but we are getting errors when starting the services and a message
"There is an error: A server running on a machine different from the CMS machine may not register to the CMS with your current set of license keys. The product must be upgraded.. It is with server APM-WP-CRYSTAL2.EVENTSERVER"
the cms server is showing true for alive and enabled
crystal reports cache server is false for both and so are all other servers.
we have had new license keys provided but this has not workedHi Mark,
Can you let us know is this key was working earlier.
Try to Enable all the servers and then restart the servers.
Also Stop your Central configuration manager and restart all services.
Is this enterprise version is a named user or concurrent user's version.
Just let us know if any.

I am trying to write a PowerShell script that will restart the SNMP Service on a server. The server in question is an HP server that has the various HP Insight agents installed, and some of these depend on the SNMP Service. One of these services
also depends on one of the other HP Insight services (that in turn depends on SNMP Service).
I can easily write a script that stops and starts the specific services in order, but I don't want to do that. I like to create scripts that are as flexible as possible. In this case, I'd like to write a script that takes a service name as input
and can restart that service, including any dependents (and dependents of those dependents, and dependents of those dependents). They way to do this seems to be recursion, but I simply cannot get it to work correctly. Here is what I have so far
(just trying to get the services to stop in the correct order):
$MainServiceName = "SNMP"
$ServiceInput = ""
$CurrentService = ""
$Service = ""
function Custom-Stop-Service ($ServiceInput)
Write-Host "Name of `$ServiceInput: $($ServiceInput.Name)"
Write-Host "Number of dependents: $($ServiceInput.DependentServices.Count)"
If ($ServiceInput.DependentServices.Count -gt 0)
ForEach ($Service in $ServiceInput.DependentServices)
Write-Host "Dependent of $($ServiceInput.Name): $($Service.Name)"
If ($Service.Status -eq "Running")
Write-Host "$($Service.Name) is running."
$CurrentService = Get-Service -Name $Service.Name
Custom-Stop-Service $CurrentService
Write-Host "Stopping service $($CurrentService.Name)"
Stop-Service -Name $CurrentService.Name -Force
Else
Write-Host "$($Service.Name) is stopped."
Else
Write-Host "Stopping service $($ServiceInput.Name)"
Stop-Service -Name $ServiceInput.Name
$MainService = Get-Service -Name $MainServiceName
If ($MainService.Status -eq "Stopped")
Write-Host "Service $($MainService.Name) is already stopped."
Else
Custom-Stop-Service $MainService
However, it doesn't work like I expect. Firstly, it never attempts to stop the SNMP service itself. Secondly while it does seem to stop all the dependents of SNMP correctly, it tries to stop CqMgHost twice. Here is the output:
PS C:\Scripts> .\restart_service.ps1
Name of $ServiceInput: SNMP

Can someone suggest a different script or changes to my script so that it will do what I want? I know that "Stop-Service -Name SNMP -Force" will work but there are two problems with this: 1) it doesn't record the stop events for the dependents in the
Event Viewer and 2) it doesn't work in reverse ("Start-Service -Name SNMP -Force" nor "Restart-Service -Name SNMP -Force" restart the main service and the other services that depend on SNMP that were stopped).
I'm a little surprised that Restart-Service doesn't behave like the restart function in the Services MMC does, where it easily and reliably handles the stops and starts of not only the service itself, but dependent services and also properly does event logging.I decided to try to understand why you see layers of dependencies. I found that on WS2008 R2 HP managemnet does have a second layer. It does not incluse anything but subservices from HP> VSC is not a dependency and, from my research,
should not ever be a dependency. Of course this does not stop someone from making it a dependency which could create issues.
Here is a recursive function that will display all dependencies of any service or all services,
The code returns the service names in order and can be used to restart all services in dependent order.
function Get-Depends{
[CmdLetBinding()]
Param(
$servicename='SNMP',
$level = 0,
[switch]$infoonly
try{
Write-Verbose $($("`t" * $level)+$servicename)
$servicename
$services=get-service $servicename -ea stop | where{$_.dependentservices}|select -expand dependentservices
if($services){
$services | %{Get-Depends $($_.Name) ($level+1) }
catch{
$_
$depends=Get-Depends -v
The verbose switch displays a hierarchical display of names to ilustrate the dependencies.
