Is it my display or graphic card in apple macbook 2008

Half my screen is fine. The other half is flickering. If there is a picture on the screen, part is fine, the other part seems to be missing pixels. I think it may be the graphic card because the screen looks fine 5% of the time.

Find your original OS X disks that came with the system and run the Apple hardware test.

how to disable the graphics card of my macbook air please?

I'm guessing there is a language issue here.  The graphics card is the actual hardware (chip) in your computer that allows it to create graphics and show them on your display.  There is no way to disable the graphics card on your Air because there would be no way to use it (it would not be able to display anything on any display).  This is a little different on machines with multiple graphics processors, but that's not the case with your Air.  I'd imagine you know what you want to do, we're just having trouble understanding your question.

  • How to update graphics card drivers for late 2008 macbook pro with Nvidia 9600m GT?

Can anybody help me update the drivers for my 9600m GT graphics card for my Late 2008 Macbook pro? I am running OS X Lion 10.7.5 with a Windows 7 partition. I have tried finding support on Nvidia's website, but at least for the 9600m GT, it isn't supported for my operating system. Would I have to update it from my Windows side? And if so, would the update apply to my OS X side as well? I have a little computer knowledge, but nothing indepth.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
In OS X, Apple provides the GPU drivers and you cannot update them from NVIDIA. They are updated with each OS X update, so you are running the most recent drivers for your OS X version. OS X Mountain Lion and Mavericks have got more recent GPU drivers, but it's not worth upgrading unless you need newer drivers for an app (I highly doubt this).
However, you can update the GPU drivers in Windows, and you should do it to get the best performance. You can download them from the NVIDIA site > http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us Note that drivers are only applied in the operating system you are installing them, so they will not be installed in OS X

  • Graphics card in the MacBook

I'm about to buy the black Macbook, but I'm afraid that the Intel GMA 950 graphics processor is not good enough for the apps like iPhoto and iMovie.
Will I have to buy a MacBook Pro to run these apps satisfying or is the graphics card in the MacBook enough?
      Windows XP Pro

The entire iLife suite will run beautifully on the MacBooks with the GMA950 chipset. It is only when you attempt to play some higher end games that the chipset falls short.

    Buy a new one?
Seriously, you can't upgrade a video card on a laptop, unless your a electronics whiz or something.
The Intel HD 3000 is a integrated graphics, meaning the CPU does the graphics and isn't all that great because GPU's are more powerful than CPU's apparently.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The most powerful vidoe cards are in desktop machines which you can exchange, and for less money Windows tower is a better 3D gaming platform as it comes with Windows when you buy the comptuer (a $300 savings) most games are on Windows because of the less expensive and open hardware.
However!  If your into 3D gaming and need a Mac laptop, then you'll need a
2.2 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro with 1GB Radeon 6750M video card or
2.2 Ghz 17" Macbook Pro with 1GB Radeon 6750M video card.
(2.3Ghz is fine too, not all that much faster really)
This Radeon 6750M is THREE times faster than the pitiful Intel HD 3000.
The object being is you buy as much video card performance up front as you can, and play all the latest games at over 50 fps on max settings!
Then over time as new games come out and demand more hardware, you trim down the graphics in the game itself to keep the frame rate up.
Eventually though, you'll have to buy a new MacBook Pro, because you can't (reasonably) change the video card in laptops like you can with a desktop like a Windows PC tower or a MacPro.
The iMac you can't do squat with neither. Which is a shame actually.

I desperatly need a new Graphics Card for my Early 2008 Mac Pro.
Bellow are the listed and supported graphics cards from apple site.
None of the cards listed for early 2008 is possible (Very hard) to get here in Norway.
I've read some treads here saying that ATI Radeon HD 5870 will work on Early 2008 Mac Pro.
    - Can someone please verify that this will work?
    - On the Note for early 2009 The radeon HD 5870 card requires Mac OS X v10.6.4 or later and it requires the use of both auxiliary power connections?

    Robban1978,
I have 27 Apple Mac Pro's (between work/office, home, and clients), and have four Apple Mac Pro's (just at home) and I have purchased the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 graphics cards (7970PE53GHZ) for each of the 27 computers and the graphics cards do work great in all of my Apple Mac Pro computers (2008, 2010, and two 2012 Apple Mac Pro).
The only problem is that I have to boot directly into Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 to use the graphics cards because Diamond/Radeon/AMD have not released graphics drivers for the Radeon 7970 for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion (as of yet?)

Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will release updated graphics drivers for OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion, and I believe the Diamond Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition graphics card is probably the best graphics card out on the market (based on it's price/performance), the only problem/issue is there are no OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers for the Radeon HD 7970 series graphics cards yet.
Hopefully AMD/Radeon/Diamond will work on developing and releasing OS X 10.8.x Mountain Lion drivers.

  • No display switched graphics card

So at work I've used two different towers--a 2007 Mac Pro, and lately a 2009 Mac Pro tower. I made the switch because the 07, while generally decently fast, was having some harddrive errors and making me a bit nervous about how long it would last.
The ideal swap was to move my user to the 2009 tower, which has better specs in most everything BUT graphics card--and then swap the graphics cards. The 2007 had a ATI Radeon x1920 xt and the 2009 came with a Nvidia GeForce GT120.
My coworker and I swapped the graphics cards and put the Radeon in the 2009 and the Nvidia in the 2007 and booted both machines--but neither had a display. The machines booted up, just... black, no display connection at all. We switched back to make sure we hadn't broken anything--worked just fine.
The 2009 machine already had drivers for both brands--Nvidia and ATI. I tried researching online but the general consensus among the Apple crowd is that the machine should already have the drivers, and at least display should be a given?
Seems like this is a simple problem! I must be missing a really basic step, simply because I've not done it before, don't know the process, and can't find a specific tutorial online.
Also, the Radeon required an additional power source, but it was plugged in. I can't think of anything to troubleshoot beyond this, I really don't know enough.

The card you mentioned (Radeon X1920) is not offically supported on any model Mac Pro:
Mac Pro (all models): Graphics card compatibility between models
If you mean the X1900, that does not support 64-bit kernel, so it will not work in 2008 and later models.

  • Windows Graphics Card for Apple Display (23")

I gave my wife my 23" Cinema Display when I bought my 30". She is using an Alienware that is about 2 years old. The computer works fine except that the monitor must be unplugged when she starts it up or it will not boot. She will normally unplug the monitor, hit the power button, and wait for the mouse to light up before plugging the monitor in. She is becoming quite frustrated.
Anyone know a trick to get it fixed and it not, do you know how to be sure we wont have the same probably if we get a new graphics card? I'm assuming hers does not support DDC but when I look on Nvidia's website, they don't really say any of their cards do. She is happy with the card she has except for this issue so I would hate to buy a new one if we don't have to.
    Thanks,

A search of this forum (or of the web) should return many hits for posts regarding which peecee video cards are compatible with the Apple displays. As you have discovered, not all are. And not all "compatible" cards give the same results. For example, some will display the windoze boot screens and some will not.

    Hi there Chiefinho,
You may find the troubleshooting steps toward the bottom of the article below helpful. Please keep in mind, diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

  • Can't update AMD graphics card drivers in Macbook Pro 15" 2011

I've been having this problem for a while now, and from what I understand, it's a fairly common issue with bootcamp but I have not been able to find a solution to the problem nonetheless. I am using a 15" Macbook Pro from 2011 (purchased in early September, not sure if that was before the 'late 2011' model or not), running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 through bootcamp v4.0. The graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6750m last updated on 6/13/2011 to version 8.812.0.0.
I have tried many times to update the card using the AMD catalyst control center supposedly made for windows 7 in bootcamp, but no matter what compatibility options I choose, the installer either tells me there is no graphics adapter (auto detect) or just crashes immediately after starting installation of the catalyst control center. I've also attempted reinstalling bootcamp several times, each with a fresh download of the windows support software, though I have not completely uninstalled Windows 7. I'm not sure if the problem is with the bootcamp drivers themselves or with AMD's software or a combination of both, and a solution would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I know this is completely the wrong spot for this, but while I'm here, does anybody else have issues running EA's Origin download service? I just installed it in bootcamp a few days ago to play Mass Effect 3, and ever since then my computer gets display lag (e.g. in windows media player the video freezes for a few seconds at a time, while the sound continues playing) sometimes, especially during and after attempting to play Mass Effect 3. I already checked to make sure that both Origin and Mass Effect 3 are fully up to date, so I thought it might have something to do with the graphics card.
Anyway, thanks for the assistance, and I apologize for asking a question that has probably been answered several times. I searched through several posts, I couldn't find any answers to my problem.

Despite all of these helpful posts from the community, I'm still coming up short. I'm attempting to update my ATI Radeon HD 6770m driver on windows 7 64-bit. I've followed this guide:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3866652?start=0&tstart=0
(third post down) - I also use Drive Sweeper after using CCCleaner and device manager uninstall.
Every time I attempt to install the driver after rebooting, I receive an error message stating "Driver install: the INF file was not found" with a log stating that the driver failed to install upon completion.
When I attempt to use control panel>Device Manager>Display Adapters>Update Driver Software>Browse My Computer For Driver Software and then choose the appropriate file path (including subfolders) or by choosing from a list of device drivers and selecting one of the two inf files in c:/amd/support/12-2_mobility../packages/drivers/display/w76a_inf, I receive the following error message:
"Windows Encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
    AMD Radeon HD 6700m Series
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
If you know the manufacturer of your device, you can visit its website and check the support section for driver software."
I'm hitting nothing but dead ends here. I just want to play SWTOR with an updated driver!
Please provide a detailed, step-by-step solution (if you have one). It is not safe to assume that I have any experience regarding graphics drivers or running windows in bootcamp. Thanks in advance.
