Hey mike,
the static IP of 192.168.1.5 has to be assigned to one of the wireless PC's that you have....make sure that you assign the static IP to the "wireless network connection" . once you have done so....check if you are able to see the SSID of the WER54G..connect to that SSID...and then try to ping 192.168.1.240 from the command prompt...if you get replies...then try to upgrade the firmware.
Can someone walk me through the steps of assigning the static IP to the "wireless network connection" referred to in the last post? I would assume you would right click on My Network Places, then right click on the "wireless network connection", but give me the steps after that. I don't want to screw anything up. Also, is it necessary to turn the router off, or can I just temporarily disable the connection on my laptop?
Thanks,

  • HP Officejet Pro 8000 Wireless: HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.

Installing new printer,  getting error msg saying HP printer unable to connect to wireless router.   MAC address filtering may be enabled on your wireless router which can prevent HP printer from connecting to your wireless network during setup.
SOLUTION says:  If MAC address filtering is enabled and you would like to keep it enabled, you must add the MAC addressof your printer to the list of permitted devices for your wireless router before continuing.
My router is WD My Net N900 Router. MAC filtering is diabled. My security mode is WPA/WPA2 Personal.
I have run out of ideas to try and fix the issues, would appreciate some help.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jamshidk
I am surprised you are getting that message and you checked the router settings and it is showing that the Mac Filtering is disabled.
I would suggest connecting the printer to the router with a ethernet cable to get a valid IP address and then setup the wireless.
    Print a configuration report.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01554589&lc=en&product=3760410&tmp...
Type the IP address from the configuration page  in the address bar into internet explorer browser. This will open the embedded web server for the printer. Click on the Networking tab, on the left hand side select wireless. After this is setup and applied, disconnect the ethernet cable.
Should be on the wireless network. Takes about 1 minute.
    Run the add printer wizard.
Go to start, devices and printers and select add a printer. (Win 7)
    Test the printer.

my Ipad and itouch cannot be connected ti wireless router tried changing setting still cannot connect

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

  • Trying to connect Verizon wireless router to Airport Extreme but error says Ethernet unplugged.

Trying to connect Verizon wireless router to Airport Extreme and error says Ethernet Unplugged.

So, AirPort Utility running on the Windows Vista desktop can "see" the AirPort Extreme and displays its icon, but gives that error message at some point in the setup process? How far does it get?
Other questions that may help me (or somebody else) understand your problem better:
Which of the pieces were verified as working before the introduction of the AirPort Extreme?
Did you have the desktop computer attached to the Verizon GT704WGB with one of the Ethernet cables you are now trying to use? Which one? Have you tried the other one to be sure it also works?
Are you using the same port on the GT704WGB? Have you tried another one?
If the desktop has multiple ethernet ports, are you using the same one?
Had you done any special configuration of the ethernet port on the Verizon GT704WGB to get it to work with your desktop?
What category ethernet cable are you using? 3? 5? 5e? 6?

  • Windows 7 on Mac 10.6 cannot connect to wireless router

We have just installed Windows 7 on our new MacBook; it is partitioned, obviously; and we can't connect to the internet. We have a wireless router (and are using ATT, if that makes a difference), which works fine for the Mac side of things. We just had a 1 on 1 session at a Mac store, and had the necessary software update(s) installed to make Windows 7 run, which it seems to do -- except for connecting to the internet. The message Windows gives us is "you are not connected". BIG HELP!!! So what don't I know?
When I try to connect, it lists the wireless network (ours). As far as I know, the proper information about the router, including the password, has been input.

    Hi,
Go to the Sierra website and look for their supporrt area. I did see Mac OS compatibiity, but it doesn't mention Snow Leopard. Most likely they haven't updated their software/hardware for 10.6
The only mention of Mac OS here is 10.4. That was Tiger, two operating systems back from Snow Leopard.

  • Can't get older mac to connect to wireless router

I have an older G4 mac, which had an Airport wireless snow type of router. I've currently upgrade to an iMac with an Airport Extreme router. I can't get the old G4 to 'see' the Airport Extreme Network, so I can use the other computer to check email and get on the internet. Do I have to load in the same Airport software on both machines? Any help will be appreciated.

On my G4, I have the software installed which I used when setting up my other wireless router, the snow M8440. Could this be the problem?
Yes. Let's take a step back. You can use any computer to configure your new Airport Extreme, but first be sure you have installed the Airport Utility program from the link I posted above. The earlier version of Airport Utility you used for your Snow Airport doesn't have the necessary features to configure your new Airport Extreme.
The only reason to keep the old Airport Utility program would be to configure your old Snow Airport Base Station, which you're not using any more. So put it aside.
Since you're having trouble getting your G4 to connect at all, it makes sense to use your new iMac to configure your new AirPort Extreme. So let's use it for now.
The ability to use the dual band feature of the new Extreme is described starting on page 20 of the following: Apple Airport Networks (early 2009). The document is very lengthy but don't let that bother you - Apple's Airport base stations are extremely versatile and the manual gets very detailed, but most of it won't concern you.
I made a wireless network named Airport Extreme on my iMac.
The way you worded this concerned me, so at the risk of sounding Presidential, "let me be clear"
Technically, you don't want to create a wireless network on your iMac - the wireless network with which you want to connect is created by your Extreme, and you use Airport Utility to make that happen.
Your Airport icons on all your computers should look like one of these:
    If it looks like this:
then you have created a "computer to computer network". You don't want that.
Next: the passage of the Apple Airport Networks manual above also describes how to set up your Airport Network's wireless security...
I click on the Airport Extreme, the next window comes up with Wireless Security: WEP password. I type in my password I used to set up the Airport Extreme network, and get the following error message: There was an error joining the Airport network "Airport Extreme". ...
I advocate using no security at first, to eliminate one roadblock when first configuring a network. After everything works, set up WPA or WPA2 Personal. I'm reasonably sure your G4 supports it. The older WEP protocol is no longer considered secure - it amounts to "feel-good" security.
I trust this gets things pointed in the right direction. If you're still stuck write back and we'll get you un-stuck. Your G4 will work with your new Extreme.

  • E72 connectivity to Wireless Router

    HI
I have E72. I need to connect internet in my laptop via E72.
First I need to connect my E72 to my home wireless router & then want to use
this connectivity to run internet in my laptop.
I want mobile option to work as one of my OS doesnot have wireless driver.
I searched & googled lot but in vain.
Kindly help me to configure this.

So that is a configuration that will definitely work? WET54 connected to a wired or wireless router so that you can join two networks.
What I have been thinking of is replacing one of the antennas of a WRT54G with a directional 14dB antenna. Then use a WET54 also with a directional antenna pointed at the WRT54G. Another WRT54G connected to the WET54 to provide a wireless signal to the remote location.
I had thought of a Range Extender but there is nothing to provide power at end of the range of the first WRT54G.

  • MacBook Pro Cannot Connect to Wireless Router

I have a brand new MBP and it won't connect to any non-apple wireless routers
    - my computer is 2 days old (it's awesome and I love it accept that I can't get wireless connection at home)
    - wireless router: westell versalink model 327 W
    - PROBLEM: my mbp will detect the network just fine, but won't connect to it...just times out, it will connect to a neighbors linksys, but cannot load any internet pages, so still not helpful. When I try to connect to the wirelesss router using the network utility it asks for a WEP password, which it never did before because it's an open wireless router. (I know you should always password protect, but it's not my router...I'm just in the same house)
    - I had a powerbook G4 and ibooks that have all connected fine to the same wireless network. My dad has an HP laptop that also connects fine
    - it only connects to the apple brand airport wireless routers
    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
    - I have tried checking the connections, allowing all connections, repairing my disk permissions (even though my computer is only 2 days out of the box), resetting the router, opening the router so no password is needed...NOTHING WORKS!
    - I also tried another wireless router (netgear): doesn't work
I've been reading around in some forums and this seems to be an apple and maybe more specifically a macbook pro issue (just by process of elimination). One forum said that it was because of an airport update that basically "breaks" mbp's airport and makes it not accept any non airport wireless connections, apple supposedly is working on a fix but who knows
I'm feeling disappointed and very upset that this is even a problem, especially with how many people I read are dealing with the same issue wit still no solution. My mbp was far from cheap and this just shouldn't be an issue. I'm planning on contacting apple and getting to bottom of this or at least some kind of answer.

    - it will connect to the wireless router if I plug in the ethernet cord
this is because there is an actual physical connection between the router and the machine, so the router allows the connection automatically. i believe ALL wireless routers have a "Wireless Access List" in their config. the owner of the wireless router must add any machine or device seeking to gain access to the wireless router. consult your routers documentation on how to access the router from a web page and add your machine. this is usually done by adding the machine's mac address to the wireless access list. i added my 15"mbp and iphone to my netgear wireless router in about ten minutes and have no problem connecting every time.
also, when making any changes in Network Preferences, be sure to "Apply" after any change or adding any wep key. let me know if you have any questions.

  • P2055dn no longer connects via wireless router

I recently replaced my wireless router, an ancient Airport Extreme, with a Linksys WRT120N, not exactly state of the art but still an improvement. At first I couldn't connect to my p2055dn, which I plugged into the router. It no longer showed up as a Bonjour printer when I tried to add it. Then I changed the network mode setting on the router from Wireless-N to Mixed, which got the printer to show up as a Bonjour printer. I then added it and all was well. Now, however, the printer is again not showing up at all. I can still print directly with an ethernet cable to the printer but not wirelessly. The only thing that has changed is that I had to reinstall OS X 10.10.3, but I don't see why that should have changed anything, particularly since the printer is no longer showing up on our other computers. My inclination is that the problem has to do with the router settings but maybe there's something I can configure on the printer to get it to play nice with the router? Any suggestions very welcome.

    OK..
I don't know if this is going to work for all 3 of you or not. Josephlee this might work for you, since you have AT&T DSL. Then again, it might or might not work for any of you. I am currently a BellSouth DSL customer. I had to set my modem to "bridge mode" before being able to use my Linksys WRT54G to access the internet. I can't explain how to set your DSL modem to "bridge mode." Your internet service provider will have to do that. If any of you can get your modem set to "bridge mode" I can give you some advice...
If you can get your DSL modem (Verizon, AT&T, Bellsouth, etc.) set to "bridge mode" this should help you out. By setting your modem to bridge mode, this allows your Linksys router to control all internet access. Basically it opens up your  DSL modem to allow any and all internet access straight through it, just like opening a water line. If your modem is set to bridge mode, let's continue...
Open Internet Explorer or whatever web browser you use. Go to http://192.168.1.1 to access your Linksys router's dialog. Hopefully you know the user name and password. The default (factory settings) are:
    username:                <<< leave blank
    password: admin
If you make it this far..
You will be at the Setup/Basic Setup tab
Internet Connection type you want is PPPoE
User Name: is the current login for your DSL account
Password: is the current password for your DSL account
(Remember that your router [not DSL modem] is controlling your access)
Select: Keep Alive and leave default (Not Connect on Demand)
Click on Save (and follow on screen instructions)
Next navigate to the Status tab
Once there, you should see Login Status. It should be Disconnected.
    Click the Connect button.
Click Save if prompted. (and follow on screen instructions)
    Now.. close ALL browser windows.
Re-open your web browser and check for internet connectivity. Some computers may require a reboot. My Win XP Pro doesn't.
I pray that helps you guys out!

  • Printer will no longer connect to wireless router.

My printer won't connect to my router.....I disconnected a Vonage phone from my router, never touched the printer, but since disconnecting the phone, the printer no longer works....I've shut my cable box, router, computer and printer down and re-connected in that order....I've attempted multiple times to connect to the WPS from the printer both by pushbutton and PIN....and I've been unable to find anything on line to help with troubleshooting...any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi @MKhelp
Thank you for reaching out to the HP Forums, I'd be happy to help you work towards getting your 3054 back online.
I can help you put the printer on your wireless network without software. I use this method for iPads, iPhones and other devices that do not have software.
Restore the network defaults on the printer by pushing the wireless button, going to settings, and then restore defaults. The wireless button should then start flashing, this means it is now in autowireless mode.
Connect to the network that the printer is broadcasting. It is usually HP-setup-3054 and then part of the MAC address. The wireless light will still be flashing on the printer at this point, this is normal since this is not an actual adhoc connection.
Load up the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in the browser on your mobile device. The default IP for autowireless is 192.168.223.1.
Go to the network tab along the top of the EWS.
Click on Wireless Setup Wizard along the lefthand side to begin configuring the printer.
You have now completed the Wireless configuration, follow the next 3 steps to start printing.
The blue wireless light will go solid, put the Mac back on your own network.
Add the printer to the System Preferences.
    Print

    Hello @Derek_W,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're trying to connect the Officejet 6110 to your home network by plugging a USB port to your router. I will do my best to assist you! If this is your printer here, you cannot do this. You have to use a USB cord to your printer and computer. I will provide the Manual here. On page 55, explains on how to connect your printer.
If you have a different model number, then please let me know. If you have any further questions let me know as well. Have a great night!

  • Airport refuses to connect to wireless router... most of the time

I'm having a really odd problem with my MacBook Pro trying to connect to the internet via my wireless ZyXEL router. I've had the router for a while and use it to connect a Mac Pro and PC by LAN and a Wii and iPhone wirelessly and It's never given me a headache before.
Airport picks up the local WIFI networks, including mine, no problem. But when it tries to connect, after asking for the WEP Password, it just times out. I have tried creating the network connection manually within the "Network" area under "System Preferences" selecting various security methods (WEP Password, WEP 40/128-bit ASCII and None) but nothing works. And everytime I manually select the ZyXEL network it asks for the WEP password anyway. No matter how many times I put it in, it wont connect.
I also logged into the system preferences of the ZyXEL wireless router and input the MacBook Pro's MAC address and selected "allow access" but it still wont connect. Except just one time, when I simply turned Airport Off and On again it connected fine and didn't ask for the WEP Password?!? But then after I rebooted machine It won't connect again and turning Airport Off and On doesn't work anymore either.
Can anyone shed some light on the problem?
    Thanks very much

You may have noticed that your issue is fairly common and no one single solution works. So all I can offer is a few things that I know have worked for me, my friends and colleagues, and my customers.
    1) make sure your computer can connect wirelessly elsewhere. There's little worse than struggling with an issue at home only to discover it wasn't fixable.
    2) make sure your base station's firmware is up to date
    3) try turning off the security on your base temporarily and see if you can connect that way. If so, try a different security method.
    4) try changing broadcast channels. You may have a neighbor on the same channel which blocks reception - I know, why this computer and not others? Voodoo
    5) open your Network preference tab and select Airport. Delete any preferred networks you find and make sure that ask to join new networks is checked
    6) create a new account and see if it has any better luck connecting. Last spring I struggled with a computer for several days and one of my IT students suggested this pointing out that I suggest it for many other troubleshooting issues. Darn smart aleck student! Obviously at some point the admin's network prefs got munged and everything I tried after that was for naught.
    Good luck

  • Error message when connect to wireless router with wifi enabled phone

    Wireless router model WRT54G Ver.2
i would like to seek help on this.
I have been using a wirreless router to access the internet with my computer and it has been working fine. recently i got a handphone with wifi capability (nokia 5800). I managed to connect the phone to connect to the wireless router (it says so in the phone status). but when i tried to open the browser in the phone i got an error message "No Gateway Reply".
Can anyone help me to troubleshoot?
    I enable WEP for security.
another thing is, i tried to use the phone to connect to another wireless router at the cafe, it worked well.
    thanks

When you connect your handphone to your wireless network, whats the IP address you are getting it on your handphone, if required you can provide a static ip on your handphone i.e IP : 192.168.1.10, Subnet : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1, DNS1: 4.2.2.2, DNS2 : 4.2.2.1 and after this you can restart your handphone and try to check if you are able to go online or not.

  • Unable to maintain internet connection using wireless router

I posted a bug report with Apple, 7229097. Not sure if anyone has been able to fix this. I tried the suggestions on the board (create location, reboot router, clean install, normal install, delete config etc.) I have narrowed the issue down to my router, which works fine under 10.5.8.
    Summary:
I have trouble maintaining an internet connection using my Dell TrueMobile 1184 Wireless Broadband Router, model wx-6215D. If I connect directly to my cable modem, I have no internet issues. So, it seems the issue is using the Router, both wireless or using RJ45 cable.
    Steps to reproduce:
Connect to my wireless router using Airport or RJ45. Browse to a page using Safari or Firefox. First page usually comes up, but is incomplete. Start using refresh or click on more pages, after 1 - 5 refreshes, clicking on links, you get a notice that you are no longer connected to the internet. If you open terminal and execute "dscacheutil -flushcache" you can get your internet back, but will degrade to no internet after 1 - 5 page refreshes.
    Expected result:
    Internet browsing should be fine
    Actual result:
Internet degrades until browser reports no internet connection.
    Regression:
Go back to 10.5.8 system and no problem exists. Only happens when you upgrade to 10.6 and 10.6.1.
    Notes:
I have tried doing the recommended installation, and erasing the hard drive and installing - in both cases I have the same result. Router works fine for PC and 10.5.8. I have since installed 10.6.1 to a USB drive to do any further testing and would appreciate a patch or a timeline for a patch before I move my system to 10.6.1

I tried adding in the OpenDNS ip 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
It appears that the router is hijacking DNS calls.
Funny thing though, DNS is resoving through the router, .2.1
    nslookup apple.com

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com

So, the router is giving up the IP address. Also, even though Safari, Firefox and others report no internet, nslookupk continues to work. The router works, but 10.6.1 doesn't seem to like what it gets from the router. Also, not sure a firmware upgrade is required for the router, if there even is one, because it works with both of my PCs and my Mac running 10.5.8.
