Is it necessary to have Adobe Reader on my computer and how to get it?

We usually experience a number of problems while downloading and viewing online documents. These documents are available in different formats, IRS, PDF and video files are some examples. Sometimes we receive a message ‘you need to install specific software to view the required document’. It is really a critical situation. However, we are thankful to Adobe who have introduced a number of software that can be of great help while dealing with such online documents.
Though a lot of useful links are available on the web about such issues, however, even then some of our friends find it difficult to handle such tasks. Therefore, I have started this discussion in order to provide helpful information about how to open and view such documents. In this discussion I will try to find out solution to common problems being faced by most of the users. I will try to get updates from different sources and to share the information so received with the participants so that everyone can take benefit of others’ knowledge. Also salient features of various products of Adobe will be discussed to make my readers familiar with various Adobe products.

When I close Firefox and then come back to it layer a box comes up that says it's already running. It ays to close Firefox first but when I hit close nothing happens and the box comes up again. I have to shut down my computer and restart to get into Firef

You don't need to restart your computer to open Firefox again: you just need to close it manually through your application manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC in Processes tab). Anyway, hopefully this support article is what you need:

What's probably happening is that you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

HT204347 I need to find out what is wrong with my Macbook Pro. I have Adobe Reader installed on it and Adobe Flashplayer installed on it. I am not able to do anything with either of these programs, no videos, printing certificates, etc.

I have adobe reader installed on my Macbook Pro and also Adobe flashplayer installed. I am not anble to see any video from the net, news feeds, or anything like that on my computer. I cannot print off certificates that I need all it does when I attempt to print the certificate is that it shows that it is loading and comes back and tells me there was an error in loading the information. I am trying to fix some things on my vista laptop and a tech that is helping me said that a scan I ran showed that the reader needed to be up dated, but when he checked into it further he said that I had a higher up date then what was on your down load page. What is the latest version of the reader?

The installer download for Adobe Reader on Vista is 10.1.4.
However, there are update patches available up to 10.1.9 on http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=10&platform=Windows

My desktop is covered with Adobe Reader icons. Why? How to get rid of them?

For some reason, my desktop recently become infested with Abobe Acrobat icons. I did nothing. one day I turned on my computer and of the maybe 100 icons on my desktop were changed to the Acrobat icons (or at least something that looks very much like it). The programs that they are connected to all still work.
So this is something that came along from the web (apparently) and switched in new icons for many of the programs on my desktop. Or what else I do not know.
The issue is how can I change all of these icons back to the images that they have been since the programs were installed or the file was stored on my desktop?
I actually saw the transition occur. All of a sudden my desktop flickered and 60 or 70 of the 160 icons on it were for Adobe Reader and, in fact, look exactly like the Adobe Readr icons I see now on this web page!!@!!
