I'm not aware of any being for sale and if there are it's a scam. bash is free software provided to Apple and many other computer software developers.
If you are still running Snow Leopard and you feel the need to patch bash, you will have to compile it for yourself.
Note that Apple is on record as saying:
The vast majority of OS X users are not at risk to recently reported bash vulnerabilities," an Apple spokesperson told iMore. "Bash, a UNIX command shell and language included in OS X, has a weakness that could allow unauthorized users to remotely gain control of vulnerable systems. With OS X, systems are safe by default and not exposed to remote exploits of bash unless users configure advanced UNIX services.

  • Why not an official bash bug update for OSX

The is an 'unofficial' download on Apple Support web, but not it isn't available as a part of 'normal' software update. Why? Is the patch insecure or a bet-version? There is a lot of comments in social networks about a new generation of malware able to infect Mac devices. It's true? (Look at Dr. Web site).

The Bash bug and the iWorm malware are not related. The Bash bug update – which is quite official – is only relevant for a small group of users (those that are running a server). The iWorm trojan affects all users: they all receive an update for XProtect automatically: http://www.macrumors.com/2014/10/04/iworm-malware-xprotect/

  • ShellShock / Bash bug / iOS 7, 8 vulnerable or not?

    Hi,
does anyone has a confirmation that iOS is also vulnerable to current ShellShock (problem with Bash)?
Has anyone tested this on your iDevices?
    Thx.

iOS doesn't appear to use bash, so you wouldn't be vulnerable.
If you use software that is visible to the outside world and uses bash, then you would be at risk. Since most Mac users don't have a lot in the way of external facing software, (software that other users access and use resources on your local machine or server), individual users don't have a lot of risk. But if an attacker were to somehow find your machine's name, bash could be exploited, but since iOS doesn't use bash iPhone users don't have anything to worry about.

  • Purchased movies not showing in iTunes for Mac

I'm using the same apple ID on several devices, and am able to access all purchased movies on my Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad. When using iTunes on my Mac, only 25 of the 50 purchased movies viewable elsewhere are accessible. I've tried accessing the missing items through the iTunes store, hoping that they'd be available for download, but am only given the option to purchase them again. Does anyone else have this problem and/or know how to remedy it? I've already tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing, and logging in and out. It has been happening for a while, so I don't think that it is something that was caused by a recent software update.
Thank you for any help that you can provide.

I feel dumb. Solved it for myself. In case anyone else has this issue, instead of looking at purchased items from within your library, go to the iTunes store home page, and select purchased from the menu on the right. Then there will be a tab for "not in my library." This is where your purchased items that haven't been downloaded to your computer reside.

Most users would probably recommend going for the x800 now, as it has come down in price, and is much quieter than the 9800 as supplied.

  • Bash Update 1.0 for macs OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5, OS X Mavericks v10.9.5

Do I upload the following update of 9/29/14 for OS X Lion v10.7.5, OS X Lion Server v10.7.5, OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.5, OS X Mavericks v10.9.5 as I ALREADY AM USING 10.9.5 which indicates Sept 18 update - should I seek it out and load it? It DID NOT come to me as a new update - I was just reading about updates an duplaods in MAC RUMOR, APPLE INSIDER THAN CLICKE DON THE Apple KB. Yes or no? THANKS

Most Mac users are not at risk.  I suspect that the next scheduled security update will include this bug fix.  I suspect it was released as a downloadable patch for Mac users that do things that would put them at risk and for Mac users that are worried (perhaps needlessly).
To be at risk, you need to run a web server AND that web server must be using CGI scripts that either directly use bash scripts or use a web server that invokes a CGI script via a bash command line hand-off.  Very few consumer Mac owners do this, and Mavericks does not include the ability to easily start a web server.
Or you need to configure your Mac to allow anonymous ssh (Secure Shell) logins.  This would be someone that is perhaps running a public GIT Hub source code control system.  Very few Mac owners ever do anything like this.
You have enabled the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) web Interface via a Terminal Session command line command (you would know if you did this).
If you do not do any of these things, it is very unlikely you will be at risk for the ShellShock bash bug.
NOTE:  This bug is very serious business for commercial web servers running on Unix platforms, so I'm trying to downplay the seriousness, just that you have to be a member of a select class of Mac users to be at risk with your Mac OS X system.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

trying to rent movie from Apple TV. Message states a valid address is necessary to purchase. We have purchased about 15 show in the last month along. Any suggestion on how to update valid email address.

I got the same error and can't get it to work.  My email and home address have not changed in the 3 years I've been using this device, my credit card info is up to date and my most recent rental was 2 days ago yet I get the error message on both the Apple TV and in iTunes.  I don't understand what the issue is, nothing is invalid.

I can completely understand your frustration...and I wish you the best of luck.  But as a Finance Manager, trust me, a person with great credit taking a ding on their report for an amount of such will have a heck of an impact...more than you probably are aware of.  Will it stop you from having credit extended to you...probably not...but it will have a significant impact on your score and 99% of all lending institutions don't rely on human eyes to view a credit report...it's all automated.  A credit score is assigned and an interest rate it reflects such.  Very little a human can do to get it altered...trust me, I know.
Fight a good fight with VZW if you so desire...but don't take a perfect credit score and ruin it over this situation.  Even if VZW at some point corrects this issue...getting a TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax to correct an error is tough...really tough...you'd probably have better luck finding a ship at an airport than having them actually correct an error.  I know $7K is a lot to hand over...especially if you're unsure of getting it back...but as crazy as it may seem, and I know it does, excellent credit takes years to build and only 1 bad month to ruin...and it lingers for YEARS!  Again, good luck!

  • A valid address is necessary to purchase using store credit

When I go to purchase on apple TV it says a valid address is necessary to purchase using store credit. I can purchase in iTunes on my iMac. what does this mean and how do I fix this?

usually it means you need to go into your iTunes store profile and update your "State" code.
Pick your state from the drop-down list and all should be well. Looks like at some point they changed the values for the state codes, and now only accept ones input from the drop-down. Annoying problem, but easy enough to fix.

Thanks in advance to anyone from the community who can provide insight.

Typically embedded systems use BusyBox shell which isn't effected.
