Is it necessary to uninstall CS3 before installing CS4?

I currently have CS3 Premium (Student Licsense) on my MacBook. I bought CS4 Premium (also a Student License) from my college and am planning on installing that so that I will be up to date with what is in our graphic design computer lab. But I wasn't sure if I needed to uninstall CS3 before installing CS4. My school doesn't sell the upgrade so I had to buy the actual CS4. I'm pretty sure my laptop doesn't have room for both, but I just wanted to get some feedback on all of this so that I can make sure I'm doing everything correctly.
I was also wondering if my CS3 files that are currently saved on my MacBook will be effected in any way when I uninstall CS3 and install CS4?

No need to uninstall.
In fact its wise to keep the older version until you are familiar with the new version. I have almost all versions of Photoshop going back to 2.5.1 as well as the 4 creative Suites happily installed and working together on my G5.

  • Should I uninstall CS3 before installing CS6? [was:Ton Limburg]

Do I have to uninstall all CS3 applications and extras, before installing CS6?

Of course I'll keep all my in CS3 made files for further use, and I'll upgrade them if needed.
I asked for retaining or removing applications... before installing newer versions, no upgrades.
But don't mention anymore, I deleted them.

  • Do i have to uninstall cs3 before installing lightroom5?

    just the question

There is no need to uninstall CS3. LR5 will recognize that you already have a version of Photoshop installed. But CS3 has an older camera raw plug-in. You will simply get a warning whenever you choose Edit In CS3 from Lightroom. As long as you let Lightroom render the copy being sent to CS3, there should be no problem and it will contain all of the develop settings from LR5. Click on the Open Image button to go straight into the Photoshop CS3 editor. On the first warning about camera raw incompatibility you can choose “do not show again” Just don’t click on Open Anyway otherwise it will open in the older version of camera raw contained in CS3.

  • Can't uninstall CS3 after installing CS4

After I got CS4 installed and working ok, I tried to uninstall CS3. A dialog window showed two components that could be uninstalled; CS3 and Shared components. Both were checked and grayed out so that I could not uncheck Shared components. How can I uninstall CS3?

Thanks, I spoke to Adobe and they said that all I had to do was be patient. The uninstall took about 40 minutes, and it was quite a while before the progress bar budged.

  • Should I uninstall CS3 before installing CS6 (not an upgrade)?

I have unsuccessfully installed CS6 onto a machine that already has CS3. I have gone through the whole CS6 installation and just can't find the new app anywhere - and CS3 is still there.

It should not be necessary. Except for Acrobat all the apps are independent. What OS are you running? Any error messages?

  • Automating the removal of CS3 (before installing CS4)

After much fiddling, I've been able to automate the remove of (the majority) of the CS3 suite on my machines.  I did this using the command:
    [serverpath]\Adobe CS3\setup.exe --mode=silent --deploymentFile=./uninstall.xml (where uninstall.xml specifies
to remove the payloads for CS3, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Bridge, Stock Photos, etc.)
The script ends with Exit Code = 0, so it appears to be successful.  However, when going to Add/Remove programs
after running the script, Adobe Creative 3 Suite still appears there (the actual files are gone from C:\Program Files\Adobe\etc...
Do I need a separate script to remove it from the registry?  Also, is there a way to automate removal of the
ExtendScript Tool?  When I try to include that  in the uninstall.xml, it says it cannot remove it because it
has been updated, and I need to uninstall the update before removing it.
My environment is 100% Windows XP.  This is in preparation of upgrading to CS4, and I'd like to automate the removal of CS3 as much as possible.

    No need to uninstall.

  • Uninstalling CS3 and Installing CS5.5 (Master Collection)

I purchased CS 5.5 master collection so that I could use the current CS3 master collection on another older machine.  My question is this: What is the best way to uninstall the CS3 master collection on my current machine (Windows 7 - 64bit) so I can then install the new full version CS5.5 master collection? Also, is there anything that I need to be aware of as far as backing up on the old software settings?  Just trying to avoid headaches.

The only thing you would need to worry about is any "presets" that you created yourself. So actions, swatches, brushes, etc. need to be backed up. Its best to uninstall cs3 before installing cs5 and not after as this can cause issues with file associations.
If the second computer that your were planning on putting cs3 on is your only other computer, you should be able to put cs5 on it instead, as the license is suppose to be for 2 systems, but only one can run at a time. To my knowledge this license doesn't take into consideration the version number of the software. So if cs5 if on your new system and a laptop for example, you can not put cs3 onto a third computer since the license is for what I assume to be an upgrade.
If you paid full price then the last paragraph is a moot point.

  • Uninstalling CS3 after installing CS5 upgrade

Is it necessary to uninstall CS3 after installing a new copy of CS5 upgrade?  For the sake of not eating up storage space?  Or does CS5 depend on files CS3 has already in place?  I'd like to get Bridge CS3 off my computer since Bridge CS5 is now installed. And CS3 is not appearing in the Add/Remove dialog in Control Panel (Win XP Pro)

Please read this and this. In short: Attempting to remove older versions after the fact is ill advised. It's calling for trouble, especailyl with the fragile CS3 installers. Read the articles and obey proper procedures. Otherwise jsut leave the old version in place.

  • Problems before and after Uninstall and re-install CS4

I went ahead and uninstalled and re-installed CS4 because of freeze ups and other difficulties. Program After Effects is now crashing - see attachment. There is also a problem with an importer plugin (I think) may be related. I can't tell. I have not tried any other projects. I did however, disconnect the Matrox MX02 Mini, but still had problems. The MX02 is now re-connected.
I wonder if installing CS4 on top of CS3 is an issue? I remember having a similar problem goiing from CS2 to CS3. I had to downloader a cleaning utility from Adobe (I think) to remove every bit of CS2 and then run CCleaner.
It's my own fault - trying to upgrade software and hardware at the same time. It's hard to isolate. For now, I'l just have to do with Premiere since it is working. But, I'd sure like to know what's going on.

Did you re-install all other Adobe products as well? If not, then that may be the problem. Uninstalling/ reinstalling only one of them messes with MediaCore and certain otehr functions. The quick fix is to download the manuala (!) update packages for After Effects, Premiere Pro/Encore and Adobe Media Encoder from the support pages and run them. This usually bends things in place. If not, then you will probably have to uninstall again, this time including every Adobe app, use the CS4 Clean Script and reinstall.

  • Uninstall CS3 before or after installation of CS4?

Which is the better route? I know to save ste's from Dreamweaver.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

IMO, the best route is C: none of the above. There is no reason to uninstall CS3. The CS4 installer will uninstall the earlier version of Acrobat and leave everything else alone.
You never know when you'll need that earlier version.

  • Uninstalling CS3 after installing CS5.5?

I have previously installed CS5.5 standard onto my laptop and retained CS3 until I was proficient.  What is the best procedure to now uninstall CS3 and free up some HDD space?  Win7 64 bit OS.  Do I need to deactivate CS3 or will this stop the newer software from running?

    Hi Mylenium,
Thanks for the quick response.  I am a CS novice so your help is appreciated.  Do I need to deactivate both CS3 & CS5.5 before I uninstall?  If so, are there any codes I should write down to allow me to reinstall and reactivate CS5.5?  I have the Upgrade Version of CS5.5 Design Standard.

  • Already have Support Software v5.0 installed, do I need to uninstall it before installing SS v5.1? Please help!

    as title.

    thanks for reply.
anyway, I uninstall the older version before installing the new. for those who having trouble uninstalling Windows software try Fix it software from microsoft (thank rtheb's post).
one thing I didn't mention is that I did a fresh win8 install using boot camp assistant, but at that time the latest boot camp support services available was v4.0 which is not supposed to support win8.
later, when boot camp support services v5.0 final was released, I installed it on top of v4.0 (i.e. without uninstalling v4.0). I couldn't remember if I got a error message for that, but the computer seemed running ok except that I got a error message when uninstalling boot camp support services v5.0 this time.

  • GPO to uninstall Flash before installing 10.1.53.64

When pushing out a software installation for the new install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi, it leaves previous versions installed even though Adobe's Flash test site says that the latest version is installed and in use. However, I'm sure that it is probably "best practice" to push out a script to uninstall all previous versions of Flash [i.e. uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall] before installing the latest version (10.1.53.64).
Is anyone using a GPO to push out a script to uninstall the previous versions of Flash before running the .MSI or .EXE to install the latest version (10.1.53.64)?We have several Flash versions out there, so attempting to Upgrade from an old GPO package AD isn't thorough enough.
I've tried running the uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall file (as a .VBS) with a precedence of 1 before the software installation GPO (as startup scripts), but it produces mixed results, so I'm not sure that this is the best method.
    So, two questions here:
    1) Does anyone forsee any real issue leaving previous versions installed (i.e. not uninstalling before installing new)?
    2) Otherwise, how is everyone handling uninstalling and reinstalling via GPO? Better suggestions on how to and in what order to push out the uninstall and install processes?
    Thanks much for your suggestions!

I am not using GPO, but to the best of my knowledge, the installer should automatically uninstall all previous FP versions.  See the install.log file (if that is produced using GPO).
However, sometimes the installer is unable to remove all components of old FP versions, e.g. if the users have web browsers running during the installation.  This may get fixed during the next reboot, but often it is not.

  • Problems with uninstalling cs3 and installing cs3 again

    Hi all,
I hope someone can help me with this. I have uninstalled cs3 because the
computer prompts me that my activation has stopped working. So as I began to
install my cs3 design premium, the computer prompts me to insert my cd for
my design premium. That is strage as I have already insertted my cd. So as I
click on OK several times(they keep on prmpting me to insert my cd again.
After I clicked on (most probably 20 ~ 30 times), the installer said I have
not successfully installed any of the applications I have selected. Why so?
I suspect I have not uninstalled cleanly. I have uninstalled from the
add/remove components from the windows. Is there anyway to solve this
problem? What am I going to do now??
    Disappointed.

    You probably need to uninstall again .. reboot .. and then follow the <br />instructions on this page.  Download and use the CS3 Clean Up Script for <br />your OS as instructed.<br /><br />http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs3clean.html<br /><br />Then reboot one more time and reinstall.<br /><br /><br />-- <br />Nancy Gill<br />Adobe Community Expert<br />Author:  Dreamweaver 8 e-book for the DMX Zone<br />Co-Author:  Dreamweaver MX: Instant Troubleshooter (August, 2003)<br />Technical Editor:  Dreamweaver CS3: The Missing Manual,<br /> DMX 2004: The Complete Reference,  DMX 2004: A Beginner's Guide<br /> Mastering Macromedia Contribute<br />Technical Reviewer: Dynamic Dreamweaver MX/DMX: Advanced PHP Web Development<br /><br /><br /><[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> Hi all,<br />><br />> I hope someone can help me with this.
