Is it necessary to unregister iPod from old PC?

I've purchased an iPod Touch and am giving my iPod Classic 80gb to my cousin. Do I have to unregister or do anything on my Windows PC with the Classic before I can connect it and get it registered on my cousin's Window PC? I'm not concerned about losing any of the songs during the syncing to the new PC. Thanks for any help you can provide!!
Jim

You don't need to do anything with the old iPod your cousin simply needs to connect it to his/her PC. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc. Press "Erase and Sync" and it will link to the new library and replace your songs with the ones that are on there.
Your cousin will probably want to rename the iPod. When it appears in the iTunes source list click on it's name once to highlight it.
Click on it's its name again.
The text box will open for editing.
Type a new name.
Have a look here for more: How To Rename your iPod
Alternatively your cousin can restore the iPod on his/her computer. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync the songs and videos from the library onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

I have the old ipod touch(without camera) and I received the new one (with camera) as a gift. How do I transfer everything from old one to new one?

Make one final USB sync with the old iPod. The sync includes a backup. Then connect the new iPod to the same computer/iTunes library and restore from the backup of the old iPOd. All the synced media like apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media is not included in the backup that iTunes makes. For how to restore see:

  • Transferring ipod from old computer to new computer

I have recently purchased a MacBook afer many years of owning a PC. I currently have my ipod connected to the old PC and would like to transfer it to my new computer. I have transferred the music files to itunes on the new computer but the ipod is still only syncing properly with the old computer.
How do i properly change the ipod from one computer to another?

You will need to re-sync to your new computer. This will erase all the files on the iPod and put what is in your MacBooks library in.
Be sure you have all the music off the iPod you want save. I like to use YamiPod to do this. It allows you to pull everything off your iPod in case there is some music there that isn't on your old computer.
I hope you enjoy your MacBook as much as I enjoy mine. Makes me wonder why I didn't switch to Macs sooner.

  • Ipod from old mac to new?

Sorry to post this, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere... How do you transfer the music from an Ipod that has a connection to an old computer and put the music on the new computer?
    Thanks,
    scott

Check here and http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131> here  to do it via your iPod. If transferring from Mac to Mac I would just use Firewire or my iPod as a HD and import directly to the new iTunes Library.

  • Restore new ipod from old ipod backup

I am trying to restore a new ipod touch gen. 4 from a backup of my old ipod touch gen. 4  They are the exact same ipod (the first one got crushed).  After completing the restore process, the computer recognizes the ipod but then immediately asks me to "set up your ipod" and wants me to either set it up as a new component or restore AGAIN.  It will not get passed this step.  I can not sync, etc.  HELP!!!!!

Connect to iTunes, Control-click on the iPhone icon in left frame of iTunes and select "Restore from Backup."

  • How to move iTune library and iPod from old XP PC to new Vista PC

I am upgrading from an XP PC to a new Vista PC and would like to know where I can find instructions on what I should do to transfer my iTunes library and my iPod to the new computer. Thanks for any help.

I purchased Copy/Tran and, as you described, it was awesome in transferring all 2538 songs to the new computer.
The only problem remaining is that even though it transferred all songs including the 83 that I had purchased from iTunes, when I synced my iPod with the new computer's iTune library, I got a message saying it could not put the purchased songs on the iPod because they were "not authorized".
Any suggestions on what to do about that?

  • HT2731 my oldest daughter recently bought a new ipod touch and gave her old one to her brother.  I need to know how to unlink the old ipod from her account without losing all the music and games on it.  He would like to have his own account.

My oldest daughter recently bought a new ipod touch and gave her old one to her brother.  How do I unlink his ipod from her account and set up his own without losing the music and apps already on it?

Connect it to his iTunes library and set it up as a new device.  You should be prompted to Erase and Sync the iPod if his iTunes library is separate from hers.
Or head to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Erase all Content and Settings.

  • How do I save songs from old version of iTunes that I have on my iPod, as new verson is asking me to erase and sync before I can do ANYTHNG, and I don't want to lose my music!

    Hi everyone,
    Can anyone help?! Pleeeeease
I have recently bought a new computer (new operating system Windows 7) and downloaded the new iTunes. When I tried to add a new song to my iPod shuffle, it said I had to ERASE and SYNC my iPod to the 'new' iTunes, and there seems to be no way around it. I DON'T repeat DON'T want to lose all my music on my iPod, as I no longer have that music/my old laptop with music on, and there are so many songs on it that it would take like forever to re-download EVRYTHING.
I tried saving playlist on in iTunes, but it only saves it as a Read only file, there are no MP3's in there.
I'm tearing my hair out over this!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Kitty

How you delete content from your iPod depends on how it is set up to sync with your iTunes library whether that be automatically or manually.
If it's automatically, you must reconfigure your settings so that the album you wish to remove is no longer configured to sync to your iPod.  For example, if the Sync only checked songs and videos option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab, make sure all the tracks for this album do NOT have a tick mark next to them in your iPod.  Then resync your iPod with iTunes.
Otherwise, if you manually manage your iPod's contents, you must manually remove content from it.  You can do this by plugging your iPod in and clicking the small black triangle next to your iPod from under the Devices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will open up a submenu of content, so go ahead and click on Music. Locate the track or tracks you wish to delete. Highlight them and hit the Delete key or choose Edit -> Delete.

  • How can i transfer picture from old iPod to my computer

how can i transfer picture from old iPod to my computer

Are these pictures on your iPod no longer stored on your PC or in a backup somewhere?  If so, you'll need the help of third party software to assist you with the task of extracting the photos from your iPod to your PC.  Keep in mind that these synced photos are no longer in their full resolution, but instead are scaled down thumbnails of the original.
If you stored these photos in full resolution, see this article for instructions on copying them from your iPod back to your PC.
Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Once the photos are on your PC again, you can configure them to sync to your iPhone.

  • How do I unlink my iPod from my old laptop and link it to new one without wiping all the tracks off it

How do I unlink my iPod from my old laptop (Vista) and link it to my new laptop (Windows 7) with deleting all the songs?

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Is there a way to move my library from old ipod to new ipod if i do not have my old hard drive

I have an issue on my old ipod with the sound coming through headphones...after troubleshooting found something is wrong with my old ipod (from like 2006) and i just bought a brand new one and want to be able to move my songs from my old ipod to my new one in windows platform environment.  The issue is I don't have my original hard drive with the Itunes library on it on which I originally purchased my songs.  Is there a way at all to download my songs from my old ipod to my new computer's hard drive and then move them from that hard drive to the new ipod?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am a novice at this so please be user friendly and not a lot of computer jargon please if possible...if you can outline steps that would be great.
    Michelle

    Hello goldymich
You can only transfer items that you have purchased from the iTunes Store. The article below will give the steps on how to do that.
