Is it ok to download free fonts?

My client wants me to use a specific font that I don't have - he wont pay for it as it's available free. The font is Effloresce
I'm worried about downloading any free stuff - can anyone recommend a safe site I could get it from? I'll be looking at a Postscript Type one version I think (Mac OSX)

You can get it here: http://www.dafont.com/effloresce.font, it's free for commercial use. I think it will be a truetype font (not sure why you would need a type 1 font, they are pretty much dead these days, opentype replacing them.

Go to the little magnifying glass at the upper right of your screen, click and type in Pages. It will likely show up under top hit, and also under applications. Click on it. When Pages is running the icon will appear in your doc again. Control-click on the icon, choose options from the pop-up menu and choose Keep in Dock.
Now your Pages icon should be permanently back in the dock for you.

Free fonts issues

I want to become a professional type designer. I am already in the game bhu I don't want to download free fonts from the internet and I don't have money to buy fonts either... Pls any help?

Its a late 2013 and I have just uploaded the new os version. They are calling me tomorrow to get to the bottom of the problem I hope!

Download of a free font contaminated my google interface

I've downloaded a free font 2 days ago ("metallica font") on a free font website. I've done this hundreds of times but this ones has affected my GOOGLE interface. Everything on google is now in "METALLICA"...unreadable...I've tried many things, nothing works...help!!!

The font type of Safari changed after dowloading and installing a free font (Bad Blockead)

Yesterday I downloaded a free font from the internet called 'Bad Blockead' for personal use.
Then I installed it and when I opened Safari later, everything I tried to search in Google was written in that font! I opened google chrome as well but it has the same issue.
This font is in all the research bar, the results and everywhere in my browser.
PLEASE help me

Uninstall it... simple. Drag the application into the trash. Don’t download any unnecessary junk from now on. You don’t need it. Simple.

What to look for in free fonts?

I want to download some free fonts (I am a student) to use for some 300ppi print pieces and am wondering what to look for in a free font to determine whether it will print nicely at a high quality. What makes a good quality font? I know there is lots of garbage out there though there are also many good quality free fonts.

Free Fonts and Malware

I have downloaded several free fonts from dafont.com and I was curious, is it possible to get a virus or malware from a font file? If it is possible, how likely is it? These are .tff files just to let you know.

Well, you can end up getting malware by downloading almost anything. Next time you want to download something, check it out with WOT, Web of Trust, which is a Firefox Add-on; maybe Safari now, as well.

There's also Google Safe Browsing Diagnostic. Put the following in the URL bar and the name of the site after the =

Also, next time, just google around for dafont.com, or whatever, to see what's being said about it.
That said, however, some free, badly designed fonts may end up causing problems other than malware.

Where did my free font go?

When I upgraded to PS CS4, as is the usual case in upgrading PS, there are some Adobe offers including a free font. I selected the free font and it went through the downloading process but did not give me a location to save it -- and it was so quick that I had to download it several times to read that it was saving it to a temporary folder. I checked my temp folders as well as did a search by the name of the zip file and NOTHING.
Could somebody clue me in as to where my free font is placed when it is downloaded since I did not have a choice of location as is the usual case when downloading a plugin or program or ...

That would be hard to guess where it saved at. I would download it again as it should download to the same temp file. If the file is already there and you attempt to download it again the download will prompt you and ask you if you wish to over right the other download. That window will tell you where the file is at.

Download, extract the files. From control panel, open the fonts folder and drag the new font file into the folder. It should then be available for use.

You don't need to reinstall Safari. You just need to find out what is installed.
I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be installed and running hidden in the background. Download EtreCheck from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck, run it, and paste the results here. EtreCheck is perfectly safe to run, does not ask for your password to install, and is signed with my Apple Developer ID.
If you have inadvertently installed adware, EtreCheck should flag it and give you "[Remove]" links where you can download AdwareMedic to remove the adware.

As for free iDVD themes, there are not 150 free themes. The only reference I could find online was on Wikipedia, which allows anyone to make changes, (like me) and message boards with people talking about 150 free themes, several of which cite Wikipedia as a source.
I fixed the Wikipedia reference, it now states there are "many."
The themes are quite customizable; you can drag and drop pictures to replace backgrounds, change fonts, insert text, change music, all sorts of things. Look at the bare bones of a theme: how do the drop zones move, and what kind of special effects are built in. Just about everything else can be changed. That will give you infinite themes.

Downloaded some fonts (otf/ttf), but they won't delete once in the TB?

I got my 15" macbook pro with 8GB of RAM just two days ago, and am loving it!
I'm a photoshop-type person, so I naturally decided to download some fonts. They were either in the .oft (opentype) or .ttf (truetype) format, both of which are acceptable. They went into the downloads stack; each one, I clicked on and then Fonts Book opened to install it. I installed the fonts and then once they were installed, I deleted the files from the Downloads stack. When they were in my trash bin, I went to delete them but it said they were already in use...?
Should I just move the files from the Downloads stack to a new folder specifically for downloaded fonts, somewhere else on the macbook's drive? From what I've tried, it's not possible to delete them.

As for free downloads to play with: unfortunately, the FontDiner ones are all commercial and thus not free...
They do have some free fonts. At the bottom of the first page (after the lead in page), click the "Free Silverware" link at the bottom. The fonts that come up on that page are all free.
I downloaded four of those fonts at random. All work as expected. That doesn't prove though that the Holiday Ranch font doesn't have something wrong with it.
Kurt, as I noted above, I already did empty all font cache files and restart. Unfortunately, that did not fix the problem.

So I think the problem is not that there's anything wrong with my OS, but rather that the person who made the font simply goofed when giving it a name!
It seems to point that way, but you're seeing the issue across fonts from different vendors. I would believe it's either the OS, or Font Book itself.
Your tagline shows you're running 10.6.4. Download and reinstall the 10.6.4 Combo updater. It's surprising how many problems go away when applying the combos.

okay so i used a visa gift card i had gotten as a payment method to use to download music on itunes and then finally it ran out of money. then later when i tried to download an app it said "sign in required" so i signed in then it said my payment method isnt working but i have no other meathod and i cant cancel the one i have so i tried again and it keeps saying the same thing.. it wont let me download anything.. what do i do?

You probably have a past due balance in the iTunes store. If so, you'll have to enter a new payment type, or use an iTunes gift card to resolve the outstanding balance before you can proceed to download free apps, or install app updates.

Is the address on your iTunes account exactly the same (format and spacing etc) as on your credit card bill ? If it's not then that might be the reason that you are getting the security code error : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1646 ? If it is then you could try what it says at the bottom of that page :
If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.
And/or try contacting iTunes support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Express Lane, then iTunes > iTunes Store
