Is it okay to delete old updates of itunes?

Just cleaning my machine and was wondering if it was possible to delete the old updates in add/remove programs. I have the 11/17/05, 1/10/06, 6/28/06 and the latest version 8/6/06. Is it okay to delete the previous versions?

Those are not iTunes.
Those are the iPod Updaters to update the Firmware on the iPod.
If your is working fine, you can delete them.
However, you should keep the latest version yours has.

  • Software Update Server - Deleting old updates to make space for new ones

On Page 77 of the SystemImage_and_SW_Updatev10.4.pdf Apple recommends "deleting old updates to make space for new ones". I've looked and searched and yet to find a way to do this. The Server Admin interface and the command line options I've looked into don't appear to provide this option.
So I actually tried stopping the server, moving the updates from /usr/share/swupd/html to another location, starting the server, the server wouldn't start, moving the files back again, the server still won't start.
    1. Does anyone know how you're supposed to "Delete old updates to make space for new ones"
    2. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get Software Update service running again?

  • Can't delete old version of itunes for xp

When downloading the updated version of itunes, the installations stops and windows installer pops up. How can I locate itunes.msi. unable to to delete the old version of itunes.

These sorts of msi-related troubles have gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly this time?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Can't delete old podcasts on Itunes 11.  Anyone have a fix?

Help!!!   I don't know what I was thinking about but I mindlessly updated my Itunes to the new Itunes 11 and HATE IT!!!!
My podcasts don't load correctly.  I have to choose each one individually to update whereas in the old Itunes I could just hit the refresh button and they would update.  And worse, I can't get rid of the ones I have already heard.
I have been reading some of the "fixes" but they are above my technical skill level.   Does anyone have a simple fix for the problems with podcasts?
Apple tech guys, please STOP mucking around with things that are working just fine and screwing them up.    You are making me go closer to dumping my Apple stuff and go back to Dell.

Since it´s a new phone, could have younger firmware problems. Do a bachup and a reset, should work, nut it´s an hard solution, but I don´t remember any more soft.

  • Can I delete old updates

I'm trying to clean up my computer. have J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates 10, 11, 4, and 6; Have Java (TM) 6 UPdate 2 and UPdate 3 and Java (TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 UPdate 1 all using very much memory...can I delete any of these?

You can uninstall any version that you do not need without any impact on remaining versions. Note that you may have a "JRE" and a "JDK" with the same version. They are not duplicates, as the purpose of each is different.

  • Need to delete old updates to free up HD space

I was wondering if there is a way to delete all outdated software updates without deleting vital information. Whenever the system automatically updates, those updates are usually very large files (>50 MB). I just got my iBook last year and my HD is really filling up. I'm getting an external HD for my iTunes and song library, but is there any way I can delete some of those oudated updates? And is this safe?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After installing an update, the updated components mostly replace other files; it will not take up the 50MB download specified in the Software Update listing, and cannot be easily removed. You can delete items you don't need in the /Library/Packages/ and /Library/Printers/ folders safely.
One exception to the above information on updates is that the iPod updaters create files in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder; these updates do not replace other files for the most part, and the applications can be easily removed, as well as the accompanying receipts in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. You should only delete an item in the /Library/Receipts/ folder if you are about to delete or reinstall the associated software, or have already deleted it.

    Hi bickyk,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below explains how to delete apps from your Mac, iPhone or iPad.  On your Mac, you should be able to click on the app to select it, and then press Delete on your keyboard.
If for some reason you are not able to delete the app from your computer, you can hide it instead.  Click on the link below for complete details.  I've highlighted the key points for you.
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5772
You can delete items that you bought from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store from your iOS device, Mac, or PC. Because Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) plays content from the cloud, you don't need to delete items from your Apple TV.
Before you delete an item, make sure you can download it again. If you can't or need to pay to download it again, back up the item before you delete it.
After you delete an item, it might still be visible if you can download it again from iTunes in the Cloud. The Download  icon will appear next to these items. You can hide items available in iCloud and purchases from the Mac App Store.
    Apps
Open the section below for the device you're using.
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Tap and hold the app you want to delete.
The apps will begin to jiggle.
Tap the X on the app.
    Mac or PC
    Open iTunes.
From the Library pop-up menu, choose Apps.
Click the app you want to delete.
    Press Delete on your keyboard.
Hide and unhide purchases in the Mac App Store - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4928
    Hide your purchases
If you hide an item you purchased in the Mac App Store, you won't get update notifications for it, and you won't see it on your Purchases page. If you're using Family Sharing, hidden items will also be hidden from your family members.
Use these steps on OS X Mountain Lion or later:
    Open the Mac App Store.
Choose Store > Sign In, then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
Right-click the item that you want to hide and choose Hide Purchase. A prompt will ask if you're sure that you want to hide the item.
Click the Hide Purchase button. The item will fade. The item below it, if there is one, will replace it in the list.
Use these steps on OS X Lion:
    Open the Mac App Store.
Choose Store > Sign In, then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Click Purchases.
Locate the item that you want to hide.
Click the X to the right of that item. The item will fade. The item below it, if there is one, will replace it in the list.
I hope this information helps ....

  • Deleting Old Versions of iTunes?

I have multiple versions of iTunes on my computer and I'm wondering if I can delete the older ones after installing the new updates. It seems to me that all they are doing is taking up space, but I don't want to delete them if it will cause problems with iTunes or my iPod. It may seem like a dumb question, but I just wanted to be sure.

I'm sorry, I'm a complete tool and forgot my password and all that stuff and didn't get around to making a new account until tonight.
But anyway, I guess what I mean is under my program files it has iTunes version 1.1, iTunes 1.2, iTunes 1.3, etc. (not the actual versions but hopefully you get the point) as well as iPod for Windows 2005-05-05, iPod for Windows 2005-10-10, iPod for Windows 2006-02-02, etc... I'm just wondering if I can delete the older versions without deleting all the files I actually have in iTunes/on my iPod.
Once again, sorry for being so dumb and not responding to my own question, but if anybody could help out that would be fantastic.

  • Deleting old files in iTunes

So I've transferred all my data from my old (now dead) PC to my new iMac. And in that collection of files was my iTunes library, which apparently didn't transfer in full.
I've reuploaded the files that didn't transfer, but now I have a ton of files that aren't complete/have no source (I've deleted them off my harddrive) showing up on my iTunes library and not only is it confusing, it's annoying. How do I delete them from the main library?
Also, this isn't on topic, but I seem to have forgotten how to log into this forum. I had another name, JoEsther, and although I did a password recovery, it wouldn't let me log in and kept sending me to the "new member/register" page. Does this matter?
