Is it okay to DMZ an Apple TV?

I have a second generation Apple TV connected to the internet. My question is it it okay to DMZ an Apple TV without any virus or worms issues to happen. I already open port something else and the modem is really far away to use ethernet cable. I just want to know if I will see an improvement to the speed or issues will come up?

ios devices does not allow for installing apps from other sources than app store in the case of ipod touch, iphone and ipads
Apple TV not at all so virus and worms is not really something which can just flow into every device connected to the internet there needs to be a path and in the case of a computer there are tons
in the pcs there are tons but most devices there are non
even if there were virus and worms are not cross platform so even if one were to be able to install apps from a browser and the likes which could mean the Apple TV could be targeted than the malware would have to be written just for ios, windows or OS X or linux malware would not work
that being said if speed improvements were gained then there would be something seriously wrong with your network setup

  • Okay, so the new Apple update did not fix the issue that I have!

I still have to disconnect the network cable or wireless before I can connect my laptop to my iPhone. I was hoping the fix would address, but alas NO! Anyone know of a way to fix the issue that iTunes looks as the iPhone being connected as busy port already in use by the internet connection?

Okay, I'm desperate now. I've tried re-installing, reloading the driver, uninstalling almost all of my apps from my pc and laptop, followed every Apple technical help publication, and every work around published in these forums. I'm not alone and I am frankly tired of it. If an Apple rep suggested unplugging the Internet as the work around, then why can't they tell me how to fix it or what is causing the conflict in the app to think that my iPhone is a busy port. Why does iTunes see my iPhone and my Internet as competing things where the iPhone is not looked at when the Internet is connected. It seems that some developer should be able to figure this out. I'll ask again and try yet again, does anyone have a new work around to fix this? Has anyone figured out why iTunes sees my iPhone as unavailable because the Internet has taken the location where iTunes thinks it should be?

  • Okay I have an apple IPod touch 4g 8gb and it will not turn on or charge or even show that the ipod needs to be charged so I am wondering if my IPod needs to be sent in to be fixed or if I should get a new one or if there is a possible way to recover it??

This is the first time it shut off and would not charge what so ever. The battery was charging and then it went blank and now it has been blank for awhile is there any possible way that the ipod itself can be turned on or even show up the needs to charge screen I do believe that the battery has gone bad and would like to know if this would cost to be replaced sense its not within the one year warenty????
If it does cost me I would like to know how much and where could I get it replaced at or have it referbished??????

  • My Mac has recently been restored in an Apple Store. I'm wanting to backup my iPhone 4 so I can use that data on my new iPhone 5. Though as my apple ID and everything has been reset to Factory Settings, if I plug my iphone in, will it erase everything?

Okay, so I got Apple to restore my whole Mac operating system, and it obviously reset all my settings and computer to factory settings. As I now have an iPhone 5 and wanting to backup my iPhone 4, I can't do this as my Mac does not have any recorded backup's from before as they were deleted in the restoration. So i want to plug my iPhone 4 in to back it up. The main question is if I plug my iPhone 4 in, will it erase everything? and if so, how do i prevent this from happening as I have very important data on my iPhone 4 i can't lose.
    Thanks
    Georgia!

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

    Also
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.

  • Help with Apple Mail

Okay, I have my Apple Mail linked to my Yahoo account, and it's been that way since April with no problems until recently.
I moved into my college dorm on Saturday, and last night I realized that I've only been getting emails on my iPhone from Yahoo. What's more is that I can not send emails from my Apple Mail. And when I sent it from the Yahoo website, it took about ten minutes for it to get to my phone, and then it finally showed up on the Yahoo website after being read on my phone.
If anyone can help me with this, I'd be extremely greatful because I appreciate the convenience of the Apple Mail. If it's any help, my Yahoo account won't even access Outlook either.
I tried deactivating it on my iPhone, but it still wasn't popping up on the Apple Mail.
Here's what the side bar looks like (pictured below), and when I click the "!," it says
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Yahoo” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” on port 993 timed out.
And if I take all accounts online, I get this
There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “Yahoo” or try again.
The server returned the error: The connection to the server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” on port 993 timed out.
So if anyone can help me fix this, it'd be a huge relief and I really appreciate it. =)

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Apple TV V2: Some observations concerning the new software...

I recently updated my Apple TV (160 GB) to the V2 software without - on first sight - any obvious problem. I'm running iTunes 7.6 on an iMac G5 with my iTunes library (approx. 60 GB) completely on the internal HD. My iTunes library is synced to the Apple TV (-> Custom Sync with "Show only synced items on the Apple TV" checked) meaning I don't stream any content from this computer.
There is a second iMac G5 in the network (my girlfriend's iMac) which is configured to share its iTunes library with Apple TV meaning the shared content is streamed.
While getting familiar with the V2 software I made some (strange?) observations I would like to share in this forum:
    1) Apple TV V2 now is always visible in iTunes on the iMac providing the shared library; with the V1 software this happened only in iTunes on the iMac providing the synced library which - by the way - didn't change. Can anyone confirm this behaviour?
    2) In the Music Menu I don't see the entry "Music Videos" from the iTunes store. I'm living in Germany and I know Apple's knowledgebase article about missing entries reflecting the missing features of the local iTunes store. But the German iTunes store is selling Music Videos (but no movies, TV shows, and movie rentals). All other entries valid for the German iTunes store are correctly visible. Could any German Apple TV V2 user please confirm that "Music -> Music Videos" is missing in Germany in spite of the German iTunes store selling Music Videos?
    3) Empty static playlists don't show up on Apple TV V2 after a successful sync, but they show up on the Apple TV device in iTunes if you open it by clicking the little arrow in front of it to inspect the synced content from there. This means the sync is okay but somehow the Apple TV V2 GUI doesn't show them. I know empty static playlists don't make much sense, but I noticed this behaviour and I would like to know if someone can confirm it.
    4) Empty dynamic playlists only show up on Apple TV V2 after a successful sync if iTunes on the iMac with the synced library is running! Please note: as stated above I have "Show only synced items on the Apple TV" checked. There should be no dynamic behaviour concerning the shown content of the synced library. Again: can someone confirm this behaviour?
    5) The "Recently Added" playlist is always visible on Apple TV V2. This playlist is not synced, but it is visible on Apple TV V2 regardless of iTunes running on the iMac with the synced library or not. Remember: as stated above I have "Show only synced items on the Apple TV" checked and this playlist is not and was never synced. I tried to toggle the sync state of this playlist several times followed by successfull syncs, but whatever I do: "Recently Added" remains visible on the Apple TV V2; all other playlists don't show this "feature". Can anybody confirm this behaviour?
    6) Internet radio stations are not working at all for me in a synced playlist. I followed the threads with this topic and came to the conclusion that we now can put internet radios stations from iTunes in a playlist, sync this playlist to Apple TV V2 and - as long as iTunes is running on the iMac with the synced library - the radio stations will be visible, selectable and playable on Apple TV V2. This does not work for me: as long as iTunes with the synced library is running I can see the playlist on Apple TV 2, but it is empty meaning the internet radio stations are not visible. I made sure that the radio stations are checked in the synced iTunes library, but no success: just an empty playlist on Apple TV V2 which completely disappears as soon as I quit iTunes on the iMac with the synced library. Anybody suffering from this behaviour, too?
    7) If I open the Apple TV V2 device in iTunes on the iMac with the synced library by clicking the little arrow in front of it (just to inspect its contents), I find that some playlists on Apple TV V2 show items which definitly don't belong to them. Interestingly these "wrong items" are only shown in iTunes; they don't show up directly on Apple TV V2 on the TV screen. Can anybody confirm this behaviour?
All in all I see my "smooth" upgrade to the V2 software now in a completely different light. I fear my "perfect sync" pre to the V2 update is somehow broken...
Or is this all expected behaviour?
    Any comment is appreciated.
    Thank you, Michael.

Hi Mike...for your question #3, I found a couple discussion threads about this issue which appears to be 'possibly' either a software glitch or Apple's way of discouraging people from listening to free music and forced to purchase music.
Anyhow here are the two discussion threads:

  • Understanding DMZ ACLs

I understand ACLs to work in this way on an ASA:
If the traffic DESTINATION is a host on the subnet where the ACL exists, it's considered INCOMING.  For example, if I want to allow my hosts on the inside to access the internet, since traffic sourced by my host destined for the outside is an outbound flow (high -> low zone) there is no need for an ACL.  However, the return is low -> high and does require an ACL.  Since the destination is a host on the inside, I create an INBOUND rule on the INSIDE interface.  Because the INSIDE interface is the highest security zone, the majority of the rules regarding the INSIDE interface are incoming.  We could write outgoing rules if we want to block zombies from sending spam, etc.  Now I'm putting in a DMZ, and I want my DMZ machine to access the DNS servers on the inside.  So I wrote a rule that says 'permit object-group TCPUDP 192.168.50.0 255.255.255.0 object-group Internal_DNS_Servers eq domain'.  This is an incoming rule from the DMZ to the INSIDE interface permitting a flow from a lower zone (DMZ is 50) to a higher zone (INSIDE is 100).  This correlates with what I believe to be the appropriate usage of ACLs in that the DESTINATION is on the INSIDE interface, so I wrote the rule there to accept it.  I also understand that I need to write a similar rule on the DMZ interface to allow the outgoing request towards the INSIDE interface because INSIDE is a higer security zone.  Here's what I DON'T UNDERSTAND:
    The firewall log says this:
    4
    Feb 01 2012
    13:29:55
    106023
    192.168.50.2
    51276
    OSI-SUPPORT
    53
    Deny udp src DMZ-1:192.168.50.2/51276 dst Inside:OSI-SUPPORT/53 by access-group "DMZ-1_access_in" [0x0, 0x0]
Why would I need a rule that is DMZ-1_access_in (incoming, so the destination should be the DMZ) yet have the source be the DMZ and the destination be INSIDE?  If the firewall is telling me that the ACL blocking the traffic is the inbound/incoming rule, I'd expect the source to be my DNS servers on the INSIDE and the destination to be the DMZ host.  Also, why would such a rule be necessary when the return traffic is coming from a higher zone to a lower one?  Maybe I'm thinking of this in separate steps like a request for information and a response, when really I need to be thinking flows?  In any case, I'm confused.
    Regards,
    Scott

    Hello Scott,
Lets first explaining the directions of an Access-group on an interface ( in,out)
    INSIDE--------ASA--------Outside
On this scenario if a packet comming from the inside to the outside, if we want to restrict the traffic from the inside, we will need to apply the access list in witch direction?
Well we need to place ourselfs in the ASA inside interface, the packet will get IN the Inside interface and get OUT the outside interface. So we applied the access-group: in interface inside
Now lets do it from the outside to the inside, Again lets put ourselfs on the Outside interface of the ASA, we will need to open the interface to let the packets get IN from the outside to the inside, so again it would be. access-group in interface outside.
That being said, now lets talk about security levels and ACL's on the ASA.
From a Higher security level to a lower everything is allowed unless you want to restrict something.
From a lower security level to a higher you do need the ACL to allow the traffic.
On your case on the DMZ, you want to allow outbound traffic from the DMZ, okay so DMZ to inside.
So again put yourself into the ASA.
-When a user tries to connect to a inside host, the 1st packet will be received on the DMZ interface and that packet needs to get IN into that interface so the direction would be IN instead of outbound.
    Regards,
    Julio!!!!

  • Apple TV Netflix Streaming & Other errors

Okay So I got Apple TV for Christmas. But Ive been experiencing very frustrating and upsetting problems. The following problems are very CRITICAL.
    1. NETFLIX STREAMING
One of the featured abilities of Apple TV was Netflix Streaming. At first I loved using it, but then I started noticing problems. Half the time I played a netflix video... the video would pause and buffer every few seconds. Time after Time I have to deal with this. And its not my internet connection, because my PS3 can stream Netflix no problem. This is the MOST FRUSTRATING THING ABOUT APPLE TV. A Deal Breaker. I use my PS3 now for Netflix, because I refuse to watch a movie or tv show and have to deal with pausing every few seconds. It ruins watching the show. YOU NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP!
    2. Error Cannot Connect To Netflix
Why is it one of the flagship features of Netflix has such a terminal error. Every week or so I have to disconnect (only found out this solution by googling this problem on the net otherwise I would of never found out how to fix Netflix on Apple TV) Apple TV, wait 10 - 15 seconds, reconnect, wait for it to load, and hope I dont get that ' Cannot Connect to Netflix Error". People say it may be netflix but its not. Apple TV cant access Netflix but yet my PS3, iPad, and iPhone can. Apple Please fix this.
THESE 2 PROBLEMS NEED TO BE FIXED ASAP. THEY HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTH WITH NOT A PATCH TO FIX IT. I didnt get Google TV, Boxee, etc. because I wanted Apple TV. Please dont make me regret my choice.
And the following are secondary concerns:
    1. Please allow us to access our Youtube Subscriptions and Favorites faster on Apple TV.
Everytime I select Youtube to watch my subscriptions and favorites ... I have to go through menus to do so. Can they not pop up as soon as Select Youtube. My accounts already on there just let it pop up on the first menu.
    2. Apps. Please include apps for Apple TV.
Apps where we can access Hulu, do skype chats, allow for keyboard integration. Allow us to do more with it.
Apple please fix these errors otherwise I have to stop recommending Apple TV and become a Detractor of the product and its support.

    To Apple and Netflix,
I have recently purchased 2 Apple TV devices and a Roku XDS and subscribed to Netflix.
The problem I'm having, along with many others in the various forums, is that Netflix is accessed and "Suggestions" and "Previously Viewed" items show up but when I attempt to play a selected item I get a message on screen showing "error 112" and no streaming occurs.
The ATV refers customers to Netflix and Netflix refers customers back to Apple. Which of course isn't a fruitful solution.
Having no email contact for Netflix isn't helpful either. After contacting them on the phone they would not generate a ticket number and would not log my complaint as the system can't record referrals to Apple. They also do not have employee identifiers so you only get a first name of the service representative, I can only assume Netflix wants no record of customer complaints and wants to wear you down by waiting on the phone. Apple support is almost as daunting. You better have your serial number handy or you are going nowhere. So if you are at work and trying to contact support… Good luck.
    My equipment:
    Zoom DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
Charter HSI Plus 2Mbps Up / 20Mbps Down
2 ea. Apple TV 2nd gen
    1 ea. Roku XDS
As a veteran film and TV post production engineer in Burbank, CA, I am a methodical trouble shooter and well versed in negotiating software and hardware from diverse products. I quickly determine my internet connection is solid and bandwidth is adequate (typically between 20 to 30Mbps and in the later hours up to 75Mbps). I check that other streaming channels on that device are functioning properly such as "Radio" and "YouTube". I can stream Netflix from the Roku. I can even stream Netflix from my second Apple TV device. But the other Apple TV continues to exhibit the same symptom "error 112". I can usually get around the problem with a couple of hard reboots of the Apple TV, but not always. The problem is not confined to one ATV, either device may exhibit "error112".
I will also be posting this open letter on Amazon and Facebook and hope to post your response and solution as well.

  • IPod nano will not connect and the Apple logo screen stays up

    Hello,
Earlier today I shut my iPod nano off normally (by holding the pause/play button). Later, when I went to listen to it again, I found it wouldn't turn on. I tried resetting it, and I got the low-battery signal, so I plugged it in. The thing is, the Apple logo screen is illuminated and I cannot get it off that screen, and normally when I plug my iPod in, iTunes comes up. iTunes didn't come up and it says there is nothing plugged in. What should I do?
      Windows XP

    Okay.
If the Apple logo is not going away and the iPod won't get to the main menu (when not connected to the computer), try what those links suggest.
If your iPod does not get to the main menu or say Do Not Disconnect, it will not be recognized by the computer. You have to get the iPod to say Do Not Disconnect, show the main menu, or just get past the Apple logo before it will be recognized. The above links will help you get the iPod get past the Apple logo.
The iPod cannot be recognized by iTunes or the computer if it is stuck at the Apple logo.
Finally, don't connect the iPod while the iPod preferences in iTunes are open.

  • No synchronisation between MacBook Pro 15" Retina and Apple LED Thunderbolt Cinema Display 27"

If I start my Retina MacBook with connected Apple 27" Monitor via Thunderbolt, I can notice less a second a blue Screen on both devices and then both Displays become black, since I installed Mountain Lion (10.8.2); the time before (Lion 10.7), the synchronisation was ok and everything is okay with my 13"-Apple AirBook (Lion 10.7) also.
Now, when this happens and I  move down the Display of my 15" MacBook Retina, I can see everthing on the 27" monitor. With an extern mouse, I can work quite well (without the MacBook-keyboard, because the Display is closed). I didn't try an extern keyboard till now. I only can move the pointer of the ext. mouse visible on both screens.
When I connect a further monitor via HDMI to my MacBook Retina, everthing is okay and I can watch 3 Displays !!!
When I turn off (the third still HDMI-connected Monitor), I can continue working with 2 Displays - Mac Book and 27"-Apple monitor, everthing is ok.
If I disconnect the 27" Monitor, I can continue on the MacBook without a problem. If I connect the Apple-Monitor via Thunderbolt again, the Problem comes again.
Why I can't  find a synchronisation between my 15" MacBook Retina (Mountain Lion 10.8.2) and my Apple 27" Monitor (baught in August 2012)????

Here's an ebay search. The lowest completed listing prices are within 10% of Apple's... about what you can get with an educational discount anyway. After listing / final value fees and Paypal fees, at those prices sellers are losing money.

  • IPhone 4: Visual Voicemail asks to be 'set up now' after each reboot

    Hello everyone,
    Here is my recurring problem:
Every time I turn my iPhone 4 off and back on, the visual voicemail asks to be set up again (when I've done it over 10 times now!). I tried resetting the network settings, taking out the SIM, and even called my phone company. They said that the issue is from Apple and has nothing to do with cell phone reception or what not... They said they have gotten a lot of calls with this issue?
I am not sure if anyone else is having this problem...?
How do I fix this so I don't need to reset my voicemail everytime I reboot?!?!
    Thank you in advance.
    Message was edited by: bumblebumble

    The fix:
Okay, I spoke with Apple Customer Support, and this is the detailed fix for the constant visual voicemail re-set after rebooting the iPhone (4). A warning though, it's going to use up a lot of your time!
    1. Make sure that you've synched your iPhone, and have a computer back up (which includes all of your contacts, apps, email, photos, etc. - EVERYTHING.
    2. Reset your iPhone 4 back to the factory default (this erases EVERYTHING from your iPhone). This is the "Restore" option found on the "Summary" tab in iTunes when your iPhone 4 is selected.
    3. After step 2 is complete, when you are given the option to restore the iPhone either from a back-up, or start as a new iPhone, choose the new iPhone option (it's possible that your back-up has a "corruption" which lead to this problem).
    4. Re-synch, and re-add all of your apps, movies, books, and photos, etc. You will have to redo any folders that you may have made (pain!).
    5. You may have to update the phone's carrier settings (remember when you first got the phone?), by pressing a prompt on the phone if it tells you that a carrier update is available (download the update). The phone will also prompt you with the fact that it's now registered (with your carrier). This only takes a second (the shortest part of the whole process). Your visual voice mail should work. Your greeting may be set to "default", but if you choose "custom", your greeting should be there (push "play" to make sure). If not, then record a new one. My greeting was still there, and I didn't have to re-enter my password. All of my old messages were still there, too. Success!
    6. You'll have to re-enter your wi-fi password in order to re-enable wi-fi.
    7. You're done. It works. I've tested it, by restarting (re-booting) the iPhone 4 several times.
    8. Go to bed, because it's late!
    You're welcome!
    -Mark.

  • Garageband Update 4.1.2

Since this update, my GB is just weird. Menu items flash open and closed, project settings in GB window are very sluggish. New projects are mostly impossible, opening and working with previous version (4.1.1) same behavior. Opened GB in another user account, same behavior. Deleted Prefs and program for GB and reinstalled - same issues. Had to do a restore via Time Machine to previous GB version and all was well. Did another restore after the 4.1.2 update, problems returned. So, am now re-restoring to GB 4.1.1.
Anyone else finding 4.1.2 buggy like this? I will not update GB until I know it works! Any solutions to making 4.1.2 work?

The GB version numbers are probably incorrect - what I am trying to state is that the last patch or update or something between my Time Machine backups has interfered. Everything else has been the same on the machine. No new loops or programs for GB were downloaded. All other programs work fine! I do recall okaying a update from Apple in between the TM backups. Did not pay attention as to "what" the Apple update was concerning!
Sorry about the possible confusion with version numbers!

It give me " Invalid Login Credentials'.
I am due to upgrade tomorrow, but now have run into this problem!!
    Desperate

    Angela,
    That is not clear.
I recently created a new application (new) in the same workspace as my old application (old). Now you have exactly two applications in that workspace.
I have about 35 application express users. They are stored in uppercase.Okay.
The new appl (old) , ...What?
...login page will only accept the DB user login and Not the application users. What DB user did you create and why did you create it? Your application must be using a different authentication scheme that the one you intended. Check the current authentication scheme and set it to the Application Express scheme (make it current) or whichever scheme matches that used by the working application.
When I type it in uppercase, it revert it to lower case.I can't explain that unless you created a database user account using double quotes around the lower-case name.
I have no authentication schemes, uses all defaults. I created a DB user and 35 application users.Again, why did you create a DB user?
I am due to upgrade tomorrow, ...What is an upgrade?
What is your current database version and Application Express version?

  • Can't access any songs after reinstallation of iTunes

Not very good with computers or anything, so please be gentle.
I got stuck with the whole Version 5 bug and had to re-install my iTunes software in order to be able to use it. I got through that okay, but now I have another huge problem.
Every time I try to listen to one of the songs that I bought off at the music store before I had to reinstall iTunes, a message pops up saying that I'm not authorized to play that song on this computer (which seems impossible, as I downloaded the song on this computer in the first place, but you know, whatever). It tells me to log on in order to authorize the playing of the song and when I do, it redirects me to a screen in the Music Store that tells me to "please downoad version 5," which obviously I really do not want to do as that's what screwed up my iTunes in the first place. Then when I try to go back to the song to actually play it, thinking I must have authorized it by now, it tells me the song STILL isn't authorized.
I've tried this with more than one song and none of them work. I've also tried to use the music files I coped for back-up, just in case something went wrong during reinstallation, but those songs won't play either. I could redownload them all but that would be too much money for songs I already paid for in the first place.
Am I doing something wrong, or does Steve Jobs just hate me?
Pleeeeease help. I really, really want my music back. ;(\
Oh, and if it helps the problem any, my Ipod is a mini and my iTunes is version 4.6, I think. Not sure if that information is necessary but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
EDIT: Okay, I checked what Apple actually has to say about this whole authorization thing. IT says the problem is probably that I have too many computers authorized to play the song, but I know that absolutely cannot be the case, as I only use one computer with my iTunes.
Is there a way to check how many computer iTunes thinks the song is registered with? because maybe it thinks there's more then five when there's really only one.

You've probably already got things figured out by now, but since I just saw your post, and the same thing happened to me, I figured I'd tell you how I fixed it just in case. My instructions are kind of long, but I wrote them up for me this way in case it happens again.
    1.     If you just authorize again, like it asks you to do, you will probably use up 2 of the 5 authorizations that you’re allowed. (You’re only allowed to play your purchased music on 5 computers. If you get a 6th computer, you have to de-authorize one of the others. If you sell your computer, you should de-authorize it first while you still have access to it or you won’t be able to.)
    2.     Quit out of the error box, without authorizing.
    3.     Click on ‘Music Store’ in your Source column.
    4.     Click once on your account name; under the eye, to the right of ‘Account.’
    5.     A box comes up asking you to enter your password for your apple id.
    6.     Enter your password, then click on ‘View Account’.
    7.     The screen that comes up will tell you how many computers you currently have authorized to play your purchased music.
    8.     If it says: “Computer Authorizations: One machine is authorized to play music purchased with this account”, then something is wrong because it obviously isn’t letting your one machine play music.
    9.     So, you need to go ahead and de-authorize your machine and reauthorize it to keep it from using up 2 authorizations.
    10.     Click on ‘Advanced’ on the top menu bar of Itunes, and then ‘De-authorize Computer…’.
    11.     Make sure the top radio button is selected, next to De-authorize Computer for Music Store Account.
    12.     Click ‘OK’.
    13.     Then go back and repeat steps 3-7, to look again to see how many computers you have authorized. It should now say ‘0’.
    14.     Then, try to play one of your songs that was purchased. You can always click on the ‘Purchased Music’ link in the ‘Source’ column to find all of your purchased music.
    15.     The same box will come up asking you to authorize your machine. Go ahead and do it now because now it will only cause one computer to be authorized.
    16.     You only have to do this on one of your purchased songs. All the rest of the purchased music will work after that.
