Is it possible copy and paste indesign levels?

Is it possible copy and paste or drag and drop a complete indesign level (with a lots of elements in each page) in another documents with the same number of pages?

You could alt/opt click the layer. That will select everything. Then copy/paste to a new document making sure that paste remembers layers is enabled.

Copy and Paste InDesigne gives inserted graphic, not object!? Bug or "feature"?

When I copy and paste any object in Indesign (Vectorgraphics, Rectangle, Textarea, everything) it isn't pasted as another object, it's paster as an inserted Graphic. I use Creative Cloud, updating automatically. Is this a new "feature" or a bug? Copying and pasting an Object -> i want an object again (editable and with the same color etc) and not an inserted graphic. Can I change any settings for that or something? never had this problem before!
I would really appreciate your help as it's really uncomfortable in the workflow even though i could understand it would increase performance and reduce data volume.

I have problem like this with indesign cs6 and windows 7, when i copy and paste frames it paste as there is graphic inside with a content grabner, my work around is from windows start>all program >go to indesign and run as administrator. Hope this may help.

Copy and paste from word to InDesign - foreign characters

Hello,
I have a Word file using foreign typefaces, Chinese, Korean etc. I have the fonts on my machine because the word document shows them OK..but, if I try to copy and paste the text into InDesign, those characters either don't show at all, or you just get the pink color with the little gray squares...Does anyone out there have any tips for how to handle this type of situation.

Ooooh, okay. I retract my finger-waggling cautionary statement.
It could be one of a number of different things. I almost always place instead of copy/paste, but I don't have any difficulty copying & pasting complex script text of any sort in any of my various versions and platforms. I'd figure that there are two different possible routes - either there's something about the styling or clipboard that is doing this (meaning that it could be unpacked exactly the same way as any font drop, no complex-script knowledge necessary) or there's something about the non-Latin text itself that is causing the problem. Take a look at the clipboard settings (Edit -> Preferences -> Clipboard Handling) to see if changing those settings resolves the issue, by e.g. changing the settings to raw text.
If that doesn't work, I'd suggest posting a lot more detail. Platform, versions of Word and Indy, the particular fonts that are failing, a description of how styles are set up in the current Word and Indy docs, perhaps a sample of the Word and Indy docs zipped up and made available for testing (e.g. if I can successfully copy/paste into the doc when your user can't, then there's something wrong with the user's install), and so on. Without that kind of information, the best I can do is take random guesses.

Is this from within a document, or trying to paste external content, or both? Have you tried Replace Your Preferences ?

Is it possible to copy and paste a formula without changing the cell references?

I am trying to paste a formula to a cell adjacent to where it currently is but when I do, the cell references in it change. I am trying to get exactly the same formula in the cell (without re-typing it).

Individual cell references in formulas may have four distinct states: relative, absolute column, absolute row, or absolute column and row. These are set using the popup menu on the reference itself. Click on the reference in the formula and choose one of the four states from the popup menu.

Copying and pasting Arabic text in InDesign CS4 ME

We have an arabic document in pdf and word formats and we have InDesign CS4 ME and we are trying to copy and paste text from the pdf/word document but the font isn't transferring, there is nothing only boxes. We have turned on the arabic keyboard and that didnt help either. Working on a mac.
Can anyone help us? What is the solution?

Well, why should it. Unless you are typing Arabic, that won't do anything at all. Copy-and-paste is not typing.
If copy-and-paste does not copy the font along so you get the pinky squares in InDesign, it only means that your default InDesign font does not support those characters. Select your text and then choose another font -- one you are sure of contains Arabic.
If you still get pink squares, it's more likely the text in the PDF is not encoded properly, and in that case no-one can't help you -- but it ought to work directly from Word.

CS3 - Copy and Paste from InDesign to Illustrator NOT working

I am trying to copy and paste some graphical elements from InDesign to Illustrator. The Paste command is active in Illustrator, but when I evoke the command, nothing is pasted. What is wrong?

Apparently it is an issue with Leopard (and Illustrator)
Workarounds:
1) Export from InDesign as eps or PDF, or
2) Copy paste into Photoshop as a Smartobject, and then double click the layer to edit smart object (it will open in Illustrator)
I know, it's a pain.

I have a scenario and I hope someone can clarify:
I work on a Mac using Adobe Illustrator & Indesign CS4. Whenever I copy and paste/drag an image from illustrator to Indesign, that particular graphic is uneditable in InDesign, and that is ok. I want it like that for the clerk/typists to use in their InDesign files.
However, on a PC with Vista, when the graphic is copied and pasted/dragged from illustrator to indesign, that graphic becomes editable using the direct selection tool in InDesign. What I want to know is if there is way to turn this off on the PC version like on a mac?

Hi,
maybe the difference lies with the way Illustrator pastes the images.
Here with my trusty CS3 in the "File and clipboard preferences" (translated from the french) I have a choice of exporting the clipboard in PDF or AICB.
If I understand your message I would guess that the Mac exports as PDF and Vista exports as AICB.
A check of the preferences could help with that,

Na origem do seu problema podem estar várias causas. Nomeadamente:
O ficheiro (arquivo) que está a ler pode não ser texto, ou seja, pode ser texto transformado em imagem e exportado como PDF.
A aplicação de destino (onde está a tentar colar o texto copiado) pode não aceitar a colagem de texto formatado.
A aplicação que está a utilizar para abrir os ficheiros PDF pode não ser indicada para certo tipo de documentos. Experimente o iBooks, o Dropbox ou até mesmo o seu e-mail.
No caso de nenhuma destas causas estar na origem do seu problema, forneça, por favor, mais informações sobre a origem do ficheiro (descarga pelo Safari, Mail ou outro) bem como o destino (documento Pages, Keynote ou Numbers ou outra aplicação que não o iWork).

Copying and pasting is not usually a good idea. Try using the "place" command to place your external files or documents into InDesign. Nevertheless, you should be able to copy text from Word or other programs with no problem. How are you doing it exactly? Try to do it not only with keyboard shortcuts, but using the actual "copy" and "paste" menus on both programs.

Is it possible to copy and paste a review quiz from on book into another?

I have a number of quizzes in an ibook which I have been using as a sand box.
There are 10 questions in each quiz.
I have copied and pasted a lot of the material from the trial ibook into a new book.
I would like to copy and paste the quizzes from the first book into the new new ibook also.
Is this possible?

Its possible to make a duplicate of the quiz within an ibook, but I have tried CUT and PASTE but it does not work even though they are both colored black in the menu.
As CUT and PASTE are colored black, I thought that it might somehow be possible to copy them from one ibook to another.
I can copy the complete section containing the quiz from the first ibook to the second ibook. If I could then copy the review quiz to the appropriate section in the second ibook, and then delete the copied section, it might work.
However, it still will not copy and paste the review quiz, only make a duplicate next to the original quiz.

Look at the USB stick in Disk Utility and check whether it may be partitioned or have other software on it taking up space.

"Copy and Paste"-Event in Indesign

Hi everyone,
does anyone have an idea, if there is SOMEWHERE an event, which is fired upon "copy and paste"-ing one or multiple object in Indesign?

Okay, since no one seems to answer in this forum anymore and I hope to help someone else wo might look for this problem in the future, here is a solution:
Normally, all your events/eventlisteners have to target "a File or a JavaScript", which is pretty worthless, since we are in an ActionScript environment. The MIGHT be a fancy way to create a meaningfull workflow for this, but since all documentations, tutorials, cookbooks etc. on this have vanished into oblivion, here is what you should do.
- Check if the source of the Event is a child of CSHostObject. If not, you might have a problem
- Let´s pretend it is, then use the IDScriptingEventAdapter to catch your events. Here is an example which works for me to detect if a "Paste" happens
