Hello:
I would like to know if it is possible to configure an Airport Express so that it is connected to an ethernet port in a hotel room and have the express broadcast a wireless signal to my iPad?
This will be my configuration:
1. One airport express.
2. One iPad. I will not have a laptop at my disposal.
Here are my concerns:
1. I currently don't own an Airport Express, so I am not certain what kind of settings will need to be changed from default.
2. So when I plug the Express in the hotel room, will it be plug and play (meaning will express obtain ip address from hotel server and broadcast the wireless so my iPad will have Internet access)?
3. Will I still need to run the Airport Utility at the hotel?
4. Is there an Airport Utility app available for the iPad? If not, is it possible to reach the Airport Express setting via the Safari Browser (similar to many routers)?

Yes, that is possible.
1. I currently don't own an Airport Express, so I am not certain what kind of settings will need to be changed from default.
Most hotels, that provide an in-room Ethernet port for Internet access typically require that you use a web browser to reach the hotel's Internet service login page. This service provided by the hotel's Internet router ... and, in somewhat a similar manner, would be the same as a home setup where you used a wired router.
At home, you would connect the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to that wired router via an Ethernet cable. In turn, the AX would be configured to broadcast a wireless network. The basic AX configuration would be the same in both cases.
2. So when I plug the Express in the hotel room, will it be plug and play (meaning will express obtain ip address from hotel server and broadcast the wireless so my iPad will have Internet access)?
In the majority of situations ... yes.
3. Will I still need to run the Airport Utility at the hotel?
Only in those situations where the hotel's Internet access method is different would you need to use the AirPort Utility to reconfigure the AX.
4. Is there an Airport Utility app available for the iPad?
Sorry, not that I'm aware of ... at least, not yet.

Unfortunately, no. Access to administer the AX requires the AirPort Utility. There is no browser-based access for this.

Is there any kind of "universal" or "automatic" configuration you can set it up with?

Airport Express not broadcasting signal

My Airport Express has been used to extend an Airport Extreme network. This has been working for a few years without trouble.
Today I noticed my Airport Express was only recognizing my Airport Extreme. When looking at the Express setup screen under wireless clients it showed only 1 (the Airport Extreme). The Extreme shows several wireless clients.
I tried resetting the Express to its factory settings, but it doesn't want to do that either.

Did you try the default reset as follows:
Power down the Express for a few moments
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the Express back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly.
If you try this a few times without success, then I'm afraid that the Express has experienced an internal failure and it will need to be replaced.

Is it possible for 10.6.8 to sync mail with my ipad and iphone5?

I notice that all my mail is different from MacBook Air, iPad, and iPhone 5.
My iphone and ipad are on icloud. Even they don't sync. My ipad shows 55; my iphone shows 62, and my MacBook Air shows 66. So I can never trust that I have all my email unless I check all 3 devices.
The MacBook Air is still 10.6.8, and under system preferences, icloud of course is not listed -- it's still the obsolete mobile me.
My iPad does not have OS7 on it, because after putting it on iPhone 5, I have chosen not to update my iPad. I don't know what the version before OS7 was, but that is what is on my iPad. If I look under General > I see Version, so I'm assuming that is the version of OS on iPad, which shows 6.1.3.
I think that's all the info you need??? SO is there a way to sync all 3 so that my email is the same on all devices?
I did test a SYNC with my NOTES, from ipad and iphone, and they work fine.

Apple isn't placing draconian DRM or anything on Lion, just making the download through MAS. Which of course one as to register and pay for the download.

"Pro" users won't go for that anyway, they need to be able to install programs and such on location, without a Internet connection or where it's very slow.
Apple is just taking advantage of high bandwidth, but high bandwidth isn't everywhere and data caps are ever increasing everywhere we look.

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

In theory, yes. If you configure the two base station into either an extended or roaming network configuration, you should be able to walk a laptop between routers and the laptop should attempt to connect/reconnect to the base station providing the stronger signal ... but, in reality, this is not always 100% true.

FWIW. I have used up to four AirPort Express Base Stations (AX) for streaming sucessfully in pretty much the way you have described. I didn't have a need to try more so I can't attest that more would or would not work.

You are going to have to turn OFF Wifi on the Sky router device so its just a modem.
String an Ethernet cable off of the Sky router to an Apple Airport/Time Capsule device and have that create a stable WiFi network.
Using WDS protocols you can now add additional Apple Airport expresses as needs be to extend the Wifi signal area.
In theory you should able to extend an existing network however inter-operability between differing manufacturers is flaky at best.
Caveat using extenders Will degrade the performance of your network.
So its going to be more expensive - Need Two Airport devices and you my need support in creating the network (you may have to log in to the Sky provided routers advanced settings in the Java Control Panel and from a web browser to turn off features such as Wifi and IP addressing)
You may be better contacting Sky as they may actually have a compatible network extender (BT certainly do for their Home Broadband routers) available.

I'm having the same problem, even more:
- Watching movies over AppleTV: switches off every 20min (sleep mode).
- Listening to iTunes music ofer AirPlay: the same.
- A whole confusion with switching airplay destinations (AppleTV, AirportExpress) over iPhone remote app. Sometimes remote cannot find my library anymore
- Before, I was able to multitask: stream a DVD to AppleTV, using airplay mirroring, and simultaneously stream music from iTunes on the same computer, over the iTunes airplay selector, to loudspeakers connected to AirportExpress. No longer possible.
I've grown a big Apple fan in short time, proudly living what for others is the future (your media stored anyhwere, controlled from anywhere, played anywhere, stop thinking in terms of devices). And, I've learnt to savour the moments when you can look your Microsoft friends deep in the eyes and say: "The big difference with Apple - it just works"...
At the moment, I'm trying not to invite my friends.

Losing Express Speed and Signal

Hello,
I having been successfully using the Express base station to support a desktop and laptop simulaneously. However, I recently moved both computers to the same room. When both computers are on, my laptop is losing the strength of signal from Express until the signal is finally lost and my Airport icon at the top of my screen is grayed out. The desktop isn't affected.
Any ideas as to what is going on? I have cleared the history and caches in both browsers and I have a cable modem connetion.

There is a different between the srx200 and the plain srx from what I read. The one for larger homes and offices appears to be the srx NOT the srx200 which is only 2x farther range while the srx is 3x the range.
Does anyone know if the wireless g range expanders will work with these srx signals? I currently have a wireless adapter off of a router and then to an expander. It all works fine but would like to replace the router and access point to gain the speed but would also need to keep using the expanders if possible to reach some difficult spots

How can I set up AE so that I can just plug it in to an ethernet cable in a hotel room? I want to primarily use it as a wifi connection with my iPhone, so I would prefer to not have to adjust settings. Is this possible?

I'm going overseas for a week, have some time on my hands so will give it a go.
Well, the pdf guide that came with the Airport Express says you can. It's a matter of following the setup wizard....
There's no step by step screen shots, so you can only go by Apple's word that this does actually happen.

Solutions for displaying s-video signal on Macbook Pro? (2006 model)

I looking around for ways to display an s-video signal on my Macbook Pro, but i've no idea the best way to this.
I'm not really after capturing or recording the signal, but I just need a means that I can view the signal, and to be able to switch to another program running on the Macbook. (switch back and forth from Mac app to viewing s-video signal)
Ive seen a few products but they look overblown for what I really need to do like the Elgato video capture, and the xlr8 provideo usb devices.
Is there a way that I could use the DVI socket on the Macbook? I have seem its possible to display the Macbook signal on an external display using this socket, but can it be used to take an input signal?

Technical note of what I exactly need this for: I have an old Roland sampler which can be used with an external monitor to aid in its editing. The outputs on the sampler are s-video and digital RGB. So that I dont have to buy an old bulky monitor I want to use my Macbook display for this while I also am running Logic Pro 8 at the same time. And to switch from Logic, to the displayed signal from the sampler.

The DVI out on your MacBookPro cannot be used for input. In order to see the s-video signal on your MBP display you will need an analog-digital converter like the Canopus ADVC-55, plus you will need to run software. You may be able to use iChat A/V, although I haven't tried it for this purpose. It will cost you more than the Elgato eyeTV device, however.
You will find it much easier & cheaper if you just get an inexpensive LCD display to use with your Roland sampler.

If it is caused by a hardware problem there is nothing you can do to prevent it from recurring unless it was caused by abuse like from dropping the iPod.

Hi folks...here's hoping someone can help. I've searched high and low, but have not been able to find the answer.
I just got an Airport Express and successfully set it up to extend my existing network (from an Airport Extreme Base Station). However, it seems to be only extending the 2.4GHz signal. When I look at the set-up in Airport Utility, it seems that I would have to select either the 2.4GHz OR the 5GHz...it can't seem to broadcast both signals (unlike the Airport Extreme)

Yes. If you have the AirPort Express set to "extend a wireless network", it will extend either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band, but not both. The AirPort Express is dual band in a sense that it can handle 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz signals. But, it can't do this simultaneously.
The Express extends the band that it "sees" with the strongest signal, which will be the 2.4 GHz band in most cases because 5 GHz signals are weaker and do not penetrate obstructions or travel over distance as well as 2.4 GHz signals.
If you want to extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, you'll need another AirPort Express, or a simultaneous dual band AirPort Extreme would do the trick as well.

It is possible to change the Inhibit signal to active high (7344 controller)?

Normal the controller 7344 generate an Inhibit signal active low. We can receive this signal from the UMI 7764, and send it to the motor drive.
We have a Nanomotion drive type AB-5. For that type of drive the is the Enable signal that is active low. It is possible that this generate a problem of dialogue between the controller and the drive? I means that it is possible that a signal that the controller explicite like inhibit is interpretated by the drive like enable and vice versa. If it is true, how is possible to swap the inhibit signal to active high?

You can set the polarity of the inhibit signal in MAX. Select the Axis Settings of your 7344 settings. To the lower right hand side there are the options for the inhibit output polarity.
