Is it possible for me to fix my iPod Touch 4G?

I've had my iPod for months now and I never had any problems with it until today. I was texting from the iPod's messenger app like usual and it just started crashing. Every app that I opened crashed instantly. I tried texting again but everytime I tried to type, it would just crash. I tried to restart it but the problem got worse! It got stuck on the apple logo! It kept going from the logo to a black screen about 5 minutes straight. I tried holding both Power and home button to get it to stop and it worked. However, my iPod is stuck! Doesn't charge, doesn't turn on, doesn't get detected by any of my computers and I don't know whats going on. I've searched on Google and Youtube for help but nothing has worked for me at all. They tell me to go on iTunes but it just wont detect my iPod anymore! People keep telling me to put it in "DFU Mode" by pressing both Home and power buttons for a certain amount of seconds but it just wont do anything for me. It really seems hopeless. People are saying that my iPod is "bricked" which I really don't know what it means. I just heard of it today for the first time. The iPod is just stuck. Tried everything but nothing works. If there's anything I can do to fix this problem, please tell me. Would really appreciate it. By the way, I can't take it or send it back to an apple store or anything like that. I'm 16 and there are really no close apple stores where I live. No one wants to give me a ride to an apple store because its just too far. So just anything that I can do myself here, please tell me. How long will my iPod service take?
If you choose to use the Online Service Assistant, or service via Apple Technical Support: If your iPod is not personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately one week from the time you send your iPod to Apple. If your iPod is personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately ten calendar days from the time you send your iPod to Apple.

If it is caused by a hardware problem there is nothing you can do to prevent it from recurring unless it was caused by abuse like from dropping the iPod.
Otherwise make sure you ask apple how they fixed. it.
