Is it possible for me to use Bonjour?

I have multiple ethernet drops in my apartment provided by my complex. One is in my bedroom, and one is in the living room.
I have my iMac connected up in my bedroom, and a Graphite AirPort base station in my living room to provide wireless internet access for a few portable devices including my iBook G4.
I was hoping to use my iMac as a file server sort of thing to use with Bonjour. The problem is that, through Bonjour services like iTunes Library Sharing, I don't see my iMac's stuff on the wireless network via my iBook, and my iMac doesn't see my iBook's stuff.
I have noticed that I can access my iMacs files directly from Finder however, by heading to "Go > Connect to Server" in the Menubar, and typing the local IP address of my iMac.
So basically, there are two DHCP servers going on. One that provides an address to my iMac and AirPort Base Station, and the Base Station providing an address to my iBook.
so basically, my iBook's local address is something like 10.0.1.X, and my iMac's and Base Station's addresses are something like 172.20.95.X.
Anything I can do in the AirPort Admin or on my network to enable both of these machines, running Tiger to see each other with Bonjour?
Thanks!
Brian

Is your base station acting as a NAT router or a bridge?
From your description it sounds like it's running as a NAT router, where it has one IP address and it shares that address amongst other wireless clients, typically in a 10.1.x.x. subnet.
In bridge mode the base station simply links the wired and wireless networks on the same subnet.
You can toggle the base station settings by checking the 'Distribute IP Addresses' under the Network tab in AirPort Admin. If it's turned on the base station is running as a NAT router, if it's off, it's a bridge.

Basically I will be travelling quite a bit and my Macbook Pro has a Wireless 3G dongle. Is it possble to use this via the 'internet share' option so that the iPad can connect to the 3G wireless via the Macbook Pro?

    Yes. Just use internet sharing on your MacBook Pro.

  • Hi, is it possible for me to use my irish Iphone 4 in canada with a canadian bill paid sim card?

    Hi
    Is it possible for me to use my Irish I phone 4 in Canada? I would like to get a Canadian bill paid sim card / local no for one year!

    If your phone is officially unlocked, yes. Otherwise, no. So, contact your carrier BEFORE you leave to see if they offer unlocking & what the cost/procedure is. There is no other way to get an iPhone officially unlocked...only the carrier an iPhone is locked to can authorize such.

  • I have an iPhone 4 but there is no possibility for me to use FaceTime. Can't find it in my contacts also not in settings. Please help

    I have an IPhone 4. But I can't find the possibility to use facetime. It is not in my contacts and als not in the setting.

    Put youR pad in landscape, then touch settings.  In the left pane, a couple of items below general, is there an entry for face time?
    If not, there is something wrong with your iOS version.  You are marked as 5.01.  Is that correct?
    If it is there, and you cannot get it to work, that is different than if it is not there at all.  Which situation are you in?

  • Fail over possible for 9i db, using Veritas VCS bet 32bit and 64 bit

    Folks,
    We are planning to use 9i R2 (9.2.0.2.0) on
    Sun Solaris, using Veritas VCS .
    Can we have one OS as Solaris 32 bit and
    the fail over box as Solaris 64 bit.
    Thanks

    Follow up question -
    I am able to successfully fail over the ABAP portion of the ABAP+J2EE environment we have.  This is done by altering the profile parameters in the DEFAULT profile to reflect the cluster alias rather than the actual host name.
    But in the confitool of the J2EE, there are some fields that have the actual hostname hardcoded.  These are in the DB, so they are host independent:
    Global Disp. config>managers>ClusterManger:
    ms.host = <host>
    Global Disp. config>managers>LockingManger:
    enq.profile.filename = /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_DVEBMGS##_host
    enqu.host = <host>
    Global Server Config>managers>Cluster Manager:
    ms.host = <host>
    Global Server Config>managers>Locking Manager:
    enq.profile.filename = /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_DVEBMGS##_host
    enqu.host = <host>
    I suspect I can change the physical host names to the alias, but how can the J2EE know which profile to look at based on what physical host it's running on?  ABAP knows by just reading the profile that has the real host name in it.

  • HT5622 Is it possible for someone to use my details to access my iMessage and FaceTime without my permission? If so, how do I prevent this?

    I have recently given my old iPhone 4s away as I now have an iPhone 5s.
    I reset and erased the old phone but I'm still cautious as to whether or not my information for iMessage and FaceTime can be accessed without my permission.
    Please advise.
    Luke.

    If you did Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings on your old iPhone before disposing of it (as you should have), then your old iPhone will not allow anyone else to access FaceTime or iMessage from your account -- unless the new person knows your Apple ID and password.

  • Is it possible for to make the duplicate windows stay up?

    Right now, i am workin on my ultimate workspace for photoshop, but I have one more interest. I wanted to see if it was possible for me to use the window>Arrage>new window for feature and have it save as a permanent dock for my photoshop workspace. That way, when I open up a image on photoshop, I don't have to worry about going to window on my application bar and starting this feature. If there is a way, can you give me some infomation in detail?
    Thanks in advance!

    I’m not sure I even understand what your intention is.
    Do you always want more than one window per open document?
    That might be possible to do with Script Events Manager (with a Scipt or Action) but I see no connection to a Workspace.

  • Using Bonjour for video chat to windows computer

    I'm wondering if it is possible to use Bonjour to do video chats accross the network from a mac to windows xp pc. Thanks in advance for any help or answers.

    Sure can. You would need to have Bonjour installed on the Windows PC, along with a chat client.
    Here's Bonjour for Windows: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows103.html
    Don't forget to adjust the windows firewall settings: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301514
    And here is a 3rd party chat client for windows: http://xurble.org/projects/iChatMiranda or you can use Trillian http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/
    I hope this helps!
    OOOPs. I just saw that you were asking for video chats, unfortunatly, there is no client that I'm aware of that supports Bonjour Video on the PC...sorry!

  • Software update for unmanaged clients via Bonjour?? Possible?

    Is it possible to update using update server an unmanaged computer on a different sub domain using Bonjour or something else?
    I am using the following terminal command and have changed the http:// to my server and I have tried its IP address.
    defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://su.domain_name.com:8088/index.sucatalog
    I also have the following services running: AFP, DHCP, DNS, NetBoot, NFS, OD, SMB, Software Update, Web (although not sure if they are configured correctly.)
    I have two networks. One is for Admin and one for students. The Admin (running Active Directory) has fixed IP Address starting 192.168.1.XXX and the student one (OS X Server) has 192.168.200.XXX (Assigned by the server automatically.)
    Many many thanks.

    I would make having a DNS server (or two, for reliability) operational for the specified DNS zones (domains) as part of the plans for deployment on, like, tomorrow.   One of the few things that would be ahead of that DNS server deployment would be the plans to get Mac OS X Server to a static address.
    Not having stable and valid DNS services on the network means your network can and variously will be wonky, and you can't use ISP DNS on your private LAN.
    I will assume that "students.net" and "teachers.net" are bogus domain names.  (It's more clear if you use one of the officially-bogus domain names here, example.org, example.com and example.net.)  If they're not bogus domains and you're really using those names, then you don't have those domains registered, and you'll want to set up registered domains or subdomains of your school network domain name; whatever the school has registered.
    If you're the person running the whole school network here (and don't have a registered domain name), then go register a real domain for your school - we'll call it the example school, and will register example.com, and you can then use the subdomains staff.example.org and student.example.org, and have these be assigned to your two different networks.  Hosts can then be somehost.staff.example.org or anotherhost.student.example.org, for instance.  Don't understand DNS services?  Please read this.
    Given you're probably going to need VPNs at some point, I'd also get your internal network out of 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, and over into a subnet somewhere in the private 172.16.0.0/12 or 10.0.0.0/8 blocks.  This because VPNs don't like having the same subnet on both ends of the connection, and most home and coffee shop networks on the planet will use the 192.168.0.0/24  or 192.168.1.0/24  subnets within 192.168.0.0/16 block.  And this messes up VPN routing.
    If the sudo changeip -checkhostname command failed with an error when executed on the Mac OS X Server box (Server, and not Mac OS X client), then check the command syntax.

  • I share a an apple id with my kids. We all use the same credit card for purchases.  Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids?

    My kids and I all use the same credit card and password for app and music purchases.   I'm assuming we all use the same apple ID too. (not sure) We can share apps and music although we all have our own itunes libraries. Is it possible for only me to use the icloud online storage without making this available or visible to the kids or do we all have our own storage?

    I just checked and they have already sucked up all my online storage.  Ahhh techy teens!  I think I will just leave it at that and back my own stuff up on my computer. Less confusing
    Thanks for all the help!  I am definitely more educated now and I'm off to check that cc bill too.

  • What are the general effects of using recovery mode, and is it possible for one's data to be backed up on to it afterwards?

    My iPad, in my opinion is a great device to have whenever I need to use it for work - mainly using it for creating music.  However I feel that it's a bit outdated, and I plan to get a new iPad Air for this holiday season and give this one to my children.  That being said, I have stumbled across a weird problem that keeps me from backing my iPad (generation 2) up to my computer.  The error in question states that "The iPad is currently owned by another computer."  By looking around on the internet, I was able to deduce that one of the ways to solve this problem was to put it in recovery mode to get rid of the 'ownership', and this seems logistical.  The problem I'm facing now, is that, after trying to find the answer, I do not know how recovery mode has an impact on all the data stored on my iPad.  To clarify the question into three parts:
    1)  Is there a way to back up files from my iPad and easily retrieve them without the use of iTunes?
    2)  If not, is there a way to get rid of the 'ownership' of another computer other than recovery mode WITHOUT jailbreaking it?
    3)  If still no, then what are the effects of putting my iPad into recovery mode, and will all of my songs and data be safe?
    Thank you for answering, if possible.

    Was the iPad originally set up on a different computer, and hasn't been synced to the one that you are now trying to use ? There are some instructions on this page for syncing to a new computer : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141
    (Before trying that you could copy any important files/documents off the iPad so that you have you own backup copy of them e.g. depending upon what the apps support then email them to yourself, use Dropbox, copy them to your computer via your wifi-network.)
    You should be able to copy iTunes purchases off the iPad and over to that computer's iTunes via File > Devices  Transfer Purchases, but if you have music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs) which aren't in that computer's iTunes (and you haven't got a backup to copy them onto it from) then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which should be able to copy them back : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
    For recovery mode, that will result in your iPad being put back to factory defaults i.e. all of your content will be removed from it
