Is it possible for my ipod to harbor a virus?

I understand that it cannot actually get a virus itself, but when I decided to sync the ipod to my PC  and finally update it (still at 4.2 :( ) , an icon appeared onto the taskbar saying dowload complete.  I looked at it, it told me it was itunes but it was not published by apple.  It described the download as a secure browser to go on certain websites or something like that... But anyways is it possible that my ipod transfered a virus to my computer.
I've also heard to factory reset it, but, I can't without plugging it back in.

Okay what you said about the permision part reminded me of accidentally clicking on an ad, and my blue notification screen came up (all notifications are off so it wasnt a message) and said something but since I was already tapping the screen to go somewhere else before the page loaded up, but because of that I hit one of its buttons and it went away without me reading it.  Would it still prevent it from storing things onto my ipod?
Sorry I don't mean to sound stupid I'm just not tech savvy.

Is it possible for a iPod touch to get a virus when downloading free games off the internet? If yes, is there an antivirus program to protect the ipod. and can some of the current apps be saved from the virus damage?

I had one game permanently just stop working, it usually does crash, but that last time it just went bad, I don't know the reason, I tried powering off iPod, relaunching game, but the game never worked again. I think it corrupted its own save file or some of its own data.
Have you tried another game or app, do those work? If they do, then I guess you know where the problem lies, but if they all stop working, then what about apps, can apps launch?
Lastly, apps from the app store are checked by Apple, so they are clean.

  • Is it possible for your ipod just to stop working and lose all your music

I lost all my music and my itunes isnt reading that my ipod is hooked up to the computer

The answer to that is yes... Having the data on the device alone is a recipe for disappointment.

  • Is it possible for the Ipod 4th Generation to get IOS 7?

    Hello all,
I was just going to ask is it possible for 4th generation Ipod Touch's to get IOS7? as many of the new iphones and ipod nano's have accessed this new software except this version of the Ipod.
Please get back to me as soon as possible,
    thank you,
    From Amy

    No.
As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod. Not enough RAM
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • Is it possible for 2 ipods to use same computer?

I have had a iPod for 2 years now. any my brother may be getting a iPod for Christmas, is it possible for both of us to use the same iTunes software? i don't think this is possible so what can i do. My mum say this is a family computer, and there is no chance of getting another one.

As above, the Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of different ways. I use method two although I have a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which of my family likes which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Playlist is Music" + "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Playlist is Music" + "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
This way each of us gets a different selection of content to suit our tastes and the capacity of our iDevices. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.

  • HT4623 Is it possible for my iPod touch to be too old to update?

I have an iPod touch, it is pretty old. I want to update it so I can get the benefits of it.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

  • Is it possible for an iPod to "die?"

i've tried everything to resurrect my 4th gen 20 gb U2 iPod. is it possible that it is "dead" and irrepairable??? see my other posts...

Your iPod is 6 years old.
It would cost you $249 to get it "serviced".
Apple simply replaces iPods with a refurbished iPod of the same model and size.
A brand new 30GB video iPod is $249.
    A refurbished 30GB video iPod is $199.
    Do the math.

  • Is it possible for one iPod to be registered to two people?

So far I have had two iPods stolen from me and sadly never realized that I registered them with Apple until now. I was wondering if the people walking around with my iPods are able to do anything like purchase things off if the iTunes store or even put them in their names.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
People can restore the device to factory settings, and put their Apple IDs to purchase things with them and use their information, deleting everything you had stored.
If you didn't register your iPods with your Apple ID, they can do it just knowing the serial number of the iPod in http://supportprofile.apple.com

  • Is It Possible For An iPhone To Get A Virus?

I'm just curious about this, i'm sure many people are too. Is it possible? I personally don't think so since Apple has such tight security. Example: Most, if not all apps (i'm not sure on this) can only be downloaded through the App Store, which Apple has to approve of first. You can't just go to a website and download anything on your phone, eliminating virus risk from web browsing. And email is on your phone, so that wouldn't be easy to hack. Not to mention countless firewalls. So is it possible? I've never heard of it. (this being for non-jailbroken devices which (jailbreaking) may not me discussed)

    No, iPhones/iPads can't get viruses.

  • Is it possible for an iphone to get a virus from the computer?

let's say a computer has a virus and you connected your iphone to that computer. is it possible that the virus will transfer/replicate from the computer to the iphone?

You will get a lot of no answers to this.
With that said, I will say no too, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. As time has taught everyone, no device (computer, phone, etc) is safe. Currently as designed there isn't any way for one to infect the phone from just plugging in the phone by the nature of how it all works, however, that doesn't mean one day somebody can find some flaw and release one. Just currently there is nothing. You are more likely to get something from just browsing the web on the phone or being on somebody's wifi network and them exploiting some other security flaw.
While all known flaws are patched (if you are up to date) that doesn't mean another one won't be found.

  • Is it possible for my iPad to get a virus

I had a pop-up say I had 4 virus'  is that possible? Or would it have just been a link to get me somewhere else????

It's a well known scam to get you to download junk software or at worst actual malware.
    Ignore it.

  • Is it possible for an ipad to get a virus, or be hacked?

My email doesn't load anymore unless I reboot my ipad.  Also, when I went into some accounts to pay bills, I was getting information that wasn't mine, or not getting "continue" buttons and such.  The pages weren't loading correctly.  Things worked fine on my husband's ipad.  Any advise would be welcome.  Maybe have it reset back to factory settings, or wiped?  Who do I see for this?

Only if you jailbreak can you get a virus or malware.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Is it possible for the ipad to get a virus/malware?

You don't need antivirus as long as you don't Jailbreak your iPad.
Currently there's no known virus affecting iPad.

  • How can I uncheck "Enable disk use" in iTunes for my iPod? The option is grayed out, and permanently checked.

When I plug in my iPod Nano (6th generation) and launch iTunes, the device appears in the sidebar as normal, but the option to check or uncheck "Enable Disk use" in the Summary pane for the iPod is grayed out. Currently, the box is checked, so "Enable disk use " is turned on -- but what I want to do is UNcheck it and turn it off.
But nothing I've tried so far has successfully ungrayed the "Enable disk use" box. Help!
Question: How can I ungrey the "Enable disk use" option in my iPod's Summary panel in iTunes, allowing me to uncheck it?
Alternately, is there any other way to turn off "Enable disk use," using some esoteric workaround? Thanks!

Set it to sync automatically. Disabling that option isn't possible for an iPod set to sync manually, as it shows up as a disk as part of the sync process, and iTunes has no way of knowing when you're done syncing an iPod set to do so manually.
