Is it possible for someone to scan someone else's card with Apple Pay?

Hi All,
Can't find a concrete answer on this, but maybe someone here knows.
Is it possible for someone to scan someone else's card into Apple Pay?
My fear is now that apple pay is out there, picture this:
Someone goes and buys an "Unlocked iPhone" with cash from a apple store.  So now its not locked or setup to anyone or any carrier.
That same person works in a restaurant.  Takes your card at checkout and walks off to ring up the bill.  Instead, they scan your card and enter it into Apple Pay on this new unlocked device.
They now have your card, verified the security code on the card, entered your name, and then (on wi fi) it authenticates and sets itself up.
They then give you back your card, you leave.
After their shift, they go and pay $1000 on your card , then delete it, and next day, they come back and do it all over again.
Not saying this is feasible, but what is stopping someone from doing that?  Today, they need your billing info if they do, which they wouldn't have, but this seems to be very quick to authenticate and allow that device access to spend.
Just wondering if Apple would be asking for authentication via apple ID, or something else to prevent fraudulent scanning of cards.
Any thoughts?

This was posted a little bit after your query.
Note: This article is misleading in that the "security issue" wasn't really about Apple Pay...

To summarize, your bank will usually send a code to your phone number or email to authorize the card.

I wasted about 1.5 hours with Apple on this issue. It all started happening after I updated to the latest version of iTunes. I haven't been able to sync my iPhone 4 in 1 month and am freaking out about possibly losing my pictures, video, text messages and music.

  • Is it possible to replace the iTunes (Mac) 10 band EQ with Apple's 31 band EQ?

Apple supplies a very nice 31 band graphic equalizer as part of its Audio Units. This is the same Audio Unit as the 10 band graphic EQ. You choose to use 10 octave bands or 31 1/3 octave bands from within the module. So I guess it should be possible to use the 31 band EQ from inside iTunes Mac. Anybody figured out how?.
Why do I need it?. My current stereo music palyback system is comprised by a MacBook Pro, a PreSonus FireBox D/A converter and a pair of Meridian M2 active speakers, which, good as they are, have an annoying, narrow 3 dB peak at 3 kHz. The nearest bands on the iTunes 10 band EQ fall exactly to each side of this peak (2 & 4 kHz), so to attenuate the 3 kHz peak I need to push down the 2 & 4 kHz bands a bit, but the resulting filter is far too broad and the outcome is never pleasing. I tried with Apple's AU's 31 Band Graphic and the Parametric EQs from within Fidelia and the result is quite good. But I don´t like Fidelia's interface and limited library management capabilities, so I prefer to use iTunes as the main music player.
I tried running the iTunes audio through AU Lab using SoundFlower, and it does work when using the Mac's Buit-in output, but when I choose the FireBox output AU Lab stops receiving any audio. Switching back the AU Lab output to built-in audio resumes the audio input to the AU Lab document. I tried all sorts of combinations with no luck. Maybe this is because the FireBox is also an audio input interface?. Anybody knows how to fix this issue?.
But all this fuss would be saved, and a lot of people around the world would have a much better life using iTunes in their Macs, if Apple allowed choosing to use the 31 band graphic EQ from within iTunes, which has the narrow 3.1 kHz band that I need to flatten out the frequency response of my speakers. Many other users mught also benefit from the finer control to correct loudspeaker or room acoustics defficiencies.
Any ideas?. Would Apple please allow users to choose the rpeferred EQ: 10 or 31 band?. Thanks in advance!

    This is perfect: https://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/
Even in trial mode, it allows you to insert every AU plugins you want, configuring each application with a specific audio chain you desire.
I'm currently using it for music (Itunes or Spotify, 31 band Eq as you said), but for watching movies could be a good choice as well.
I find it particularly useful when I watch movies at night. In order not to **** off the neighbors, I put a compressor at the beginning of the audio chain to reduce the dynamics, allowing me not to have crazy volume jumps.

  • Do gift cards work with apple pay (i.e. touching phone to reader vs. having it scanned)?

So if I setup a gift card will it work with the touch sensor at the store or will it have to be scanned off my phone?

If the Gift Card has a Visa, MasterCard or Amex logo and is from one of the participating issuers, it may work using the contactless reader.

  • Is it possible for me to replace the present pictures on the Apple TV home page with my own personal pics?

Is it possible to replace the present pictures on the Apple TV home page(floating) with my own?

    Welcome to the Apple Computer.
You can't change the stock photos, but you can add your own and view those instead.
First add your photos, you can do this from the advanced menu in iTunes. Once you've added photos to share, go to settings > screensaver on the Apple TV and select the photos to use as a screensaver.

  • Possible for POJO to have a set of children with only one table?

I have a situation that I'd like to model with Hibernate, but I'm not sure how to proceed.
I've got two objects: Filter and Criterion. Filter has a java.util.Set of Criterion children.
I currently have a schema with two tables: FILTERS and CRITERIA. The FILTERS table has nothing more than a primary key. CRITERIA has a foreign key relationship with FILTERS. I have a FilterDAO that will query the FILTERS table and bring back a Filter object that will use the one-to-many, parent-child relationship between the two tables to populate the Set.
A DBA here has pointed out that the FILTERS table is anemic - it has nothing more than a primary key. She suggested that I eliminate it and go directly against the CRITERIA table to populate that Set.
I'm so used to thinking about these things in terms of primary/foreign key relationships that I'm not seeing how to accomplish this with Hibernate. Is it a mere <set> declaration that populates the child java.util.Set<Criterion>? The WHERE clause would have to include a filter type. Is that where the JOIN has to come? Is the two table schema absolutely necessary, or can I get away without it?
Hibernate allows the object model to be more fine-grained than the schema. The classic example is a PERSON table that has address information it in. I can model this on the object side using Person and Address classes and ask Hibernate to fetch the Address state as a component. Is this the same situation as my Filter and Criterion?
Sorry if I sound confused, or if the question rambles. I guess I don't understand Hibernate well, because any time I get off the beaten path I fall into a hole.

Well, you're more advanced than me with Hibernate. I'd be very surprised if that were true, DrClap. 8)
I can't even get one-to-many relationships working the
way I'd like, every time I think I have it right
(i.e. just the same as the examples) it gives me some
guff about backreferences not existing.I'm finding Hibernate to be a bit difficult, especially when I don't have control over the schema. Our DBAs don't seem to follow all the "best practices" that Hibernate recommends.
So my advice might not be the best. But if you don't
have the Filters table, but you still need to get all
the Criterions with "filter key" = x, then isn't that
just a Query? Sure, you get the data back as a List,
but you can wrap that in a Set pretty easily.I've gone back to the DBA and concluded that we have to have a FILTERS table (there's a FILTER_TYPE descriptor field that I've added). It's back in, so the 1:m with CRITERIA should work fine.
But it begs the question: Does Hibernate and O/R mapping demand at least one table per object?
If I look in "Hibernate In Action" on page 92, it says "A major objective of the Hibernate project is support for fine grained object models" - more classes than tables. There should be an adjective "persistent" applied to classes in that phrase, because I can have many more classes that are not persisted.
So I take this to mean that the limit is one persistent class per table, but never less. True?

  • On purchasing Ipad online, does Apple asks for email of scanned documents like credit card billings, etc. from buyer?

    Hi!
My mother wanted an Ipad 3rd generation.  We bought it online because of the free engraving and thinking it was hassle free.
What is SOP for buying Ipad online?  I received an email (on that day) and a call (day after) that we were required to email to [email protected] or fax to  1800-1651-0554 credit card statement.  Is this valid?  This is my first time to buy gadget online.
    Thank you.

SoP is used in tangent when advisors speak about Scope of Support. I can't say for sure if this is legit or not because 800 numbers should be... but I am always weary of faxing off credit card info in this day & age.

  • Is it possible for me to enable single key tab switching with, or without TabMix+?

If this is possible, please elaborate carefully because I am an idiot.

Is your base station acting as a NAT router or a bridge?
From your description it sounds like it's running as a NAT router, where it has one IP address and it shares that address amongst other wireless clients, typically in a 10.1.x.x. subnet.
In bridge mode the base station simply links the wired and wireless networks on the same subnet.
You can toggle the base station settings by checking the 'Distribute IP Addresses' under the Network tab in AirPort Admin. If it's turned on the base station is running as a NAT router, if it's off, it's a bridge.

    Hello, heatsiphonman,
I am having the exact same issue with my 5G iPod. I tried a clean restart (with no memory of open windows), and all the other suggestions via the support website and it's still a no-go. Not sure where to go from here. It seems like it may be a Lion issue or a combination of Lion and iTunes 10.5. I may take it in to an Apple store and see if I can get it to sync there. Meanwhile, I'll keep a close eye on this topic to see if anyone else might be having this issue.
    Mike.

  • Billing information being asked for when purchasing free apps and signed in with apple id

Hi, I have the iPhone 5 a couple of months now and I have set up my apple id since the day I bought the phone. Only over the last week when I have to update my apps (free apps) or try to download free apps I am asked for my billing information. As this has never happened before the last week, I am wondering why this is? Thanks on advance. P.S. my card details are saved I only need to put in the security code and expiration date. I am told I have to verify my payment before I can make purchases, but there is no payment due.

  • Adobe Offline Form - Parse method is not possible for this type

    Hi All,
I have developed an application for the offline scenario of interactive adobe form. I tried to load the adobe form from my desktop. After pressing the button "Display form" it throws an error "Parse method is not possible for this type".
If I include wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute("pdfObject").getModifiableSimpleType() in the doInit() method of the view I receive this error -
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.context.ContextException: MappedAttributeInfo(UploadView.pdfObject): must not modify the datatype of a mapped attribute
When I comment it out and upload I receive the error enclosed -
Parse method is not possible for this type
Can someone please help me with a step by step solution to this problem?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Divya

    Hi Divya,
Please try to do it as stated below:
         IWDAttributeInfo attInfo = wdContext.getNodeInfo().getAttribute("pdfObject");
         ISimpleTypeModifiable type = attInfo.getModifiableSimpleType();
         IWDModifiableBinaryType binaryType = (IWDModifiableBinaryType)type;
Try putting the code in wdInit() or wdDoModifyView().
Let me know if you still face the issue.

  • Is it possible for an external device to burn out the USB port?

I think the available current of the USB port is 500 mA. If a USB device can work with a current of 500mA ~ 600mA, is it possible for it to burn out the USB port with 600mA current (larger than the safe 500mA) when connected? Or the port can never provide a current larger than 500mA?
    Thank you.
P.S. The USB device I worry about is a pair of USB warm slipper (to be worn on feet in cold winter). Its label reads "5V / 2.5W", which should be safe. But I once connected it and a mouse to a USB hub, then to a single MBP USB port, and the mouse stopped working in a few seconds, and came back normal only after I switched it to another port. Now the slipper is connected to a port by itself, but I am just afraid that the USB slipper can go malfunctioning all of a sudden and drain a lot of current to burn the USB port.

...But I once connected it and a mouse to a USB hub, then to a single MBP USB port, and the mouse stopped working in a few seconds, and came back normal only after I switched it to another port....
Likely the hub is only barely able to handle the 500mA requirement.  Many powered USB hubs have "cheap" power adapters and can't handle any high surge situations.  Many devices like heating elements and motors have "surge currents" where the initial powering on of the device has a much larger current flow than during normal usage.  Think of it like riding a bicycle.  You have to push hard on the pedals to start off, but it's easier to pedal after the bike is moving.
...Now the slipper is connected to a port by itself...
If you mean the device is plugged into the Mac's USB port, then you should know that all Macs for the past few years provide more than the 500mA minimum for USB.  Some other computers also provide higher power.  But most USB hubs I've seen were limited to 500mA.
If you are plugged into the hub, not the Mac, then the power adapter for your hub may be barely adequate or possibly even defective.
...but I am just afraid that the USB slipper can go malfunctioning all of a sudden and drain a lot of current to burn the USB port.
IMHO, I would stop using the heater with any computer USB port.  There is always the possibility that eventually something could short out in the heating element and cause a catestrophic surge through the USB port.  The electronics in computers are quite delicate and I'd be paranoid about the device damaging my computer.  (BTW, I have an electrical engineering background so I'm paranoid about power issues all the time anyway. )  Even if the heater is plugged into a hub, the surge current could damage the other devices plugged into the hub.  While not as catastrophic as a dead computer, I'd still be irked to have to replace my mouse, digital camera, printer, webcam, etc.
Instead, I recommend plugging the heater into it's own "power adapter."  One of those that give a USB port to charge a cellphone or whatever.  Plug the power adapter into a power strip.  Place the power strip in the floor next to the slippers.  That way you can conviniently turn the strip on and off with your toes as you're putting on your slippers.

  • Is it possible for new ipad buyer change for Ipad 4?

i heard that apple had stop produce the new ipad due to the ipad 4 is coming. it's really unfair for new ipad buyer who just buy it this year. is it possible for the new ipad buyer change their ipad with the ipad 4?

This is just a website scam that's going around right now. It cannot infect you in any way.
Some people have reported being directed to the App Store to download a particular camera app. If you are, do not download it. It cannot infect you with anything, but you don't want to reward the scammers by downloading their app. If you downloaded the app and paid money for it, contact Apple to dispute the charge.
