Is it possible to activate IPhone while outside of cell coverage?

I have a quick question concerning activation of an iPhone. i live in the mountains and have no cell service of any kind. (or much else) I do however spend time down in civilization and that is really where i intend to use the iPhone. (and where i use my current cell phone). i am a loyal mac user and have an apple id and an itunes account i have broadband internet connection via hughesnet but do not currently have an AT&T account
My question is this- would i be able to activate my iPhone at my home where there is no cell coverage and then when i do get to where there is coverage be able to use it? Or does the activation process require AT&T to able to connect to the iPhone to complete the activation? Lastly does it change things if i wish to transfer my old cell number to the new iPhone. Good to know, but still, the OP doesn't have to go to the Apple store to do this. I didn't. Maybe it loads all the required info into the phone and goes through when a signal is available, I don't understand the technical specs. All I know is that I have absolutely NO bars (I'd have NEGATIVE bars, if that could happen!) and I did all of my activating and updating on my home computer (or started the process I should say!)

That is the price of the phone. If you sign up for a two year contract with AT&T, they subsidize the phone, so will sell it for a lot lower price and get the difference from your monthly payments over the two years. In either case, the phone is locked to AT&T.

I have the phone and a SIM card from my carrier, but the card hasn't been activated yet. I've read on the internet that it is possible to activate iPhones with inactive or old sim cards as long as they are from the appropriate carrier, but my card doesn't seem to work. Whenever I try to activate my iPhone, it tells me to insert a valid and unlocked SIM. I have disabled the PIN code using another phone, but it still doesn't work. Is this a hardware issue or do I simply have to wait for my service plan and SIM card to be activated?
I am worried about this because the phone worked well without a SIM card until I reset it to the factory settings. (This is a used phone.)

Gutenprint drivers are intended for non-laser printers. HP supplies the proper drivers, and you can download the latest version directly from HP's support site. Or you can install the most recent HP drivers provided by Apple.
Printing speeds do not include the time it may take to transfer data to the printer. It also doesn't take into account the time it takes for the printer to be prepared to start printing. Color is much slower than B/W.
Contact HP for any additional assistance you may need since these forums do not provide support for non-Apple products.

Yup. If it is enabled (and i believe it is by default) in the settings, double clicking the home button brings up the iPod controls which allow you to raise the volume, play a song, and more forward or backward a song. If the headphones are plugged in, clicking the center button on the headphones once can also play/pause a song while double clicking will move forward and triple clicking will move backward.

AT&T has nothing to say about warranty issues, and AT&T reps are in general woefully informed about such matters. Apple has said that they do not support any attempts to unlock an iPhone, and if such an attempt renders the iPhone unfunctional, as has happened to some people, Apple will consider that to be an unauthorized modification which voids the warranty.
Furthermore, Turkey has authorised Apple outlets who claim to validly support my Apple extended plan warranty on my Mac.
Irrelevant. Mac sales are not restricted by country whereas the iPhone is. Further, it doesn't require any unauthorized modifications to use a Mac outside the country in which it is sold, whereas use of an iPhone with any cell network other than the one to which it's locked (or in France, a French network) does require unauthorized modifications.
Bottom line: an iPhone will not work as sold by Apple in any cell network but those for which the iPhone is sold (see above for a list). Anyone who attempts to modify an iPhone to work with another cell network will get not support from Apple and risks voiding the iPhones warranty.

Could not activate iPhone - server is unavailable; update not possible

My iPhone said it required activation when I turned it on. I go to the "Activate iPhone" screen and enter my Apple ID and password. Hitting "Next" doesn't seem to produce any results, but then tells me (after multiple attempts) that "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable." I found this result: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3424. I tried restarting it but get the same screen.
I tried connecting to iTunes and I am told that the software has expired and must be updated. Hitting the "Check for Update" button on iTunes, however, says I'm up to date. The last option the link above gives is to "Restore iPhone" - however clicking this tells me I have to turn off "Find My iPhone" before I can. How do I turn off "Find My iPhone"? I have to access the app on my device, which I can't get into as it's not activated.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this?

this is outrageous! I'm a developer too and using ios since the beta versions! Now I can't use my iphone, neither activate it (takes too long and then gives an error). Itunes gives an error too saying that the software version is wrong but I can't update it because it says that I have the latest version....

Haven't gotten mine yet, but I read last night that reps were telling people that they absolutely could activate by dialing *228, or by iTunes. However, I doubt the MEID is on the outside of the box. Apple isn't too keen on ruining their packaging with a label like that.

Using iphone while carplay is on

hi there, I was thinking about buying a Pioneer aftermarket car stereo in order to use CarPlay, but I got stuck with a doubt:
is it still possible to use the iPhone while CarPlay is on? I mean, can I use whatsapp or facebook or any other app that won't go on carplay's display? 'cause this would mean having half the functions of the iphone. you could say I shouldn't chat on whatsapp while driving, you're right, but what if someone on the passenger seat wanted to use my phone?

CarPlay is not available anywhere else. It hasn't been released for any other car. Pioneer has not released the update for their head units that is supposed to support it either.
At this point, CarPlay is totally MIA. Apple removed the "Coming 2014" from their website too. So if/when it will arrive is anyone's guess.
Believe me, I know all about the wait. I bought a 2014 Civic in February in expectation of CarPlay. It's the car that's dashboard is used on the CarPlay website for most of the pics. Honda and Apple still haven't released anything or said a word.

How was she told she has a virus? Sometimes bad people send texts or emails to someone saying they have a virus or other problem with their device, hoping the user will fall for the trap and give away personal information or passwords, or will buy some unneeded product. These are called "phishing" messages. That's most likely what happened.
While in theory any computing device could be attacked by a virus, worm or other malware, there are currently no known threats to iPhones.

Did you used to have service and now suddenly you don't?
This happened to me a few years back, and several other iPhone users in my neighborhood, and after a while on the phone with AT&T they figured out that a technician had recently adjusted the receiver/sender on the tower and it was slightly off. They sent them back up and I actually had a better signal after than I did before it went out.
I would call AT&T and explain the issue you are having and see if they can fix it.
If you never had service there then like wjosten said it's probably just a bad zone.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only wipe your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
