Is it possible to add a second monitor via mac mini with iMac

Hi
is it possible to add a second monitor via mac mini with iMac
or is there another solution?
all i want to know is if i can run a second monitor or link a mac mini for more speed like i heard you can with the G5 Towers.

The iMac will allow you to connect a second monitor but that monitor will show the same thing as the iMac's built-in screen.
You can network a Mac mini and iMac via Ethernet or Firewire.
Software load sharing like Xgrid can allow you to share work between the Macs.

  • HT3913 how do i add a second monitor to a late 2009 iMac 27"

I would like to know how to add a second monitor to my late 2009 iMac 27". Has anyone already performed this and if so how?

Depends on the monitor, many support more than one connection.
Also note that: VGA is analog, DVI is digital and HDMI is full HDMI technology.
For a VGA supported monitor, you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adaptor and a VGA cable.
For a DVI supported monitor under 24", you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adaptor and a DVI cable.
For a DVI supported monitor over 24" you will need a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
For a HDMI supported monitor, you will need a > Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter and a HDMI cable.

  • Second monitor for Mac Mini

    Hi - some help please.
My mac mini is connected to a 27" thunderbolt display screen and runs logic pro 9.  I am trying to connect my macbook pro as a second monitor for the mixer/piano roll to be open alongside the arrange window on the thunderbolt display.   I can't get it to work.  Some help please would be appreciated

It looks like a program called Air Display can also do that:

Here's the problem I am trying to research for you...
There does exist a way to add a second monitor via USB:
USB 2.0 to HDMI Audio Video 1080P Adapter for Windows and Macbook
It's the only device I know of that can do that.  The problem is that it wants a HDMI connection.  So that means a HDMI-to-VGA adapter or converter needs to be found (not VGA-to-HDMI, those are easier to find).
    Interesting article realted to this:
    Hdmi to vga adapter
Maybe somthing like this converter will work.

  • How do I add a second monitor to an HP Pavilion M8200N

When I look at the ports in the back there is only one VGA port but no DVI port. There are about 4 USB ports one 1394 style port and an RCA video and audio jack labeled Input ( there is also a set on the front also showing as input) . Can any of these be used to add a second monitor. There is also a jack that looks like its for a telephone in green. and some various audio output jacks. As of now I havn't purchased a second monitor due to needing to know what ports it should have to connect with this computer. If it can't be done I will save my money.

    Hi,
Based on the following link, you don't have any choice w/o spending more money to add more hardware:
      http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01151028&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en...
To be honest, I would not spend more money to this machine, this may end up cost more money than to buy a new machine (w/o monitors - assuming you already have 2 monitors).

  • Can I add a second monitor to my MacBook Air notebook and use both monitors simultaneously?

Can I add a second monitor to my MacBook Air notebook and use both monitors simultaneously?  For example, have a spreadsheet open on the notebook monitor while the second monitor is displaying an architectural drawing?

MiniDisplay-to-? adapters ... ? replaced by VGA or DVI or HDMI
Best to use only 1 adapter to match the intended cable since mutliple-adapter setup (buy a VGA, then add VGA-DVI adapter) tendsto lose signal strength.
Also graphics chips run hotter driving external display, and since the graphics chip in Air is part of the CPU the CPU may throttle itself as the integrated graphics chip heats up.
    Two modes of operation:
Mirror ... same image both displays
Extended ... the other screen is "extra screen space"

  • Can I add a second monitor to a TouchSmart 520-1070?

Can I add a second monitor to a TouchSmart 520-1070?  Can it be done through a USB port with a USB to DVI converter?

To connect your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 desktop computer to a second monitor or a TV, you will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter. I recommend the eVGA UV Plus+ 19 USB-to-Video Adapter, however many of these other USB-to-video adapters should also work.
FYI... with a touch screen, you can only "clone" the desktop... trying to "extend" the desktop may cause problems using the computer.

  • New monitor and old monitor on mac mini

    Hi
I have a mac mini with a thunderbolt port and a new 27 inch led cinema display, i have an old moniter which is 20 inch and i believe has a DVI connection.
Is there a way i can use this as a second monitor?
    Many Thanks

You can utilise the second monitor by purchasing a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, placing the adapter in the mini display port and then connecting a DVI cable from the adapter to the monitor.

  • What monitor for mac mini?

I just ordered mac mini with I7 processor, flash drive and 8 gig memory.  Want to watch streaming movies and edit photos.  Prefer 24" monitor, suggestions?

Shop around, most any modern LG, Samsung, AOC, Acer, Dell, HP, etc. with HDMI and/or DVI inputs will work with a Mac Mini.
Additionally you can use dual monitors, an HDMI or DVI monitor on the HDMI output (DVI using the supplied HDMI to DVI Adapter) and second HDMI, DVI or VGA monitor on the Mac Mini's Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort using the corresponding Mini DisplayPort to HDMI, DVI or VGA Adapter.

  • New Mac Mini with Lion Video Problem With Dell E228WFP monitor

Just purchased a new mini Mac 2.3 with Lion pre installed.  I connected to my old Dell E228WFPI monitor via the Mini Display to VGA adapter.  The mini mac worked fine for an hour until I put it to sleep.  It would not rewake.  After rebute the gray screen and apple logo appear with clock, but after clock screen to black and monitor goes to power saver mode.  Took unit to apple store twice and could not resolve problem by changing resolution or other methiods.  Finally, we learned that the system works fine using Belkin HDMI to DVI cable.  This Dell Monitor had DVI connector.  Hope this helps...

How can a computer that's been turned off (and I mean completely OFF) get a network request? Only a sleeping computer should react to such a request. If you're sure you shut down (Apple Menu, Shut Down), then only an internal power supply or logic board problem should cause this. The only way it could be software is if Lion is not shutting down the computer but is instead putting it to sleep. Is it a new Mac Mini? If so, you should have it replaced or repaired.

  • Can I run VGA monitor from Mac Mini HDMI port?

    Hi:
I have a Mac Mini with one HDMI port and one Thunderbolt port. I have a Thunderbolt-only audio interface, so I need to connect my monitor to the HDMI port.
I bought an HDMI to VGA adapter cable for this purpose, but when I connect the monitor (Acer  x233hz), all I get is a "No Signal Present" error message.
Is there a setting I can change in order to use the hardware I have, or do I have to find another solution?
    Thanks!

You need an HDMI to VGA converter, not an adopter. Since the HDMI signal is digital only you need to convert that to analogue. You need somnethging like this

  • 17" monitor for Mac Mini

I'd been thinking of getting a Mac Mini with a 20" wide screen, but after using a 20" iMac, I found that I didn't really like using a screen that big, possibly because of a damaged vertebra in my neck. I'm still intending to buy a Mac Mini, but now my idea is to get a 4:3 17" screen. I'm thinking DVI and 75Hz. There seem to be lots of good, cheapish screens with these characteristics. There are quite a few here.
Is a 500:1 contrast ratio okay or do I need 1000:1 or 2000:1? Is 8ms response time okay, or do I need 5ms or 2ms? I do have a subscription to watch Champions League Football (Soccer). Finally, can anyone recommend a good manufacturer or (even better) a good model?

A 500:1 contrast ratio is perfectly good enough for prolonged use and a wide range of purposes. Much higher than that and the display has better characteristics than the eye can work with, though going a little higher would give you wider control.
Where response time is concerned, what is acceptable or not is dependent entirely on the proposed use. Faster response times (lower number) means less blurring of fast-moving images, though in reality that only really impacts more on images moving sideways across the screen rather that 'forward' or 'backwards'. 8ms is fine for most things, though for soccer with considerable movement laterally, 5ms would be better.
My own preference in the past has been for NEC, HP and the Dell UltraSharp range, though there are many good manufacturers out there, many using the same basic LCD panels (for example, Dell's utrasharp displays use the same panels as Apple in the cinema displays). If you can, check a variety of displays out in local BestBuy, CircuitCity or even Stapes stores to get some idea of the differences.
