Is it possible to alter button image transparency in a "Standard" menu?

Hello all,
A newbie to DVDSP 4.0 here. I've been given a project where I have to match a pre-existing menu and navigation design (the original files are not available for me to use). I have been able to recreate the design of the menus without any problems, but I've run into an issue with recreating button states. Each button includes both text and a still image.
This is what I'd like to accomplish:
Normal state: Text and image are semi-transparent
Selected state: Text is highlighted and the image is fully visible (the image no longer semi-transparent)
Activated state: Text is white and image is colorized in the highlight color
An example is posted here: http://www.viscominc.com/button/button.jpg
The normal state is straight forward, I have done this as part of my background. I have used an advanced overlay to get the results I need for the activated state.
Is it possible to reach my goal for the selected state without using a layered menu? I'd like stay away from layered menus if at all possible.
Thanks for any insight!

Now I see what you are saying, sorry I just saw the orange more than the background. There is no way to change the opacity of an element in the background (since she is in the background at a certain opacity that was used.)
So to have her be a different opactity OVER the other portions of the background which she is already part of, you would need to use layered menus to effectively replace the section. (You could try using auto actions to string through menus - which what layered menus are, but you can run into issues, not 100% reliable)
I keep on looking at it though, the colors sort of look like a puzzle even though I know it will not work. And still I keep looking One way is if you did not need the colors as much in the back ground, you make the background fully opaque (the blue and the woman.) The overlay would be the text and then the circle area including the curves underneath it and map it out that way, but would not be quite the same

  • Possible to alter email image attachment size interpretations?

I often have occasion to attach large images to emails.  The pop-up in the lower right corner of email composer windows could be useful if it was more specific or if I could customize it.
It's "Large" setting usually either crunches images to be what I would consider small, or leaves them very close to the size I begin with, depending on how compressed my images are.  Both "Medium" and "Small" virtually always make attachments far too tiny for my purposes.
If not a "standard" way of doing this, I wondered if anybody knows a way to alter what "Small", "Medium", and "Large" mean.

What those settings produce will depend upon the initial file you attach.  What is the source of these files, and file type?

  • Is it possible to import an image w/ transparent background from photoshop?

    Hello,
I was wondering if it's possible to import an image which contains a transparent part of it into Motion, so I can later add in images and videos underneath that layer.
    Thanks for your time.

    hi again,
there are two ways to do this. In Photoshop you can elect to have a transparent background, if you erase your image to show the chequered background, Motion will do the same.
Or from within Motion you can apply a mask to an image to have it show whats underneath. Apply the mask using the mask tools in the toolbar to the image, then step over to the Inspector, hit the mask tab and select the type as subtract. That will punch a hole in your image revealing whatever is underneath it.
    thanks

How do I create buttons that once clicked and un clicked, alter an image?
So for example if I imported a psd file into Muse with 5 layers, could i create 5 buttons which, when clicked, each individually took off and added 1 layer?

  • Is it possible to make the background of an image transparent in indesign?

is it possible to make the background of an image transparent in indesign?

It's not necessarily the best way, but depending on the image content, you might be able to get an acceptable result with the options under Object > Clipping Path...
EDIT: So technically, the answer to your question is: No, but you can apply a clipping path to hide the background.
Also, again depending on the image content, as well as the underlying content, it might be possible to use blend modes in the Effects panel to render the background transparent.
Background removal is best done in Photoshop, where the image can then be saved as .PSD and its native transparency will be honored when placed in InDesign.

  • Need help with info about the possibility of altering images when saved in a different format

I am very new to the design world.  I have a printing business and received and image to be printed in Adobe Acrobat (I think).  I needed to resize the image to be printed and took it into Photoshop CS6 where I cropped the edges.  I then resave it as a PDF and took into a printer software, Fiery.  Fiery has an Impose function where you can repeat an image to layout it on the correct paper size.  It essentially just copies the original image several times depending on the layout.  This particular image I repeated to 3 up and 1 across.  When printed it came out with a magenta streak through the center image only.  I have had the machine checked and they are adamant it's not a printer issue but a software issue.  That once I altered the original image by resizing it that I altered the image and that I can't expect it to come out as seen on the screen.  I've printed it all sorts of different ways and it only occurs with the 3 up 1 across image.  I know that images can be changed when saved from program to program but this situation does not make sense that it is only the one area and layout that this shows up. I would appreciate any help, input, answers that anyone has.  Again, I'm new to this and would like to understand if this is a potential for further printing jobs so that I can do what I need to avoid this situation.
    Thank you for your time.

    Jessica,
Without knowing how the original graphic was created it is hard to tell you how to handle it. What is the name of the file? (Only the file suffix is important). If the file's origin was in a drawing program and/Or InDesign, then the document should be handled differently if the document is a raster image best handled by a program like Photoshop.

  • Custom button images clipped

I have created some custom buttons yet when I preview the
buttons in Captivate 2, they get clipped by about 1px along the
bottom and right edge of the button. I have tried many button image
formats (.gif, .jpg, .bmp) all with the same results. I also
checked my slide settings (Slide Quality = High) and Project
    Preferences (JPEG Image Quality=100%).
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Brian

    Hi Brian
I would think one possible solution would be to simply add an
additional pixel to the button. Possibly two. Then surround the
image with an unused color that would be rendered as transparent.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • Screen painter button image

    Hello
Can anyone tell me if it possible to put an image on a button in the screen painter? I would like buttons like in "Tax Report - Selection Criteria" form (i.e. an up- and a down-button), but I don't succeed in putting such an image on the button.
    Thanks in advance
    Iris Spenninck

    Hello
Now I have found how to put an image on a button, but I have yet another question.
In stead of a normal button with an image, I would like to have an orange triangle like in the reconciliation form (triangle up and triangle down).
Anyone any idea how to accomplish that?
    Thanks
    Iris

  • Is it possible to insert images in Adobe 9 Standard?

It appears that it is not possible to insert images in Adobe 9 Standard.  There is no TouchUp Object Tool in the Advanced Editing Toolbar in the standard version.  Only a TouchUp Text Tool.  Is this not a basic function being able to add or change an image in a document?  The tutorials all show this as a capability but they are also demonstrating in the Pro version of Acrobat.  Is there a work around or have I been suckered into buying a product that doesn't quite meet my needs?

The Touch-Up Object tool is not available in Standard.
Adobe Acrobat is not meant to be a word processing program; it is meant to be a cross-platform method for document exchange. Changes are best made in the source program. While the answer to your question would not have been obvious from this list, it is a good reference for the difference between Acrobat products: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html .
If for some reason it is not possible to edit the source file and create the pdf again, you can insert your image as a form button and then flatten it. A lot more work, but post if you want help with this.
--For other folks reading this thread, Adobe offers trials of its programs. Consider testing before buying.

  • How do you make images transparent in inDesign?

How do you make images transparent in Adobe InDesign CS5.5?

    Dittco wrote:
It IS possible: Select the image. Open effects (Window > Effects). Switch from "normal" to "multiply". Viola! White background is gone.
That only works with a white background. In addition, it introduces a transparency effect, with its associated problems.
With a rather light background: Select the image. Open clipping path (Object > Clipping Path > Options). Select Type > Detect Edges; use Threshold and Tolerance to get as close as possible to the edge of your image. This may be difficult because of a too low resolution image, or too much fringe on the edge -- if all fails, use the Inset Frame value to force the mask "into" the image. Click OK, and the background is gone.
But that's not the only way: you can always create a clipping path manually, and then you are in total control, not limited by transparency side effects, auto-edge detection, and busy backgrounds.

  • Button image issues

Im having issues with button images in captivate 4, after designing buttons in photoshop then saving them as PNG's and putting them in the buttons folder. When i apply these buttons to a slide the button images are missing parts and look bad.. any suggestions?, please help.

    Hi there
I believe Captivate uses the color value of the pixel in position 0, 0 to determine the transparent color for the button image. You need to ensure you are using a unique color for that location. What you posted seems to infer that you have a color being rendered as transparent and the color is used in other places in the image.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Is it possible to submit an image file with PDF form?

    Hello,
I know that Acrobat does not offer a field for image file submission.
whether there are workarounds to solve this problem?
I have found suggestions regarding place an image to button icon:
       event.target.buttonImportIcon();
but I can't understand is it possible to submit this image to server (Reader supports PDF only).
    Any advices?
    Yury

    Hi Yury,
Yes, that's correct you can create a button and add a script to it that would prompt the user to select an image file when that button is clicked. Then that image can be displayed using the same button (buttons can show either an image or text).
    The script in question is:
    event.target.buttonImportIcon();
You need to add it as an Run a JavaScript-action to your button, triggered by the MouseUp event, and of course set the button's layout.
Please refer to this link : https://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-to-create-a-button-form-field-to-insert-a-pdf-file
On submitting the image it gets embedded with the PDF.
If the users are using Acrobat they will be able to view the image in the PDF, however if they are using only Reader, you will have to create the form using LiveCycle & then save it in a Reader Extendable Format.

  • How do I remove white jagged edges after making image transparent?

How do I remove white jagged edges after making image transparent?  Is there a feature to help out with this?

It's a file format limitation. GIF supports 1 bit of transparency.  That is 2^1 (which equals 2 total) levels of transparency.  This equates to either NO transparency at all, or specifying 1 single color of the 256 total possible values to being fully transparent.
This will leave a very ugly fringe around the edge no matter what; it will only not be visible in color that match or are close to the fringe color; and then, that's a perception issue.
Try creating an alpha channel and saving the image as a PNG.  That supports 8 bits of transparency, which equals 2^8 or 256 total different levels of transparency.  This will let your image have very smooth edges with no jagged transitions.

  • Is is possible to have the images as thumbnails and make it so you can click on them for a larger view and then click them again to have it go back to the original size? In an interactive pdf?

I am designing an interactive catalog in a pdf. Is it possible to have the images as a thumbnail and then click them to enlarge the image and then click again to make them go back to the original size?
    Thank you in advance!
    Stephanie

It can be done with Show/Hide buttons:
Here's a button created from a small version of the image (notice that it's selected in the image below):
The small button has a Show/Hide Buttons and Forms action. It's action is to make the Larger Image visible (eyeball turned on) with the small image hidden (eyeball turned off).
The large image is also turned into a button (shown below):
Notice the checkbox "Hidden Until Triggered". The large button is hidden until it's triggered by the small button. Clicking on the large image also causes a Show/Hide action which shows the Small button and hides the large button.
