  • Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW photo files from my camera, through the IPad and back to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras does not use an SD card.  How can I do this?

Is it possible to have two USB drives for the IPad?  I want to bring RAW files from my camera through the IPad and out to an external hard drive.  One of my cameras has an SD card but the other one doesn't have a card that would fit in any of the camera devices I've seen on line.  Realted to this, I bought the IPad camera accessory.  Can I put the SD card in the device and also hook the external hard drive to the USB port of the accessory and download from the camera to the hard drive?  Can I put Lightroom or the Nikon photo editing software on the IPad?  Right now I carry a PC laptop and external hard drives with me on wildernes trips.  Internet and WiFi are not available.  Because I shoot so many photos and they're in RAW I need to download from the camera to the external drive because I run out of memory on the PC (and it has much more memory than the IPad).  I have Nikon NX software and lightroom on my PC.  I'd love to be able to reduce the weight I carry by using the IPad to edit my photos each night while on trips.  Is this possible and how would I do it?  I'd appreciate any guidance.

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.

  • Can I use an external hard drive for my ipad mini?

Can I use an external hard drive for my ipad mini?

There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.
    Another option:
Expand your iPad's storage capacity with HyperDrive

  • Why can't I connect to my home WiFi network with my new iPad Mini?

Why can't I connect to my home WiFi network with my new iPad Mini when I can connect to free WiFi networks at cafes and public areas?

    Try this:
    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • How can I map a network drive on an iPad once a VPN is established?

I have a new iPad and I am trying to access a network drive once I establish a VPN on my company's network. I can establish the VPN, but I am not sure of how to map a network drive like I do on my MacBook using smb.

Not true.  You can use the app NetPortal https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/netportal-access-files-on/id323133602?mt=8
Does exactly what you want.  There's a free version, netportal lite, that does the same thing but only lets you access PDFs.  Try downloading the free version first to see if you are able to get connected.  I was able to easily on first try once I establised my VPN, ran this app, and entered in the local IP address, username, and password.

  • Is it possible to lock the numeric keyboard on the iPad mini so that I do not have to go back to the regular keyboard every time I press the space button?

Is it possible to lock the onscreen numeric keyboard on the iPad mini so that I do not have to go back to the regular keyboard every time I press the space button?

Thanks so very much!! You ROCK! I took your second suggestion and went into the iPad settings menu and then into the app. From there I was able to mute the sound effects I wanted. Really appreciate your help.

  • Is it possible to replace the back panel on an iPad Mini 2?

My girlfriend has managed to dent the back panel of her iPad Mini 2 and I was wondering if it is possible to get a panel replacement or not?

If you take it into an authorized repair place the fee will be $219.
If you take it to a non-authorized repair place it may be cheaper but doing so will void your warranty
If you have apple care plus then the replacement fee will be $49 (last I knew) under the 'two instances of accidental damage replacement)
Call your local Apple store to be sure, but last I knew they don't replace parts as much as that fee is to exchange your damaged device for a replacement, so if you do it, be sure to back up your device before you take it in

  • How do I get my Windows 7 network to see my iPad mini?

  • [Help] How to wireless transfer data to an USB flash drive from an iPad mini 2

    Hi.
I want to use my iPad for my exams, but I'm not allowed to use the internet to send my files under the exams, so I need an alternative way to do it. I want to copy pages, numbers and keynote files to a wireless USB flash drive when I'm done. Do you know a product that can do it, that is also available in the Amazon UK?
    Thanks.

    Hi Loner,
    Thanks for the reply.
I have located the program and will give it a try.
    Cheers.

  • How can I download my Music From my icloud drive to my ipad mini?

I have uploaded my music as a zip file to my icloud.com drive from my pc, I don't how to put this music on my ipad without having to sync from my pc.

The Lyra is an mp3 player, so I went to the support article suggested by varjak paw (thank you) and tried to change the upload format to mp3.  I then tried to copy and paste (thanks roamingnome), but the tunes aren't showing up on the card.  I should also mention that I put the tunes in the folder with my other music on the mp3 player.  I didn't think they would play if they weren't in a folder.  As it is, the only tracks showing or playing are the ones I had before this purchase.  I know I am missing a step somewhere, but can't figure out what it is.  Am I making the copies of the tracks on my computer or in the store where my purchases show?  I probably didn't complete that process correctly as the copies aren't showing.  I only have one set of tunes.  Thanks so much for your help.  Maybe you can figure out what this technologically challenged music lover is doing wrong!

  • Using Time Machine to backup FROM a network drive

Can time machine be configured to backup files that are stored on a network drive? Drive is mounted via SMB.
    Thanks

although it is now capable of backing up TO a network device, there must be a work around.
It will back up to some network drives, but not reliably to one connected to your Airport Extreme, and possibly not your NAS, either. See #2, especially the pink box, in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Possible solution: mount a networked drive as a local volume so that as far as time machine is concerned, it is seen as a local drive. How could one accomplish this?
No such hack has been posted here, and it's doubtful there is one.

  • Can I Use a network drive to work with Mac and Windows?

Is it possible to introduce a network drive which can be accessed by both Mac and PC? I manipulate images in Photoshop on my Mac but the software I use to create slide shows is only available in PC format. This software is used more or less universally in the area of photography I am invo;ved with so changing is not an option. Can anyone advise me please.
    TC

Yes sure. Any NAS type drive formatted in any way will work. Both Mac OS X and Windows communicate by Ethernet Packets to a Networked drive and it is up to the NAS device OS to translate those Ethernet Packets to the format used on the drive.
Even if you are using a standard external drive connected to a Router or another computer, which is what a NAS is (A self contained computer with Operating System and hard drives), that router or NAS box does all the translating.

  • Network drive as a scratch disk?

Is it possible to use a network drive as a scratch disk? I have very little space left on my only internal drive and don't want to have to purchase a drive just to connect to my PC for a couple projects.
    Thanks!

    Noel,
I have never tried to use any of my networked drives for PS Scratch Disks, but have tried with various flavors of externals, and while they worked, my benchmarks showed that USB 2.0 and FW-400 (IEEE-1394a) to be horribly slow. It was not until I tested a FW-800 (IEEE-1394b), that the slowdown was minimized to the point that things worked OK. There was no USB 3.0, or eSATA, when I did those tests, so I had no benchmarks for those connections. In the case of my tests, I was using a laptop with a single SATA HDD, which was partially full. Directing my Scratch disk to that one internal (with the OS, programs, Images, etc.), was still about twice as fast as the USB 2.0, and 1.5x as fast as the FW-400. With the FW-800, it was about 1:1, with only fractions of a sec. different for the benchmarks.
Not exactly PS, but I tried to edit to/from my NAS in Premiere Pro, and while it worked, it was far to slow to allow me to actually use that setup. I did not do a benchmark, but just tried, and made observations, and quickly ruled that out, as a possibility.
Just some observations, though they do not apply to the exact question posed by the OP.

  • I know this is a common question - but is there a way to connect a USB pen drive to the iPad? (See details)

Basically, I just bought a Nexus 7 after growing impatient waiting for the iPad mini.  But the Nexus has a fault, and I'm taking it back next week.  I'm wondering whether to get my money back, or just get another - because it's a pretty good device!
My major big thing about it, is that I can plug a USB pen drive into it with a OTG cable and either just stream pictures, documents or movies - or save them to the Nexus for viewing without a dangly wire to annoy me.  It's great!  However, being an Apple fan - an iPad mini (if it comes out!) would be simpler, because it would sync to iCloud etc.  whereas obviously my Nexus 7 doesn't do this at all.  The only iCloud factor I can access is my mail.  Which isn't a problem, just a prefference.
So, with current iPads - is there a way, without jailbraking the device, to say stream movies to the device through a USB pen drive/external HDD, and save them to the iPad?
I've seen ways on YouTube but thought it was best to ask here.
If this was possible, I'd swap the Nexus for the iPad mini straight away - the Nexus 7 is fantastic!  No problem with it, if it wasn't for iCloud, I'd keep that.
Oh, and as a closing question on the iPad mini/Apple Maps - the Nexus 7 lets you download offline maps, and also you have a GPS which is used even when not on wifi - do you think this will be likely on an iPad mini? I can't see it myself.
It's a sad day for me, when I start to think Google may still have the upperhand on 7" tablets, even after the iPad mini is released.  I might even wait for the Second generation (if it exists!) - just because I for some reason never like first generation things from Apple.
But anyway, that's a lot of questions and info!
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, fair enough.  But since Job's death - Apple's control on leaks has been terrible.  I got the new iPhone, and I like it - but it hasn't made nearly as big as an impression as previous ones.  Because of the vast ammount of leaks.  With the iPad mini leaks, it's 99% sure to come out next week.
Apple uses many manufacturers and it's massive also websites prefer to report on Apple whether true or false because it brings more hits.
Amd by "others" I meant other people on iPads - not other devices/manufacturers.  It's possible to do so, I just want to know how.  I honestly don't think we'll ever be in a Post-PC era until all tablets allow us to use USB in the way computers do.
No, USB is not the future, you missed the memo about cloud and wireless computing?
