Is it possible to backup photos from IPHONE direct to a external Hard?

I would like to backup my photos within my iphones to an external hardrive directly, is this possible?

Some have succeeded in using a properly formatted flash drive as extra storage with an iPad, but haven't seen anything from a user succeeding with a hard drive.  iOS isn't really setup for that at this point, maybe someday if enough people give feedback.

    Yes.

  • Is it possible to do a direct transfer of photos from iphone 4s to ax external hard drive?

I would like to be able to free up space on an iphone 4s. Too many photos on there to be stored on icloud.  I was thinking of buying and external hard drive to store the photos onto.  Is it possible to do it directly without using a computer?  If so is one hard drive better than any other? Any replies in simple english, as I am not a tech savvy, would be very apprecitated.

In general, most external hard drives out there do not support what you need to do what you want.  I have read about a very few which support connecting to them via wifi, but I do not know if they will work for what you want.  The iPhone (or iPad for that matter) does not support transferring pictures other than via sync or via iCloud.  You may be able to get it to work using something ele, but it will be kludgy and might not work after the next iOS update.  THis is probably not what you are looking for in the long term.

What is the file system on that drive? Is it formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled)?
And what is your iPhoto version? iPhoto 9.5.1?
Some how I have trouble trying to drag my photos to my drive and it is not letting me to do so
What exactly happens when you try to drag photos to your drive? Are you dragging from iPhoto's window to the drive?
Can you export your photos, when you select the photos on iPhoto and use the command "File > Export"?

  • HT201302 how do i backup photos from iPhone 5 to iMac, if my iPhone won't turn on

how do i back up photos from iPhone 5 to iMac if my iPhone 5 will not turn on?

If your iPhone will not turn on, then it's too late to perform a backup.  Backups must occur before catastrophes, as they cannot occur after a catastrophe.
Of course, if you use Photo Stream or iCloud Photo Library, then your photos should already be on your Mac.

  • Backup photos from iphone to iphoto with face recognision

I recently changed my harddisk on my macbook pro, fresh installed os x, updated to mountain lion.
I know most ppl would say I can transfer my data from time-machine, which I could. But my previous disk was backedup from my old old mac, 5 years ago, there is a lot crap on it which I don't want, etc.
Anyway. so I have the new system, and installed ilife. Then here is an issue:
    - you can import all your photos from iphone to iphoto without problem,
    - but all the face recognition and locations(for each album) defined on my iphone are't imported
    So my questions is: how?
Also, it would be very handy if we can import apps from iphone to itunes? If you can, not sure how?

I think you are asking, "How do I transfer Iphoto albums to my MacBook?"
If so it will cost you. Ive been told by Apple Support that your iphone photos albums are merely a mirror of the original photos. It is not an extra copy or a back up.
You can get a third party software from http://www.ecamm.com
Its called "PhoneView" There is a free version and one for 19.99.
I ended up getting both. It sure beats email all those cropped photos I put in albums to myself.
That would have taken forever so the 19.99 is worth it. Good Luck!

  • Can I archive photos from my iPad2 to an external hard drive?

I need to archive an ever growing photo album direct to an external hard drive - is it possible - how can I do it without connecting to my iMac?

You can't connect an external hard drive to the iPad, you will need to go via your computer. (There are some wifi drives coming onto the market, but I think that they only support streaming/copying to the iPad, not from the iPad.)
To copy photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from email/websites to your computer then see this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
To copy back photos that were originally synced from a computer then you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (which has a free lite version called Simple Photo & Video Transfer) which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

  • Is it possible to recover photos from iPhone backup?

I bought an iPhone 5 and had to upgrade the OS on my Mac before I could sync with iTunes. I used the phone for a week before I was able to upgrade. After the upgrade I connected the phone to iTunes and restored from the last backup of my iPhone 3GS. All my apps, contacts, photos, songs, etc. restored perfectly to the new phone but I forgot to get the new photos out before the restore.
I think I already know the answer but is there anyway there's some sort of backup saved on my computer that will allow me to retrieve those new photos that I took before I restored the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 3GS. I never did a sync with iTunes. I just connected and clicked restore.
Did it magically backup what was on the phone before I restored? I can dream, can't I?

Thanks but with the free version i can see some files, but i have to pay hundred bucks for being able to restore???
And i am not sure if it is those one :-(
Anyway thank you for your quick answer
    Daniel

  • How to backup photo from iphone 4 to new computer..

    Hi there,
I had a macbook which is sync with my iphone 4..All my data is already sync to the iphone..
After that, i decided to sell my macbook and i purchased a new Computer..
And then i wanna backup all the photo from my Iphone to the new Computer..
    But the problem is ,
Is usually when we sync with the computer, All the data from New Computer will move to the Iphone , replace everything and all the photo from the Iphone will be gone??
    Or,
The photo from my iphone will transfer to that new computer ?
    Thx so much

I don't know about MacBook, but when I plug my iphone into my windows HP laptop a message pops up (part of AutoPlay).  It asks which action I would like to take.  I would open the folder (device) to view files.  Then you can locate any or all your photos from your device and manually import them to a file you create on your new computer.  In Itunes, do not select sync photos.  You are correct, this will import itunes photos back on your iphone.  If you do not get an autoplay message, you can locate your device by finding it through your drives (C is for your computer, F is for a DVD -- at least on mine).
    I hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to backup data from internal drive to the external?

I use the Time Capsule to Backup my MacBook Air. But what is about the Time Capsule itself?
I hoped it is easyly possible to use the external USB-Drive to do the backup for the time capsule.
This seemed to be not possible yet.
Is there a way to create a symbolic link on my MacBook an bring up the Time machine to make a backup from Time Capsule?
    Best regards sportingt

There is no backup in the TC.. it is unable to back itself up..
If you use 5.6 utility there is archive.. which is a full backup of the whole TC disk to the USB drive plugged into it.. there is no automation.. no incremental.. the whole disk or nothing.. manually initiated.. and it will knock your TC out of action for as long as it takes.. which is a long time.. USB drive is slow... half the speed of the same drive on your computer USB.
You can do it with a software backup program from the Mac itself.. that works with network drives.. so not TM.
And will be doubly slow as it copies files to the computer and back to the TC usb drive... it is 3x or more faster to backup to USB drive plugged into the computer..
TC as I keep repeating is a backup target for TM.. and is designed by apple with the absolute min of smarts required to do that and nothing more. It is not a NAS.. the most basic NAS includes automated backup.

  • How can I move photos from pictures to my Iomega external hard drive?  I have copied all photos, however it won't allow me to paste them.  The paste button is grayed out.

How can I move photos from pictures to my external hard drive? I have copied all photos, however it won't allow me to paste the photos.  The paste button is grayed out.

Do you want to copy some pictures to the external drive, or do you want to move your whole iPhoto library? The latter will free up hard drive space on your start up disk; the procedure is explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2506
Note this is not the same as a Time Machine backup.
If on the other hand you want to copy some photos from one drive to another, you can just drag and drop them from one location to another. This is a true copy, the originals will remain intact.

  • How do I download files from websites directly into my external hard drive without them saving into my internal hard drive?

I am a DJ and I download a lot of music from websites. My internal hard drive's space is almost full which in turn makes my macbook really slow. I bought an external hard drive to download everything onto it instead but it still downloads onto my internal hard drive. Please help me

Assuming you're using Safari, the default download folder is specified in Safari>Preferences>General. Go there and you'll see where Downloads is currently selected. Click on that, select Other, navigate to the directory you want to use and click Select.

  • Photos from iPhone direct to Drive?

I take hundreds of photos and videos while on vacation. Is there any way to get photos and video off of my phone (to make room for more) while on the road without my Macbook or using the internet/data transfer?

I'm think of something like or exactly like the Wi Drive. It says that it can transfer information to and from the device but I'd hoped there would be more of a thread on this.

  • I transferred photos from iphoto to a Seagate external hard drive and now I cant access the photos

When I plug in the hard drive to my macbook, I can see the iPhoto folder but it tells me that it is not accessible since Time Machine is running.
All I want to do is pull a few pictures off of the hard drive.  So frustrating!  Any help is greatly appreciated!

I tried turning ogg Time Machine but I am still unable to access any photos.  The actual message that I receive when I try opening iPhoto on the hard drive is 'You can't open the application iPhoto because it is in a Time Machine backup.'  Am I trying to open the wrong thing?  I have looked for photo files but didnt find any.  Thanks for your help!
