Is it possible to burn CDs on a Mac Mini attached to a new iMac?

I'd like to use my Mini essentially as an external backup drive, while also being able to utilise its superdrive as a CD/DVD burner. Is this possible? What is the optical connection? I no longer have a monitor for the Mini (which was running Mountain Lion).

    yes.
connect monitor #1 with the Mini DVI to DVI adapter (should have come with your Mini)
connect monitor #2 with the mini-displayport to DVI adapter (needs to be procured separately)

  • X Is it possible to burn CDs or DVDs using Remote Disk

When trying to burn photos from IPhoto to both my Windows 7 Pro and Macbook but I just get "no devices available for burning" although I can see my shared drives.  Any ideas or is it not possible to burn with Remote Disk?

Thanks shldr2thewheel,  Did read carefully and can access the remote disc on my windows PC to install programs or view files on MacBook Air BUT can't access the windows optical drive to Burn IPhoto file and I've even searched the support doc for "burn' and it doesn't appear even once.  So I still wonder if it is possible to do what I'm trying.  Also noted a number of other people with same/similar question on the forum under "More Like This" but can't find any definite yes or no.  Thank you for taking the time to reply

  • Problem Burning DVD-R with mac mini

Since I have my Mac mini (1.5 years) I haven't been able to burn a DVD-R once! Now I am almost out of space (7GB left) and need to backup. I am using Toast 6. It burns CDs fine. And it starts burning DVDs, but after 5 minutes it says "buffer underrun". Now I tried different settings, different DVD-R discs, burning it slow, and closing all applications. Nothing helps. I also tried getting rid of Toast 6 and just putting the DVD in, but then the computer doesn't recognize.
what else can I try? Wasting DVDs is becoming an expensive hobby
    please help.

I also tried getting rid of Toast 6 and just putting the DVD in, but then the computer doesn't recognize.
What, exactly, does happen when you put a blank DVD in your SuperDrive? What option do you have selected in the CDs & DVDs System Preference to happen when you do put a blank DVD in? Perhaps you should set it to "Open Finder" so you can try to burn a DVD with the Finder. It may be set to "Ignore" or even to open Toast - which, of course, it can't do if you've removed Toast.

P.S. Exactly which version of Mac OS X are you using? Your profile here says "Mac OS X 10.2.x" but all the Mac minis shipped with at least Mac OS X 10.3.x. You can find out if you select "About This Mac" under the blue Apple menu.

  • DVD Burner not working in Mac Mini

My mac mini (running OSX 10.7.5) all of a sudden stopped burning/reading DVDs, however CD burning and reading still works.
I ran my system's disk utility and corrected some problems and tried again to no avail. I tried a previously burned DVD which did not work either. However, after trying several DVDs, I got the burner to work (or at least it appeared to as it went thru the usual messages of recording my iDVD movie, but when the recording message showed DONE, the screen appeared to freeze there (typically, at this point, I usually get a message that asks if I want to burn another) --I was able to hit cancel to exit the program. Anyways, the DVD did not burn. At this point on the plus side, I can now read my previously burned DVD... so I tried again to burn my iDVD Movie again but it just spits out after 15-30 seconds.
I saw on some boards that I should try cleaning the burner? Do I have to take my system apart to do this? Do I use a cleaning disk? If this is the case, will my DVD acknowledge it if it isn't working? Or do I just spray compressed air into its slot?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is for a job that I need to get out.
    Thanks so much!

Yes use a CD/DVD cleaning disk

  • Cannot create DVD image or burn DVD on G4 Mac mini (error #-34502)

    Hello!
I'ts pretty strange... I've created some DVD projects with iDVD on my Mac mini (G4, 1.25 GHz, all system updates installed, extra internal DVD burner installed), but I'm not able to burn a DVD neither to save an image file with iDVD. I do always get an error message which includes this error id: #-34502.
However, burning DVDs with Toast or the Finder does work.
There is already a techdoc for this error code, but the described "solution" does not help on my projects. All content is within the tv save area, that cannot be the problem that I'm facing right now.
I've also tried to remove the iDVD caches from ~/Libray/Caches and I've removed the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences. None of these "tricks"
    did solve my problem.
iDVD does always render the content and when it starts to multiplex, this mystic error message appears and the process is stopped.
Does anybody else have an idea or a tip that might help?

The machine was working fine for more than a year. It was running EyeTV all of the time, cutting videos and archiving movies. No problem there ...
I know you're going to find this "unacceptable":
That doesn't mean anything when it comes to RAM and iDVD. iDVD will find any RAM quality weakness. Weakness that even RAM testing software won't find. I've seen it a lot here.
Apple (OEM), Micron (Crucial.com), and Samsung are highly regarded. I even saw a removed Micron solve an encoding problem. Hey, nothing is prefect.

  • Is it possible to remove "Contacts" from my Mac mini and the reinstall it?

Is it possible to remove "Contacts" from my Macmini and then reinstall it?

The Contacts program has changed the name of a contact that I had a correct email address.
The example you gave (now removed by a moderator) doesn't show that the email address changed. It shows that the recipient's name associated with the address changed. I don't know why that happened, but it doesn't necessarily indicate a problem with Contacts. You might have had two contacts with the same address.
I don't seem to have a Address button in my toolbar.
Open a message-editing window and select
    View ▹ Customize Toolbar...
from the menu bar. From the sheet that opens, drag the button labeled Address upward (not downward) into the toolbar if it's not already there, then click Done.
Click the button to see a list of your contacts. You can make multiple selections.

  • Is it possible to add memory to a Mac Mini?

That's the question. If I buy a Mac Mini and later discover that I need more memory, can it be added at that time? Can I do it myself?

Go with Crucial or Other World Computing. Kingston's works well on PCs but their record on Macs is spotty.

  • Possible solution for headphone problems with Mac Mini

A month or two ago, I posted a question about problems I was having with getting earphones and earbuds to work with my mid-2010 Mac Mini. I just wanted to share the (quite simple) solution that solved my problem.
My problem: I couldn't get any earphones or earbuds to work with my Mini, despite my trying several different sets. Finally I took my Mini into the local Apple store.
Solution: Though it was not stated in any Apple support literature or postings online, the solution was to push the mini-jack into the audio out port until the mini-jack clicked. I was just being too cautious. I was pushing the mini-jacks into the port (which were in the back of the Mini, so I couldn't get a good handle on what I was doing, since the Mini's back was facing away from me). I wrongly thought I'd pushed as far as the jack(s) should go. Not so. I should have pushed harder until there was a 'click' and the mini-jack was all the way in. Once that was done, no problem.
Chalk it up to my stupidity or to a lack of detail in Apple's support and help literature, but that was the solution.  I hope this helps others with similar audio out issues.

Thanks for the response but I think maybe you missed part of my post.  The keyboard works fine with my mac book and with my son's macbook.  The keyboard is actually working right now.  It has been a problem with shut down and then strart up.  I think that I went through all those other SMC and PRAM efforts with Apple support and actually many others and they were completely stumped.  I think that this is a complicated problem for which there may only be a work around but I am hopeful that the next time I shut down, it will work.  I appreciate ideas but if my 4 or 5 hours with Apple support cannot help, I do not believe this is going to be a simple solution but if someone has encountered this or something similar, I would welcome their ideas.  I have gone to the Apple Store in Madison, WI on several occasions and unfortunately I often know more than the people that help me so I am reluctant to go there and to trust the staff at the genius bar.    For example, I recently purchased and Apple watch and the first person that helped me did not know how to turn it on and the second person did not know it came with two different length bands, and I once bought a case for my iphone and the person who helped me was more interested in the color than in the functionality of the case.  I could go on but I am not confident in the competence of the staff there so I am hoping that someone in the support community can help me.

  • OS Lion reading old burned CDs as Blank

I am going through some burned CDs and attempting to copy them to my new iMac, but each one is being read as a Blank CD. Regular factory audio CDs seem to work fine. Any type of home burned CD is being read as blank. Any insight on how to fix this would be appreciated, thanks.

How old are these CDs?  Burned CDs can go 'bad", especially if done onto inexpensive media.  I wouldn't expect that kind of failure rate though.  Still, if the drive reads regular media it isn't the drive as such.  I guess it could be the drive doesn't like your older CDs (it isn't a case of software), but usually it happened that old drives could not read  burned CDs and not new drives not being able to read older burned CDs.
Are these audio CDs and do they play on another audio player?

  • Itunes drivers missing for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing

    Hello,
I have been dealing with the following problem for a couple days now, I have searched all over the internet, talked to friends and even Apple tech support but the problem has not been solved.
Whenever I access itunes, I get the following warning: "The registry settings used by the itunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other burning software. Please reinstall itunes."
I have now reinstalled itunes several times and completely removed then reinstalled as instructed, but the message continues to appear and itunes will not allow me to burn cds. Tech support advised to create a new user account on my computer which I did, it seemed to work but all I can do is import music. I cannot burn any. All my settings and playlists aren't on this account. But, are on my other one where the first message appeared.
Can anyone help? Please. I have struggled with this and cannot figure out what else to do except reset my computer to its factory setting, but would really like to avoid doing so. Please help.
I have a new HP computer running Windows Vista, I have never experienced any problems with itunes until now. I bought a new 120GB ipod in November and it works fine. Oh, I have gotten rid of Nero which was installed when this problem first occurred.
    Thank you.

Hmm. "iTunes registry error Vista fix burning and importing issues". play around with the search words till you find something relevant. Not sure, but following is something that might help. I am not a vista user so I can't help much. Good luck.

*But be warned that messing with registry might be fatal to your current OS intallation. So think all the way through before you do anything. I think you can keep a back of the registry so if something goes wrong you can restore it, but thats in XP, not sure about vista.*

  • Can't burn CDs; used to be able

    Just up-dated to iTunes 10.
Before the up-date, could burn CDs just fine.
Now, I create my new playlist, insert the same kind of CD I used a few days before up-date, and I get the message:
disc burner or software not found
And it lists a Mashita DVD burner. (I didn't notice if this was listed previously.)
    Suggestions? Help! Thank you.

I think I fixed it...I went under My Computer, then right clicked on the cd drive that I used to burn, go to properties, went under the auto play tab, selected the action to perform button for each individual category(dvd, blank cd, music cd) selected the no action icon for each category. Then went to the recording tab and unselected the enable recording selection. Now I can burn every time! If this fixes it for anyone else let me know!

  • Trying to open image CD burned on pc in Mac OSX

I burned several image CD's, (using roxio I think), on my Dell before getting rid of it. I'm trying to open these CDs using OSX. When I insert the CDs in my Mac mini, they aren't recognized on the desktop. I've explored Disk Utilities, where the CD is recognized, but can't seem to make anything open the CD.
I do have Roxio toast lite, but can't seem to use this application to open the CDs.
Is there a third party program that I can use to view these images? Does Roxio have a program that I can use? If so, is there a shareware source where I can get it?
    Any info. is greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you burned the CDs on the PC in a non-standard, Windows-only format. See if you can open them on another Windows PC to make sure there is nothing wrong with the CDs themselves. Then maybe you could try burning them in a standard cross-platform format like ISO 9660.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
