  • Changing your username... is it possible?

    is it possible to change your username for the apple discussions? i know it's not a big deal, but mine's boring... and lars isn't even my name
    haha

    Hi Not Really lars322!
    Although you can't change the Alias of the account you are using, you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
    You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
    You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
    But your Level(2), Points(330), Total Posts(360), Total Posts Online(86) and Registered Date(3/9/05), will not be transferred.
    In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
    Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
    After you quit using the old account, those posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 1 to 3 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
    The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
    If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
    Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
    Restrict by Date Range: All
    Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
    all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
    To create a new account,
    Log out of Discussions. You also may have to delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences, but I'm not sure this is necessary. Then follow either of these instructions.
    -How Do I Create My Account?
    If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
    -To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple ID FAQ page.
    Those instructions, and more info, can also be viewed by clicking on ?Help & Terms of Use, in the right column of Discussions pages.
    Good Luck By Any Name!

  • I would like to change my username

    Well, 'reb', that's my initials. For initials they're not that bad, but it's not cool to have initials as a username. By the way, in mailing lists, irc and aur I always call myself filoktetes.
    I'm not one to post every half hour, but I do post occationally, when I think I have something useful to say. So, I think it would be nice to have the same name everywhere.
    Would it be possible to change my username from 'reb' to 'filoktetes'?

    I thought it would be right to do it publicly, or else someone will wonder about this new guy at the forum, who's already posted, well at least 70 times, and has been lurking around unnoticed since 2003.
    And there's this very unlikely chance that someone will remember that 'reb' had some useful thigs to say about, oh perhaps midi or something, once in 2004, and now, if I'm lucky enough to get my wish granted, this thread will be the only reference to 'reb' at all in this forum.
    I think forum name changing is something that shouldn't happen too much, by the way, it would be confusing. I think your name change was very pleasant, dtw, since I have a tendency to move my tounge every time I read a difficult name...And I think it's a good thing to change my name, so that I'll be seen as one person throughout all the Arch Linux areas.
    I'll pm you now, dtw

    I think that on linuxquestions.com can change your username without problem and it looks like there is a way to do so.
    Different forum software - different rules. SMF makes the change possible if admin allows it. If You say that linuxquestions.org allows it then vBulletin software makes it possible too. Not sure about phpBB or FluxBB (which is what powers the ArchLinux forum). Maybe there is an option but admins disallow it. I cannot blame them - it can create a loads of mess if users keep changing their nicknames. If You allow one of them to change it - then You should allow all of them to change it. This can start a mess / chaos and makes finding posts / threads more difficult plus some other silly mishaps may occur.

  • Had my hard drive replaced and I've restored from TimeMachine backup. I have changed my username and now I can't access my old backups on my TimeMachine hard drive

    I've recently had my hard drive replaced in the Apple Store.
    I used time machine to backup and after I got my mac back with the new hard drive I restored all my files which are now on my computer and I can access it with no problems.
    The problem is that I've changed my username (admin) and when I enter time machine, I can't access the backups of my old hard drive which is really frustrating.
    A red negative sign appears on most folders. Also in macintosh HD/users there is a folder named with my old username and I get the same red negative sign in the folders.
    Any idea what can be done about this?
    If you need more info just ask.
    Thanks in advance

    Turn Time Machine OFF temporarily in its preference pane. Leave the window open.
    Navigate in the Finder to your backup disk, and then to the folder named "Backups.backupdb" at the top level of the volume. If you back up over a network, you'll first have to mount the disk image file containing your backups by double-clicking it. Descend into the folder until you see the snapshots, which are represented by folders with a name that begins with the date of the snapshot. Find the one you want to restore from. There's a link named "Latest" representing the most recent snapshot. Use that one, if possible. Otherwise, you'll have to remember the date of the snapshot you choose.
    Inside the snapshot folder is a folder hierarchy like the one on the source disk. Find one of the items you can't restore and select it. Open the Info dialog for the selected item. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you may see an entry in the access list that shows "Fetching…" in the Name column. If so, click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate. Then delete the "Fetching…" item from the icon list. Click the gear icon below the list and select Apply to enclosed items from the popup menu.
    Now you should be able either to copy the item in the Finder or to restore it in the time-travel view. If you use the time-travel view, be sure to select the snapshot you just modified. If successful, repeat the operation with the other items you were unable to restore. You can select multiple items in the Finder and open a single Info dialog for all of them by pressing the key combination option-command-I.
    When you're done, turn TM back ON and close its preference pane.

  • Possible to change the name of shared folders?

    I deleted the original shared public folder that looks like "User's Public Folder". When I went to add the Public Folder back it ends up being shared with the name "Public". Is it possible to change this name to something more descriptive? I have several Public folders being shared (several accounts on the computer) and having them all shared as Public makes it a bit hard to determine which account's Public folder you are looking at. Does anyone know how to change the name?

    Okay, after some searching around, I figured it out. Primarily I got most of it from here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6266526 , but I added something else to make it work better. The linked post mentioned that they got it to work so you can see "username's Public Folder" when someone file shared from another Mac, but in the Sharing Preference, it would still read as "Public". Well I managed to figure out how to fix that too. Bare with me.
    1) Make sure the Public folder in question is set up to be shared in the Sharing Preferences
    2) Go to System Preferences > Accounts
    3) Control Click the username in question and click Advance Options.
    4) Copy the data (the bunch of numbers & letters) from the UUID field. (you'll need it for later, save it to a txt file temporarily, you'll be overwriting your clipboard later)
    5) Close System Preferences
    6) From the Finder Menu click "Go" > "Go to Folder..." and enter this /var/db/dslocal/nodes
    7) Then do a "Get Info" on the "Default" folder and allow EVERYONE read+write access
    8) Do the same for the the following two folders, CONFIG and SHAREPOINTS
    9) "Get Info" on the "Public.plist" file and allow EVERYONE read+write access (BACKUP THIS FILE)
    10) Rename the "Public.plist" to "Username's Public Folder.plist"
    11) Open the file in a text editor and change every instance of "Public" with "username's Public Folder" (except for <string>/Users/USERNAME/Public</string>. Thats the actual folder location you don't want to change that.
    12) Now what you need to enter this
    <key>sharepointaccountuuid</key>
    <array>
    <string>NUMBER</string>
    </array>
    It goes between <key>name</key> & <key>sharepointgroupid</key> sections. It should look like the following:
    </array>
    <key>name</key>
    <array>
    <string>Username's Public Folder</string>
    </array>
    <key>sharepointaccountuuid</key>
    <array>
    <string>NUMBER</string>
    </array>
    <key>sharepointgroupid</key>
    13) Now Paste the UUID number you got before where I have NUMBER written above. Make sure the line spaces and indents match the other entries on the file.
    14) Save the file and change the permissions to your new "Username's Public Folder.plist" and the other folders you changed back to EVERYONE "no access".
    15) Now the link said to restart File Sharing. I decided to reboot for good measure.
    Once done you should see "Username's Public Folder" in the Sharing Preferences and when other Macs try to file share.
    Works perfectly for me, and I hope that works for you too!

  • Is it possible to change my Administrator account name?

    I have just set up my account on my new Mac using my first, last and middle names, but have now decided I don't want the middle name included.
    I can't find any way to change it  .  .  .  is it possible?

  • May i know how to change my username ?

    May i know how to change my username ?

    If you're asking how to change your username here in the Apple Support Communities the answer is you can't. The software running this site doesn;t allow it. It is not even possible for a host to do it.
    If you asking about some other username then post back.

  • How is it possible to change licence information?

    Hello,
    We have a problem with licence information.
    The licences for "Suse Linux Enterprise Server full basic subscription" were ordered by an employer, which has left the job before the moment licence has arrived.
    Is it possible to change licence information to another person's name/email, as we have no clue about username/password the former employer has used.
    The company name on the licence should be the same as it is now.
    Thank you,
    Bartas

    Sure. You should be able to get a new name associated with the license. All you need to do is call Customer service,
    I think the correct phone number is:
    Customer Response Center
    800-529-3400

  • Change j2ee_admin username in add-in installation

    hi,
    is it possible to change the default administrator username from j2ee_admin to something else in a add-in installation? It is a NW2004s add-in installation.
    Thanks, for your help.
    best regards
    thomas

    Hi Viliana,
    i have changed the admin user like described in your first link. It looks quite good, the j2ee engine of the double stack is running, i can connect, the sld is running correctly. But i had a strange effect in the visual admin during the configuration of the sld data supplier, so i was wondering if the documentation is only for standalone java installations and then i was not sure if the admin user in a double stack system has to have the user name j2ee_admin.
    best regards

  • How can I change my username in the Gamecenter ?

    Does somebody know how to change the username in the gamecenter? My name appears on it and I would like to put something else as a username. Tks

    You must add the itunes redirect tag within the <channel> element of your feed. Its doubtful that a 3rd party app would support this tag, but its possible. If you have access to the actual xml file, you can add the redirect feed manually using any text editor.
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://yournewdomain.com/podcast.xml</itunes:new-feed-url>
    The itunes redirect tag simply tells iTunes users where your podcast has been moved to, and updates their local settings accordingly. The next time they visit your podcast, they will go directly to your new feed specified in the redirect tag.
    For non-iTunes users, the itunes redirect tag doesn't help. Thats where the 301 redirect comes in, however it is a bit complicated depending on the type of host your podcast is on. If you don't want to tackle the 301 redirect, keep reading.
    One method of updating non-iTunes users...if you can still post an episode to your old feed, then one option is to post a text file that directs people to your new feed. You could also post a brief audio clip stating the same thing. Leave this episode up for a couple of weeks and then kill your old feed.
    <item>
    <title>PODCAST UPDATE: Please Read!</title>
    <link>http://yournewdomain.com/newfeed.txt</link>
    <enclosure url='http://yournewdomain.com/newfeed.txt' type='text/plain' />
    </item>
