Is it possible to charge a Canon camera battery pack using a USB port?

bkroczak wrote:
Either is fine. I looked on ebay and battery pack chargers seem to be available to plug into USB ports. Until now my cameras only took regular batteries. I'm not sure if it will take an awful lot longer than charging at 110V but at least it's possible.
I'd be surprised if this effort pans out. The only Canon camera I've ever owned that could charge its own battery was a G-5. And I'm pretty sure it didn't do it through a USB port. It had, IIRC, a special charging port. and the charger itself ran on 110VAC.

  • Is it safe to charge an iPhone overnight using a USB port on a surge protector?

I just bought a new surge protector that has two USB ports built in. I know it is safe to charge an iPhone using the USB ports on a computer, and it is safe to charge an iPhone using the supplied power adapter. However, I have heard that the supplied power adapter (the brick) that comes with the phone automatically stops charging the iPhone when it reaches 100%. I normally leave my iPhone charging overnight. So my question is, would it be safe to charge my iPhone overnight via the built in USB port on my new surge protector? Or should i continue using the power adapter that it came with?
This is the surge protector i purchased.

Yes, it's safe. The phone is actually what stops the charging.

  • Capturing Video from a Camera that only has a USB port

I have read a number of posts from people who have been frustrated because they can not 'capture' video from a video camera that only has a USB port on it.  Unfortunately, Premier wants to see a Firewire connection; otherwise, it won't connect to a camera.   However, it is still very easy to import your video clips from such a camera into Premier Pro:
    1. Turn on your video camera and connect it to your computer via the USB connections.
    2. In Premier, go to the Media Browser.
    3. In the Media Browser, you will see all the drives on your computer. Amongst those drives will be a drive that was created for your camera. (It will be identified as X: (Removable).  Double click on that drive and you will see all your recorded video clips in the column just to the right.
    4. Highlight any/all clips that you want to import. Then, simply drag those clips/files up into your Project Organizer (normally, in the upper left corner of the page)
    That's it.
You'll probably find this method of importing your clips/files off of your camera easier than if you did have a Firewire and utilized the 'Capture' function.

And a bigger problem will be that that camera (with its card or HDD) will have to be connected, whenever one wishes to edit, and it cannot be overwritten to).
As has been mentioned, the Project file does NOT contain any Assets, with the exception of Titles created in PrPro's Titler. This ARTICLE will give a bit more background on what is in the Project file, plus a bit more.
The same sort of problem can arise if one Imports a VOB from a DVD-Video disc, without Copying the VOB's over to the HDD. First, that DVD must be inserted for each editing session, and things will be horribly slow.
    Good luck,

  • Is it safe to use the USB port in my car to charge my iPhone 5s or do I need to buy a car charger?

Is it safe to use the USB port in my car to charge my iPhone 5s or do I need to buy a car charger?

Check car manual to see if it supports charging ,some do not
or use a USB 12 volt plug in for the "cigarrette lighter" socket and plug into that ,probably a better solution

  • "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" Maverick issue!

Ever since we updated to mavericks our deployment of 60 iPad's flashes "iPad not charging Connect to a power adapter or a USB port on this mac to charge" on the screen every time one is plugged in. It is a false alarm because the iPad does in fact trickle charge and it does update the device like it is supposed to. At this point it's more of an annoyance then an actual problem. However I would like it to stop popping up every time one is plugged in.
Does anybody have any ideas to stop it?

Your computer USB port typically provides only 2.5W of power. iPads require 10-12W of charging power. That's why you get the "Not Charging" message. However, the iPad is charging, but much slower. There's no way to stop it.

  • Is the wall charger better for the battery then using the computer?

I was looking for things for my Shuffle to add to my Christmas list when I came across this in the Apple Store. Someones review said that this item is better for the battery as when you plug it into a computer it drains the battery, then recharges it. As to this iten which charges the empty space only and does not drain the battery before recharging. Is this true? I will give points to those who can answer.

Apparently it makes no difference to the life of the battery how or how often you charge it.
I charge mine in a USB port on the external speakers I bought (iSound) and a full charge takes about 3 hours. - this is about the same as just plugging it into your USB port on your PC.
(I tend to just top up the charge after a couple of uses)
I just find it more convenient to be able to charge it without having to power up the PC everytime.

Not normal. Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • I just bought a new portable battery. It uses 2 USB ports to charge devices, a 1 amp port and a 2 amp port. My question is which port do I plug my iPhone 5s into and which do I use for my iPad 2?

It's a 10,000 mAh external battery. I got this for traveling and because I go to disneyland a lot. My phone wont last all day there and unlike some people, I would never plug my phone into their outlets (I watched a girls phone spark and practically melt once), their voltage is way too high. I have other batteries, but when I saw that this one can charge the 5s fully 3-5 times, I new it was a must. Online, there were wonderful reviews about it and that it charges the 5s and the iPad 2 wonderfully. However when I opened the package and read the directions it listed that there were 2 USB ports, a 1 amp and a 2 amp and to match your device to the port. Now it's been a while since I've studied about volts, amps, etc. so the first thing I do is google it. I know that the iPhone 5s uses 1 amp and the iPad 2 uses 2 amps, and from what I read, you can use the iPad charger to charge the iPhone (which I didn't know there were conflicts about this, I've always used my iPad charger for my phone). There are a lot of articles with people going back and forth about charging techniques, but I want to make sure I'm not going to damage any of my devices if I plug it into the wrong port.
Any responses will be appreciated as this isn't an area where I am very knowledgeable! Thank you!!!

The iPhone and iPad draw whatever charging current they require. The iPad draws more.

  • Capturing Hi8: How do I do this if my camera has no Firewire or USB port?

  • Charging iPod abroad--can I plug into the USB port of a foreign computer?

I'm going to Guatemala and will be bringing my iPod touch. I expect that I'll be in internet cafes on a fairly regular basis. Is there any currency conversion problem if I charge my iPod off of the USB port in a foreign computer? Guatemala uses the same currency as the US, but I want to be sure it's safe...
    Thanks!

USB power output is standardized, you should have no trouble, just be sure not to sync with the machine if it has iTunes or you will remove all your music/videos.

  • W4 Windows tablet - any way to charge while also using the USB port?

I have an Acer W4 tablet with Windows 8 and I want to keep a USB printer and the USB charger attached to the tablet at the same time, but since it only has one USB port I cannot seem to make this work. I have tried an external, AC-powered USB hub which also charges attached USB devices, but it seems like the tablet won't charge when the USB port is in "host" mode, which it needs to be to talk to the printer. Anyone have a workaroud (hardware or software) for this problem? Thanks

I think the end of this thread:http://community.acer.com/t5/Windows-Tablets-and-Convertibles/how-to-charge-the-W4-820-tablet-while-data-transfer-is-going-on/m-p/271906/highlight/true#M11301has the most current info on it.  Not easy but theoretically can work.

  • Using both usb ports the macbook doesn't charge, is that normal?

Hi, as headline says I'm using both the usb ports of my macbook pro 13", with an external HD and an externat audio interface. The macbook is attached to the charger, but it's not charging (i guess it's using the power without charging). The Macbook it's not fully charged.
    thank you

And what happens if you disconnect everything from the USB ports? BTW, your charger will kick in when the battery charge falls below 94%.

  • My ipod will not charge will either a Memorex docking station or USB port on Windows based operating system. It did work at first but even after charging overnight I get a low battery warning and turn off.

I downloaded music from a Mac at my daughters house when I first got my Ipod several years ago and everything was fine. I continued to use a Memorex charging station (travel speaker). About 6 months ago it failed to charge on the docking station so I tried my USB port on my computer. It would not charge either but I also got a message saying I needed to reconfigure the Ipod to Windows (my operating system) but would loose all my data. Ouch! Any suggestions?

I would charge it for at least an hour (vice the two minutes you did) and then try resetting it. I am afraid that there may be internal damage that is causing the problem and repair is the ony option. Apple's prices are:

  • Is it possible to charge a 3rd generation i-pod using a PC?

I've tried doing this but can't seem to work it out, is there something you have to do like connect it through fire wire, or is it simply not possible with 3rd gen i-pods?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Yes, but you must install a firewire port (cost about 20-25 bucks). You can transfer music back & forth using USB, but USB won't charge your pod, it doesn't carry the precious juice.
