Is it possible to combine JQuery with Captivate?

Hi there,
I'm using Captivate version 6 on a Mac OSX 10. I am creating an elearning resource for a client and most of their staff will be accessing it via iPads and iPhones, so I want to publish it using HTML5. They'd like to add a couple of drag and drop tasks (they don't need to be assessed) but the only way I can see to do this is via the Infosemantics widget. I've bought this and used it for previous projects, and it works well as a drag and drop, but obviously doesn't work on an iPad with it being Flash based.
I've seen that I can create a drag and drop exercise using JQuery, but then I don't know how I can combine this with Captivate to make one seamless presentation. Once the HTML5 has been published is there a way of bringing other HTML pages into it? Or could javascript be used within Captivate?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi All,
I have a Mp4 file and a corresponding SRT file that I wish to combine and then wach through AppleTv3. I have handbrake as my tool for preparing video for the appleTV (through Itunes).
I've tried to "add External SRT" but I can't seem to get teh "Burned in" button to accept a click - maybe this is not needed anyway. I don't care if the subtitles are permanently on the screen - it's in danish so I will never watch it without the subtitles on.
Any help appreciated.

Is there any possibility to combine XPath with SAX in Java?

HI Gentlemen,
I have an XML instance to parse. One solution works with XPath and Document builder. However, the tree in memory is too big so that I can not build it in my storage (8 GB). Does anyone of you know a method where I use an XPath expression (Java) to select a node but with a better parser (e g SAX) which is not so space hungry? Direct access of nodes is obligatory.

As SAX parsers do not build a DOM structure and XPath requires a DOM structure to select elements from, XPath is not usable with SAX, but some analysers support setting the XPath expressions to analyse before invoking the SAX parser and provide the result for XPath expressions.

Can the Adobe Photoshop Layer Support with Captivate 4 be use to show a Zoom & Pan Effect?

I'm working with a client that is interested in creating the "Zoom & Pan" effect you get with Camtasia using Captivate 4. I'm not finding enough information to support that this is possible with Captivate 4. The Photoshop Layer Support feature with Captivate 4 comes across as something that may work to some degree however, it is again unclear if it would definitely work to give the zoom & pan effect I am looking for. Would anyone mind explaining this feature in greater detail and/or offering any ideas for how I can show the zoom & pan effect in Captivate 4?

NOTHING in Captivate will achieve what you are seeing in Camtasia. Sorry, there simply is no comparison. Sure, Captivate has panning while recording, but what you end up with are several herky jerky snapshots of suddenly being in a different screen area. Sort of reminds me of walking through a room while slowly closing and opening your eyes. In other words, you are seeing version 1 of the panning feature. We hope it improves, but it's not there yet.
If you have Camtasia, you could combine it with Captivate for some nice and interesting effects and have the best of both worlds! I do that.

Is it possible to combine a address list with a Pages document and a data base in Numbers, the equivalent of "Mail Merge" using Microsoft?

It is possible in Pages 09 and Numbers 09 but not in the versions you name.

Group quizzes possible with Captivate?

Hi - I was wondering if a 'Captivate' (or other Adobe
eLearning software) is capable of producing a quiz where a
classroom of students could each take the quiz simultaneously on
their own laptops.
What I'm going for is something similar to the 'buzztime'
trivia games you see in sports bars (see buzztime.com). Instead of
the little 'playmaker' consoles student would use their own laptops
and communicate via wireless internet. The application would
present questions and keep score.
It's not clear to me from the captivate specs whether this
type of real-time group collaboration would be possible.

Welcome to our community, Larry
While it's true that many may interact with a Captivate quiz
at the same time, what you are looking for cannot happen with
Captivate.
Perhaps it will help to think of Captivate output as you
would a simple web page. The server sends the page to the user and
hundreds or thousands of users may all be viewing the page
simultaneously. But they typically cannot interact with one
another.
There are a few eLearning folks that visit here on a regular
basis. Perhaps one of them will pop in to suggest a product that
works in that manner.

Problems with Captivate Redirects, possibly Flash Security and XML

Hello fellow Captivarians,
First a little backstory, earlier in the year we developed a course that heavily used external image files, which were gathered and organised through an XML file, then placed into Captivate 4 through a widget. This was all developed in Actionscript 3 and was designed to be accessed locally, on the user's computer from a CD Drive.
We had a whole deal of issues with Captivate and Flash security issues, finding that we could not get the importing to work correctly in Internet Explorer as it outright refused to import the XML file (Presumably because of security issues). However, Firefox would work fine. Eventually we got it working via a bandaid solution by prepackaging the course with a firefox portable install.
Now many months later, we have discovered our previous solution still works, but it now outright denies any redirects from HTML page to HTML page, regardless if the content is on the CD or if it's on the harddrive. Buttons that link to external sources will not work, (even if it's just a local page in the same directory).Flash player simply refuses to redirect between HTML pages. We tried some older projects that were developed in AS2 - and this wasn't an issue.
The odd thing is however, on my computer it still works fine. However, on everyone elses in our office, it will not redirect at all. We are all running the same version of Flash Player, and the same version of Firefox...
Any ideas? Could it have been a recent update with the Flash Player that prevents this sort of interaction?

If this will be on CD-ROM or DVD, you may need to consider adding a light version of a Web Server to the media and launching via that.

Using wild card with Captivate 5 ( fill in the blank)

I am training software package that requires many fill in the blanks besides the login screeen. If I were to recording the actions using Captivate 5 record, I think, I can only use a demonstration recording as oppsed to having my students interact with the product by filling in the blank. For example, my product asks for a login. When I login to demonstrate how it should be done, the product reponds correctly. By my student is limited to watching as opposed to interacting. While login is not such a big deal, there are several other areas where the same concept applies. Ideally, I wish to use wild cards in fill in the blank so that any name or information can be used to interact with Captivate and move the slide along. Is this possible, and if so, how?

I think Lilybiri may be misinterpreting your use of the term "wildcards" to mean using them in the programming sense.
Perhaps you are referring to the characters that appear in a typical Password field to hide what the user is actually typing?
If so, the text field object in Captivate has an option to use these password characters so that the user's typing characters are hidden. The characters used are asterisks, which are what some people refer to as wildcard characters.

Is it possible to Combine photostream in iphoto?

It woud be great if It is possible to combine more single photostreams into one iPhoto application.
My wife and daughter have each their own iCloud account. But we would like That The photos come together in iPhoto without syncing with My iMac.
Is this at the moment possible?

I agree, this would be a great addition to iPhoto, for it to support multiple photo streams. Currently my work around is to have my iCloud account be the primary on my wife's iPhone with all features turned off excluding Photo Stream, and then her account is an additional iCloud/email account with all features turned on (except Photo Stream).
One major downside to this is that all of her backups are going against my iCloud quota.
You should submit iPhoto Feedback to request this feature/enhancement.

Can Captivate Reviewer 2.0 be used with Captivate 4?

I've attempted to use Captivate Reviewer 2.0 with some CP4 projects and I get "wrong format" or "corrupt file messages".
Reviewer 1.0 works fine. Could my Reviewer 2.0 possibly be corrupt or is it only supposed to work with CP5?

Adobe are well known for creating things that are only forward compatible. So I'd be shocked to find that Reviewer 2 works just dandy with Captivate 4.

Possible to combine photo libraries?

Presumably as a result of setting up my iMac and using it before running Migration Asst. to transfer files from an old G4, I ended up with two photo libraries. I intend to erase my hard drive for other reasons. I believe I have all data folders copied onto an external hard drive and the photo libraries are separately copied. I also have Time Machine back-ups on a separate EHD but don't want to use that since I intend to start clean.
Is it possible to combine the photo libraries by carrying them in from the EHD to the "clean" hard drive? If so, what steps should be followed?
My apologies if this has been addressed before and I just didn't find the answer. A link to the answer would be welcome if it has been addressed.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You can merge iPhoto Libraries using the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager. It's the only way to do this.

Combine Analysis with Design Studio

Greetings,
I know it's possible to export an Analsys Application from Analysis for OLAP. You can then open it in Design Studio to edit it.
However, is it possible to "embed" an analysis in Design Studio?
We would like to be able to swap the axis, drilldown, change the members, etc. and combine it with Design Studio layouts.
If not, is there anything on the roadmap? This is preventing us to move from Bex WAD 3.x...

with Design Studio and the scripting you are able to add so much functionality within your dashboards that I don't see that big gap between these two applications.
For exampe: You can add a filter panel where you are not only able to set filter but additionaly chose which measures should be displayed and whether they will be added as columm or row.
So it is possible within Design Studio to swap axis, change the members and do (little) drilldown.
But for drilldown-functionality you will have to use scripting and it is indeed still not as good as in Analysis. So one of my wishes for a future release is to enhance the drilldown-functionality (without much scripting or using multiple data sources) like in Analysis.
But you are right, DS is a tool to consume the data, many of these functionalities to analyse data have to be scripted which is some effort for each dashboard and every used query.
Some more integrated analysis functionality would be great.
(Maybe a better solution than to "embed" an anaylisis?)
Nevertheless I would like to see some export/switch function to open a query in Analysis (for Office), too. You are able to integrate links to an external URL so why Design Studio is not able to add a link to the Analyis-Application?
I know that some customers want to see their data in Excel, they would really appreciate the possibility to press a button to jump directly to Analysis for further survey of their data.

With all of the applications available, what other applications recommended to use along with Captivate 8. I do not heed to install all of them, just what I need.

Personally I use both Photoshop and Audition (both in CC) a lot when using Captivate 8. There is roundtripping possible with those two Adobe applications. If you have a CC subscription try it out! And when needing HTML5 output, you can insert published Edge Animate files, to replace former Flash animations. As you can see in CP8, Edge Inspect can be used to test the output on mobile devices without having to publish or to deploy on a webserver.

I had a SDN account and now I got my OSS account.when I want to go to http://sdn.sap.com and I will login this forum with my OSS account automatically. It seems it is because of my setting of SAP Passport in my OSS profile. It is not so convenient when I want to check/manage my threads, which were posted by my SDN account. So I want to know it is possible to combine my SDN account into my OSS account. (for example, accredit all my SDN thread into the name of my OSS account, or link my oss account to SDN account, etc).

Hi Duffymo - thanks for responding. It's fun to discuss this with somebody; I don't usually get many reasonable/friendly responses on the Hibernate user forum.
What I mean by transaction based identity is thatin
the normal, recommended Hibernate process (one
session per transaction), objects fetched in
different transactions do not == each other. Solet's
say I do the following:
* Start session 1 and transaction 1, fetch object
with primary key 5, and store it in variable obj1.
Commit transaction 1 and close session 1.
* Start session 2 and transaction 2, fetch object
with primary key 5, and store it in variable obj2.
Commit transaction 2 and close session 2.
* At this point, even though they represent thesame
row in the database, obj1 != obj2. I'll assume you mean !obj1.equals(obj2)here, because [obj1 != obj2[/code] even without
Hibernate if the two references point to different
locations in memory in the same JVM. The equals
method can be overridden. You can decide to check
equality only examining the primary keys, or you can
do a field by field comparison. If the class checks
equality on a field by field basis, the only way
they'll not be equal is if you change values.I really do mean == in this case. If those two fetches happened within the same session, Hibernate would return the identical object from it's cache. Here's some pseudo-code illustrating what I mean:
Session firstSession = sessionFactory.openSession(); //Start an empty session
Transaction tx1 = firstSession.beginTransaction();
Object obj1 = firstSession.get( Person.class, new Long(5) ); //Fetches row 5 from the database

It sounds like you want an Observer pattern, where
every client would deal with a single model and
changes are broadcast to every registered Observer.
That's just classic MVC, right? In that case, every
y client might have an individual view, but they're
all dealing with the same model. Changes by one is
reflected in all the other views in real time.That would be awesome, but doesn't seem feasible. Our Swing clients are spread all around the world, and creating a distributed event notification system that keeps them all in sync with each other sounds very fun but extremely out of scope for this project. We're trying to make Hibernate manage the object freshness so that our Swing application clients may slowly become out of date, but when we trigger certain actions on the client (like a user query, or the user clicking a 'refresh' button) they refresh portions of their data model from the central shared database.

The problem that I'm running into is that Hibernate does not seem structured in a way that lets me selectively update the state of my in-memory objects from the database to reflect changes that other users have made.

the problem is the same.You're right, I have used JDBC, in fact we wrote a JDBC driver for FileMaker Pro so I'm pretty familiar with it. What I meant is that I've never tried using raw JDBC within a Swing application to manage my object persistence.
I have not used TopLink and I haven't heard much about it, but I did see some tidbits on an Oracle discussion board comparing Hibernate with TopLink that made it sound like TopLink had better support for refreshing in-memory objects. Not having used TopLink myself, I can't say much else about what it's strengths/weaknesses are compared to Hibernate. It's not really an option for us anyway, because you have to pay a per-seat licensing charge, which would not work for this project.
I know almost nothing about JDO except that it sounds really cool, is pseudo-deprecated, and it's probably too late for us at this point to switch our project to use it even if we wanted to.
I don't think the problem is necessarily the
persistence; it's getting state changes broadcast to
the view in real time. It's as if you're writing a
stock trading app where changes have to be made
available to all users as they happen. Fair?Yes, I agree that the core issue is getting state changes broadcast to the view, but isn't that within the responsibility of the persistence management? How are we supposed to accomplish this with Hibernate?
