Is it possible to connect Apple TV to Marantz SR8001 via HDMI?

Video won't display, says there's no source. I updated my Apple TV software to the latest version, this setup was never tested through the previous version.
I'm using Apple's HDMI cable so that's not an issue.
The device connects directly to my TV's HDMI (1080p), so that's not an issue.
Optical out on the Apple TV to Optical in on my receiver works fine, so that's not an issue.
I have the correct input selected on the receiver, so that's not the problem.
The HDMI input on the reciever is functional for AUDIO (tested using component Y/Cb/Cr and HDMI from Blu-Ray DVD player), just not video from my Apple TV, but receiving audio/video directly from the Apple TV to the TV (bypassing the receiver) works perfectly.
So the HDMI cable works, the Optical Audio works through the receiver, but the video signal IN from the Apple TV (3rd gen) to the receiver via HDMI gets no signal detected. Is this due to the HDCP handshake not resolving properly? I can't even see the menus so I don't think that should interfere.
While I am capable of switching between multiple inputs and outputs, my goal is to channel all devices through the receiver (that's what receivers are for) to the Home Theater Audio (7.1 surround) and Video (TV). All my other devices work perfectly (even my old VCR upscales through the receiver). Watching old TV reruns through Netflix in 120hz is a little disconcerting (so clear it looks live action) but fun.
I notice the resolutions available on the Apple TV only goes up to 1080p 60hz. My TV can handle 120hz but that's not a game breaker.
Any solutions are appreciated. If I need to update or backdate my Apple TV/firmware/software or contact Marantz for a firmware update specific to Apple TV I suppose I can do those things. It's just irritating when I'm so used to my Apple products not being picky and complicated and suddenly something doesn't work.
Thanks!

The selected "best answer" was not helpful to me. The "reset HDMI" answer (the last one is different than the two before it), was helpful.
Also after resetting my HDMI sequence in the receiver (as per Marantz suggestion in the linked posted comment), I switched from Component Y/Cb/Cr output to HDMI output to TV.
All is fine now. Hope this answer helps someone else, otherwise I'd have just deleted my question.

That won't work with the iPad, unless maybe there's a "control monitor" app somewhere.

    Here's a quote from it
"The video itself looked fine when it played properly, but it stopped and started constantly, and often displayed with huge, ugly artifacts. And at times, the app would freeze completely and require a force quit.
Just to make sure it wasn’t a problem with one Blu-ray disc, I tried some others. With Hot Tub Time Machine the results were much, much worse. It got a few seconds into the United Artists logo before the movie and completely froze playback. On several attempts. With David Cronenberg’s The Fly, playback was generally better—but the software played the ‘making of’ movie instead of the actual film. I thought there might have been a preference to help with the movie selection, but—wait for it—the Preferences item didn’t do anything when I selected it."

  • Connect Macbook to Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI?

I am trying to connect my Macbook to a Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI, but are unable to get one to recognize the other. I am not sure what the problem is.
I have the following set up:
    - Macbook 13" (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2, 10.4.11)
    - Apple Mini DVI to DVI adopter
    - 15' DVI to HDMI cable (from monoprice.com, same cable recommended elsewhere in these forums)
    - Sony Bravia KDL46W3000, (Full HD 1920 x 1080 p)
The Sony tv does not seem to recognise the Mac is connected (and/or vise versa). The screen is just black. Yes, I have tried all 3 of the HDMI inputs on it, Yes, I have set the tv input setting to match the corresponding input jack. HDMI does work on the tv though, as I have a DVD player connected via HDMI and that works fine.
The Mac Display preference pane does not detect the tv/monitor being connected. I normally use another external LCD monitor with the Macbook via mini DVI to VGA adaptor without any problem. I have tried various solutions others have mentioned for similar problems I found in these forms, such as turning the tv off then on, rebooting the Macbook before connecting, etc. and every other combination.
An hour on the phone with Sony tech support did not get me anywhere closer other than they say the Mac should recognize the tv as an external monitor.
Has anyone with a very similar configuration managed to get this to work? Please note, I am well aware that many many people use HDTV's as a external monitor, but this is a Sony Bravia, not a LG, or Samsung, or anything else. Also, it is a Macbook, not a Powerbook or anything else. Also, I am trying to connect via HDMI, and not VGA.
Any tips or success stories would be appreciated.
    Thanks

I hooked my Sony .Bravia 40" up to my MacBook with no problem. From your description, it sounds like you may also have a bad DVI->HDMI cable. I'm using the stock Apple miniDVI adaptor mated to my DVI->HDMI cable.
I was going to go the route you took and use the VGA port on my Bravia, but thought it might limit me to "side" letterboxes since I thought VGA basically stood for 640x480 or 4X3 format. I'm surprised that you get 1920x1080 from a VGA cable. While your picture may be great, by definition I understand high to low video quality in order is...
HDMI/DVI, Component, s-video, VGA, and lastly, A/V cables.
My DVI->HDMI cable is a cheapie that I think I bought at Frys. This type of cable is probably getting harder to find as most stuff is straight HDMI now. Anyone thinking of getting a new flat screen should strongly remember to get one with at least 3 HDMI ports unless they are into cable switch-a-roo when connecting various devices. The stock devices today are cable/satellite, Blu-Ray/HD-DVD/DVD and one for the old Mac.

  • Image Cut Off - Q150 connected to a PAN 720p Plasma via HDMI

    Good Morning Everyone!
I have the same basic problem described on posting:
Q150 connected to TV - bottom of windows task bar is cut off

I have the Lenovo Q150 connected to a Panasonic 50" 720p Plasma via HDMI.  The image displayed from the PC Windows 7 desktop is cut off at the bottom.  Any ideas on what the setting needs to be for the Q150?  The Plasma TV?
    Thank you,
    Edwin

I had the same problem on a Sony 46" LCD and just kept fiddling with the settings until I got the task bar to show up. I don't remember having to change any settings on the TV itself. I was able to fix it using the the Q150's video settings.

  • How to connect Apple TV to Projector with no HDMI

I have a projector with S-video, rca, and vga connections but no HDMI.  I would like to get an apple tv and use airplay with my ipad 2.  Are there hdmi to rca or vga converters that will work well with Apple TV.  I've searched different things but it's just confusing me.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projectoe which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p or 480p.

  • How to connect apple tv to a TV without HDMI

I have an older HDTV that does not have HDMI. How do I connect the Apple TV. I know you can use a HDMI-DVI cable but what about sound? Any recommendations?

The big challenge, in addition to sound, is going to be HDCP. In order to minimize copyright infringement (copying) HDCP handshake via the HDMI connection is required. This is needed for Netflix, rented HD material etc. iTunes streaming will still work though.
Some have mentioned finding HDMI to component conversion boxes on eBay that work, but I have no experience in this area.

  • How do I connect Apple TV (3rd) to device without HDMI input?

I am trying to connect my Apple TV to an inFocus 70+ projector.  The project has a "computer input" jack which resembles a DVI connector but is really a M1-D connection. It also has an s-video input and a composite video input.
I purchased a HDMI to M1-D cable.  The picture is perfect; however, I cannot get any sound no matter was source I use (iPad, Apple TV, computer).
What alternatives do I have to output audio from the Apple TV to external speakers?
I like the Apple TV, but if I cannot get this to work, it really does not meet my needs.

Presumably this input has never been able to accept audio only video ?
If it is like DVI that would explain it as DVI is video only.
Not really the AppleTV at fault IMO.
You can take optical out from AppleTV and feed that to a home cinema amp or speakers with an optical input.  Alternatively for stereo get a cheap DAC and run the stereo feed to an amp/speakers.

  • I am having difficulty connecting apple tv to our network via ethernet cable.

I am trying to connect to an apple tv on our office network. It seems to pick up the network configuration but doesnt connect when I turn on home sharing. We have a proxy server for connections to the internet so I dont know whether this is the show stopper or something else like incorrect setting of date and time.  I thought I could set up and use the apple tv without a connection to the internet. Any advice would be appreciated. If an internet connection is absolutely necessary may be I could set up an Airport that talks to our proxy server.

COMPUTERS  SETTINGS means AppleTV is not accessing the Internet network.
By "changing the lead" I assume you mean you've made certain you are using a proven / known working Ethernet cable and you've also attempted, unsucessfully, to connect via WiFi ?
If those things are true it sounds like you need to consult the school network administrator for onsite assistance.
I ran into this problem once but did not have time to work through it. I will duplicate portions of your problem today to see if I can better resolve your question

  • Connecting apple tv to a receiver via optical cable

I connected my apple TV via a digital optical cable to the yamaha receiver RX-V477,but I have not figure out how to hear the music that is coming from the apple tv. Can you help me with the set-up in the yamaha receiver. Thanks

    Hey mgrossi,
The Apple TV's optical digital-audio port, also known as as TOSLINK, carries both audio and video signal when used with the proper cable. See this article for reference -

  • How to connect Apple TV to old TV (Not HDMI)?

    Dear all,
I would like to stream some content on my ipad towards a rather old TV that does not have an HDMI connector.  I thought that Apple TV could help here.
TV is a flatscreen Samsung bought around years 2008.
    thankx, lamberly

HDMI is the only supported method. There is no guarantee with any converter, even if it does work you will be unable to play protected content (i.e. iTunes, Netflix) and functionality could cease at any time.

make sure your ipad is not muted
make sure you volume is not all the way down
make sure audio play out of the ipad when not connected to the hdmi adapter
if you did and it don't work then it's likely an issue with the connetor
or the tv or it's settings

  • I need to connect my macbook to my tv via HDMI but im using windows vista

I bought the mini-dvi to dvi adapter and a 6' dvi to hdmi cable at the apple store today. but i cant seem to get the display up after connecting everything. I tried going to the display settings and activating the 2nd monitor, but that doesnt work and my tv keeps the "no input" display screen on.

not sure if this will work but i had a similar problem. first you may want to invest $20 into a mini-dvi to hdmi cable from onsale.com
2nd, after you hook it up...turn your laptop on and close your lid immediately. using your wireless keyboard start up your windows with bootcamp. what happens is once you close your lid immediately, it will detect the tv as the only moniter.
hope this helps. this solved my problem with using closed lid mode and bluetooth waking problems. let me know if this helps.
