Is it possible to connect MBP as a external disply from macbook air

I have both a macbook pro and air, my MBP is 15" and air 11"
i was wondering if its possible to use my MBP 15" as a external displly like "another/ seperate" monitor
i thought of two ways of possibly connecting them.
1, buying a thunderbolt cable and hooking them up and hopefully lworking
2. buy a thunderbolt-VGA, get a VGA cable, and VGA-mini disply port
not sure if theis would work but really want to use my MBP as a disply.
any answers? thanks

Due to the form factors, I wouldn't think it would be a good fit to use a 15" as a monitor even if it were possible.  You can get an bigger monitor that would work for around $100.  That  would be my solution if you wanted a bigger display from your 11" MBA.

How do i connect to an OHP (Overhead Projector) with MacBook Air? Is it possible? What leads would I need?
    Thanks.

Good question! The simple answer is, I haven't the foggiest idea. I will be going abroad, so don't know what kind of OHP i will have to use. I have a lead that connects with a tv (HDMI - I think). But am not sure about OHPs.

I recently updated my iPod touch to sync through iCloud - now can't connect to the internet through wifi, my macbook air is working as we speak. ive tried 'forgetting this network" in settings; tried turning off and on again; and pulling my hair out! The last was equally useless and a little painful!

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Pwer off and then back on yur router

I Wish to connect my 6 year old Apple 20" Cinema Display to an orignal MacBook Air which does not have a Fire-Wire port. Is this possible? Any advice would be appreciated. I have the Micro-DVI to DVI adapter. Norm

The FireWire cable is just for the FireWire ports on the display.  The display will run without it.

  • Difficulty in connecting external projector to Macbook Air

I have an external projector I'm connecting to my Macbook Air (OSX 10.7.2) via mini display port to VGA adapter.  With projector on and ad adapter plugged into the macbook air, I see the screen flash blue, but can't force the external dispaly to be recognized.  Under system preferences, displays, I am hitting detect displays, and still nothing.  I have gotten the plug-n-play capability to work before using the adapter, but even after system reboot, I can't get it to work.  Any suggestions?

    Hi vvarruunn,
In the display system preference pane, click the 'show displays in the menu bar'. This will put a monitor in your menu bar.. Can you see your external monitor listed here?

  • Can i connect a Samsung VGA/DVI monitor to macbook air?

I am looking to buy a Macbook air (13.3 inch).  Is there a cable available to connect the Macbook air to my old monitor (Samsung that only supports VGA and DVI)?  Eventually, I will buy a Thunderbolt display, but can't afford that yet.
    Thanks,

Certainly you can. Just about any Apple retailer will have a Thunderbolt/MDP-VGA or Thunderbolt/MDP-DVI adapter. Apple has them also available through the online Apple Store.

  • Connect a Bluetooth LE device to a Macbook Air

    Hello,
For the needs of a university project I have to connect my Macbook Air (mid 2013) to a Bluetooth LE device (an air pollution sensor). When looking for new devices my Mac cannot find this specific device and probably the reason is that it uses Bluetooth LE.
Do you know if a need some specific drivers or a special framework to connect to Bluetooth LE?

I have installed software similar to what I've been using for years to communicate with the same device hooked up on PCs. Even through that software I get the message that I can only connect with bluetooth, PDA, modem ect.
Is there some generic software or specific to the device you refer to? I've also installed this device on Mac's in the past, through the same software.

  • Cisco Anytime Connect VPN working from iMac but not from MacBook Air with same settings and wifi network

    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble connecting my new MacBook Air to Cisco Anytime Connect VPN.
The same configuration works with my iMac, in the same network and same Mac OS Mountain Lion on both computers.
After successfully connecting to VPN after a few seconds it gets disconnected and, what is worse, WIFI is not working any more in my macBook Air, I need to deactivate it and start again.
With iMac with the same settings it doesn't happen.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Did you power cycle the network? That's always the first thing you want to do if a device is "missing" or not connecting to your network correctly.
If you have not already tried this a few times, power down the entire network...all devices, order is not important.
Wait a few minutes and place the MBAir close to the TC
Start the modem first and let it run a few moments by itself. Then start the TC if it is the device connected to the modem and let it run a few moments. Then start each device one at a time the same way.

  • Connecting old HP 4050n to brand new Macbook Air

I have recently switched to a Macbook Air for use at home (1st Mac for me ).  I need to be able to print from this mac to an older HP 4050n Laserjet printer we have hooked up to our wireless router (Linksys WRT54G) via an ethernet cable.  In the old days on a windows based PC I was able to install the printer via a TCP/IP connection after getting the IP address from config menu on the laserjet.
So i follow the directions and some guidance from online forums and I can not get the Mac to recognize the Laserjet at all.  I downloaded and installed the latest driver for the printer from HP for OS 10.8.2 and still no luck seeing the printer.
What am I missing??? due I need additional hardware??  Please help this MACNOOB.  Thanks in advance for anyhelp you may have

You will need to remove the internal storage from that 2010-11 MBA, and put it in an external USB3 enclosure for use with a 2014 MBA. The assumption here is that the logic board failure did not corrupt the internal storage contents.

  • When sharing internet from macbook air, my phone connects to the internet but my Air cannot.

When trying to share internet to my phone from my macbook air on 10.9.4, my phone will be able to connect to the internet but my laptop won't be. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Please let me know if I need to provide any more information. Thanks!

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
    I hope I helped.

  • How to i connect to internet without wifi on my macbook air

    Hi
i have a MacBook Air and i am visiting with my parents who do not have WiFi ....
    how can i connect ?
as you know, there is no Ethernet Port on the MacBook Air
can i do this remotely through their PCs ?
    thanks

If they have PCs with wi-fi capability. Most/all Windows laptops will but many Windows desktops do not. The following instructions may help (both are for Windows 7 so you may have to search if that isn't what they have):

Another option is an ethernet adapter if you have time to obtain one:

  • Possible to connect firewire adapter and external monitor both?

For many years, I have been using my MacBook Pros with various Firewire audio devices, while also running an external monitor.
I'm considering getting a new MacBook Pro which obviously doesn't have a dedicated Firewire port.
Could I  connect both an external monitor and a Firewire adapter to its single Thunderbolt port?
This question has probably been asked many times, yet I can't find an answer anywhere...
    Thanks for any advice!

Aside form the dual Thunderbolt ports, you could look into one of the few Thunderbolt docks that are out.  I believe that a couple of them offer you 2 Thundebolt ports as well as the other ports.  This might solve your issue as well.
If I'm not mistaken, the newest MBP systems also come with an HDMI output port.
