Is it Possible to Convert 60i Footage to 24p?

I was wondering if it's possible to convert footage shot in 60i to 24p and if it'll look good.
Like, if I took 60i footage and put it out at 24 FPS in progressive scan through compressor, would it take out the correct frames? Or would it look all weird?
Just curious if it looks good and if there's a good way to do it.

Probably your best bet would be http://www.nattress.com and his standards converter. Moves 60i to 24.
Good luck,

  • 60i footage to 24p

Please understand that i am a rookie.
I have read other posts but i am a little confused. I am recording some footage in 24p, but it really records it in 60i. i=interlaced so the picture is not really progressive right? I am using a Canon HF S10.
So I log and transfer and it brings it in to FCP at ( 29.97/Apple Pro Res 422/Square Pix ) in its own clip. I did not see a way to change that.
I import to the new sequence, say yes to change settings. Changes to ( 1920x1080/HDTV 1080i (16x9)/Odd Field Dominace/29.97 Edit TimeBase/Apple ProRes 422).
I export with current settings. Open with quicktime and there is interlaced video. I export with Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) 1920x1080 24p, there are interlaced lines and in some areas looks worse.
My final plan is to record to Blu-Ray in 24p, and also export the best possible dvd.
What tricks do i need to do so that I get the 60i footage to 24p into Final Cut Pro for editing, and make sure i export that way?
Also i know that Apple Pro Res is awsome to work with, but it requires alot of space. What is the next down version that i could use that will still produce good quality DVDs.
    Thank you in advance....

Using the same Final Cut Pro system for both offline and online editing makes the process as simple and error-free as possible. The workflow when using the same system for both purposes is outlined below.

  • 60i footage into 24p sequence

    Hi,
I have 60i footage that I want to import into a 24p sequence. The scene was filmed in 60i specifically because I want to slow it down 50% in my premiere sequence and the 24p does not allow for good slow motion.
My concerns are how to do it, and how to (if necessary) de-interlace the 60i?
    Thanks!

  • Possible to convert video footage to slow motion?

Long story but I'm filming a short video in the style of the Intel TV ads (link below). Is there a way of converting footage I shoot into slow motion?
Have read discussion threads for other versions of iMovie, but not '08.
    Thanks for any advice.

Yes. This feature is built in to iMovie 09, but for iMovie 08, you must pre-process with an external app such as JES DeInterlacer.
If you do a search of this discussion, you will find some posts that link to Karsten Schluter's web site where he gives detailed instructions.

  • Best way to merge 4:3 60i footage with 24p 16:9 on timeline?

I've got footage shot off a Canon XL2 16:9 24pa and footage off a Sony Handycam shot in 4:3 60i. I'd like to get the Sony footage to sit on my timeline but take up the width of the widescreen instead of being a blocky square... Is there anyway to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    glenn

Your sort of going about it backwards. Assuming you dont want to finish anamorphic, You should work with a 4:3 timeline and cut your 16:9 footage into that timeline leaving it letterboxed. Then to match the look you should letterbox the 4:3 footage, assuming it was shot to compensate for that cropping. You could always reposition that footage vertically if that helps.

  • Editing 60i footage at 24p (slowing it down so it plays at 80% speed

    Hello,
So i need to cut a montage from 60i video that is going to go into a 24p timeline... I'd love to treat the footage as if it was shot at 24p (seperate the fields and slow it down 80%) so i could just cut it in and be done with it... any idea how to do this?

Well, the easiest way I can think of is to load the clip into Cinema Tools and resolve it to 23.98 fps. That just changes the frame rate. Separating the fields, BTW, won't do anything for you.

  • Is there another way (other than in Cinema Tools) to conform 60i footage to 24p?

I just upgraded to Lion and it killed Cinema Tools and I don't want to upgrade to FCPx yet. Please help! I need to make some slo-mo clips ASAP.

This is what digital signatures are all about. Not all signatures do this, but a properly set up one will use a time server maintained by a trusted party, and that time will be stored as an irrevocable proof.
If you didn't sign it, or the signature used the computer's clock - no.

  • Converting 60i to 24p

Does anyone know how to convert 60i footage to 24p so the cadence looks smooth? I'm working on a long project and loaned one of my EX1s out to someone who changed the settings and forgot to change them back. Now I have 1 day's worth of footage where one camera was set to 60i and the other to 24p. My project is 24p and the 60i footage (even when deinterlaced to 30p) looks jumpy. I've tried putting it directly into the timeline (FCP7) and a couple settings in compressor. All fix the interlacing issue but none the cadence.

First off, everything should be conveted to ProRes (LT or Regular is fine).
In Compressor, select the ProRes preset and duplicate it. This will create a new preset under "Custom" that you will change the settings.
Under the Video Tab, set the frame rate> 23.976, the field order> progressive and the Retimeing Quality > Best (Motion Compensated)
    Conversions will take a while.

  • Can FCE convert PF24 (24p @ 60i) into true 24p?

I am looking at purchasing a Canon HF-S100 which can shoot in 24p @ 60i. I use FCE 4. Is it possible to have FCE4 or some other program take this footage and convert it to true 24p? If not, can it be done with FC Pro? Thanks for the help!
    Brian

FCE does not support 24p media. You need FCS. You would need to completely decompressed the media into another format. Compressor can do it. At high quality it's a very slow process.

  • Can you Up-Convert SD footage to HD in Compressor? Question in 2 parts

Hi guys, this may sound silly but I have to ask if this is possible.
My question is in 2 parts!
    1. I have SD Footage, shot with XL2 at 60i and I am trying to achieve best picture quality to burn in DVDSP.
Can I up-convert it to HD in Compressor 3? If so, which preset would I use?
    2. If it is possible to up-convert SD footage to HD,
Can you still burn the up-converted HD video on a regular SD DVD in DVDSP if it fits on a single or dual layer disc?
    Thank you,
    Z

For starters, you can't make SD turn into HD. It's just not possible. Something was shot at a resolution of 720x480 which means it will never become 1280x720 or 1920x1280. That being said, there are hardware solutions called line doublers which can upscale for you, but those are expensive and not really what you even asked about so nevermind. Upscaling DVD players add pixels by interpolating info in between real pixels and adding what it think might go there. After this, filters are added to blend and soften and then some sharpening is added. I have seen DVD players that do a really nice job of this and others that don't.
Anyway, you can blow up your footage in compressor but not upscale as far as I know. The best quality footage however is going to be 720x480 since that is your source. This is especially true if you are playing back on an SD TV which only has a resolution of 720x480.
Did that help? I think I rambled a little.

  • Panasonic TM-700K 1080 60i Footage and Workflow

    Hey Everyone,
I have a new question for you guys that have a Panasonic TM-700K. I recorded a short film in the HA setting instead of using 1080 60p. I believed that I recorded it in 1080 60i mode and then imported into Final Cut Pro using the log and transfer protocol. I used the AVCHD 1080 60i easy setup, but when I tried dragging the files from the capture scratch window into the timeline I got a message that said something like Final Cut Pro needs to reformat your timeline for the proper frame rate and video setting. When I clicked yes I then looked at the video properties in the timeline and they were set to 29.97. Did I not record in 60 fps, and if I didn't, where do I change that setting in the camera? Or is it something with the log and transfer settings? Thanks for your help, I just want to be able to edit the timeline in 1080 60i using the properly formatted footage.

    Hi David,
I remember you from the other TM-700K discussion. So I am assuming that the video is supposed to play at 29.97 frames per second, but what easy setup option do you use to optimize the 1080 60i footage? I thought it meant 60 frames per second. When I used the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 easy set up option Final Cut Pro converted that setting when I dragged items from the capture scratch window into the timeline. Do you have a good workflow that works well for the 1080i60 footage and if so could you possibly post it? Thanks for your help.

  • Interpret 60i footage as 23.976p when Exporting

I'm using the Canon 41 camcorder as my "B" camera. My project settings are set for DSLR 23.976 which is what most of my footage is. The DSLR footage is shot in native 23.976 progressive and I'm exporting the final project as 23.976 progressive. My question is when I use the footage from my "B" that is interlaced, how will Premiere export it? I would guess that Premiere would convert the 60i footage to 23.976 when it exports the final footage? Is this correct? I don't understand how my final copy could switch back and forth. I'm confused...
This from the specs list from canon
    Frame Rate
    60i, 24p Progressive (records at 60i), 30p Progressive (records at 60i)
You can change the camcorder's frame capture rate to 24p (recorded at 60i), which provides the appearance of the same frame rate as movie film.
    Setup selection screen shot-
    Export settings screen shot-

So 'conforms', effectively means that it will turn my interlaced footage into progressive? I sure don't want those blasted interlace lines to show up when a quick pan is performed. Thank you for your reply Jim. Does anyone see a problem with what I am trying to do? From what Jim states all is good

  • Converting PAL footage to NTSC

I'm new to FCE and as I'm in the UK my work is PAL based. However, I've just filmed a wedding and one of the guests lives in the US. They'd like a copy and I want to find out how I could convert the footage over to NTSC.
Any advice? Is this possible in FCE?
I know that Final Cut Pro comes with Compressor 3 but this comes bundled.
Is there any other software out there?
    Thanks.

you can do it in final cut, i have done the other way ntsc to pal and sent videos to england and ireland.
You just need to adjust your export to proper frames, i think we are 29.5 frmaes/ sec and screen size
then when you open idvd set new projects for ntsc then open a new project. i think it has to be a new project.
it will work. i have done it. There is some help in the help menue of idvd i think, it gives you the proper #'s

  • Is it possible to convert an app from 12c to 11g?

    I am using both 11.1.2.4 and 12.1.2.0.
If I have an app built with 12.1.2.0, which does not include any 12c specific features, is it possible to convert it to 11.1.2.4?
I am asking because I have a Development environment that is 12c, but a Production environment that is 11g and I am not sure we will be able to upgrade the Production environment
    Thanks in advance..

It's possible but not an easy task. As 12c uses newer stuff you have to test everything with great care. You might find some things you have to rebuild add they won't work in 11.1.2.4.0 (e.g. components which are only available in 12c. If you read the what's new doc for 12c and you find something you have used, prepare to rebuild this part.
First thing to try ids to open the project in 11.1.2.4.0 and see if you can compile and run the app.
