Is it possible to convert a PDF to a high resolution image with ColdFusion?

I would like to determine how to convert PDFs to high resolution images using ColdFusion.
I'm running ColdFusion 9,0,0,251028 on CentOS 5.5 with Apache 2.2.3.
The <cfpdf action = "thumbnail" ...> is all well and good for creating 72 dpi images of a PDF, but I need to be able to create 300 dpi images of a PDF.
The PDFs in question have a much higher level of detail available than 72 dpi.
The related scale attribute for the action="thumbnail" functionality has an accepted range of 1 to 100, but an example of what I need is something more like a value of 415.
I should mention that I did try to use the jpgdpi attribute, and set it to 300 dpi . . . which produced a JPG that was indeed set to 300 dpi, but still had the same pixel dimensions as the 72 dpi image, so this did not affect the pdf to jpg conversion process in any way to make the image higher resolution.
Alternatively, would another possibility be to use ColdFusion to alter the dimensions of the pdf to be 415% of its original dimensions in memory, and then output a 100% thumbnail of that altered PDF? Is this possible? I can not for the life of me work out how to alter the set dimensions of a PDF via ColdFusion, in order to determine if this would have an affect on the size of the thumbnail produced.
Or more broadly, how would you use ColdFusion to convert a PDF to a (or a series of) high resolution images?
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Another idea:
Use a third party tool with CFEXECUTE if there's no other way. As you're on Linux you could easily run ghostscript on the command line to do it. gs lets you specify filetype as the device and also has options for resolution. For Windows there's gs as well (not sure though what it's command line capabilities are there) or tools like this: http://www.softinterface.com/Convert-PDF-To-Image/Convert-PDF-To-Tiff.htm

  • My goal: "convert into pdf" -- the file is instantly saved with the same name as pdf. feasible?

    Good evening dear experts,
i use Adobe Acrobat 9 pro extend to convert word, ppt, jepgs etc. into pdfs.
    No if i
    1) convert a ppt into a pdf: it asks --> "save as" --> converts --> opens the file
    2) convert a jpeg into a pdf: it instantly --> opens the file as pdf --> i need to save it manual under "save as"
In both cases i want to
my goal: "convert into pdf" --> the file is instantly saved with the same name as pdf
WITHOUT asking me "save as" + "opening of the file".
Is the possible, and if yes, HOW ?
A fast answer is very very much appreciated, for i have to convert hundreds of files tonight in order to get it into 1 pdf
    Thx and greetings from Germany,
    Julia

    We are nearly there!
A] - righclick "convert-to-method": @Bill: thx again, your approach worked for ppt, doc-files etc.
    2 problems:
    1) exception: for jpegs/bmps it doesn't work (the file is still opened after conversion, strange).
    2) the output-folder. it only accepts the standard "output-folder documents/*.pdf" (which is a step further but not my end-goal). If i choose another output-folder via "browse", this setting is NOT SAVED (even after clicking on "accept" + "ok").
my goal: the the file should be automatically saved in THE SAME folder the original file is in (seems that can't be achieved and the standard folder is the only thing where to convert in?).
Personal background for understanding: i have many folders with several ppts in it. Once i send it out to a customer, i always have to convert it into a pdf. thats why i want to save time (i know that i can convert it directly + send per mail, but i want an up-to-date copy of the pdf in the folder as well).
    B] - "the automated solution"- @Sandeep:
i just watched your link http://tv.adobe.com/watch/acrobat-tips-and-tricks/automating-tasks-in-acrobat/
about batch processing and i think its really helpful if i want to convert ALL of the files in one folder.
1 question regarding this: are the subfolders also affected?
As i understood from the video, i choose 1 "watched folder" and a "destination folder" (can be the same). E.g i have 1 big folder "designs" with many subfolders. I create a batch converting ppts to pdf to "the same folder" Once i run my batch, it converts ppts in the chosen folder "designs" + all subfolders into the same folder, right?
If this is the case, i get too many pdfs, for i only need the latest ppt-version to be converted (copies of old ppts are also in the files) ;(.
Do you have an idea how can i solve this?
Now we are very near to the end-solution of my goal:
i need this option "to the same folder" in my general settings when i convert a file via right-click. ATM it only works with the standard-folder documents/*.pdf
In A], my files are now instantly saved with the same name in 1 specific folder. I would be completely happy, if this folder would be alwys the same as the one with the original file (and not 1 specific folder)
2nd problem with a]: it does not apply to picture files (bmp, jpegs..)
So if we could solve this, i would be a completely happy girl
Guys, you are great, thx again for the whole struggle with my concerns!!

  • Converting a pdf document to a jpeg image C#

    HI There,
How can I convert a pdf document to a jpeg image using c sharp? I need to do this on a web application. If someone can help me out with some code that would be great.
    Sean - thanks in advance

The information provided by Aandi is unfortunately out of date. The Adobe PDF Library is obtained through Datalogics and has a JNI, Java, and .NET interface available. Additionally while the Adobe PDF Library with the .NET interface would provide the functionality you seek it is overkill.
PDF2IMG from Datalogics has a COM component available that can be accessed via C# to convert PDF to most image formats.

  • Is it possible to convert several pdf files (into Excel or Word) at the same time ?

I'd like to convert several pdf files (up to 500) into Excel at the same time. Is it possible ? How many files can Export PDF handle at the same time ?
Thanks a lot for your answers,
    Sylvain

    Hi, Sylvain.
This is a great idea! Currently, ExportPDF only can export 1 file at a time. (Acrobat can do a batch export using it's Action Wizard feature.)
I added your idea to our idea list: http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/1499. If you'd like to see us add this feature, please go vote or add comment to this Idea on the idea list.

  • Is possible to Convert a 1 bit B&W Tiff image to a 16 Bit Greyscale Tiff image?

    Hi there,
I am trying to convert a 1 bit Black & White Tiff image to a 16 Bit Greyscale Tiff image, Anyone out there know if it is possible and how it may be done? We are using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers, Chris

Almost any graphic editor can do it, but it doesn't make a sense. The picture information remain the same - 1 bit. It has nothing to do with Acrobat.

  • Is it possible to convert a pdf document to an editable format in pages ?

I have a 300 page document which is a pdf and rather than retype it in Pages, I would really like to know if there is a way to convert it so I can edit it in Pages.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks !

Then it sounds like perhaps your text is not in fact editable and you have just copied an image into pages.  Are you able to change any characters in the text?

I have many files that I need to convert for a client that are presently in .pdf format and the program that she has and wants to utilize only accepts .csv files- is there a way to do this? Do I have to convert all of the files to Excel and then convert to csv? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

we use a third party program "able2extract" this works great for converting pdf to excel (then save as CSV)

Varför kommer detta felmeddelande upp hela tiden då jag försöker konvertera till word "An error accured while trying to access the service"

    Hi,
Adobe Export Pdf supports conversion of Pdf files up to 100 MB.
May i know if your error is related to the file size or something else?
Is it happening with this file only or having the same problem with another file as well?
You can try with another browser.

  • Is it possible to build a "click to enlarge" option for images with Livecycle Designer?

Hello! I have built an audit form where the auditors report conditions and add photos by using an image field that when clicked, gives them a dialog box to choose a picture. The photos initially just load as a small image on the screen - a little bigger than a thumbnail and just large enough so you can see what they're talking about. However, I'd like to add an option that would allow the reader to click (or do something) which would enlarge or zoom the image, and then return to its initial smaller size.
I don't even know if it's possible and all my searching and reading hasn't come up with any solutions.  The best I can come up with as an alternative is to build some pages at the end of the audit report called "Photo Gallery" and use the global data option to sort of feed in whatever pictures are added into a larger image place on those gallery pages.  Not exactly what I was looking for, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
Thanks for any ideas you might send my way!
    Jan

    Hi Jan,
You could try having a custom dialog with a larger version of the image and then open the dialog when they click a button that covers the image on the form.
Here is an example. https://sites.google.com/site/livecycledesignercookbooks/home/ClickToEnlarge.pdf?attredire cts=0&d=1
The dialog code used in the example was generated using the method described here ... Adobe LiveCycle Designer Cookbooks by BR001: Using app.execDialog() in an Adobe Designer Form
If your pictures are big then you will need another way of storing the image data, which is currently just a big JavaScript string literal, you'll see what I mean in the example.

  • INDS CS6 - PDF Export at High Quality issues with Gradients.

    Hi all,
We're noticing that on our PDF exports from our INDS instances we're seeing that gradients are showing up when the PDF is printed. You can visibly see the gradient lines. We have our INDS set for 'High Quality Print' and upon viewing the PDF in your browser it looks fine but when you print the PDF you can see the gradient lines.
We've exported the same IDML's directly from InDesign to PDF to Print and the gradients do not show up.
Is there a ExportPDF option we are missing on the InDesign Server that I need to tweak to make these gradients smooth and disappear?

    Marvin,
The TIF file in this example consists of a repeating sequence of adjacent columns in the following configuration: 8 white pixel, 7 black pixels.
This pattern repeats across the width of the file.
I've attached one of these files below. Please try to view it at 4000% when placed in InDesign.
(Please note that this problem also occurs with photographic images as well).
If I then crop the attached file in Photoshop, re-save and place in InDesign it will preview correctly at 4000%.
If I leave it at its original dimensions, but convert to a Gray TIF, it will preview correctly -for a while, but eventually also become "corrupted". As I mentioned in my initial post, I've had to use a Grey TIF to get the placement correct, then replace with the CMYK TIF version. Saving with and without LZW compression makes no difference. The fact that the Grey version works temporarily has got me confused. As it happens, for the moment anyway, a narrow width file in CMYK is previewing okay, but then in the past I've used TIFs just ~100 mm wide and had the same problem.

  • Convert PDF into a High Res Graphic for Printing

    Hi there,
I have to convert a pdf into a high resolution graphic meant to be printed on a bulletin board about 300dpi. What is the best way to do this? Here is the link to the pdf to what i am referring to, just in case you want to get an idea of what i am working with:
    http://desmondhotelsalbany.com/pdf/FloorPlan.pdf
Would it be best to use Illustrator for vector quality, and use the pen tool to trace over into a new layer and save in 300dpi? Can I use a wand tool so that everything gets traced in a snap?
Now, I am a Photoshop boy and was wondering if this can be done using the pen and saving in a resolution of 300? The graphic isn't too intricate, basically black lines and text. So maybe Photoshop could work, even though not ideal. What do you think?
I really appreciate help, I am a web graphic designer and print is out of my element. Thanks!!

Apparently parts of the the file are already vector-based, so those only should require minor adjustments. The most obvious failure here is, that the contours are broken up in separate segments and thus have "dents and gaps". This will look rather ugly, but should be possible to fix with a little patience by joining the ends. Other parts will most definitely have to be re-traced. The file seems to be based on TIFF files from a CAD program and only bits and pieces have been covered up and adjusted with vector elements as the project evolved. If you can be 100% sure, that the billboard will be inkjet-printed, it would be safe to attempt cleaning it up in PS, if not, and foil labeling is used, then you will not be able to avoid vectorizing it.

  • How do i convert a PDF file in word that is written in Hebrew is that possible?

Before I sign up for the paid version of PDF - I would like to know if it is even possible to convert a PDF file with Hebrew fonts into word ? And be able to change the words and what is written after the conversion in WORD????  Thank you!

Is this a scanned document? To check, try and copy/paste text from the document using Adobe Reader. Do you get
    - nothing at all (nothing selected)
    - the Hebrew you want
    - mangled Hebrew (wrong order, wrong accents, wrong letter forms?)
    - complete rubbish characters?
The answer to this may help us understand whether ExportPDF will work for you.

  • Converting a PDF file to Word format issue

I am using Adobe Reader XI 11.0.09 with the paid side bar to convert the pdf file to an editable Word 2007 format. The problem is that the formatting after conversion is really bad and getting worse, example of the most recient: "I n  a cont ingent circumstance, an effect  results  from  clearly definable causes, t hough t he effect could be  different, given an entirel y  possible and  different interrelation of  causes. In   short, a  contingent  event   or thi ng is a nonnecessa ry event or thi ng tha t either might  not  exist or could  be other than it is."
The conversion in the past was never this bad and I was hoping it was some setting but I have not found a way to tweak the settings in the converter. I have converted many pdf files and had no problems with the outcome of the conversion until recently.
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

  • Converting a PDF into an Indesign doc.

    Hello everybody,
Is it possible to convert a PDF into an Indesign File?  I am using Indesign CS5.5
Thanks in advance for the help!
    QntaDesign

    No you can´t.
There´s couple of thing you can try, but I´m afraif none of them are quite perfect...
    1) Open you PDF into Illustrator and copy/paste or drag&drop the content of the page into InDesign from there. Cons are; you can do only one page at the time and your text will be converted to outlines during the process
    2) Save your PDF as RTF or Word document from Acrobat Professional and place resulting file to InDesign with File>Place commans. You probably have to redo most of the layout, but with correct settings you may be able to preserve text as editable mode and have some styles and graphic elements still after placing....
Steve´s suggestion is only deasent way to do that.
