Is it possible to convert old .m2t files to camera archives?

Captured several Sony HC3 HD tapes using DVHSCAP a few years ago to save on disc space.
I assume these can't be opened directly in FCP X and I'd need to decompress to AIC and import.
It would be nice if there was a method/utility to convert directly to a camera archive but I assume that's not possible.
Any hints/suggestions?
I could just reimport the tapes of course.

Thanks - very straightforward - I had that beta installed. My recollection was that installing the MPEG2 component was a chore, but it was in fact extremely easy - fire up the utility, open up teh MPEG2 component DMG, enter admin credentials, restart MPEGStreamclip and up and running.

You can use iTunes or QuickTime Pro to convert an MP3 file into an AIF file for use in FCE. But convert to a text file? I don't think so. What does "old movies" mean to you? File type, audio and/or video compression format(s)?

To which fix do you refer? Activatng QT 7 Pro or converting the files? Even with QT 7 Pro activated you may need to modify your QT codec component configuration depending on the file type and compression formats used to encode your "old movies." There may be many different problems here with each having one or more "fixes." Please try to be more specific regarding your questions. Converting a muxed VOB MPEG2/AC3 file would be very different different from converting an AVI DivX5/MP3 file depending on which application you are attempting to use.

I've been trying to convert some old CS files into CS5 files. These are simple files: some text, simple line work, a photo or two (tiff, jpeg or eps) and some simple illustrator art. These files were typically 500k to 800k. The updated files are 3 - 6mg. I tried to start with a new file and copy/paste the text, line work and art and would end up with a file around 2 - 3 mg without photo. What do I need to do to end up with a normal size file?

Converting old cinestream files to qt

Does anyone know how I might easily change the old .mov files created in Cinestream to a file that qt 7.2 will play? I have qt pro.
Maybe there is a way to change the icon?

I'd like to convert several pdf files (up to 500) into Excel at the same time. Is it possible ? How many files can Export PDF handle at the same time ?

Hi, Sylvain.
This is a great idea! Currently, ExportPDF only can export 1 file at a time. (Acrobat can do a batch export using it's Action Wizard feature.)

Anyone know how to convert old audio files.

I have some old audio files going back to OS 7 or OS 9. There is no file extension.

That executable file type is just OSX's way of saying it doesn't know what it is. Unfortunately during the OS7-OS9 days Apple dropped using file extensions. As I transitioned from DOS to Mac in the late 1980s I kept on adding them to all my files because I used several computers and would take a floppy from one to the other and needed to know what kind of files I had on there. I still have sounds from OS7 days and I know what they are because I added extensions 24 years ago.
You might see if you can find a resource checking utility. Resources are hidden file information about creator and type in older files. I think I have one on this computer but I am running a G4 OSX 10.4.11 and it is Classic capable so I have all kinds of old software here that may not run on a newer computer.
IT is conceivable VLC might play the file. It can do all kinds of things but I don't know how good its legacy format support is.

Help converting old Freehand files

remember the versions, but they were definitely before 9. I'm on a

My apologies. The hack trick doesn't work for old FreeHand
files but does
work for old AI files.
Since you are using a PowerMac (which probably came with a
version of Mac OS
9) I suggest installing OS9 and running FH8. A time-limited
FH8 demo and a

In the event your files are older than FH3, I found FH 5.5
did a good job of
opening and translating FH2 files. Open in FH5. Save as FH5.
FH5 files can
then be opened in FH8 and saved as FH8 files.

How to convert old Macwrite files in 10.6.8

Years ago, users published suggestions on the Apple forums for converting MacWrite, MacWrite II and MacWrite Pro files to RTF or Word formats, but none of these suggestions seem to work anymore. MacLinkPlus is no longer supported by its developer, and the latest version dropped support for early Mac programs anyway. Other solutions (early ClarisWorks, AppleWords, Word) only run in Classic so don't work on new Macs running 10.6
I have been able to open these files one at a time through a OS9 emulation program SheepSaver, running the original MacWrite software, but this is very slow and tedious.
Does anyone know of a program that will do this conversion in batch, a program which works in OS 10.6? There must be thousands of people with old files who would want to update them. I couldn't find anything in the AppStore or anywhere else.

It seems to me that you can access your files (under SheepShaver), but what you want is a batch conversion from MacWrite to something else. (This an instructive problem. Two decades ago, MacWrite was the de facto WP standard on the Mac, but nowadays we can't find a conversion utility for it. Look around in your Documents folder and ask yourself, how many of my important files will I be able to read twenty years from now.)
I have two suggestions.
(1) This is a bit ironic, but MacText, a rather pricy current Windoze app, claims to read and convert MacWrite files.
(2) Or try a forum of users of 'classic' Macs (eg, Low End Macs). You could ask someone to send you an old copy of MacLink Plus, which you may be able to run under SheepShaver, or Basilisk II, or mini vMac. Alternatively (if the nature and quantity of your MacWrite docs allow), you could ask someone with the right hardware/software to do the conversion for you. Those old files can't be very big, but if they're too much for email, you can always use a service like MediaFire. Remember that, to transfer 'classic' Mac files safely, it's best first to archive them with StuffIt (.sit) and then BinHex them (.hqx).

How do I convert old wma files to AACs within iTunes on my Macbook Air?

I just bought a new Macbook Air (converting from a PC), and imported all my music files via external HD to my desktop. From there, iTunes searched the music folder on my Air's desktop and found alot of the files (mp3s) without issue. There are alot of files, however, that are not registering in iTunes (wmas). Is there a way to convert them to AACs on the Mac without having to download extra programs? On my PC, iTunes would offer to switch these files automatically to AAC, but on the Air I'm not receiving this notification nor do I see an option to do so. Please help!

I was just having a very similar problem. I've had my MacBook Air for a few years now and I haven't had any trouble.
My mom just recently sent me recordings of an old CD I used to listen to--they are wma files. I have flip4mac and quicktime, so I can play them no problem. However, I can't add them to my iTunes library and I can't add it to my iPhone playlist. I tried duplicating and saving the quicktime file as an iTunes audio format, and I tried exporting to iTunes, but it keeps saying "Cannot Open This Media may be damaged."
I used the Switch converter, and was able to add it to my iTunes Library after converting. Lucky for me, I only had to convert 12 songs. Really good app, thanks!

Is it possible to convert a pdf file to a csv file?

I have many files that I need to convert for a client that are presently in .pdf format and the program that she has and wants to utilize only accepts .csv files- is there a way to do this? Do I have to convert all of the files to Excel and then convert to csv? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Don,
Muse files has an extention .muse and this cannot be opened in Adobe Edge Animate. What you can do is, Export your .muse file as HTML using Muse. Now, open the html file that muse generates for its pages in Adobe Edge Animate.
From there, you can publish the html file as an .oam file using Adobe Edge Animate .
However please make sure that you have changed the publish settings in Adobe Edge animate such that it is also creates a .oam file for your html file when it publishes.
