Is it possible to copy 8mm video to DVD using my MacBook?

I want to copy 8mm vidoe to DVD using my MacBook. How can I tell if it is possible?

Do you mean 8mm film? Or "digital 8" video tape?
There are many services that can convert film to digital formats, but they're expensive. The most reasonably priced service I have found is called "Yesvideo". Google it.
If it's "digital 8" the way to do that is to import it from your "digital 8" camcorder using iMovie. Then you use iDVD to create a DVD.

  • Transferring 8mm videos to dvd using imovie

I have several 8mm videos that I'm wanting to transfer to dvd. I have an old Sony ccd-trv212 that I can use, but don't know how to plug it into my Macbook. I've read that I need a FireWire transfer box, but some people have used only USB converters. Anyone know what I need?

I've read that I need a FireWire transfer box
Yes, that is true, USB is not to good with video.
All analog to digital video converters use firewire.
To get your 8mm video into iMovie, look at the Canopus ADVC300. Audio and Video go in, FireWire comes out. It also comes with a nice Macintosh application that works flawlessly with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 (not sure about iMovie 08).
The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material. The ADVC300 will take Audio and Video from any source and convert it to FireWire (iMovie will treat it like a camera).

If you like to make DVDs, give iMovie 06 a try.
I use both iMovie 08 and iMovie 06, if I want to make a DVD I prefer iMovie 06. iMovie 08 is not as DVD friendly as iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 has replaced "Share to iDVD" with "Share to media browser". Also iMovie 08 cannot set chapter markers, this has to be done with another program.
When using iMovie 06, one mouse click will set a chapter marker EXACTLY where you specify. In just a few seconds set all your chapter markers. When you are done editing just "share to iDVD 08" and all of your chapter markers will be there!
iMovie 06 and iDVD 08 is a terrific combination.
Apple includes iMovie 06 as a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    A. There are no HD in DVD - DVD is as standard only SD-Video what ever tools used to produce it !
iDVD or DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ - will only make SD-Video on DVD
    B. DVD can be better or worse
    • Using "Share to iDVD" is no good way - Better is Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD as result will be worse)
    • Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to chose if highes quality is of importance - iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version is far better as they send over all lines to iDVD and not only every second one.
    • Using Right encoder quality depending on movie and Manu duration is very important
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD - is important - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Type of DVD - DVD-R plays on more DVD-Players (even old ones)
    • Burn speed - I set it down to x4 - resulting in less burn errors - plays on more players
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up Mac OS hard disk as iDVD and Mac OS needs this and it can not be taked from other hard disks - has to be here.
    • What You feed iDVD does matter
    Video codecs
    Audio file formats
    Photo file formats

  • Is It Possible To Copy Files To Multiple DVDs/CD-Rs In One Shot?

    Hi...
I want to copy a complete set of files I have to make a backup of them onto DVD. However, the total amount of disk space is larger than a standard dvd... Is it possible for someone to copy them so they span several DVDs by splitting up the data within OSX?

Thanks for the suggestion... I did think of Toast but I was hoping maybe there was a way I could do the same task within OSX itself without buying additional software. Maybe a good added feature though for future versions of OSX.
    Thanks,

  • Copy Video from DVD?

Is it possible to copy a video off a DVD I created in FCE? I'm not able to retrieve all support files from a corrupt hard drive that housed the original video I created a couple years ago. Is there a way to copy the audio & video files from the DVD back into FCE (or someplace else) so that I can burn more DVD's? The remaining DVD I have seems to be deteriorating so I hope to get the images back on my HD in order to repair where needed before burning a new one.

If you want to bring the material into FCE, then yes. If you want it only for the web, you can use Streamclip to convert it directly to a web format, or Handbrake is good for this.

  • The DVD function of 2007 MacBook Pro (10.7.5) no longer works. Apple does repair, but referred to buy an external DVD player.  Purchased two, including the Apple, neither work on my model. Trying to burn DVD of 8MM video.  Any suggestions?

I am trying to turn my Sony 8mm Handicam video into DVD through my MACBOOK PRO.  Unfortunately my DVD function no longer works.  Apple won't repair, no longer carries the parts.  Referred to Apple repair shop.  Gentleman there said it cost the same to purchase an external DVD player as repair the MACBOOK.  So far, I have purchased two, including Apple's.  Neither works with my MACBOOK.  Any ideas or suggestions?

    Hi rgneil:
Yeah, keeping an older machine running has it's challenges.
Have you tried one of the DVD burners from Other World Computing?  Their sales support can probably guide you to one that should work.  The OWC burner that I use with my 2009 17-inch MacBook Pro has FireWire and USB2 connectors.
Are you using iMovie/iDVD or Final Cut Pro/DVD Studio Pro?  And, do you have Roxio Toast?
If all else fails, you could try a stand alone DVD-Recorder.  You'd want to pick a model that supports external video input.  I have a LiteON DVD-Recorder that I patch VHS, Regular8 and Hi8 decks to now and again just to get stuff off tape to DVD-R.
Report back on what works (or continues to not work) for you.
    Burn on!

  • Burning a video to DVD that will default to opening at actual size.

Hi. I am burning a widescreen (16:9) SD video to dvd using DVD Studio Pro 4. The video has been exported from FCP6 using compressor. The quality is fine and the aspect ratio has been retained for viewing (letterboxed) on a 4:3 CRT and also on a widescreen display. Is there any way, through encoding, that I can force the video, by default, to open at actual size on a widescreen computer display rather than full screen? I realize that the viewer can exit from fullscreen mode and select "actual size" in DVD Player, but if possible, I would like the video to begin playing at actual size without any adjustments having to be made. My concern is that some viewers will not bother to exit fullscreen mode and will view the video at a size not supported by its resolution. It's a video of a photographer's stills and at a display size larger than actual size, the sharpness of the images is compromised. Any way to get around this other than adding some text advising the viewer to watch the video at actual size or redoing the whole thing in HD?

Not possible. There's nothing in the DVD Video specification that provides for this.
There are settings available in the Preferences menu for Apples's DVD Player that can be set to do this, but no way to put information on a disc that will override those settings.

  • I want to transfer my VHS-C videos to DVD.

I want to transfer my VHS-C videos to DVD using my I MAC (Mid-2011).  I have the camcorder (Panasonic PV-IQ305) to use.  I also have a VHS player I can use.

Does the Panasonic camcorder have the play thru capability? If it does you can connect the camcorder to your Mac with a FW cable, put in a tape, launch iMovie and play the tape in the camcorder to import it into iMovie.  If the camera does not have play thru see if you can find one that does.  Then connect your VHS player to the camera and the camera to your iMac.
Otherwise you'll need to use a converter like the Canopus converters. They are not inexpensive but do an excellent job. I used the ADVC-100 model to convert all of my VHS videos to digital and then burn to iDVD. There are undoubtly other converters on the market that do the same function.  The Canopus is the only one I've seen discussed in this community.
If you could borrow a camcorder with pass thru you could save a few $$$.

  • Is it possible to copy iCloud backup to Mac for manual restore of iPhone?

Hey guys, thank you in advance for your help.
I've been backing up to icloud since I got my 4S, and have only been manually copying selected photos to my iPhoto library. Recently my camera roll and camera started acting strange (lagging, not loading/storing properly) so I wasn't surprised when iTunes told me I needed to update my iPhone software. When it tried to install the update, iTunes couldn't recognize the phone (not surprising considering how glitchy it had been) and told me I needed to restore the phone. Nbd, right?
I backed up to iCloud one last time, initiated the restore, and then went to bed. I woke up this morning to discover that fewer than half of my photos had been returned to my camera roll, and my photo stream had disappeared. I went into Settings-->General-->iCloud on my phone and it said the restore was incomplete. I got the restore back on track (it picked up where it had left off [thank Goodness] instead of starting over completely). It's currently creeping along, loading a new photo every few minutes, and videos are taking approximately a year each (I exaggerate, but only slightly).
Frustrated, I checked my photostream in iPhoto on my Mac to see if I could bypass the problem by using that to recover the photos from the past week (nearly everything valuable had been imported already). My plan was to scrap the restore and start fresh with an empty camera roll, re-populated via Photostream. But for some reason the photos and videos from the past week never made it to Photostream.
And thus, the waiting game continues.
In a nutshell: I need to know if it's possible to copy the iCloud folder that contains my full backup directly to my Mac and then do the restore from there.
Also, is it possible to backup the iPhone to iCloud AND your computer? iTunes makes it look like they're mutually exclusive, and as much as I appreciate the convenience and security of iCloud (i.e. having a backup in the event of loss, theft, etc. of phone and/or computer) I don't like being cut off from my data like this.
Thank you for your time; have an awesome day!:)

    No.
    Homesharing is streaming only.

  • How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie. The two   hour wait to view all in iMovie puts the kibosh on my edit time.

How do I copy my video files from iPhoto to iMovie? The two + hour wait for thumb nails and hour long wait looking for the right videos kills the time I have to edit.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Is it possible to copy a Standard Program along with the enhancements?

    Hi Friends,
I need to copy the program RMCE0400 (Transaction: MC$K) and modify the selection screen and select queries based on the select options.
I copied the standard program to a Z Program but the enhancements were not copied automatically.
So i copied the codes in those enhancements and pasted them in the Z Program.
But it does not replicate the selection screen as well as the output of the standard program.
Can you tell me whether there is any other way to incorporate the codes in the enhancements of the standard program to the Z Program?
Is it possible to copy the enhancements?
I can use the enhancements to enhance the standard program, but the user wants to create a new T-Code with the copied and modified program.
So can anyone let me know if there is any way to do so?

  • Best device for VHS/8mm video input/record to disk?

Looking to transfer old tapes to .avi files or Xvid, or .mpg from VHS and 8mm tapes.
Not professional grade, just some old stuff for fun and to dump the tapes in the trash!
Anybody with experience that can offer suggestions would be appreciated.
    John

I ended up buying a 'Set Top' DVD recorder to replace both VHS and 8mm decks. I can use it copy old tapes to DVD and record new shows off the cable just as though it was a VHS recorder.
If I need to view the videos on my Mac, they play just fine. The only issue would be if I wanted to do some editing, but I think I can even overcome that issue by converting the DVD video to DV format and then work with that on my Mac.
If I were to have bought a card, I would have gone with the Canopus as well.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Zune will not copy 720p videos, which were created...

    Hi,
I bought a Lumia 710 roughly a week ago. I recorded a bunch of 720p videos, synced them with my PC with Zune, and deleted some of them from the phone.
Today I wanted to copy one of them back to the phone so I could watch it on a DLNA-enabled TV, but Zune converted it first, lowering the quality and I cannot find a way to skip the conversion.
Before I purchased the phone I read about Zune and how the sync works, and I knew it would convert unsupported videos if possible, but in this case it's absolutely unnecessary.
I think it happens because the phone itself has 800x480 screen, so Zune *thinks* it's pointless to copy 1280x720 video to it. However the converted video looks terrible on a TV through DLNA.
Is there a way to change phone profile in the drivers or something to prevent this conversion?
(Sorry for bad english, I'm a little bit nervous right now.)

Are you aware that you've posted in the iTunes for Mac forum? You might have better luck solving the problem if you post in iTunes for Windows. Perhaps someone there will be able to help you.

  • Is it possible to transfer music/videos from one itunes account to a separate one?  I need to give my music and videos that I bought a grandchild to her for her ipad.

Is it possible to transfer music/videos from my itunes account to a grandchild (she will need her own account)  I bought her music and videos and let her play with my ipod touch.  Now she has an ipad.

No you cannot transfer purchases from one account to another account. Apple does not allow it and never has allowed it.
She can use you Apple ID on the device and switch between her ID and your ID, but that can cause problems at times and can become a bit of a pain.
