Is it possible to damage iPhone screen by pressing too hard?

I have an iPhone 5s and I take really good care of it and want it to last a long time. I have an Otter Box and a screen protector and stuff to keep it in good condition. Sometimes, if I press the screen a little bit harder than usual, I notice that it looks liquidy for a second and the colors become wavy and distorted for a moment. The condition goes away after I release the pressure. Could I be damaging the screen when this happens?

But is it possible to damage the screen by pressing too hard, regardless of whether you have a screen protector?
Absolutely. You're talking about a glass screen over sensitive electronic components. It would be rather difficult to do with a finger, though.

  • Can I hurt my iPhone screen by pressing it too hard during games?

I've got a new baseball game that I love playing, but sometimes I get too excited and mash the buttons. I see the screen react like it does whenever you press an LCD on a laptop or a calculator, for example. Can I damage it by pressing too hard? Obviously normally I don't press that hard, but it's like mashing buttons on a controller, except the controller is a screen.

So I dropped by my Apple store and all of their iPhones do the exact same thing. Strangely enough, the iPod touch doesn't. But the iPhones all do it, so I'm going to assume it's okay. I checked my old iPhone and it actually is worse. I'm not pressing that hard... it just shows up as a quick light or dark spot near where I press it. Weird.

  • Case fumes damage iPhone screen?

Ok new iPhone user here. I can't tell I'm imagining things but it seems like my screen is a little tacky, as in my finger doesn't slide across it well. It's not sticky at all,as in doesn't grab my fingers when I lift them from the screen. I bought this [http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d.html/ref=mps_a2/184-8750761-4731015?qid=1246547966&a=B001CJTE0K&sr=8-2] case. It smelled like terpintine so I let it air for a bit but eventualy I put my iPhone in it for about 4 hours. I decided I couldn't deal with the smell so I gave the case away. What do you guys think? Am I just imagining things here? Is it possible that the fumes made the screen less glidable?

  • My Iphone screen is suddenly very hard to read. The light has disappeared after it had been wet.

My screen is hardly not readable anymore. The light has disappeared, probably after it got wet. Any idea about what I can do to fix it?

This is called "No Backlight Problem", most commonly assciated with water exposure.
Before opening and during any repair on the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone must be OFF or you risk more damage to your iPhone.
10% cause is due to faulty LCD Display, to determine test your LCD Display on another iPhone 3GS or try a new LCD Display on your iPhone. If your LCD is fine, then next step.
80% cause is due to 6r8 Coil on Logic Board. This 1 dollar part must be carefully removed and replaced (soldered) to Logic Board. If still No Backlight Problem, then next step.
10% cause is due to any number of Logic Board problems between the 6r8 coil and the #1 Connector on the Logic Board.

  • IPhone screen stays on too long

Can anyone tell me why my screen would stay on longer than a minute when the phone isn't being used? Sometimes I've noticed this when it's attached to a music dock or via USB to my laptop, but lately it seems to stay on even when it's sitting on my desk unconnected to anything. Easy enough to shut off the screen by pushing the button on top, but I'm using up battery power I don't want to, and it seems like the phone should go to sleep sooner than it is.

    Many thanks.
I see how it happened. I'd turned on a password lock for a couple days a while ago, and when I turned it off, I set Auto-Lock to "never," thinking this was the way to turn off the password lock.

  • I removed my iphone screen guard ..if i use it without screen guard is there any possibility in  formation of scratches

i removed my iphone screen guard ..if i use it without screen guard is there any possibility in formation of scratches

Only if you carry loose diamonds in your pocket. The glass on the iPhone is Corning Gorilla Glass, and is very hard. It's not a good idea to carry an iPhone (or any other phone, for that matter) loose in your pocket without a case that covers the screen, earpiece, dock conntector, headphone jack speaker and mic. There's too much in most people's pockets that can damage these parts, or get into them. Pocket lint in the Lightning connector or headphone jack can cause all kinds of mischief, and the mic, speaker and earpiece are completely exposed.
The screen natively has a coating on it that repels oils, making it very easy to remove fingerprints with a tissue or cloth. Putting a screen protector on the phone defeats this feature.

If you are in India, contact your local service center for a price quote. I don't know if Indian service centers can replace just the back glass or if they will need to replace the entire iPhone. To locate a service center, see:

Make sure you select "iPhone" for the product time. Only certain service centers can handle iPhones.

  • If my iphone screen is cracked but it also has water damage will it be covered under applecare?

If my Iphone screen is cracked but it also has water damage will it be covered under applecare since i need the screen replaced?

Neither of those is covered by the standard one-year warranty.
If you purchased AppleCare+, you may be able to get it replaced for $79+ tax; otherwise, you will most likely be paying $269+ tax to replace the phone.

Same here. I tried to update my iPhone 5S and iPad 4 to 7.1 but iTunes wiped out them. This thing already happened for iOS 7.0.6 update. What happened to Apple? I am really curious whether Apple is aware of this problem.

  • How to delete user data from damaged iPhone?

    Hi,
I have a damaged iPhone 3GS that I'm selling for parts on ebay. The device's is currently stuck on "update mode", basically I was updating to iOS 6.1 a while back and in the middle of the process, the phone returned an "hardware error" message and now it's allways stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen.
No matter what resets I try to do or restores, it wll allways return the "hardware error" message and then to the apple screen and finally to the "connect to itunes" screen.
So, I decided to sell it for parts since I've bought another (newer) iPhone, but I wanted to make sure that all my user data (accounts, text messages, phone numbers, etc.) was deleted just in case the lucky buyer manages to get it fixed. How can I do this?
Will the "clear phone data"option on iCloud do the trick, or do I need to do something more?
I also know that have to remove the iPhone from my iCloud account, is this correct?
What are procedures can you guys recomend for this?
    Thanks

I have a "new" piece of information about this issue that might help clarify the problem a bit.
I plugged it in today to do a final check on it's maladies and this is what happened:
    1.Device starts charging
2.Device show the "connect to iTunes" screen (the one with the USB and itunes icon)
    3.I connect it to iTunes
4.iTunes says something like: "This iPhone's software is damaged. A factory reset is required to restore the OS. Your device will be reset to factory settings and all your data will be deleted. After the reset is completed, you will have the possibility to restore your information on the device"
    5. I click "Restore iPhone"
    6. It starts checking for software, extracting software, etc.
7.I get the apple screen with the loading bar
    8. On iTunes the process stops on the "restoring firmware" step. It gets stuck there for a couple of hours and then eventualy it returns an hardware error
    9. The loading bar on the apple screen gets full, but the iPhone never manages to leave "restore iPhone" mode.
From all the iTunes messages and procedures that I'm doing, I take it that the iPhone's memory is in fact already wiped clean, am I assuming it right? That's why he won't boot and is stuck on recovery mode?
Can I also assume that any data I had there cannot be recovered unless I restored it from my laptop/iCloud?
And finally and just out of morbid curiosity, anyone has an idea about what is wrong with the iPhone? I never managed to figure out what happened or if it's something "fixable".
    Thanks for the help!

  • Cracked iPhone screen...questions re replacement

Ok Ive had my Verizon iPhone since February...yesterday my worst iPhone fear came true...I dropped my iPhone about 4 ft onto cement in 30 degree weather... Over half the screen was really cracked...I have a 32gb so I think vzw charges a $199 deductible...so I found this shop that replaces cracked iPhone screens...he told me the labor itself would only be about $30-40 but then he looked the part price up in his book up to his iPhone 4 CDMA parts guide & mumbles something like "digitizer" & blah blah then tells me the part would cost $150...I asked him what if I brought him the part would he still did it & just charge for labor...he was very nice and said he would do that.
Then I went online & googled iPhone 4 replacement assemblys & saw them for as low as $25 the I saw some for $55ish but nowhere near $150...is there a legit reason why he would charge this price...is the what an apple OEM screen replacement assembly costs, & I was looking at all non-OEM products? What are the downsides, if any, to replacing the iPhone screen with a non-OEM..are some of the features absent, like the oleophobic coating?
So I guess my question is what does an "iPhone screen replacement" assembly include? Besides the screen itself  & a "digitizer" (not sure what that is) and how do I know which ones are trash out there & which ones are good? Would you advise any non-OEM product at all?
Please give me any info you have on screen replacement packages, & possibly where I can purchase one that won't be garbage. Oh & also if it says it is meant for CDMA model...should I assume it is going to be the glossy version?
    Thanks!

So if I'm clear here you have thus far paid $109.90 for insurance and after paying another $199, for a total of $308.90 Verizon will replace your iPhone? Or, as has already been noted you can pay $149 at an Apple Store and get a replacement with a 90 day warranty.
I have no idea why in the **** you are paying for that insurance. I would talk to a Verizon rep about it before doing anything.
when you put it that way, yeah verizon is totally screwing everyone who has iphone insurance with them
this is right from verizon wireless website:

I have an iphone 5. I have no idea of the ios version in it. Recently i broke my iphone screen and its showing up nothing. it was never synced to itunes or to any pc. When i tried to connect iphone to itunes in my pc it was asking for passcode which i had forgotten ages ago. Suggest me the possible ways to recover my iphone.

Since the screen doesn't work, it will be challenging to get it working, even thru iTunes. You will need to ask yourself if you want to invest more money in it or get a new one, especially since the contents will be lost since you don't know the passcode. Apple will gladly replace the screen for a cost that represents a significant portion of the price of a new. Once the screen is done, you may or may not be eligible for the free iPhone 5 Battery Replacement Program.
Or, if you decide to salvage it and are strong of heart and firm of hand, you can replace the screen yourself for less. See here and note they carry kits with all needed tools and parts.

  • How can I capture motion video of my iPhone screen?

I would like to capture my iPhone screen in action for purposes of demonstrating its usage to others (e.g. How do I create and send a text?). I want to be able to use this in a FinalCut video.

I don't think there is a supported way to make screen recordings in iOS devices.
The possible workaround is to use AirPlay and record on a second device.
There is software for the mac that can turn a mac into an airplay device. You can then use Quicktime Player to make a screen recording and then bring that into FCP X. Also instead of QT Player you may use ScreenFlow or other screen recording software if you have it.
I can't test right now, but when I get home I plan to make a little test to see how well this in fact works.

To replace your phone's screen costs $109US and I don't see why having Apple replace the screen would void your warranty.
