I'm working on a slideshow that needs to be seconds based rather than frame based. Is it possible to use seconds rather than frames?

Yes, create a timer then advance to nextFrame() as often as you choose.
Or the hacky way to do it is to vary your frame rate, standard is 24fps I believe.

The iMac will allow you to connect a second monitor but that monitor will show the same thing as the iMac's built-in screen.
You can network a Mac mini and iMac via Ethernet or Firewire.
Software load sharing like Xgrid can allow you to share work between the Macs.

Hi folks,
I was wondering if it is possible to install a second SSD hard drive in my HP DV6 i7? The current hard drive is 500GB but if there was space I was wondering about the possibility of installing a small SSD that would contain the OS to speed up boot time or one that contained my programs so they opened faster. I don't like the price of a 500GB SSD!!
My laptop spec is:
DV6 with a Intel Core i7 720QM @ 1.60Ghz
8GB DDR3 ram

well you have two options you can use a hybrid hdd like the seagate drive

No there's no space for a 2nd drive. You can replace your existing hard drive with a larger hard drive or ssd drive.

From port number I assume you're using Developer suite. Remember that standalone OC4J is provided by Oracle for testing purposes only. You shouldn't use that in Production environment, where you should install Application Server, eventually the standalone Forms and Reports services (without infrastructure).

Is it possible to create a second Guest network on a Time Capsule?

I have found a few similar posts but they are pretty old and not exactly what i want. In the Time Capsule there is an option for a Guest network. Would it be possible to create a second guest network with the same time capsule? So that it would have internet but would be isolated from the other components on the system?

Not exactly.....as things get tricky. You could add another Apple router...but it would need to be configured in Bridge Mode to work correctly with the "main" router.
A separate Guest Network feature cannot be enabled when the Apple router is set up to operate in Bridge Mode.
This would apply to the "main" Time Capsule as well. So, you would need to insure that the Time Capsule was connected to a simple modem......not a modem/router combination device that is commonly offered by most Internet Service Providers.
Check with your ISP to make sure that they provide you with a simple modem if you want to be able to use the Guest Network feature on any of the Apple routers.

Time based animation effects

I'm adding effects to images on a slide. Entrance effects. Yet the one image disappears after the 3 seconds. The text box goes back to its initial size before the zoom. How do I get them to stay at the position they are at at the end of the time-based animation effect? Thanks in advance!

Check the timing of the effect in the Effects panel. Most likely you don't have the effect timing set correctly there so that it remains in effect for the duration that the image is on screen.
Perhaps you can post a screenshot of your main timeline showing the image in question, and the same image's Effects timeline?

Paint strokes are always on a 2D plane in 3D space, and always in "local 3D" which means they cannon interact with other objects (unless you keep them as 2D).
However, you can animate particle emitters and replicators along a motion path in full 3D space and wrap around objects.

Tick vs. time -based animation

Hi. I'm a bit of a newbie and I was wondering if I could get some information/opinions on animation techniques. I've seen a few mentions (one very recently by Abuse) of tick-based animation being inferior to time-based animation. I'm pretty sure I get the two concepts -- I assume it's just a matter of defining when the environment is automatically updated.
On the one hand (tick-based) keep a tick count and after x ticks go by, move your elements.
On the other hand (time-based), update the environment, repaint (I assume this would have to be via active rendering) and then figure out how long to sleep until update/render next time, i.e. (SLEEP - timeThisCycleTook).
My first question is: Am I correct? :-) If not, please enlighten me on the two approaches.
My next question is: why is time-based so much better? It seems to me it would allow the frame rate to be more stable, though would the frames be drawn at more predictable intervals with tick-based?
Any information that would un-confuse me would be greatly appreciated! :)

Your understanding of tick based V's time based appears to be correct - as for the advantages between the 2 - thats abit of a contraversial area.
Both techniques are useful, depending on the circumstances...
tick based
advantages:-
*easier collision detection
*more predictable simulation
disadvantages :-
* if used on a computer that is too slow to keep up with the tick rate,
your game will run at <100% speed. This may affect user input (if using polling),
and will also cause problems with game difficulty/balancing
(things are easier to control when they happen slower than they should)
* in multiplayer, the gamespeed will be limited by the slowest client
(which is ok for RTS type games, but very bad for FPS type games)
* on fast computers, your game will not be taking full advantage of the speed
time based
advantages :-
* networking synchronization is alot easier (and a constant speed can be maintained, even with slow clients)
* the speed of the computer is fully exploited
disadvantages :-
* collision detection is alot trickier
those are not the definitive adv/dis by any means -
just what I could come up with off the top of my head.

Is it possible to filter the list view results based on the current user logged in. I have a scenario wherein i want to show only those list items to the user which contains his/her name under the column Approver (a list column).
So if i login to the page, then only those requests should show up which has my name as the Approver, and so on.
Is it possible please ?

Hi Prajk, you could use audience targeting for this. An alternative would be to create a view and add a filter so that "Approver" is equal to [Me]

Is it possible creating a report not based on a table?

In APEX I've always created form on report so as to have the list of records of a table and the possibility of inserting/updating every sinle record by means of the form on it, ok?
I have an application concerning classic costumers, orders, ... with a table for every item.
The problem is that I have to gather all information ao as to produce a classic bill with a typical layout where you have on your left some descriptions and on your right an amount but of course the layout is not based on a classic table, do you mean?
Do I have to create a table in which I'll add data and null values so as to get the layout desired (basically a work-around solution) or is there a better way to do it?

If you want a wizard to create the form and report for you then yes you need to have a table. One thing that you can do is define a view that contains the data you need and define an Instead Of trigger on that view so the automatic fetch and dml will work but you can have the data stored into the different objects. basically the view and the trigger work as a router/dispatcher for the data.

I should also add that you can write a pl/sql package which does the fetch and the dml operations with the form items as input. This is the solution I would typically use for any form that was not a simple CRUD form for a table. One thing to note is for the fetch I prefer to use out parameters for the form items so it requires the developer to map the item to the param in the app so it will show up when you are searching through the app. I highly discourage hiding item references inside of packaged code.
