Is it possible to download Snow Leopard online line if you bought the disk

Just as the title says.
Thanks

As Michael said above, Nope.
But if you bought the disk and have the receipt, Apple will replace it for you at a nominal fee.

I have recently acquired an update for my mac OX the program being the snow leopard, i have been forever inserting the disk only to have it ejected by my mac, hence, i am unable to update my system with snow leopard, what can i do, as i have just paid out money for something which

Worked like a charm and resolved my problem totally. The only issue I had is that, unlike the Computer (Mac OS). the iPad doesn't give constant visibility to what it is doing (feedback), so I wasn't initially sure it had done anything.
When I opened my emailed message with .vcf file attached, and tapped the .vcf attachment icon, I saw activity on the icon for just a few seconds, then it reverted to the original with nothing apparently happening. After about 30 seconds, the secondary menut popped up indicating the transfer of 1200 addresses would be completed, if I approved the action. Another 10 to 15 seconds then transpired before the completed Contact list appeared on the ipad. So you must be patient, if you have a large Addressbook. That's reasonable, but unexpected lack of feedback left me wondering, like so many other things on the iPad.
THank you for the assist. Apparently Apples Mac Genius people did not know this procedure, and I will pass it on to my local Apple Store Instructor.

  • HT2186 Is it possible to download Snow Leopard?

Currently I have OS X 10.5.8 (leopard). I can't access the App Store until I have Snow Leopard, and I can't have Snow Leopard shipped because I work in Iraq... I would really appreciate any help you might be able to offer me.
    Best,

I'm just curious, would EBay work, or is that also not availalbe for Iraq?

  • Do i need to download snow leopard to Buy a program from the apps store?

There is a image editing program that I am trying to purchase, but in order to, I have to purchase it now from the Mac Apps Store. It seems I don't have the Apps store And I heard that I needed Snow leopard (10.6.6?) in order to have access to the Apps Store. I currently have 10.5.8..So is this the problem? Would I need to buy Snow leopard? And when I do, Does it just download onto my computer or do I actually have to send out for a disc ? Any feedback would be appreciated.. THANKS!!

Would I need to buy Snow leopard?
You need it to get the Mac App Store. If you haven't already, check the manufacturer's website or the online Apple Store from the link above for that program.
And when I do, Does it just download onto my computer or do I actually have to send out for a disc ?
You need to get it on DVD.

  • I'm selling my Macbook Pro 17" that i have upgraded to Snow Leopard but I no longer have the disks because I gave them to the person who bought my iMac. Is there a way to erase all my personal info without having to resort to wiping off the whole HD?

I no longer have the Snow leopard disks so I can't just reload the OS but I told the person I sold the MBP to that it has SL on it so I don't want to wipe it off. Is there a way to remove my personal info without resorting to reloading the software again?

Open Accounts preferences. Click on the lock icon to authenticate. Click on the Add [-] to create a new user account. Give the new account admin status. Set the account for auto-login then restart the computer. The computer should boot into the new user account. Open Accounts preferences, click on the lock icon to authenticate. Select your old account and click on the Delete [-] button. Select the third option to remove the user folder and also check the option to securely erase. If given the option to select the number of passes select one pass only. This should remove your data from any prying eyes.

  • Boot camp 5.1.3 will not give me the option to download Windows 8.1. I just bought the disk today to do this but the only option I have is to download windows 7. How do I fix this?

I have a usb with 16 gb already formatted it and I just downloaded Yosemite. I just bought a brand new windows 8.1 disk, so how do I download it to my Mac so I can use some stupid Windows apps ha?

From MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) - Technical Specifications, you have a built-in Optical drive. Is it functional?
    Storage
    250GB or 320GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive; optional 320GB or 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive, or 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB solid-state drive6
    8x slot-loading SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    Maximum write: 8x DVD-R, DVD+R; 4x DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, DVD+RW; 24x CD-R; 10x CD-RW
    Maximum read: 8x DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-ROM; 6x DVD-ROM (double layer DVD-9), DVD-R DL (double layer), DVD+R DL (double layer), DVD-RW, DVD+RW; 24x CD
You will need to burn a DVD using Disk Utility (Yosemite): Burn a disk image to a CD or DVD and use it for Windows installation. You will also need a USB2 flash disk for the BC drivers for it to work. Please ensure that the DVD is burnt at the recommend rate for the physical media and verify, otherwise you will end up with an unusable DVD.

  • Can I download Snow leopard/Lion rather than order hard copy delivery?  Not finding in iTunes nor on apple website..

I currently have Mac OSx and looking to upgrade to Lion (sounds like I need to go through Snow Leopard upgrade first).  Is there an easy way to simply download these upgrades rather than order via the mail?  Any way to avoid updgrading two separate times and have the ability to go direct to the Lion upgrade?
    Thanks!

You cannot download Snow Leopard. You have to buy it on disk.
Once you've installed that, and updated it to 10.6.8, you can download Lion from the App Store.
Apple also sells Lion on a USB stick, but I don't know if it is possible to install that on a disk with just Leopard.
Also, make sure your MacBook can run Lion: http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html

  • Why can a person buy and/or download Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion but not Mavericks???

I am running OS X Lion on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro with 4GB of ram and a 160GB HDD. I was going to download Mavericks from the app store but waited to long. Now that Yosemite is out Mavericks has disappeared from the app store. WHY? A person can buy and/or download Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion but not Mavericks??? And the kicker is that it was FREE!!! I just wanted to load Mavericks on my MacBook Pro to see how it performs. If I could live with any slow downs or quirks, I'd leave it installed. If not, I'd roll my system back. Apple's policy of ramrodding unstable product down our throat is BS. I don't want to use Yosemite until it has become more stable!

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • Need to download Snow Leopard, Need to download Snow Leopard

Where can I find Snow Leopard as an online download.  Need it as I have previous OS, and cannot upgrade to Mountain Lion without first upgrading to Snow Leopard??

I called the italian support centre. Snow Leopard DVD costs € 15.90 (including the delivery to Italy).
They couldn't process the order because of a technical issue from their part, so they should sort it out tomorrow.
Concerning the maltese support centre, I went personnally to the only Apple Store in Malta yesterday and they told me I have to take my computer there and they would install the upgrade themselves for € 53.00, without giving me a disc!!!!!!!
Since I have 2 computers which need to be upgraded, the final cost would be € 106.00 !!!!
And the cherry on the cake is that if you need to format or similar operations, you need to take the computer again and pay a second time!!!!!
Since I realized it's a rip off, I joined this forum to solve my problem
    Thanks to all!!!

    Hi
    Any help greatly appreciated.
I am trying to download snow leopard (just purchased it online) but cannot access icloud from my mac because only have lion - how can i access my mac email to download snow leopard, which will allow me to put icloud on my computer, and therefore access my emails!!!!
    Thanks.

Snow Leopard (10.6) isn't available as a download.
You buy it at the Apple Store and it ships on a DVD. Software update brings it to 10.6.8 which includes the App Store where you can download Mavericks for free.

  • I have an eligible computer but cannot download snow leopard.

I have a mac book pro 13" mid 2009 with 8 gb ram and 11 gb of free disk space but when I try to download snow leopard from the app store it does a little and then stops without expaination.

    I have a disk capacity of 159gb and I have 10.8 free.
If 10.8 GB is all you've got left on a 159 GB drive, you'd better clean at least another 10 GB off. All modern OS's (Windows, Linux and others included) need a fair amount of breathing room for swap, data and cache files. 10 GB is not enough room, strange as that may sound.
Actually I have found the problem, its the BT router won't let me.
Any router could care less how much data is going through it, when set up normally. There's only two real possible reasons I can think of at the moment.
    1) Your ISP has a daily data limit and is cutting you off at 80 MB.
    2) Some routers have settings you can change to limit any computer you want to a set amount of data per day, hour, whatever you want. Check to see if someone has set such a limit.

I downloaded an update for my Safari web browser to "snow leopard". When I click on the .dmg file, a window opens up with a .pkg file but when I click on the .pkg file I get a prompt saying that it doesn't know what program to open it with.

I suspect if you're trying to open a file in 08 that's been opened in 09 the file has been updated to 09 and will not open in 08.

  • Trouble downloading Snow Leopard sw updates- system crashes during update installs. I'm only trying to get to the AppStore to download

I've upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard... fine.
Installing the system updates (the AppStore isn't in the Snow Leopard install, just available via a system update)
The updates appear to have downloaded ok, then the system restarts to install, and .... CRASH. All's I'm trying to do is legally get to Lion.
I have a 15" Macbook Pro, 2gb ram, dual core Intel, 120gb drive.
Should I re-install Snow Leopard, or anyone have any good ideas?  I suppose it could even be a hardware problem of some sort, but the system seeems stable unless I try to do the sw updates.
    Please help!
    Thanks all!

dual core Intel   /    All's I'm trying to do is legally get to Lion.
    Lion requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
From here > Apple - OS X Lion - Technical specifications
Click your Apple icon top left corner of your screen then from the drop down menu click: About This Mac
If it doesn't say:  Intel Core 2 Duo
Then you can't upgrade the Mac to Lion.

  • I've installed LION.  Is it possible to put Snow Leopard on an external hard drive?

I've installed LION.  Is it possible to put Snow Leopard on an external hard drive?

I was unaware of this change for usb support! However Babowa makes a good point in that you would probably not want to run SL via USB and rather Firewire.
Having said that, the 13" MacBooks do not have firewire.
But again as Babowa points out, that machine wouldn't be able to run Lion anyway.
