Is it possible to edit text in a pdf form created using an earlier version of LiveCycle?

I created a form starting with a Microsoft Word document, turned it into a Adobe Acrobat PDF and then turned it into a fillinable form using the LiveCycle Designer that used to be imbedded in the Adobe Acrobat program a couple of years ago.  Now that they have upgraded my Adobe Acrobat to the version that doesn't have LiveCycle Designer included (but given me the now separate LiveCycle Designer program), I can't seem to edit or add text to an existing form.
If I create (re-create) the form in the new Adobe Acrobat program, then I can go back and edit either the base document or directly in the form.
But I can't do that on my old forms.  Is that true or am I missing something?
Please help.

I don't know if it is the best solution but you could filter the results to just that client's answers on the summary tab and then PDF that.

    how can i edit text in Footer text.

    Hi,
    Usually footer texts are displayed in Master pages.
    If you don't see the tab in the Designer, display it by right-clicking on the Body page tab and start editing your text.
    If you need dynamic content in your footer, use the floating field text inside your static text.

  • Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?

    Can I Scan to editable text on HP Officejet Pro 8620 using the Apple Printer Driver 3.0?
    I had a very difficult time getting my new HP Officejet Pro 8620 functioning as well as it does now.  I just tried scanning something as editable text for the first time and it ended up being scanned as a pdf.  At one point in my various tries there was a note on the printer screen that I did not have the HP OCR software installed.
    This may be because the resolution to my installation problems with the HP Officejet Pro 8620 seems to have been reverting to operating with the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package instead of the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg installation package.
    I do not, therefore, have the HP Scan application on my computer now which is where HP says its OCR software can be found.
    So what I'm afraid of is that I'm now running well with the HP-Apple driver but if I do go back and install the HP Officejet Pro v12.32.0 driver software with the HP installer, in order to access the OCR softwware in HP Scan application, I'll mess up everything else.
    Is there any chance that the HP-Apple Printer Drivers 3.0 package I have installed also includes OCR software?  If so where can I find instructions for activating it and using it with the HP 8620's scanner?
    Or can I only get OCR capability with the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package?
    Any experience with this?  Should I leave well enough alone?  Or can I somehow install the HP-Officejet-Pro-8620_v12.32.0.dmg package without messing up my current functionality?
    Thanks
    Steve

    The printer driver that is installed automatically from Apple doesn't scan. The scanner part can be accessed through Image Capture, but I don't think that does any OCR on the scan. You'd need a separate program. As you noted, many of the bundled software programs have OCR built-in (albeit limited). From my experience, that is only activated when you scan to "searchable" PDF or something similar. You would then have to extract the text from the PDF.
    I don't have an HP printer/scanner, so take this all with a grain of salt.
    If you can just install the Scanner utilities, that shouldn't affect the printer portion.
    Your other option would be to purchase separate OCR software. Unless you need to scan lots of documents into text, you should further investigate installing the HP scan utilities.

  • Acrobat 9.5 - use Touchup text Tool to edit PDF. Updates do not display. But, if I "save as" Word doc, the edits appear in Word. This feature worked in earlier versions of 9.x patches.

    I have a suspicion you're working with a scanned document that has had OCR run to recognize the text. The recognized text may be stored on an invisible layer above the image of the text, and that is what you're toucing up. It's invisible, so you don't see it, but retains the changes, so exporting produces the new edits.
    When you run OCR to recognize scanned text,, try using the ClearScan option, instead of Searchable Text. See this help page on Acrobat (this is for version X, but still applies):

  • I cannot edit text in a PDF created from scanning

    I am using Adobe XI, and I have created a PDF by scanning a document.
    When I do click on a paragraph to edit text, all the page appears selected, it seems to be an image. At that moment a message pops up saying: this page has not editable text or digitalized content. The editing tools are disabled, so I cannot edit text.
    If I do export a page to Excel or Word, I can edit text there, although there are some kind of data that is not converted properly (even when I have executed OCR).
    I have edited preferences, but I am not sure if I did it correctly.
    Thanks

    I am using Acrobat XI Pro on PC.
    Of course, I have done all the steps you mention,  but I wanted someone to confirm me if these setting values are correct in order to obtain the best results. I repeat the paragraph of my previous discussion that I want to clarify, just in case some of you can help me, mainly about optimization
    I digitalized the document from the scanner. This scanner is installed in the net, so I personalized the settings in Acrobat and I chose memory mode instead of native mode.
    Mode color: black on white
    Resolution: 600 ppp
    As you say in your mail, I understand I should choose ClearScan OCR not searchable just at this moment.
    Well, and what about the options of optimization?, JBIG2 (without lost)?, 4 CCITT?
    And filters?, I have: activated, low, activated, medium
    Are these values congruous or compatible?
    Thank you

  • Editing text in all PDF files

    Hello,
    I am very new to Acrobat and am trying to change some text in some of my documents, but can't seem to be able to do so. I am using Acrobat X Pro and i use the "Edit Document Text" tool, but the cursor does not change to the text editing cursor. I tried opening other PDF documents and it seems that I am able to edit text in some PDF files, but not the text in others. For the one that I am trying to edit, I did the "Recognize Text" function. I can high-light the text and even search the document for certain words, but can't seem to change any of the text. I can select the text to cross out or put a comment in them, but still can't remove some words/letters & retype.
    This is really frustrating, as these documents are the only reason I wanted Acrobat X - so I can edit a few words on them.
    Please help!

    Nono, I've been trying to say that I CAN high-light it. I can high-light any text in there, select it for commentating, do the strike-out notes on it. I can even do ctrl+F and search for a word that's within the document and it will find that word. There is no "original" PDF because that IS the original.
    I can do everything else to the text except actually edit it (basically deleting or changing the words).
    This is frustrating because other files that people send me that are generated via an automated system are editable, but my own PDF files are not, and I want to know what that difference is and how I can change it so that I can edit my own PDF files.

  • Making some words Bold/Underlined of an editable text field in Adobe Form?

    I have a a requirement of making some words Bold/Underlined of an editable text field in Adobe Form. I have created a "Text Field" and in "Value" tab as default value I have written the textline and made the field Type as "User entered - optional" so that at runtime user can edit that text. Now they want some words of the whole text line should display as Bold and some as Underlined. Can you please help me to meet this requirement.

    Just an idea, but you might try re-printing that original PDF file to the Adobe PDF printer (saving it as another pdf file, essentially). Then try again to add form fields. (You can copy the form fields you've already created and paste them onto the new file -- just copy and paste while in forms edit mode). A second shot in the dark if the first doesn't work might be to try again, but change the print settings when printing to PDF. I've ready some reports that the dpi setting can have an effect. Maybe go from 600 to 150 and see if that works. Let me know which, if either, of these ideas works.

  • Is it possible to add files to a PDF form submission?

    Hi there,
    Someone asked me to add an attachment field to a PDF dynamic form. Based on previous research we figured out that will not be possible: our users don't have Acrobat - just Reader - and we won't purchase Reader Extensions. How about using a form field to help the user send the attachments that a are required with that give form? For instance:
    - User would fill in the form and when asked for attachments he/she would browse for the file.
    - The form would save the file name as text on the form (like the answer for a text field)
    - The PDF form would memorize the location of the file(s)
    - When the user hits "Submit" the PDF form would gather the files listed for attachment and add them as attachments - in additon to itself - to the email created by the submission button.
    That way the attachments are not saved as part of the PDF form, but the PDF form is automating the process of adding them to the submission email.
    Is that doable with LiveCycle Designer? Any tips on how to go about coding/building those actions?
    Thanks in advance,
    AV

    If your user is using Adobe Reader and wants to add an attachment to your PDF file... you need Adobe LiveCycle Designer Reader Extensions to do that...
    If your user is using Adobe Acrobat Pro then u can add attachments with this
    var myDoc = event.target;
    var sFile = "myFile" + NumericField1.rawValue;
    myDoc.importDataObject({cName: sFile});
    var myDataObject = myDoc.getDataObject(sFile);
    var sFileName = myDataObject.path;
    ListBox1.addItem(sFileName,sFile);
    NumericField1.rawValue = NumericField1.rawValue + 1;
    you can also remove the file
    myDoc.removeDataObject(sFile);
    you can also open the file
    myDoc.exportDataObject({ cName: sFile, nLaunch: 2 });

  • How do I edit a document in PDF form?

    How do I edit a document in PDF form. I have a resume I need to edit and I've tried everything.

    1. Export your PDF file to Word using Export PDF tool in PDF Pack service then edit the file in MS Office.
    2. Open in Acrobat XI Pro then you can do minor text editing using Tools > Content Editing > Edit Text & Images tool.  You can download Adobe Acrobat XI Pro trial version from www.adobe.com.

    I created a pdf form from a Word doc with 9 pt aerial font formatting; the text on the pdf form is aerial 9 pt, but the fields are formatted in courier 12 pt - How do I reformat the font in the fields??

    You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:
    // Mouse Up script for a temporary button (or bookmark, etc.)
    // Change the font and font size for all text fields in this document
    for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i += 1) {
        var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
        if (f.type === "text") {
            f.textFont = font.Helv;
            f.textSize = 9;
    It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that.

  • Is it possible to save a copy of a PDF form created in Livecycle Designer ES3?

    Hey,
    I've created a form using the trial version of Livecycle ES3 however when I view the form I get this message:
    "you cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like to keep a copy for your records."
    Is there a way around this/ is this just with the trial version? If I download the full version will the forms then be saveable?
    I don't want to send out the form to people unless they are able to save a copy as I think that this could cause issues.
    Answers much appreciated!

    If you use the File > Distribute Form this does allow recipients to save data entered into the form.  However, beware of the following points:
    1.  File > Distribute Form will take you through a process to gather information about your preferences for distribution including destination email addresses.  Once you have gone through this process, subsequently there is no option to change or reset any of the original inputs.  For example, if you wish to change the destination email address, you need to open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and go to Edit > Preferences and select the identity category.  The email address can be changed there.
    2.The File > Distribute Form, seems to make other changes to the PDF too, because it uses the email address entered when Distribute Form is first used, to submit the PDF by email.  If you have an email submit button in your form, like I did, this does not work any longer in Adobe Reader.  Clicking it now simply prompts to save a local copy of the PDF. The submit does work in Acrobat Pro, but this is useless for a distributed form.

  • I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I need to download Adobe Digital Editions. Is there any way to download an earlier version so I don't have to upgrade my system?

    I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8, and I need to download Adobe Digital Editions. Is there any way to download an earlier version so I don't have to upgrade my system?

    OT,
    I have the exact same question as heathy32 (I just want to get a photobook ordered, but I'm currently running iPhoto 7.1.5 with OS X 10.6.8 and discovered right at the end of the process of making this photobook that it's no longer supported with the versions I have) but I just wanted to check something with you before I proceed with the iLife 11 disk...
    Namely: do I need download the iPhoto Library Upgrader first?
    There seem to be issues discussed in other forums about the Upgrader, I want to make sure I don't do something like downloading it if that isn't strictly necessary.
    I am perfectly happy just to install iPhoto 9 and upgrade to 9.2.3 using the updater you link to, just so long as I can get a photo book printed!
    Once that is safely out of the way, I intend to upgrade to Maverick etc.
    Your thoughts very welcome
    Thank you.

    Hi Marcus,
    The links in your post have been removed (by the moderators?) so I can't see the logos. That being said, unless the logos were created in Photoshop and you could open the original files in PS, I doubt you will be able to edit the text. You'll probably have to re-create them, either in Photoshop or (preferably) Illustrator.

  • I can't edit text on a pdf file in adobe acrobat

    I need to edit the text on the pdf file but I can't and this message keeps showing up: " This form cannot be edited in Acrobat. Please use Adobe LiveCycle Designer to edit this form.
    There are no security on this file. The only thing that is not allowed is to create templates. When I check the document properties description, on the PDF producer it says adobe distiller 7.0.5 (windows)
    I downloaded the adobe livecycle designer but I couldn't edit the text there either... When I open the file it says the text is not downloaded so it replaced it with another text, I clicked ok but then the text didn't change, This message showed up:
    I really need to edit the text on this pdf file because it's important. Can anyone help? Greatly appreciate it. By the way, this is a pdf fillable form that you can fill out on acrobat and that is the only thing it seems like it will let me do this file. I don't want to fill it out, I want to edit whats on it. It's one of those forms that you get from NJ courts.

    Ok, what we can tell you is that if this is a LiveCycle form (and we can be pretty sure it is), that you are absolutely right. Acrobat can fill it, and nothing else. These are a very special kind of PDF, where all the text is in a special XML format that Acrobat can only show, not edit.
    So, you are on the right track: if it can be edited, you need LiveCycle Designer. Unfortunately, we don't know much about it in this forum, so please try posting here: http://forums.adobe.com/community/livecycle/livecycle_modules_and_development_tools/livecy cle_designer_es
    If the form is publicly available, it may help if you include the URL (web address) when you post.

  • How to edit text in a PDF on an iPad

    Away from my iMac, I am trying to edit text on a contract PDF on my iPad. Have not been able to do so in any app I've found. Any suggestions?

    PDFs are not meant to be edited (except minor edits such as adding a word or changing spelling).
    Adding paragraphs and such is not accomplished very easily, even with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    If you want to change something, change the original docuemnt then print it to PDF.
