Is it possible to edit vector art pasted into Pages 4.1?

Is it possible to edit a vector shape created in Illustrator and pasted into Pages 4.1? I can adjust the transparency, scale it, even put a drop shadow on it, but I can't change the color which is all I want to do.

It has a drawing tool at the end of the Shapes menu but it is oddball and a little clumsy compared with what Illustrator offers and it only edits Pages' native objects.

You can do that with PhotoPad. You take a screen shot, crop it in PhotoPad and it is saved to Saved Phototos. Then you just go the Media section and import the croped photo.

Unable to refresh spreadsheet pasted into pages from numbers

Hi. I'm building a business plan using pages and as we paste the financials into the pages document, I am not able to refresh the spreadsheet in pages when it is changed and saved in numbers. In the help tab and on the forums a "refresh" button is referred to but I can't find it. Some other notes. I seem to have built the plan in "word processor" in pages instead of in "page layout." Can't tell the distinction between the two. Also, I'm taking a full budget in numbers and hiding most of the cells before pasting into pages. Having this capability work as "advertised" would be a huge time saver.

I'll tackle one part of your questions:
*Word Processing mode:* The document has a default area of text inside the set margins. Text fills this area and flows from page to page as needed. The pages form with the text, expanding and retreating with the tide of text within. This text can be indexed in the T.O.C. and may have footnotes. WP mode also has background and master objects which appear on each page and can be deleted from those pages at one stroke.
*Layout Mode:* The document consists of nothing but individual unconnected pages. Everything on those pages is a floating individual object, with the exception of headers and footers. Text can be linked between textboxes (WP can do this too) by manually linking them, even across pages. Layout mode is much more restricted than WP but simplifies designs by removing some of the clutter.
You can not simply turn one mode into the other. But you can copy/paste text and objects between them.

How do you retain text formatting when pasting into Pages?

Hi
I often copy and paste text into and out of emails. But whenever I paste into Pages it removes all the emboldening or italicisation. Once pasted, the text is all in one style (the one selected when I hit paste).
Generally there is too much text for me to comb through and find each instance. Is there a setting in Pages that I can change to prevent this happening?
I'm using Pages version 5.2.2 on iOS 10.9.4.

On Mavericks 10.9.5, I created some Rich Text in the email compose window. I copied this text to the clipboard. Pressing command+V in TextEdit or Pages v5.2.2 deposits the original Rich Text in the respective application document. No monochrome for me.

Possible? Edit & Delete SBs on one page

I'm having difficulty to have a Delete and Update server
behaviour on
one page.
I have a page displaying all my registered users. This page
has a repeat
region server behaviour of 30 records. On this page I want to
be able to
delete users as well as update their details.
I get this to work with only one SB at a time, but not both.
I have a
form for each SB and every one works perfectly well when the
other is
not on the page.
When I have both on the same page, I get this error:

What I usually do is have a link which says Delete Record. I
use a Go
to Detail Page SB here. I then have a new page which pulls up
the
details of record I want to delete and I say are you sure you
want to
delete this record. I then insert the regular Delete Record
SB on this
page.
It acts as a confirmation that I'm deleting the correct
record and gets
around this problem.
I do the same for the Updating record.

Inserting Clip Art In A Pages 09 Document

How do you insert clip art in to a Pages 09 document? I am new to iWork after using Appleworks for many years. I have many CDs of Nova Art Explosion Clip Art that I want to use in my documents. I can not seem to find any information on how to insert clip art. All help greatly appreciated.

Just to let you know Pages does not use .wmf and .pict is mostly history now.
*The main formats that Pages will use are:*
.jpeg, jpeg2000, .tif, .png, .gif, .pdf and .ai saved with .pdf preview.
Of the *Nova Art Explosion Clip Art* the most useful will be the vector .eps files which Pages will convert to .pdf when imported.
*Best is to open and convert the .eps clipart in Preview*
Which does several things:
1. It converts them to .pdf
2. It converts them to color managed cmyk
3. It shrinks the image selection to the image's bounding box ie gets rid of all the background and only selects the image.
4. As long as there is no opaque background drawn as part of the clipart, you will have a transparent background.
5. It will save the file as a very small .pdf file
6. The pdf file will be viewable in Finder on the *Icon Preview* or in CoverFlow, also when you view it in your *Open dialog box*.
*There are 4 ways to import the clipart*
1. Drag and drop it into Pages from Finder.
If you drop it into text it will become an inline graphic and act as it it was a character in the text, moving with the text.
If you drop it on a non-text area it will create its own image box and fill it.
If you drag it onto an image placeholder box it will either neatly fit into the image box or be cropped, however the box has been set-up.
2. You can use +Menu > Import > Choose… > browse to image > select > OK+ This will drop the image into the middle of your page view at its original size in its own image box.
3. You can make a collection of clipart in a named folder then drag that folder into the top pane of the Media Browser:
+Menu > View > Show Media Browser > Photos+
When you click on the folder in the Media Browser the contents will be displayed in the preview window underneath from where they can be dragged into the Pages layout or onto image boxes.
4. Pages has something called Shapes which you can add by going to the Shapes menu on the window Toolbar. These are native Pages drawings. They can be scaled, colored and contain text or images which are cropped by the shape.
Right at the bottom of the Shapes menu is a pen tool which lets you draw your own shapes, however it is one of the worst drawing tools I have encountered on the Mac.
Shapes can be imported from .svg files. .svg is an open vector or vector + bitmap file format readable directly in most *Web Browsers*. Unfortunately they are not directly supported in Pages, but they can be imported using svg2key into Keynote as shapes, from where they can be cut and pasted into Pages.
OmniGraffle has sets of clipart called Stencils, these can be cut and pasted into Keynote and possibly into Pages, but requires you to have a copy of OmniGraffle on your machine.
A great deal of commercial and free clipart is available on the Net, much of it substantially better than the crude, cheap looking Nova material which was mostly "sourced" from PC clipart nad has that sort of style and color palette.
ClipArt can be very good and can be very bad, make sure you select the appropriate style and format for your work. You can scour through the Nova collection for the few good examples and make your own selection converted to useful formats such as .pdf and keep them in labelled folders which you can then select from previews using large *Icon View* or CoverFlow in Finder.
You can also copy and paste clipart from AppleWorks.

Cutting and pasting cells out of Numbers into Pages

I'm not sure whether this is a Numbers problem a Pages problem. I have a table of cells in Numbers. Some of the cells have basic calculations in such as =sum(). All looks fine in Numbers, so I select and copy the cells and paste into Pages - but the cells with the calculations appear with the red error triangles and refer to an invalid cell reference or an error in the cells.
The really irritating thing is that if I paste the same table of cells in Word, it works perfectly.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

When we copy a block of cells (E12:L30) then paste it in Pages, cells are 'renamed'.
The top_left cell of the block becomes A1.
If a cell in a colum A thru D was referenced in the copied block, we get the red triangle because the formula is ponting to an illegal address.
The workaround is simple:
Select the block
Copy it
Paste values on itself
Copy
Paste in Pages
Back to Numbers
Undo Paste so the original formulas will be restaured.
Last year, I asked Apple to change the Edit Menu this way:
replace Paste Values by Copy Values.
It would cange nothing for the standard copy/paste
When we need to paste values,
the protocol Copy / Paste Values
would be replaced by Copy Values / Paste
So it would change nothing in Numbers but it would solve the problem which you described.
It was not applied by Apple.
You may
_Go to "Provide Numbers Feedback" in the "Numbers" menu_, ask for such a feature.

I like to copy text from various sources
then later review the text of the copied information to render my own conclusions.

Only if the iBook is NOT DRM protected, whch means no for the majority of titles in iTunes. You can Copt from your own PDFs or from something like the iOS User Guide, some free titles, but not from most things.
You will find that to be the case with most other book apps as well.

Incomplete pasting in Pages

I'm trying out Pages (thinking of buying it, but it needs to work properly...), thinking it might be better than Word. But something super basic seems crazy illogical, and I wonder if I'm missing something. OK, so I copy the contents of a long Mail message and paste into a new Pages doc. But it only pastes part of it -- the part that shows on the visual area of the page. The rest isn't there. It's not that it's just down off the page and you can scroll to it, it's gone. It only pastes what will fit into the area that's visible in the Pages document, and the rest is gone. Like, huh? This seems, well, utterly moronic. Why would it do that? Maybe I'm the dunce and am missing something. But copy-paste is pretty basic and should work, I'd think...
Advice, or is this a (fatal) flaw of Pages? Thanks.

Thanks -- yeah, I tried that as well (being sure I hadn't clicked "text box" and even typing some text first, to be sure it wasn't in a box, and then pasting). Played around with it more, and it seems that, for some reason, when I copy from a Mail message and paste into Pages, it automatically inserts the Mail message's text/contents as a text box. Again, even though I don't have "text box" selected. As a test, I went to a web page and copied its contents and pasted into Pages, and it worked as it should -- as free-flowing text, no box. Seems that for some reason it treats Mail contents as a text box automatically (despite my not having "text box" selected). This holds true whether I "select all" in the Mail message or I just manually copy part of it.
Yet if I copy and paste a Mail message via "Paste & Match Style" then it pastes as free-flowing text (no box). Hmmm.

Using a Vector Art File as a matte for an image collage

II have a vector art file of a paw print. I would like to use it with a variety of photos to create a collage. I have the image files selected and the vector art file sized, but what I can't figure out is how to have the images seen ONLY inside each toe/pad of the paw print. Once the file is completed, I would like to be able to flow text around the paw prints so I don't want the entire art board area to be white as this would effect my text wrap properties. Any and all suggestions are welcome!

I developed a Photo Collage Toolkit for Photoshop. I feel its very easy to create PSD templates that can be populated with images.

Photoshop scripting is powerful and I believe this package demonstrates this video showing a 5 image collage PSD template being populates with images:
The package includes four simple rules to follow when making Photo Collage Template PSD files so they will be compatible with my Photoshop scripts.
Size the photo collage templates for the print size you want - width, height and print DPI resolution.
Photo collage templates must have a Photoshop background layer. The contents of this layer can be anything.
Photo collage templates must have alpha channels named "Image 1", "Image 2", ... "Image n".
Photo collage templates layers above the background layers must provide transparent areas to let the images that will be placed below them show through.

Is it possible to edit a number in the phone dial keypad or we have to wait till iOS 12?

I use an iPhone 5c and and i've been waiting for a cursor on the dial pad after every iOS update since I started using an iPhone.
one most annoying thing is realising you omitted a number from a long phone number or a recharge code, you have to clear all and start again.
Check the image below, If you want to insert the number 2, you'll have to clear everything, and start all over.
One more thing is number suggestion or smart dialling; if I wanna call 'Joe' in my contacts, shouldn't I be able to press 5-6-3 to get names suggestions within that number combinations?
Why does Apple want to wait for iOS 12 to do this? Do they ever check other phone OS? I love iPhone but sometimes its hard we have to wait for two years before they introduce some simple feature that already existed.
Just because they're focusing on new groundbreaking features doesn't mean they can't make that possible?
We know its impossible for Apple to put FM radio in the iPhone because they want to sell the iPhone 8 with a new fm radio feature; but a better dial keypad, come on!! Make some upgrade.
My question here is... is it possible for Apple to make the phone dial pad editable aside Copy/Paste options or make it suggest names when u start dialling; or is there a Setting I need to change to make that possible?

You can import the pdf as an image but it is not editable.
If you are after the text, open it in Preview and copy the text and paste it wherever you want, or open it in Adobe Acrobat Pro and convert it into a Word .doc.

Can i reshape a vector art in AfterEffects CS4?

I created a vector art in illustrator which i then imported into After Effects CS4 and applied the write on effect on it. As the write on effect is happening i want part of my vector art to reshape into a different image (vector art). Is that possible? I am using the word "reshape" for the transformation of the image, i'm not sure if that is correct.

Your challenge is you want to take that shape and have it animate into another shape? I would use mask, via double click that shape traced out using a mask. Thereby launching the second window (Layer window) to then see the drop drowm menu assigning your mask to that mask after enabling animate path icon in T.line. This way second mask is not started rather it will now animate to your second shape. Don't forget to move your cursor down the TL before you draw your second shape.
If you are trying to animate your asset into a another asset, see transition effects to browse in bridge for a suitable transition.

Exporting Flash vector art for print

I would like to export art created in Flash as a vector
format for print. Exporting as either AI or EPS from Flash seems to
have many limitations: no support for masks, alpha transparency, or
editable text with fonts embedded. Has anyone found a workflow to
create print-ready vector art using Flash?
I have tried many combinations of Flash, Freehand, and
Illustrator with no success. (Freehand will open SWF files, but it
rasterizes the vector art when exporting as either EPS or PDF).
Working in Flash Pro 8, but from the Flash CS3 documentation
it doesn't look like there are additional options for file export.
Is it true that any vector art exported from Flash loses font info,
masking, and transparency?

Has anyone found a good solution for this? I need to export character art from Flash to use for print and consumer product items. Qualtity vectors are required.
The "best" solution I've found so far is to "Print" as either a .PDF or .PS file, then open that file in Illustrator. It expands all the gradients, and creates very complex vectors, but it's better than the standard export to .AI function, which gives offending operator "bg" errors. Still, it is a sub-par result, and I end up having to recreate art anyway.
(I'm using Flash CS4.)
Dear Adobe, this should be a no-brainer ... Please introduce a true vector export feature from Flash to Illustrator that generates art we can actually use.

Can you recommend any good tutorials for using paths/vector art in Photoshop?
Honestly, I've had a good look for even one - without much success.
I Have lots of experience with paths/vector art in Illustrator, Fireworks and InDesign but I believe you really can do great things with them in Photoshop now for illustration work.
i'm just baffled by it. I can fill and stroke and edit a vector shape in PS - but if I custom DRAW a vector path or shape, things get confusing!
Hoping someone can point me in a helpful direction

I wouldn't claim to know everything there is to know, but I'm reasonably certain it hasn't changed.
Are the 'shapes' just vector masks with a raster element inside?
Yes. That's an accurate enough description.
And if you apply a colour to a path that you've drawn - does it rasterise?
It doesn't have to rasterize. If you see color, it's pixels.
I was definitely of the impression that a lot more could be done in PS these days that might formerly have been done in ILLUSTRATOR.
The shape/path tools in Photoshop have been enhanced and improved in recent years, but the product of their use still differs from Illustrator's true vector output.
