Is it possible to encrypt an album?

I have a lot of private photos on my computer, and I also have a lot of friends who like to look all my photos trough. So do anybody knows if it's possible to encrypt an album?
Thanks in advance!
Line

No it's not.
For images you want to hide from your Mother, put them in a separate Library. If she's a computer whiz, put that Library on an encrypted disk image.

I'm new to itunes and need some help.  Can anyone tell me if it is possible to download an album which has explicit songs without actually downloading the songs that are explicit?

See if there's a non-explicit version and download that?  Just download the individual songs you want, and not the others?
Honestly, your phrasing doesn't make sense.  You're asking how to download an album without downloading its tracks?

  • Is it possible to create an album in iTunes 11?

Is it possible to create an album (not just a folder on the left) in iTunes (11)? A while back I purchased an entire comedy album but they came over as individual songs. They are not in album form with other comedy albums in my Comedy folder. Very frustrating because they don't always play in the order they're supposed to.

Yes, of course. See this web page for more information: http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

  • Is it possible to encrypt the content of an MSI?

Is it possible to encrypt the content of an MSI or at least obscure data/strings stored in it using a standard Visual Studio Installer project (Visual Studio 2013 in this case)?
For example, settings are stored in plain text, I'd prefer they weren't, and ideally, the data won't be ciphered until put into the MSI by the installer project.
I've tried doing this with an installer action, but it isn't called until after the application is installed. So, while this does mean the settings are encrypted once installed to the user's machine, if the MSI is unpacked (which is easy to do) the settings
    are plainly visible.

There is no built-in way to encrypt an MSI file. You'd need to encrypt it yourself, ship it, then decrypt it so Windows can install it. After that, there is a cached copy in \Windows\installer that you can't remove because it's needed for uninstall, and
the unencrypted MSI needs to be available for repair. So there's no practical way to do this.
If the problem is some data in the MSI file, then why not encrypt it and have the app decrypt it when it's used? There are APIs to modify MSI files (see WiRunSql.vbs and others in the Windows SDK) so a post-build step can encrypt the data and store it in
    the MSI file.
If the data is in a property, then you also have the problem that installing the MSI with a log will show the values. There is no VS support for this, but you'd need to use MsiHiddenProperties so that your secret data doesn't show up in a log if it is not
    encrypted in the MSI file.

  • Is it possible to password protect albums in iPhoto

    Hi all,
some of the albums I have in iPhoto contain material not suitable to everyone having acces to my Mac. So I would like to password protect certain albums. Is that possible?

Ehhh indeed, there are a couple of very easy ways to do this:
Have two accounts: one for you and one for everybody else.
    Or
Put these files on an encrypted disk image.
Look at it from a programmer's point of view: you want everything to be open and accessible except for the bits you don't want open and accessible. These bits that are not to be shared are arbitrary and defined by you alone and based on content. iPhoto may know that Jpeg is a photograph, but has no way of knowing what it's a photo of. The only way to protect things is to change their format. So, you encrypt the file. iPhoto doesn’t offer encryption - it's a $15 photo app and does not claim to offer everything -  so you use the two options the  OS offers for doing the same job.

  • Is it possible to encrypt a single mail account?

Hi, apologies to regulars if this topic has been addressed. I looked for posts about encrypting mail, and mostly found stuff about encrypting messages as they were sent/received (PGP type problems). I have a very specific question that doesn't seem to be addressed.
Once IMAP mail is downloaded to the drive, it's stored as plaintext files, right? For instance, under this path...
    /Users/username/Library/Mail/[email protected]/INBOX.imapmbox/Messages
...I can use 'cat' or 'less' to spit out the text of my various messages.
I'd like to avoid turning on FileVault, because that's overkill for my needs. I don't need to encrypt ALL of my documents, and from what I hear, doing so will make using Time Machine much less convenient. I simply want to bundle the entire contents of this particular IMAP account into an encrypted format. Is it possible to replace the .../[email protected]/ folder with an encrypted disk image? i.e. Can I put all the folders currently under that path into an image named something like [email protected], and have the system ask for the image's password either when Mail launches, or when a folder under the account is clicked? I'm hesitant to just go ahead and try this because I don't want to screw up my Library. But if it would work, it would certainly be adequate to my needs.
I feel comfortable with the overall security on my machine in terms of use; I've got a strong password, and I don't store the password for my work email, so I don't think anyone could log on while the machine was unattended and use Mail to mess with my account (send messages as me, or whatever). However, were the machine stolen, and the drive removed, I'm pretty sure they could read through my past messages, since those are just stored as plaintext on the drive.
I really wish the OSX team would add a feature that would allow you to add a password for a folder, from the Get Info interface, and subsequently have the OS ask for the password any time it needed to read anything under that folder's path hierarchy. (Every file under that hierarchy would be encrypted, individually, using the password.) This would be preferable to the disk-image approach. Among other reasons, it would improve backups -- the files would still be dated individually. (Currently, for my encrypted disk image full of work files, every time any file changes -- almost every day! -- a new version of the entire disk image gets created on my Time Capsule.)

You can already do that. The process is a bit convoluted and not something most end users need to do. That is why Apple isn't going to promote it. Also, since this would be the only place your mail is stored encrypted, it isn't that great for security anyway. The people you send messages to and any e-mail servers between you and them all store your messages unencrypted. However, it would provide you with a little bit of enhanced physical security. So, here goes....
    0) Quit Mail
    1) Create yourself a read/write, encrypted disk image and store it somewhere on your machine.
    2) It is important to make sure you store the password in your keychain. Your keychain itself is encrypted, so no harm there.
    3) Open the encrypted disk image and copy your e-mail mailbox folder to it. For example, I just tested this using "/Users/jdaniel/Library/Mail/[email protected]".
    4) Now, create an alias to that mailbox folder inside the encrypted disk image. Select the folder inside the disk image and hold down Option ⌘ to make an alias. Drag the alias to the desktop. You will have a little circular arrow in the corner of the icon to indicate an alias. It is important that this is an old-school Macintosh Alias file, not a UNIX symbolic link.
    5) Take your old e-mail Mailbox folder and rename it, move it, or otherwise get it out of the way.
    6) Move that alias you just created in your Library > Mail folder. It should have the same name as the old folder you just moved.
    7) Double-click the alias to make sure it works. It should open the disk image and mount it without prompting you for a password.
    8) Eject the disk image.
    9) Launch Mail. With any luck, it should automatically mount the disk image when you launch it.
You will have to manually eject the disk image after quitting mail. There are some important caveats:
    1) Time Machine will not be able to back up this disk image effectively. It will be like using Entourage.
    2) There are no guarantees with this method. I fully expect it to corrupt that mailbox at some point. You have been warned.
If you wanted to get really fancy, you could do all of this with an autofs mount. Then it would automatically unmount the disk image too. Good luck with that.
So there you go. Does Apple's "Keep It Simple" strategy make more sense now

PS: Did I mention backing up in there somewhere? Probably a really good idea.

  • Possible to encrypt only ONE email folder?

I would really love some help with this; I've been banging my head against the wall trying to achieve something that is seemingly so simple and basic.
We want to use an Email app that will allow us to encrypt only ONE email folder. Access to the rest of the email should be open to all users of the computer, just the one folder needs to be encrypted or password protected. Apparently this is not possible in Outlook, because in Outlook for Mac all of the folders are now integrated into one database and so cannot be encrypted individually as they can on PC.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to achieve this? I am considering using Mac's Mail, but can't find Mail file structure on my Lion machine to see if I can access the individual mailboxes separately. Does anyone know where to find Mail's folder structure? I looked in the Library but found nothing for Mail, as it used to be in previous OSs.
Am open to third party software work arounds, other email clients, whatever. I would really appreciate any suggestions!

It's located in your user Library folder which is now normally hidden in Lion.
In the Finder hold down the option key to reveal the Library folder and select Go>Library>Mail and you find the Mail files.

  • Is it possible to make an album, with seperate, and different artwork for each track? Thanks.

Got a few tracks and I was wondering if its possible to make like an album, but each track different art?

You can give each track its own artwork. iTunes will normally display the artwork of track 1 in album listings. The individual track art will show in the small window at the top of the screen when playing, or the artwork panel of the mini player, or the now playing window on a device. Try it and see.

  • In iTunes, is it possible to sort by albums, without all the songs listed below each album title?

It seems there was something in the recent iOS7 release that have made a few changes in the way itunes is viewed on the iPhone.  In the past I would sort by artist, which would then show all the albums. Now it shows all the albums, but with all the songs listed below each album title.  I have several artist with over 50 albums, I don't want to scroll through all of the songs.  I clocked it at 1.3 miles to scroll through all of them.  If I sort by album, it does not group by the artist, just the album title. Any possible way to get this view back?

No, I meant if you tap on the album title in the Artist viewso, does it collapse the song listing? Next, I asked if all the songs were not on the phone, like the ones you showed in the photo (with the cloud symbol). It appears that most of these songs are not really on your phone. What happens if you go to Settings>Music>Show All Music>Off as I mentioned in the last post. Here is a screen shot of my music app in Artist view.
This is a mix of songs purchased from iTunes and self-ripped CDs that I have in my collection.

  • Is it possible to auto create albums based off of the saved keywords

I would like to import my photos but have them organized in albums by the keywords saved in the image tags. Is this possible? I have a large collection that I currently manage on a PC with Abobe Elements 5 and I don't want to have to recreate each album.
    Thanks!
    Larry

I believe Aperture should import keywords you have attached to images.
From there, it's really easy to make a smart album based on one or more keywords - you would want to make these folders after import though, then the simple keyword search field will be populated with all possible keywords.

  • Is it possible to encrypt only certain folders on your HD?

When choosing file vault to encrypt your files is it possible to choose only certain portions of your hard drive to encrypt or certain folders? Or do you just need to encrypt the whole thing?

FileVault encrypts only the user's Home folder, nothing else. It cannot be used to selectively choose what to encrypt. If this is your goal, then you can use third-party encryption software - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate - or create a separate encrypted disc image on which you can store the files/folders you want encrypted.

  • Music streaming not possible over encrypted wireless connection

    Hi,
    I have two AE bases,
the first is used for wireless connection to the wired network and the internet
the second is connected to the hifi system and has been configured as a client in the network defined by the first one.
The problem is that the moment I use encryption no music streaming will be possible any more. Is this a feature? or a bug? or did I miss anything?
    Thanks,
    Andre

If you are going to implement encrytion (like WPA) on a wireless network that has previously been unsecured - make sure you enable it on the client first, and on the base station second. If you do it the other way around you will lose access to the client and you will no longer be able to make the required configuration changes so that its settings match that of the base station.
