Is it possible to erase contents on a RW disc and reburn new material?

I have a large number of RW CD's that have obsolete material. Can these materials be erased and the discs reused again to burn new material?
Thanks.

Yes, it's possible ... but not advisable.  CD RWs  have a limited life, both the number of rewrites and life in general regardless of the number of rewrites.  They are best used for short-term storage and definitely not for archival storage.  Your use of the words "obsolete material" would indicate the disks are already old.  I would not reuse them myself if they are over 2 years old.
To erase a CD RW, see this article.

    Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer.  After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab.  Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button.  Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button.  Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive.  If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive.  The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive.  After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Now complete the OS X installation.  At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer.  Instead just shut it off.  The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.

  • Moving Content to External Hard Drive and Using New Computers

Before doing this, I want to make sure I know how to do all of it:
We are going to buy two new laptops, and retire the old one. I want to move all of my iTunes content from the old laptop to an external hard drive attached to an Airport Extreme. I then want to be able to share the content between the two computers. I know how to do this, and plan to move the library data base files to the external hard drive, as well.
However, I also want to be able to continue synching all of the content to the Apple TV. To what should the Apple TV be synched after the content is moved to the external hard-drive and the old computer is replaced by two new computers? How is that done under the circumstances? And, in the meantime, will the Apple TV lose all of its content and need to be re-synched entirely from scratch, or will it continue recognizing the current iTunes library as moved to the external hard drive?
    Thanks!

This is an option, although as a note of caution; depending on how regularly you modify your library this could become a little bit of a chore. The option is likely a good one in many cases but not all.
In my own case I considered using an old mac as my media server in the sense mentioned by tmartine. (I do a bit of experimental stuff and need to restart my mac quite often, I also have 5 Apple tv's and a library which is too large to do anything but stream, my family don't take too kindly to my frequent restarts and I find myself waiting until the early hours).
However I also modify my itunes library on a daily basis, I buy quite a bit of stuff and also add my own movies regularly, as well as make several recordings a day through my eyetv, all this new content would need to be manually added to my (server) library (and deleted manually), I felt this would be too many extra things for me to do and so my personal preference is to have my itunes library on my main computer as the primary library.

  • HT201274 when contents are erased, is this a one-time action or is it possible to perform erase contents multiple times?

is "erase contents" a one-time action or can it be performed multiple times?

If the "new user"/thief restores the device as new, which he or she will have to do in order to get the iPad up and running, it will not be your iPad anymore anyway, because they will set it up with their own ID and you wouldn't be able to track it a second time.
Find My iPad/iPhone would be tied to your Apple ID. They will no longer be using your ID on their "new" iPad.

  • Is there a way to erase contents in cells more than one, without deleting the formatted background?

When using Numbers on iPad (Numbers '09, v2.3 on iPad, iOS v6.1.3), I want to erase contents in an area with more than 1 cell, e.g. 10 cells, without erasing/deleting the formatted background colour.
Using a right click on cells using Numbers on a Mac (Mac, OS X v10.8.4) you can differentiate between "delete content of cell" (where the background is maintained) and "delete all" (where both the content AND the background is deleted).
    Please, I need help.
    Kindly,
    Henning154

Just select the cells you want to delete and hit the delete button.
That works on my machine (Macbook Pro).
    The background remains unchanged.

  • My iphone 4s was stolen i have locked and set it up to erase content when the iphone is turned on, it has 'find my iphone' on it will i still be able to track it if it turns on?

My iphone 4s was stolen i have locked and set it up to erase content when the iphone is turned on, it has 'find my iphone' on it will i still be able to track it if it turns on? PLEASE HELP really want to find it

    You're welcome.
Once again, the Find My iPhone app has no effect on this.
Find My iPhone must be enabled with your iCloud account settings on the iPhone.
    Location Services must be enabled.
The iPhone must be connected to the internet via an available wi-fi network or via the carrier's cellular network.
If the iPhone is powered off, none of the Find My iPhone features can work, and the same if the thief or whoever has access to the iPhone has restored the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone on another computer.

  • I have some content in my library that I do not want to sync with my ipod touch. The content has previously been synced and I want to remove it without deleting it from my itunes library. Is this possible?

I have some music content in my itunes library that I do not want to sync with my ipod touch. The content has previously been synced and I want to remove it without deleting it from my itunes library. Is this possible?

    Hi Pez,
iTunes in the Cloud is not iCloud. Any songs that you have purchased but have not downloaded (or have deleted), go to iTunes in the cloud. The setting I mentioned will show all of your purchases in the various views in the Music app, whether they are on your device or not. If you turn that setting off, you will only see items that are actually on your device.
Glad to hear the second sync worked! But if they all start appearing again, make sure that setting is turned off
    Cheers,

  • How to I delete all contact on my iPhone at once. These are contacts ABOVE the contact folder that says From My Mac. I do not want to erase all of the other settings and content from my iPhone -- just the contacts.

How to I delete all contact on my iPhone at once? These are contacts ABOVE the contact folder that says, "From My Mac."
Someone said create a new empty folder on the computer and sync to that -- didn't work .
Another person said, "Reset information in settings to restore to the default." That would erase ALL of the conetent I have on the phone and I do not want to erase all of the other settings and content from my iPhone -- just the contacts.
There has to be a better way than gong through and deleting one-by-one.

Go into Settings...Mail, Calendar and Contacts and siwtch off the Contacts section from the account in question.
The phone should ask you if you want to keep or erase the contacts stored on you phone.
However, if they aren't synched to anything and only exist on your iPhone, you'll have to delete them all one by one

  • How is it possible to control content (also text) so that unsuitable sites cannot be searched?

Is it possible to use a 'Content Advisor' (like Windows has) within Firefox. Even if I apply and enable certain settings in Internet Options (in Windows), these settings are not upheld by Firefox. Is it possible to get Firefox to uphold the Windows Internet Options settings? If not, is it possible to establish Content settings within Firefox?

See the [[Parental Controls]] article for a list of ways you can do this.
