Is it possible to export songs from Ipod to library in itunes?

I need help, i cant figure out how to transfer songs from ipod to my computer Music Library and its really annoying me, please help, thanks

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The best option is to get an external harddrive for backup. Imagine if your iPod got stolen and your computer crashed. Or your iPod malfunctions when trying to recover music.

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation, also it won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. • Export Songs from iPod to the iTune Bibliothek

    Dear discussion forum,
I am a new iPod user. I bought the big one with the colour screen (5th generation???).
A friend of mine put songs into the iPod. Now I want to export them from my iPod to the bibliothek of iTune.
I did not find any hint (at least I did not see it) how to do that.
Might be someone could help me?
    Kind regards

    Tschüß Helmut,
I am sorry, but you cannot do this, as it is illegal. By the way, bibliothek is called a library in English

  • How do you exports songs from ipod to hard drive?

I just got a new computer and need to take the songs from my ipod and store them on my new computer....Also, is there an easy way to transfer my songs from my old computer to my new one???
    Thanks

"I just got a new computer and need to take the songs from my ipod and store them on my new computer"
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.

  • Is it possible to move songs from ipod to itunes?

i just bought a new macbook and proceeded to consolidate my files on itunes on my old pc. i then put that folder on an external drive which i plugged into my mac. unfortunately, it didn't seem to accept the .tmp files or the .xml file.
once i plugged it back into my pc, it showed me that i only had a few music files instead of them all.
so i ended up losing a lot of music.
most of my music is on my ipod...is there a way to get the music on my ipod to itunes without deleting anything?
    thanks in advance!

You've posted this in the "Mac OS X Technologies > iSync" forum.
iSync has nothing at all to do with iPods or Windows.
Please try one of the iTunes for Windows or iPod forums.

  • Is It Possible to Remove Songs from Apple TV But Not iTunes?

I want more space in my Apple TV for my movies/TV shows but a ton of the space being taken up is from my music library. I'd like to remove the music from ATV and just keep what songs I want on there and keep it all in iTunes.
    Is this possible?

I'm not sure I truly understand syncing. I have 34+ gigs of space taken up on music alone and would like to bring that down. I synced my ATV with my iMac and it added all the music to my ATV taking up the 34+ gigs and don't want all that space of the 160gb on the ATV used on music, so if I choose the custom sync and then choose only certain things in the music section will that space free up?
