Is it possible to find an NTSC production monitor for $600?

I can't take it any more! Not only can they not be calibrated, but the consumer TV's that I've been using as monitors when working in FCP have those darn optimizing circuits that constantly adjust the picture based on the overall composition of each frame. My predecessors here obviously did not frequent this discussion board, or they certainly would have budgeted for a real monitor.
I've been browsing B&H but they're just so darn expensive! Does anyone know of any resources for cheaper or used options?
Thanks,
Zap

studio x is right and has provided some good links.
is a blue check critical? no. is it beneficial? you bet! in your situation where it's not going to be moved, you have to weigh the cost/benefit ratio of not using a filter to look through.
when i go on a job whether it's mobile or in a studio, invariably i have to set up a monitor, fast. route bars to the room or monitor in question and having to carry a filter is another pain in my patoot. hit the blue check, zip zam boom calibrated monitor to assuage some producer's poor vision or lack of vision. or, if i'm calibrating a monitor wall because it's not been done in years and some director is yelling about my video levels which are actually fine, it's far easier to use the blue check.
one thing to be careful about is whether the blue check displays in gray scale or actually deactivates the red and green guns and displays in blue. i hate gray scale blue checks and would advise you to stay away from them.
i've been doing this for so long as well that many times i just eyeball the cyan/magenta bars when it comes to chroma phase if this is just for a producer playback somewhere and isn't critical.
be careful with used monitors as well. you don't know how it's been treated, whether it's been retubed or needs it, or some lame video guy has been messing around with the yokes inside because he thinks he knows what he's doing. i used to work with a V1 who did this.
good luck.

  • Can anyone help me find Office 2007 product key for preinstalled trial?

Hello - can someone advise, please? My laptop came with a preinstalled trial of Office 2007, which needs to be activated with a 25-digit code. The onscreen message says to follow the hotlnk to a Microsoft site, where advice on obtaining the code can be found. However, when I reach the Microsoft site a message tells me that the page does not exist. I've also tried using a code on a sticker on the base of the laptop but that doesn't seem to be the right one.
I've run out of ideas and the number of times I can use Office 2007 is running down - any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks.

I think the simple answer is that MS no longer offer 2007 trials and instead offer 2010 trials at [http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/try/try-office-2010-FX101868838.aspx?WT.mc_id=MiG_Products]

  • Is it possible to find out Available-To-Promise for Sales Bill of Material?

    Hi Forum,
Items in Sales BOM are not inventory. How could we answer a sales call for how many can be delivered?
Available to Promise works only for inventoried items (right?). So how could be know how many Sales BOM's cold be delivered?
Does MRP work for how many can be sold immediately by looking into inventories BOM items?
I am also testing, but any suggestions welcome please. Thank you.

    Hi,
You probably need a query report to produce what you need. Sales Bill of Material is only a name to represent the bundles of inventory items. The answers rely on those components directly.

  • HELP!!! got mac mini, but don't no where to find a 12-15" monitor for it

    i need recommendations

You can find displays pretty much anywhere. Even Wal-Mart is carrying them these days. A while back I wanted a cheap LCD to hook to my laptop instead of attempting to hook my Cinema Display to it, and I got a 15 inch from Wal-Mart for $150. It wasn't a bad deal... a nice little monitor...
You can also find pretty good deals at BestBuy and CompUSA.

  • Possible to use iMac 27" as monitor for PPC Mac Mini (DVI)?

This question appeared on the support community, about 4 years ago, but the adapter mentioned as a solution is now discontinued.

I have an old PPC-based Mac Mini that I would like to connect to my new iMac 27", but my Mac Mini has DVI output and the iMac 27" has Mini DisplayPort input. Is this the only way to connect a PPC Mac Mini (or any DVI device) to the iMac 27"?

How can i find the correct Product ID for this installation,

For Partners and SAP, the license id is contained in a word document that is in the Download Manager.

  • Production order for configurable subassemblies

    Dear experts,
we have a situation with configurable end products with very complex multilevel BOM, were some of the assemblies and subassemblies on the lower levels (1, 2, 3 etc.) are configurable materials too.
The SOP planning strategy is 56 (or 89). The MRP planning run results in planned orders for the MTS details and PIR's for the configurable materials.
The question is: is it possible to manualy create planned (production) orders for the configurable subassemblies before the sales order? How can we manualy valuate the characteristics of the subassemblies?
    Thank you in advance,
    Peter

    Hi,
Characteristics Based Planning will let you create demand for lower level assemblies to drive in inventory for commonly used components or raw materials prior to receiving a firm customer order for a finished assembly.

  • Any experience with JVC TMH-150CGU Production Monitor?

I'm trying to find a affordable production monitor and was considering the JVC TMH-150CGU. Has anyone had any experience with unit?

I'm using a Mac Pro (Intel 2 x 2.66 GHz) with NVidia 7300 and this monitor. I love it. It's amazing. Connected via single link DVI. Beware though, Acer shipped several models with a crippled native resolution through DVI. Resolved by firmware update that service has to provide.
the one big problem is Apple needs to update the video card drivers to solve a blinking display issue when coming out of sleep. For me this is a minor issue for a beautiful 26" display, but getting really annoying.

  • Dual 17'' Displays and an NTSC Monitor for Video Editing

I am trying to hook up two 17'' apple monitors and an NTSC television monitor for video editing, but all I have on the back of my G5 tower is one ADC plug and one DVI plug. Any advice on how to make this work would be greatly appreciated.

If you run in anything other than the LCD's native resolution your graphics card will be resampling the image. This inevitably distorts the image as pixels must be discarded to create the display. Typically this softens the image.

Since the late 2009 iMacs came out, replacing the hard drive has caused the internal Hard Drive Fan to start running at around 6000RPM.
This is due to Apple replacing the external Hard Drive temperature sensor with a proprietary firmware and using the drives internal sensor.
Replacement drives do not contain the firmware to deliver temperature data on the temperature sensor cable.
When the iMac does not receive a good signal from the hard drive it puts the fan at full speed to protect the drive.
If you replace your drive, your iMac will initially seem fine, but soon the fan will begin to speed up to full speed. Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) will have a temporary effect, but again the fan will speed up.
Fixes people have used in the past included:
Using smcFanControl and the terminal to set a MAX speed for the fan and writing scripts to start this after every sleep/restart.
Shorting the temperature sensor cable (Not a possibility on 2011 iMacs) this tricks the iMac into thinking the drives temperature is very low, hence slow fan speed.
Both these fixes are less then perfect and leave the drive in a dangerous situation with no protection from overheating.
Another option people try is other Fan Control software. These programs will not work for this particular issue as they often only control the base speed, and if they do control the fans actual speed they rely on the temperature reported by the sensor which is now incorrect.
    HDD Fan Control
HDD Fan Control works to fix this issue by reading the drives internal temperature using the S.M.A.R.T protocol and set the fans actual speed to a value good to protect the drive.
It runs at startup and continually to always control the fan correctly, prevent the loud fan noise and protect the drive from overheating
Instead of HDDFan Control, get the free SSDFan Control

  • Is it possible to find the serial of the last connected device (iPod Nano) in itunes?

Is it possible to find the serial of the last connected device (iPod Nano) in itunes? Was stolen, trying to get info on my device.

iTunes will only show the serial number for iOS devices backed up using iTunes (and the iPod nano is not an iOS device). For alternative ways to find the serial number, see:
    On your iPod packaging
If you still have the original packaging for your iPod, you can find your serial number on the barcode label that's affixed to the packaging.
On your iPod invoice or receipt
Some retailers may include the serial number of your iPod on the receipt.
    Online at My Support Profile
If you used your Apple ID to register or purchase your iPod, you may find the serial number listed in My Support Profile (available in the United States and Canada). Log in with your Apple ID and find your iPod in the My Products box on the main page:
From iPod: How to find the serial number.
