Is it possible to force Firefox to load a url in a tab when opening a new page (before the page has loaded)?

Recently when using a rather unreliable internet connection I'm often get dropped connections that prevent pages from loading.
In the past this used to result in an "Unable to connect to server page" when the timeout happened, which was fine as I could just refresh the page.
These days however the page is timing out when the page is still on the about:blank stage (or stuck on the current page), before the url has been updated, so I'm losing the address.
Is there any way to force firefox to update the url as soon as the page load request is made, as opposed to when it recieves a response from the server (which is how it seems to work at the moment)?

If you click a link then Firefox may only be showing the URL on the location bar if at least there is a connection to the server.
If you are on Linux then it should take minutes before the connection times out, at least that is what I see (on Windows it is only 20 seconds). This might be different in case the connection drops.
There should be a try again button of the net error page to reload this link.
Don't you see such a button?
You can start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • Firefox is my default browser, yet Bing appears when opening a new tab. How can I stop this?

I have set Firefox as my default browser with Google as my default search engine. I have eliminated Bing from the drop-down list in Firefox of alternate engines. However, when I am browsing and open a new tab, the Bing search window page appears. Google is still in the search line at the top of the page.
I want Google to be the search engine that appears, not Bing.

Try setting your home page to Google.
    * Go to your Firefox preferences: Tools -> Options
    * Click on the General tab
    * In the "Home Page" box, type in "http://www.google.com"
    * Press OK

  • Slideshow page appears to load all images at once making it very slow. Is it possible to force it to load just the required items for the immediate page / slide

    Hi Everyone
First post and a Muse / Web Noob.
Im building my personal website with muse ( CC and now CC 2014 ) , its quite simple with slideshows embedded inside each other and is just 4 pages in total.
My two slideshow pages appears to load all images at once making it very slow ( plus 20 secs on my system ). Is it possible to force it to load just the required items for the immediate page / slide. It would be so much faster and would work much better in this particular situation.
Ive built all the images and icons at the correct size so optimisation shouldn't be an issue. The whole site is only about 42mb.

Oh well the problem seems to have fixed itself. It seems it was either a Java or Tumblr problem because the same thing happened when I installed Chrome. It is a lot more stable now and no more crashes yay.

  • After closing a browser window and if I open a new browser window , the browser will not open per my home page in tools/options/startup, it loads the last page

recently when opening a new browser, everything Is using and closed during my last session will open

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default.
Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension.
You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.
You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

when I launch firefox get the following message "firefox is already running, but is not resonding. to open a new window, you must first close the existing firefox process, or restart your system" firefox not running and a restart doesn't solve the problem

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 12.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Using Firefox 5 in Windows 7, once I have Firefox open, I can no longer open a new window using the start button. How do I fix?

As I stated, I have Windows 7 on my laptop and have installed Firefox 5. I sometimes like to have multiple windows of the browser open. But, unlike any previous version of Firefox, now when I have the browser open, when I try to open a new window using the Start menu, it will not open one. I have to use Ctrl+N. Why did this change?
This may seem insignificant but it really hampers my work flow. For one, with other applications, Shift+N is what opens a new window. For two, I've been doing with with my browsers for years now and it's like second nature for me - having to remember that in Firefox it's Ctrl+N is a pain in my tuccus.
Firefox is my go to browser and I would like it to stay that way. Please find the solution for me! I have tried looking using Tools, Options, as well as looking at my start menu and taskbar options, and no dice.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Is it possible to have two versions of Muse on one Machine?  WhenI open Muse from my program menu in WIndows 7 it comes up the way I am used to.  I did an upgrade a week or so ago and now I have an Adobe Muse CC 2014 on my desktop.  WhenI open the application that way the GUI interface looksw totally different, more like Illustrator.  What is that all about?

Since posting the above, I have resolved a sensible work-around in regard to ebookstores which prefer us to have separate accounts for our separate Adobe IDs.
However, I really would appreciate it if anyone here can confirm that a DRM controlled book does actually become associated with a particular Adobe ID account at the time of first download to Digital Editions on that PC/device.
Two large book stores have said using my account with them to download books to our two separate Adobe IDs is OK, but I don't want to find my husband is unable to open his downloaded books.
Thank you folks for any advice you can give,
    Sue

  • Firefox is set to open a new page when a link is selected, however it opens underneath/behind

Firefox is set to open a new page when a link is selected, however it opens underneath/behind the page containing the link. In other words I can't see the new page because it is beneath the one I'm looking at.
75% of the time this happens, 25% of the time it works as it should.

Do you mean that it is opening links in a new window? If you would rather have a new tab instead, you can set that in Options > Tabs. Some links are set up so that they will open in a new tab or window. I know of no way to make those open in the same tab, short of changing the code on the page.

  • Firefox not Mac OSX Spaces friendly - There is no right click option to open a new window in the curent space.

Other browsers (Safari and Chrome) allow you to open a new window in the current space by right clicking the dock icon and choosing 'new window'. Firefox does not have this option in the right click. You must go to the other space that already has firefox open, create a new window there, and then drag it to the desired space. Please add the ability to launch a new window in the current space from the dock icon right click menu.

I have gone to the link that you supplied . In the task manager-- ending the entry for Firefox.exec did not resolve the problem.
I located my profile in the start menu In the run tab And entered %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\as instructed.
I received a cannot delete parent file is corrupted or unreadable. I then ran the Chkdsk (check disk )and tried the process again with no improvement . I have uninstalled Firefox, and redownloaded It. Still no improvement. I want my Firefox WHAAAAAAA

    A few times a week

Firefox is shutting down windows I want to remain open. Example: I am done viewing one window. I click the X to shut the window and it shuts two windows. Every single time, attempt to close one windows, two windows close. Lately, I have been opening several windows with nothing but google search, just so it will shut that window and not something else I want to remain open. I could understand this if I was using tabs, but I am not. This has been going on for over two weeks. I don't like going back to history to open a window, I did not want closed in the first place. Isn't that what 'Windows' is all about? Any ideas?

This UI change is really stupid and useless. People got used to some specified menu items order. Changing this order could only annoy and anger.
Also the reload button has been relocated. This is another example of stupid Firefox 4 UI change. The good news is that it could easily be relocated to its original place.
It looks like the Firefox developers are suffering from idleness and boredom.
    CHANGE IT BACK ASAP!!!
