Is it possible to get an iSight camera to work with Yahoo Messenger?

Totally new to PC here. Been a Macuser all my computer life, but needed a second computer for work. Not thrilled, but there it is.
So, I'm wondering if the isight camera is PC compatible, and if so, how and what drivers do I install? Or do I just go out and by a PC camera?

Hello maurice493windows ML
Until Tony gets back with you, here is some info you can consider.
iSight does not need an installer CD because it was sold by Apple for use with Macs. All software for iSight is built into Mac OS X, so no separate installer CD was provided.
Apple's Boot Camp software that comes with the iNtel Macs has drivers for XP, but I am uncertain whether you have one of the iNtel Macs. If you do have access to an iNtel Mac and the software that came with it, you can extract the driver using the info Tony provided in this response to "Lennysapple" here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4207189&#4207189
This apparently will work with a PC running Windows XP, but I have not yet seen reports of it working properly with Windows Vista. You may, as Tony suggests, need to experiment to find out.
<hr width="75%">
I do not recommend iSight on a PC. If you have too much difficulty, a USB webcam that is compatible with YM for your PC may be a quicker and easier choice. Many of the PC compatible USB webcams are cheap, and they were designed to work with PCs.
This Google Search returned links, such as this one, which contains the following statement that may indicate more problems for you:
... Apple specific hardware will not work, such as the iSight, Bluetooth, etc. due to the fact that they're written for 32-bit Windows XP SP2.
I do not know whether that is still true, but it does support my suggestion that it may be easier to buy a PC compatible USB webcam.

  • How do I get my WEBCAM to work with YAHOO Messenger!!??

Someone please help. I have been trying for ages to get a webcam to work on Yahoo messenger but to no avail. I recently purchased a new webcam that stated it was usable with MAC OSX.
Still Yahoo does not seem to give me any option to broadcast my webcam. I was using Yahoo 2.5 before and I just downloaded and started to use Yahoo 3.0......still nothing. All outgoing webcam options are grayed out" on any of the yahoo messenger menues.
I used to go in the chatrooms on yahoo and be able to view and be viewed on webcam. Now that I switched to an ibook with OSX...I CAN DO NONE OF THAT anymore and there seems to be no workable solutions in sight ( I searched all the yahoo databanks as well as Mac discussion archives).
The cam seems to work on AIM but nothing on Yahoo messenger
Please, one of you mac geniuses come to my rescue

  • Can't Get External iSight Camera to Work in XP Pro.

I just installed XP SP2 via Boot Camp on my Mac Pro. I had trouble getting the Boot Camp Drivers Wizard to complete. It would freeze.
After I disconnected my iSight Camera and Apple USB Modem, I was able to get the wizard to complete.
But on reboot I still see Found New Hardware Wizard.
I also still see question marks beside my iSight Camera in Device Manager.
I tried to run the Apple Booot Camp Driver Wizard again using the REPAIR option. Same problem..
    Any Ideas?
    Rob

It looks like Apple does NOT provide any Bootcamp drivers for EXTERNAL iSight cameras.
I am out of luck!! Pity!!
    From wikipedia:
"Microsoft Windows XP and Vista will autodetect an external iSight camera as “1394 Desktop Video Camera”, but no specific iSight driver exists for Windows"
    see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISight
If someone knows of a Windows driver that will work with an EXTERNAL iSight camera, please let me know.

  • Built in isight camera not working with flash

My built in isight camera on my macbook works just fine in photobooth and in skype or ichat.. but just in the past week or so, it will not work when im on websites that use flash. I've seen some threads that say that I need to go into settings and make sure that the camera chosen is the USB. When i go into flash settings, the only options are Google1, Google2, or Built in isight. It doesn't work with any of them. Does anyone have any idea how I can make it work again?

Your problem is not the same as that posted by the OP, and your system info shows you using Mac OS X (10.5.6).
For your symptoms with this system, I suggest you do the following:
    (1) Apply the 10.5.8 Combo Update using the following process:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
       http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test whether Flash works for you now.
(• Turn Time Machine on later when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
    (2) After applying the 10.5.8 Combo, if you are still having problems, download and install the latest Flash player compatible with your system:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Also check any other third-party browser plugins or other add ons. Apply all available updates and uninstall any third-party items that are known to be incompatible with your system.

  • External iSight cam not working with iChat

I've got an external iSight cam that was working fine in 10.5.8 with iChat - I'm using 10.6.1 now. Now when I open iChat, the camera stays off (no green light) and iChat video preview says that another application is using the camera so it's not available, which of course, is not true.
I've tried everything I know, but can't get it to work. The camera works with Skype, so I know it's functioning properly.
When I checked the Connection Doctor, under Network, it says that there's something in my network setup that is preventing video chats, but I haven't changed anything since upgrading to SL. I have a direct ethernet cable to my DSL modem/router - Covad. My wife's iChat works fine with her new LogiTech camera, and she's on the same home network/router.

    Opps,
My head read that as MacBook Pro. Sorry.
Try Restarting the computer whilst Holding done the Apple (CMD)+ALT (OPTION)PR Keys until you have heard three start up Bongs.
    Chax is an iChat Add-on.
Different version have done different things in the different iChat Versions.
There is only a Alpha test version of the one for Snow Leopard.
The iChat 4 version does not work in Snow Leopard/iChat 5 and that was why I was asking.

  • Isight camera not working with skype on Win 7 Bootcamp

So I was happily running windows 7 (need it for work) on my MACBook (mid 2009) with Bootcamp 3.2 until a couple of weeks ago.
I updated something (either Skype or Bootcamp, etc) and all of a sudden, my iSight camera takes like 4-5 seconds to initialize, and the frame rates on the camera with Skype are like 1 new grab every 10-15 seconds.
    Anyone run into this before?
    Thanks,
    Wes

I know this is an older thread BUT I've been dealing with this issue for the past four days and this is what I found... (perhaps if it helps another person....)
Assuming you've already checked while on a Skype video call that your camera isn't turned off...
    FIRSTLY
Open Skype Preferences to verify your settings.
(prob in your downloads, applications folder or on your desktop)
Then at the top your screen, next to the Apple Icon you should see Skype:
Select Skype, then scroll down to Preferences.  Verify settings.
(Mine, for example, under the "Calls" Tab was set to autoanswer so I can check on
my dogs while away and tell them to get off the couch!)
    SECONDLY
Make sure another apple app isn't hijacking your camera.
Open Finder, Devices, Applications, then look for IChat
Once open, Select iChat and scroll down to preferences.
(For my settings, I don't use IChat SO I changed the "default IM application" to Skype,
    under General settings tab.)
    Select the green Audio/Video Tab
and uncheck "Open IChat when external camera is on"
    THIRDLY
I verified that all other Apps using the camera weren't open.  My insight camera worked
when I opened Photobooth,  IChat, Facetime and ICamSource (a monitoring program)
    - just didn't work with Skype!
From Desktop, go to Apple Icon, select "Force Quit Finder", then scroll down and
close everything that uses the camera.
    FINALLY
From Desktop, go to Apple Icon and select Restart (pic same as above).
Upon restarting, once the screen blanks out hold down the following keys all at once:
Option, Command and P and R keys.
For me, I heard the computer "restart song" chime twice before letting go.
    (PRAM and NVRAM settings)

I tried a Skype video call from an Iphone to Mac Desktop and it went through just fine!

  • ISight camera not working with Myspace Karaoke

Hi guys! I searched the forum and couldn't seem to find anything on this...I'm trying to upload an audition for Glee on Myspace using my iSight camera. The audio seems to be recording fine, but when I try to play back what I've just recorded there is no video. I checked the settings and everything seems to be connected fine but it's still not working. Any idea why this is happening or what I can do to fix it? Thanks so much!

    Hi,
A look here show me the Video shown is Flash based.
This would make me guess that the Record feature is also Flash based.
This should give you access to a Settings panel that you will have to tick the Allow Box and possibly select the camera from as well (icon to the lower right)

    Hi,
2 days ago my kids were skyping and everything was fine, then I turned off my iMac and the next day Skype wouldn't use my iSight Camera. In the settings it shows that it is using the iSight Camera but not picture! I made an update from skype but it didnt help. I restarted my computer, reinstalled skype nothing.
I am not a big pro with computers, so if you have an explanation, PLEASE be detailed in your explanation.
    Thanks

  • Isight camera does work with skype.

    my computer is:
    I have g4 powerbook.  OS 10.5.8
    camera works with ichat.
under preferences, I see myself, but I log into skype video/chat button greys out.
    any suggestions?

    (1) In general, to troubleshoot iSight itself: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Be sure to check more than one Apple camera app (perhaps iMovie, too) in more than one user account.
    (2) If your iSight works with your iChat Apple app but not Skype in every user account you test, the problem must be ONLY with your Skype.  The first thing to try is restarting Mac and testing with ONLY Skype running.  If that does not help, repair permissions and retest.
    (3) If the problem continues, the best help for Skype-specific problems should come from Help for Skype – user guides, FAQs, customer support.
Skype even offers its own dedicated Mac - Skype Community.  To save time, you can search there for existing answers to your specific question or post your question there and wait for help from Skype for Mac users who post there.
If all else fails, you can even Sign in to your Skype account to get help directly from Skype technical support.
    (4) If you find that you need to reinstall Skype, try clicking this download and reinstsll the latest Skype version compatible with your Mac OS X (10.5.8) computer.  If a compatible version is not available at this current  Skype download site, and if you did not save a backup of the old Skype version that works with your Mac OS 10.5.8, you may be able to get what you need from Old Version of Skype for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard (PowerPC) Download.
