Is it possible to get Remote Desktop to work from my Surface 2 to a local PC running Vista?

Is it possible to get Remote Desktop to work from my Surface 2 to a local PC running Vista?
I keep getting "cannot find PC" entering IP or PC name
but as a test I have set up my PC to do web hosting, and I can browse to the IP address using desktop IE and see my local web pages.
I've just found a reference that says it has to be Business Vista.
Why would Microsoft put such a STUPID restriction in?
I think this Surface thing is going to go back if so.
What about Win8 64 Pro? Will that work?

Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Yeah, windows 8 pro can connect to surface 2. There is detailed article guide for it, please check below link.
Your Complete Guide to Using Remote Desktop on the Microsoft Surface and Windows 8
Hope it helps!
Thanks.

  • Is it possible to get Remote Desktop Services running when in Sysprep Audit mode in 2012r2?

    Hi,
I'm setting up some images for 2012r2 and personally like to be able to access the machines via RDP. I have broken out of the OOBE by pressing
CTRL+SHIFT+F3, however, even though RDP is enabled (System --> Remote Setting) and running (Services --> Remote Desktop Services),
when I run 'netstat -a', I cannot see any process bound to port 3389, as such I cannot connect. Have restarted the services just in case, but no dice.
I most the other OS setups (Windows 7, 208R2) this is fine (assuming you update either the password in audit mode or enable RDP login with a blank password), but the fact that nothing is listening
on 3389 means that no matter what I do, I will not be able to connect.
Is there any reason why this is the case?
    Cheers

    Hi Chris,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you ping successfully the respective server?
Initially check whether there is any firewall rule set which is blocking your connection. Please try to change the RDP port from following registry key and verify whether you can get access.
To change the port assigned to RDP:
Caution:  Incorrectly editing the registry might severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data.
    1. On the Remote Desktop server, open Registry Editor. To open Registry Editor, Start Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Remote Desktop server\WinStations
Note:  RDP-TCP is the default connection name. To change the port for a specific connection on the Remote Desktop server, select the connection under the WinStations key.
    1. In the right-pane, double-click the PortNumber registry entry.
    2. Type the port number that you want to assign to RDP in the
Click OK to save the change, and then close Registry Editor.
For more information you can refer following article (Point 2: You may have a Port assignment conflict).

  • Cannot get Remote Desktop to work on Windows 7

Ok. I am having issues trying to connect remotely using RDP. From what I know, the network was pre-configured from another IT group and was able to get it up and running. My company was commissioned to migrate his old PC (WINXP) to Windows 7. I have gone
through the steps of allowing remote desktop and following instructions:
To configure remote access, follow these steps:
    1. In Control Panel, click System And Security, and then click System.
    2. On the System page, click Remote Settings in the left pane. This opens the System Properties dialog box to the Remote tab.
    3. To disable Remote Desktop, select Don’t Allow Connections To This Com¬puter, and then click OK.Skip the remaining steps.
    4. To enable Remote Desktop, you have two options. You can:
Select Allow Connections From Computers Running Any Version Of Remote Desktop to allow connections from any version of Windows.
Select Allow Connections Only From Computers Running Remote Desktop With Network Level Authentication to allow connections only from Windows 7 or later computers (and computers with secure network authentication).
    5. Click Select Users. This displays the Remote Desktop Users dialog box.
    6. To grant Remote Desktop access to a user, click Add. This opens the Select Users dialog box. In the Select Users dialog box, click Locations to select the computer or domain in which the users you want to work with are located. Type the
name of a user you want to work with in the Enter The Object Names To Select field, and then click Check Names. If matches are found, select the account you want to use and then click OK. If no matches are found, update the name you entered and try searching
again. Repeat this step as necessary, and then click OK.
    7. To revoke remote access permissions for a user account, select the account and then click Remove.
    8. Click OK twice when you have finished.
One thing that I found odd when he launched Remote Desktop from his home laptop is the IP entry:
    Computer> [Public Router IP]:49250
    Login> Domain\Admin
    Password> *****
From the odd port number I would assume that was for port forwarding so I logged into his router and found exactly that. In port forwarding, he had the in/out as 49250 TCP to 192.168.30. I went into the firewall and enabled Remote Desktop in the inbound
    rules.
As of right now, I can use Remote Desktop to remote into the server, and withing their server, I cam use Remote Desktop to remote into the workstation. I just can't remote into the workstation directly using the port 49250. Any suggestions on this, something
    I have missing?
He has Norton Security installed on this computer and I tried adding Inbound/Outbound rules to its 'Smart Firewall' to allow remote desktop and the port.

    Thanks for the reply.
When I use Remote Desktop and use the Public IP of the router without the port number (49250), I am able to get into the server. However, when I try to use RDP with the [Public IP]:49250, it will not connect to the 192.168.0.30 workstation.
Right now the router is program to forward port 49250 requests to the 0.30 workstation.
I am going to work on the Inbound/Outbound Firewall settings today and see if this will resolve the issue.

No - your iPhone is a GSM phone and Verizon uses a CDMA network. Completely incompatible device and technology.

  • Is it possible to get iPhone audio (telephone calls) from Lightning connection? Music works, but calls switch to internal or extenral speakers, not lightning (for e.g. docking station, car...)!

Is it possible to get iPhone audio (telephone calls) from Lightning connection? Music works, but calls switch to internal or extenral speakers, not lightning (for e.g. docking station, car...)!
I want to get the audio out of the lightning connection (the way you get audio when you connect it to a dock). It works properly with music, but when making a telephone call, it switches to the internal speraker. You can change to the external spekers, but you cannot select another audio out. It's also possible to get the telephone audio from the analogue connection, but that's not what I want. I want telephone audio from lightning...
Would be so great if anybody has an idea

I must also say that the second update ruined my Lumia's battery life.
With the first (out-of-the-box) update the phone usually had 30 percent of battery after a quite hard day (e.g. more than an hour of talking via bluetooth handsfree, more than two hours of listening to the music via bluetooth, more than an hour of browsing via wifi, and reading hundreds of e-mails via two mail accounts). I never managed to discharge it after one day (e.g. 14-16 hours) of continous use, no matter how much I talked, listened and browsed.
Now, with the secod update, it discharges to 20% after 12 hours of laying still almost without use (30 mins of music, less than 15 mins of talking and nothing more), and discharges completely with the usage pattern described above.
Did the second update contain some Android code?

  • [svn] 3256: More changes to get remote browser functionality working for MXUnit.

    Revision: 3256
    Author: [email protected]
    Date: 2008-09-18 09:14:24 -0700 (Thu, 18 Sep 2008)
    Log Message:
More changes to get remote browser functionality working for MXUnit.
Need to copy http client jars from trunk/lib to trunk/qa/lib as part of the build. The http client jars are used by MXUnit when the remote browser, browser factory is being used.
Also need to copy xalan.jar from trunk/lib to trunk/qa/lib now as William recently made changes to MXUnit that added a dependency on xalan.jar.
In mxunit/build.xml made the browserFactory class for the MXUnit task use a property called mxunitBrowserFactory so different browser factories can now be passed in.
    Modified Paths:
    blazeds/trunk/qa/apps/qa-regress/build.xml
    blazeds/trunk/qa/apps/qa-regress/testsuites/mxunit/build.xml
    blazeds/trunk/qa/build.properties

Ah, interesting. Here's what I get when I boot with the old GeForce 7300 plugged in.
System Profiler shows no extensions with "ATI" in the name. I'm not sure if this is to be expected though. Does System Profiler -> Software -> Extensions display the kexts installed on the system, or only those that the kernel decided to load at boot time? If the latter, I guess I wouldn't expect to see them. If the former, then might there be some registration step I need to do to tell the system that the ATI kexts are present and able to be loaded?
As for the presence of the extensions, if I look in /System/Library/Extensions, I find the following files when I do an 'ls -lF | grep ATI'...
    ATI1300Controller.kext
    ATI1600Controller.kext
    ATI1900Controller.kext
    ATI2400Controller.kext
    ATI2600Controller.kext
    ATI3800Controller.kext
    ATI4500Controller.kext
    ATI4600Controller.kext
    ATI4800Controller.kext
    ATI5000Controller.kext
    ATIFramebuffer.kext
    ATIRadeonX1000.kext
    ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin
    ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle
    ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle
    ATIRadeonX2000.kext
    ATIRadeonX2000GA.plugin
    ATIRadeonX2000GLDriver.bundle
    ATIRadeonX2000VADriver.bundle
    ATIRadeonX3000.kext
    ATIRadeonX3000GA.plugin
    ATIRadeonX3000GLDriver.bundle
    ATIRadeonX3000VADriver.bundle
    ATISupport.kext
So lots of ATI-related goodies. The dates are all either Aug 2 or Aug 6, so I'm guessing they came with the Snow Leopard Graphics Update, which I think was released just after those dates.
I'm getting ready to return the card and try another, but will hold off another day or two, since it still seems plausible that there might be a software issue lurking...
    Thanks again for your help,
    Jerry

  • Can't Connect with Remote Desktop, It worked before!

Hello. We currently bought alot of seats of Remote Desktop to connect to computer not located in the office. During the time spent here at this office, all the remote desktop connections worked fine. Once the machines were moved up to the new business location, we tried to connect to the machine. We changed the IP's to the ISP new ip, which the server then port forwarded the correct ports to the specific ip for those machines.
We open up Remote Desktop on the computer, with the scanner, and type in the ip address where the computers are going to be stored. Once the ip is in, we can see the computers have been located on the scanner. When then select a computer we want to observe/control/curtain and typied in the username and password, which are all correct. It then says " connecting to "theipaddress" for about 1 min, then displays an error message saying "Connection failed to ipaddress".
something that ive noticed, is that in the scanner window the icon is grey, instead of its little blue monitor and only displays the ip address in the name field, but not the computer name like it did when we ran it thru the lan. question is what are we doing wrong.
can someone please tell us the correct ports to open on what side
what are the ports on the server side that need to be opened on the router/server?
are there any ports on the client side that need to be opened on the router/server?
    please help me.

both udp and tcp, but the problem you're having may be the same one that stumped me for a couple of hours.
You can't communicate with a machine that has gone into deep sleep mode. If the screensaver is running, you're okay ... but once that cuts out and the screen goes blank, it's out of touch.
In ARD 3 you can tell whether or not it's available by the colour of the little 'monitor' icon to the left of the the listing in the Scanner or All Computers windows.

  • Airport Express G getting Port Forwarding to work from Airport Extreme N

I have an Airport Extreme N connected to a cable modem. I have an Airport Express G in another room, connected to a Local Ethernet Network. The AE G is setup as a WDS Remote to the AE N. Connectivity works and all is well.
What doesn't work is when I try to forward ports from the AE N to a device/system connected (via ethernet) to the AE G. The kicker is the port forwards work from "inside" the network. Outside they don't. I have been able to forward ports to anything connected to the N directly or wirelessly.
Any thoughts on what the proper configuration of the AE G or the AE N to get port forwarding to work from the AE N through to the clients of the AE G?
I have DHCP, and the clients of the AE G are getting IP addresses and working as they should.

I checked that. I can forward ports all day long to anything connected directly (or wirelessly) to the AE N. Anything connected to the AE G, ports won't forward. For some reason the AE G in bridge mode is not letting ports forward through.
    Thanks for responding, though.

  • How do i get air play to work from my macbook to apple tv

How do i get air play to work from my macbook to apple tv? It does work with some programs like itunes but I can't get it to work with safari.

apple tv does not work in safari. there is no web browsing capabilities on the apple tv..
however what you are probably referring to is mirroring? iPad 2 and iPhone 4s have mirroring capabilities, so what you have on the screen is exactly what would appear in the apple tv..
on ipad for example...ignore the settings page. Instead, go to the iPod controls. Double-press your home button to see the multitasking bar, showing all your recent apps. Swipe your finger from right to left for the mirroring icon; you'll see the AirPlay icon. Tap on that, select your Apple TV and toggle the mirror button to 'on'.

  • HT4356 I can't get air print to work from my iPhone 4. I've verified everything. Th phone gets WIFI from AT&T. Computer's WIFI through Netgear, Charter.  How do I resolve this?

I can't get air print to work from my iPhone 4. I have newest phone operating system, and the phone is air print enabled.
The phone gets WIFI from AT&T.  My computer, to which my printer is wirelessly connected, gets WIFI from Charter Communications and a Netgear router.
That must be the problem.  How do I resolve that?

For Airprint to work your iPhone and printer must be on the same local network. Your printer must support Airprint (see here for list: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356).
Can you connect your iPhone to the Netgear router WiFi?

  • Can't get Apple Remote Desktop to work

I cannot get apple remote desktop to recognize my lab computers.  It only recognizes one in there and all the info is the same on the others.  It sees them but it says they are offline when I have them all on and ready.  I did an update to make sure they were up to speed. I am running ARD 3.5.2 on mine and 3.5.2 on the snow leopard macs and there are some just leopard macs in there running 3.4.
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry, but no, ARD does not have a "remote printing" feature. You can use ARD to copy a file to a remote Mac and than take control of that Mac to print the document, but you cannot print directly to the remote Mac (unless someone else here knows a trick I've not discovered).
Depending on how your wife's company has things set up in their connection to the Internet, she may be able to just set up printer sharing on the work computer and print directly without needing ARD at all. A utility such as Slink may make that easier:
    http://slinkware.com/
I use Slink and it works quite well.
    Regards.

  • Cannot Get Remote Desktop Service to Work

On Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, we went to Remote tab and enabled Remote Desktop.   We entered into the Remote Desktop Users group two users who are local on the box.  One of those is local admin and the other is a standard user.  When we connect
to this machine by remote desktop and then authenticate, we get a message from Windows that the Remote Desktop Users group needs to be able to login through Remote Desktop Services.
I looked in secpol.msc and the Local Policies | User Rights Assignment | Allow logon through Remote Desktop Services already has the Remote Desktop Users included.
What could be going wrong here that might cause Remote Desktop to disallow authenticated users that match to the Remote Desktop users group?
    Will

    Hi,
Please check whether two machines are in the same network environment. And make sure if
Remote Desktop Services is running, you can follow these steps:
Press Windows + R keys simultaneously, type services.msc then press
    Enter.
Check the status of Remote Desktop Services.

    Welcome to the forums.
For now you won't be able to do this. The SDK will be released in February and it's possible someone may right something at that time -- we'll just have to wait and see.
