Is it possible to group video and audio tracks separately in the timeline?

Currectly tracks are ordered like this:
video
audio
video
audio
video
audio
Can I arrange them to look more like:
video
video
video
audio
audio
audio
Since I get to use both Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro frequently at work, I would find it more natural if audio and video were grouped separately.

You are welcome.
I find it interesting, as about 10% of the users of PrE would like to arrange the Audio & Video Tracks in the form of PrPro, however, about 10% of the users of PrPro would like to arrange them like PrE!
Personally, I find the PrPro arrangement (as you were requesting) to be the most logical for my workflow. I do my Video first, and like all Tracks grouped atop the divider line, and when done there, move down to my Audio. I still get lost and confused in PrE, because of the grouping there.
Now one little tip, that might help you a bit: one can Add, or Delete Tracks pretty easily. I have a Sequence (think multiple Timelines in PrE) Preset that gives me 4 Video Tracks, 1 mono Audio Track, 4 stereo Audio Tracks, and a DD 5.1 SS Master Track. This is the "average" of the normal Timelines that I work with. When doing an edit, where the extra Tracks are not needed, I choose Sequence>Delete Unused Tracks to "clean" things up a bit. Then, I am only looking at Tracks (Video and Audio) that are in use.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Can I link and lock video and audio tracks - layers - as in Photoshop?

I'd like to link and lock entire clips of video and audio tracks, as I might in Photoshop, so that I can insert some material ahead of this group without having to move each separate tack in my timeline. I have a group of clips which works well together now, and it would be so nice to be able to link them, lock them together as on unit, and just insert the new material into the timeline ahead of this piece. Any ideas?

What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system?
For now, a generalized Premiere Elements Windows answer.....
You would select all the clips (all at one time) that you want to move together, then Clip Menu/Group.
Or right click anywhere in the selection to bring up the pop up menu including the Group option.
Have you been there and done that yet?
Please supply more information so that we can fine tune the information that you seek.

  • Independant video and audio tracks separate

I am using Premiere Elements 12 on a PC. I am working on a multimedia project combining video, stills and audio. Independant video and audio tracks separate when I insert a still image on another track. The tracks are not grouped or linked together. I do not know how to prevent this happening. The manual suggests pressing the Alt button when inserting but this does not work.

Holding down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard does work and works well under most ordinary conditions. Please practice and refine your Alt technique with care patience. But....
Have you tried keeping certain parts of your established track content together by using the Group command after selecting a
bunch of clips all at one time?

    Hello All...
Back after a brief absence, things look a little bit different.
I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.
    Thanks!

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

  • Video and Audio Track Destination in FC Pro

Sometimes my Source Bar (In the Timeline) doesn't allow me to execute it. That is in the video and audio tracks.
    g-5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi there,
I just came across this problem. I had a clip in the viewer with video and audio and a sequence in the timeline. But somehow FCP wouldn't let me edit the video into the timeline, I couldn't patch the video.
So I opened up another sequence. Same thing.
Third sequence, and the video track selector miraculously appears.
Any ideas? After I quit and restarted FCP, it all worked normally.
Tales from the not-so-far-side, I guess.....
    Cheers,

  • Can't play Video and audio tracks.

What software components are necessary to play the video and

  • How many video and audio tracks now?

If there is one single bad thing in iMovie is the lack of tracks. Most "consumer editors" would like at least 3 sets of stereo audio tracks and the titles would be nicer on a separate track. But in the iMovie site there is no mention to those things. Strange, every video app site has some specs about video and audio tracks, even the free ones.

    Hi John,
Unfortunately the iMovie '06 has the exact same arrangement as '05: One video track and two audio tracks. I was so badly hoping for at least a second video track in the new version because that makes things so much better, but for some reason they didn't add one. They probably know that less people would shell out $300 for Final Cut Express if they added a second video track to iMovie. sigh
    A big disappointment.

  • Combining Separate Video and Audio tracks

Hi, what's the best way to combine a video and audio tracks into a single file? We will be given the video and audio from 13 volleyball games, and each game will be coming as a file.mpg (mpeg2) video and an mp3 file.
We're looking for a way to either manually bring it in, or bulk automate a way of combining the two tracks for each game to have one file that is in a format that doesn't need to be rendered in FCP.
    Thanks!

Seems like there should be some way to combine clips somewhere though? < </div>
Not if they're form separate devices or in different codecs. the MPEG2 files are the big problem, next time, have your people shoot conventional DV and use the audio interface to bring in a feed from your announce booth or radio station or whatever so it's in sync.

  • Video and audio tracks not synchronized after importing

When I try to watch a video in quicktime or itunes video and audio tracks not synchronized. If I wach on another player they are synced. Anyone help?

    John:
Thanks for your reply.  Excuse my referring to you as "Kevin".  I'm new to the Adobe Community.  I have also referenced another article which is seemingly a bit easier to fix for such a non-technical woman like myself.  I'm going to try both solutions.  Whichever works I'll be sure to reply to the thread with my findings.  I found this article which provides the following solution:  http://blog.flickharrison.com/2012/04/problem-solving-in-adobe-premiere-audio-glitches-and -sync/

  • Video and Audio Track Selection

Is there any quick way to do this? Nothing in the keyboard shortcuts menu that seems close to "Sleect Video Track 1", "Select Audio Track 1", etc. Is it only achieveable with a mouse? Thanks all.

I have made custom keyboard shortcuts for video and audio tracks using Toggle Track.
I use numbers 1 to 7 for Video and Shift 1-7 for Audio.
In conjunction with Mouse clicking and shift mouse clicking on tracks..does all that I need.

  • MPEG gets audio track truncated in the timeline

I havean  mpeg produced in Adobe Media encoder ( from Premiere).
Plays and checks out fine until it is placed in an Encore Timeline and the audio track gets cut off  at about 80% of the video.
eg  The video and audio track match  lengths visually when I drag in the mpeg file...until I Release the mouse.  THen the audio track truncates.
    mpeg duration = 1.20mins
    Any thoughts folks?

It was mpeg 2 dvd. Ann

  • Why won't both audio tracks appear on the timeline????

    Hello,
here is a dumb question. When I drag my clips to the timeline only one audio track appears on the timeline and I know there are two track of audio. I must have accidently changed some settings. anyone know what's up?
    Thanks for your help

Are both audio tabs connected to the timeline? Just to the left of the timeline are the V1 and A1 and A2 audio tabs from the source clips. Is one disconnected?

  • Video and audio tracks won't stay linked

When I highlight the files I want to stay linked, (audio to video) and right click to link them up, that works. But then when I click on the video or audio file separately they are not linked. This happened suddenly to all my projects so it much be a setting in the program but I'm not sure what. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks.

  • Editing video and audio tracks together in timeline

I've had problems regarding the editing of audio and video tracks. For example, if I have a clip (1v, 2a tracks) that I put in the timeline and try to cut it using the razor blade, it will only cut the video track. Before, I used to be able to click only once and all the associated tracks (the 2 audio ones in this example) cut together at the same point. I know it's possibly a keyboard shortcut or something like that, but I've looked and looked and now it's making me crazy.

You probably need to turn Linking on (Command L). There is a little button on the upper right corner of the timeline that looks like a chain, click it.
If that doesn't work, you could use the Blade All tool, press B twice.

  • Splitting video and audio tracks

    Hi folks!
I'm a newbie to the whole world of mac and this is my first time using imovie. What I am trying to do is to split the video track and keep the audio from it and run that over another video track, then come back to the original video track... so basically putting in a cut-away... is this possible with imovie?
Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi - I was getting help from someone else on this aduio issue - and saw this post, so hope you don't mind my asking you too -
I extracted the sound out of a video clip. The track of sound got put doen below the clip, like it should. And it zerod out the original clip audio as it should.
The 3rd audio track is a separate song, that plays over the video track. When I play the timeline back, all is fine. But when I record the dvd [and I have tried over 20 times in various ways this week], even though the preview [I am using Toast 6] shows the movie playing right, when the recorde dvd comes out, the audio that I extracted and deleted, still plays. [and the song plays right, but is suppose]. I have clicked on the video clip, and it shows 0% ...
