Is it possible to have 2 Mavericks on one machine

I'm on 2009 Mac Pro. 12 gig memory OSX 10.9.5 I have recently purchased an ssd drive for this machine. The new drive is much smaller 240gig than the original HD it is to replace.
Question 1....I am wondering if it is possible to have the original HD with Mavericks and the new ssd with Mavericks both on the machine at the same time?
It is only that the applications etc are so interwoven with the library etc and other stuff it is near impossible to install them and have them work on the new ssd. I have started taking stuff over to the new drive by switching back and forth and using a third drive in the machine as a carrier. Some have worked some have not.
Question2.... Is it possible to take mavericks off the HD and use the disk with just the applications and stuff the applications need. or temporaryly disable the OS on the HD (how would I do that if possible} and change it with another drive in the machine. thanks for any help.... Tom

Yes you can but Carbon Copy Cloner will happily do what you need.
Install TRIM Enabler first.
leave the drive as is, it will be your backup and safety net.
I would get a new drive for your data.
You could backup to TimeMachine and have a clone backup and then wipe the old drive.
Your SSD will need a drive sled adapter usually, $14.
Done every day for the last 6 years since SSDs came out. And discussed and asked here just as often.
You just have to use a program to move the system to a new drive, great for working backups that will be bootable and should have been doing all along.

I was wondering, now that I discovered the advantages of Resource Manger, if it would be possible to have 2 shared resources, one local with common topics and pictures for several projects, and another one, remote, containing the whole projects, i.e. topics and pictures, for collaboration purposes.
The local one I intend to use it for my purposes to have common items (topics & pictures) updated in all projects where they appear, and the remote one I intend to use it together with my remote colleagues that might want to do changes in the topics.
This would mean that the common topics and pictures would be present in both resources, the local one as well as the remote one.

I was merely wondering if it would be possible w/o having to use other products outside RoboHelp.
We are already using svn for a lot of other purposes and we are using that for the RoboHelp projects as well, however I was wondering if it would not be possible to have RoboHelp take care of the RoboHelp projects, and with svn to take care of the other things in the company.
Eventually, if it would be possible, I would think to sync all the local projects with the remote projects, then sync the local project with the local shared resources, and at the end sync the rest of the projects with the local shared resources.

Is it possible to have two or more virtual machines point to a shared instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 for systems administration?

I am the Systems Admin for a production box running SQL Server 2008 R2. I have been ask to do the following and and trying to figure out if it's even possible.
1. The Production Server is named ProductionA
2. Create 3 Administrator accounts on ProductionA each with access to the SQL Server instance on ProductionA. Use Standard SQL Server login for credentials. i.e. Username/Password and assign the role sysadmin.
3. Install 3 Virtual Machines on ProductionA each with Windows 2008 R2 64 bit operating system.
4. For each Virtual Machine, Install SQL Management Studio and write down the IP Address assigned to each VM.
5. Using Remote Desktop Connection, connect to each virtual machine to be able to manage the SQL Server.
Is this possible? And, why am i doing it? Because I DO NOT want the three people who will be having access to the production SQL Server to also have access to the primary host ProductionA. Since I have to allow them to RDC into the box
to manage the SQL Server, I figure why not create a separate VM for each one of them and they can RDC into those instead.
Does this make any sense?
Any tips are greatly appreciated. The main reason for doing this is because the three people who will be accessing the box, I need to isolate each one of them and at the same time keep them off of the primary ProductionA.

Since you dont want the 3 guys to have access to Production machine A.You can install SQL Server client .By client i mean SQL server management studio(SSMS) on there local desktop and then create login for them in SQL Server.Open port on which your SQL server
is running for three of the machines so that they can connct.Now with SSMS installed on each machine each can connect to SQL server from there own machine.
I would also like you to be cautious with giving Sysadmin privilege to all three of them ,first please note down what task they would do and then decide what rights to be provided.
Your option will also work but you need to create 3 VM for that .Which is more tedious task.

Is it possible to have 2 hard drives, one base stock model, and one new ssd in the dv8t-1100?

I am currently thinking of upgrading my laptop. I have an old DirectX 10 card and no SSD. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade those items on the HP Pavilion dv8t-1100. Preferably, since this is an 18.4'' notebook, I would like to keep the HDD it came with as data storage, and install a modestly sized SSD for all the program data. If the video card can be upgraded to a DirectX 11 compatible card, that would be awesome too.

I don't think that you can upgrade the graphics chip. You will have to replace the motherboard with a better graphics in it (if any is compatible). As an 18" inch laptop it could have a secondary hard drive bay but a solid drive may not be compatible with it (BIOS) anyway.

Possible to have multiple microfeeds on one page?

I've been searching on this for a while now but I haven't been able to find a documented answer.
Is it possible to present multiple microfeeds (site feeds) on a publishing page where I target each feed webpart with different audience?
Please correct me if I'm wrong:
As far as my tests go, I can only add one "Microfeed" list by activating the site feeds feature. However we have a request where we should show feeds based on each country so you only see the feed for your own country.
Whould that be possible? I've also tried to add a site feed on a subsite but I can't figure out how to roll that one up on the front page with the content search webpart or something similar.

We would like to use it on our intranet (based on publishing template). It could be nice to show a newsfeed/sitefeed for earch country based on audence. I guess the correct solution then would be to create a subsite for each country and then activate the
feature there and make the default homepage http://<intraneturl>/<country> for each users?
Anyone having further suggestions? If I have http://<intraneturl> as my default homepage how would I automatically be able to redirect all users from a specific country to http://<intraneturl>/<country>?

Is it possible to have different versions of one presentation?

I use keynote presentations for two different courses. Often I am a little bit faster or slower with one group, but I each group will see all the slides one day or the other. So my problem is, that I have to remember for each slide, if I've already used it or not or in which group I've used it. As the slides get more and more, this is getting annoying.
So, is there a possibility to mark the slides in some way? It would be nice to have tags or groups for the slides (in my case the two groups) and each slide belongs to none, one or many of them. And then, when I want to play the slideshow I can choose for which group. Is something like that possible?
I am still using Keynote '08 (4.0.4). So maybe there is something like that in Keynote '09 (or a new version)?

I am animating a stick figure (because I'm an awesome artist! ) Anyhow the head is made up of a hollow outlined circle, and I want to have the stick man raise his arms, and have the head block the arm that passes behind it (Instead of showing the arm through his head) Is this possible? To mask you need an alpha channel. If you just have a stroked shape layer for the head then you don't have an alpha anywhere but over the stroke.
You'll have to fill the shape and either duplicate it and use the duplicate as a track matte for the arm layer or you'll have to set a mask on the arm shape layer that's exactly the same size and shape as the head.
If you need the head shape not filled then you can turn off the fill for the head and still use the track matte.
If you can use the head shape with a fill then you can just stack up the layers in the right order and the hand will be blocked by the head shape.
There are so many ways to do this kind of thing that a screenshot would be very helpful.
Here's a setup with a track matte and a hollow circle for the head. I've selected the hand so you can see the paths. Notice how the stroke dissapears behind the head layer.

Yes, it's possible to do, but non trivial.
It's easier if every username exists in both domains (e.g. [email protected] is the same person as [email protected]), but it's still possible to do if they're different.
There are two approaches to doing it. Which one you use is up to you.
The first is to use Open Directory and add the email addresses as additional usernames for each account.
For example, you may have a user 'joe' who exists in domain2, so you'd give him the shortnames 'joe' and '[email protected]'. User 'bob' in domain 1 would have the shortnames 'bob' and '[email protected]'.
Note that both users exist in the main directory domain, which could be an entirely different domain.
The second method is the pure Postfix method and involves configuring postfix on the command line to support multiple domains. You'll essentially build a text file list of the names in the secondary domain(s) and will maintain this separately from the main server GUI tools. This optioni s covered in some depth in the Postfix Virtual Domains page.

Please read about Exchange Simple Display Name if you are using Exchange in your environment. It should be suitable for your needs, but as far I know not every Exchange version support it.
In Exchange 2003 this Simple Display Name was at Advanced tab of user, but now..
With Exchange 2013, SimpleDisplayName is configured using Exchange Management Shell (EMS)
Example:
Set-Mailbox ALIAS -SimpleDisplayName $True
..and as with Exchange 2007/2010, you will need to enable UseSimpleDisplayName on RemoteDomain.
